Contest results

So, no one knows why the first period I highlighted was significant?

It just so happens that DeltaNineDev announced several things on IRC at about 17:30GST January 22, 2015 - lightly edited transcript follows, with my highlighting:

Quote
Meeting with "Heisenberg" today to look at some buildings.  We are still actively looking in "BUY" mode.

Nothing happens overnight like mentioned before but we are actively building support.

We've started harvesting batch as well and testing.

We've had some in veg for awhile and started harvesting some that are in READY state.

I meant in flower.

remember, we are testing new environment.

Arizona is going to become full recreational soon and we are laying the foundation to full CANN support in AZ.

Also Colorado is still on the table.  Yes, My family owns a large ranch there and I will be there after the winter.

clones will be spread amongst other growers and cultivators.

Other strains will be grown as well to provide variation for CANN.

So yes, a time consuming task and will be incorporating CANN anywhere possible during this time.

I have plans in place for full production batch and what will happen to the supply.

Now, I don't know about anyone else but I'd call that significant revelation with harvest of test crop beginning, plans to distribute clones to other growers, plans for a production batch and a search for yet more grow sites.

Yet the market did not react at all. That's why the surge of enthusiasm on the recent announcement of attending an event is all the more strange.

What I was looking for was an explanation for the differences in reaction.

I am quite amazed that in an environment where coin traders and miners perpetually chirp to be fed more information on progress that almost no one seems to be actually monitoring the chat, where information is generally released.

A great deal of work has been done while traders have not been paying attention. Don't complain later that you were not told what was going on while the foundation value of CannabisCoin was growing so strongly.

The coin is really undervalued right now and if you are smart you will quietly and slowly accumulate as its trading price gradually adjusts toward its true value. For heaven's sake though don't go leaping into the market "all in", there's plenty of supply and a lot of churning in the market. You still have time. Remember also that traders are generally impatient and will pull their funds out if the price rise is too slow. Buy smart and accumulate slowly. If you can not afford to keep the funds tied up for long periods then don't buy CANN because it is tied to a very long term project.

Good luck everyone and please, don't fight for coins in the market, there are plenty to go around.

Have a great day and always try to share a smile with someone new.

Be careful! That article is based on this story from last year. Apparently that bill has not stopped Federal action against mmj.

See, for example, this Associated Press piece from this month.

twitter.com/cannabiscoins: 425

With no explanation of what that number means. I'm guessing it means the event is on April 25th, but it seems like he would use a slash "4/25"

I would say Bitstake_fan is quite correct:

Gosh! What a really strange market this is.

Here's a little contest for you.*

The second period outlined below (the rightmost, in other words) in the BitTrex CANN timeline is the period before and after The Cann Team said:

Quote
We will be posting some information regarding a Medical Marijuana Event that will be held in Arizona and will be a first of it's kind.

We've been asked to attend and become a part of this special event.  Please be sure to follow on twitter and facebook for more information!

-CANN TEAM

Now to the contest. 100 CANN to the first person who posts here quotes of what DeltaNine had to say in the first (leftmost) outlined period. Entrants will need to quote two or more items of significance, although they can be from the same discussion/announcement. You will need to cite your source.

A further 150 CANN is on offer if someone can explain the market logic of the first and second periods. Rules on this portion of the contest can be flexible if you like - readers may offer opinions on the worthiness of responses and whether they think any (or none) of the responses are deserving of reward.

Good luck everyone. Contest is open until Midnight GMT, Monday, March 16, 2015.

Whether you win, lose or draw, share a smile with someone new today Smiley

* Please note that this is not an official CannabisCoin contest or promotion. Nor is it done with the advance knowledge of or permission from The Cann Team. The offered prize(s) constitute coins from my personal holding and as such I will remain the final arbiter in the disbursement of same.

Just a reminder for everyone NOT to donate to SillyPotHead's CannabisCoin faucet.

The faucet remains broken - it does not recognize genuine CANN addresses and worse, it simply absorbs donated coins and continues to claim the faucet is empty.

Please do not waste your generosity (or your coins) by throwing them into that black hole.

If you refer people or link to Silly's faucet please stop doing so.

At my request the link has been removed from the OP as Silly has not responded to PMs nor addressed the issue.

Thank you.

Rampant speculation warning!

Wow! Looking at the market history on BitTrex this is mostly made up of small orders so I'd guess sales are coming mostly from small holders who bought during the long accumulation and who need to take profit as soon as it becomes available.

That's fair enough for them and we hope they are content with their trades.

The near future though...

<speculation on>

∆9 and the dev team have done a great job of not exciting the market during the "boring" period of initial test grow(s), casually mentioning a small harvest (very diesel, apparently) and generally going about their business while fending off pleas for market-pumping news and pictures.

Now we have a two-liner from ∆9 about being invited to an inaugural event. Guessing wildly, there's just 5 weeks to the 4/20 weekend, making that a likely event date.

A small teaser announcement now and a trickle of news until then would appear the most likely strategy to try to avoid a huge and currently unsustainable pump with subsequent dump.

<speculation ++ >

What will be shown at the upcoming event?

A coin? Not likely. A web wallet is too much of a yawn too.

Medical marijuana then? Now there's a possibility  Shocked

Coin speculators dumping out in the 4/18-20 dates would be left stranded if there's a public unveiling of CANNdy. Most people will likely hold or even buy on tangible evidence of progress. Speculators will need to be very careful they don't get stranded without a re-entry point.

<speculation ++ >

What will come after the event?

Hmm... just appearing at an event with bloom in hand will cement the price of CannabisCoin. (Chew on that pump-&-dumpers  Tongue )

The logical progression from there is people counting on their fingers and toes, reckoning if that's bloom from a test crop and "mothers" were chosen from that, when could a first harvest take place? How long from there to dry/cure the product to testing, packing and actual distribution of CANNdy?

And that is just considering one grow site. We know there are more with varying percentages devoted to CANNdy production. As crops are distributed more dispensaries will accept and distribute donated CANNdy, word of CANN will spread and the media will take an interest. If the Feds do not free up banking to handle cannabis transactions dispensaries already accepting CANN for CANNdy will face no overhead accepting it at market value for other merchandise too. In fact they may even discount for cashless transactions.

If people think along those lines then CANN is in for a very long, very slow sustained escalation in exchange rate. The ceiling wouldn't be reached until recreational cash values or near enough. Assuming BTC1 stabilizes at about US$500 then CANN would rise to somewhere around BTC0.02 (2,000,000 sat). I don't imagine recreational marijuana will retail under about US$10/gram.

<speculation -- >
<speculation -- >
<speculation off>

Of course, none of that might be true and this run is just isolated excitement about a singular, unspecified event.

The above is just me speculating.

Comments?

B4zz4 will hate me for posting something about the price, but....within 5 minutes of the above post and a tweet the price shot up by 13%, from about 1150 sat to 1296  Shocked

But I'm full of love, man Smiley

You can see why ∆9 has to be very careful with what information is released and how it is done though, eh? People who buy on rumour and who don't get to sell for a profit on news tend to get very upset.

It is exciting though, isn't it? Wink

KUBUNTU 14.04.2 USB FLASH DRIVE IMAGE WITH CANNABISCOIN-QT READY-TO-RUN (by request)

Note: this ready-to-go USB flash drive image is for people who do not wish to compile their own CannabisCoin software from the git repository, for which I have previously posted tutorials for Ubuntu and Debian. Compiling your own wallet on Linux is definitely preferable to downloading one built by some random (that would be me, in case you missed it Wink).

What is this?

It is an image of a kubuntu 14.04.2 LTS installation, complete with a ready-to-use CannabisCoin wallet, zipped and ready to download and copy to an 8Gb or larger USB with Mac/Linux dd or Windows HDD raw copy.

Please note that this is an UNOFFICIAL CannabisCoin wallet build compiled by B4zz4. The blockchain data is synced to about midnight (GMT) Saturday, March 7th, 2015.

Download does NOT include wallet.dat (you can copy in your own if you wish or simply run the wallet to create a new one).

Why would you want one?

Simple, boot into a clean operating environment to store/transfer your CannabisCoin with much reduced risk of malware and/or key loggers pilfering your coins. Provided you do not browse the web or download anything but keep the CANN USB solely for transacting your CannabisCoin business you are at very little risk of theft.

Note! This is kubuntu - a version of Ubuntu but with the K Desktop Environment and plasma desktop instead. If you are new to Linux or English is not your preferred language then I strongly recommend this Ubuntu image instead.

ALWAYS keep multiple copies of your wallet.dat file in multiple secure locations - USBs flash drives are not forever and will fail eventually. When the inevitable occurs simply construct a new USB copy, add a copy of your wallet.dat and you are back in business.

Where to get it?

kde_1404.dd.zip has been uploaded on mega - click the link to download.

How do you use it?

To begin with you need a functional computer and a spare 8Gb or larger USB. Any files on the USB will be destroyed so don't use one containing anything you want to keep. If you wish to use a larger flash drive I have posted a tutorial here to expand the image partitions to utilise more (all) of the drive.

Once you have downloaded the 3Gb zip file you need to unzip it to any suitable location. You will need at least 8Gb of free space to do so.

I tried in a Windows 7 VM and even Windows can extract kde_1404.dd so that shouldn't cause any problems.

Windows users will need to download HDD Raw Copy Tool if they don't already have it.

Check carefully that you select kde_1404.dd as the source and your USB as the target. BE WARNED THAT THIS SOFTWARE WILL OVERWRITE YOUR HARDDRIVE IF THAT IS WHAT YOU TELL IT TO DO!

Linux users open a terminal and run "sudo fdisk -l" to list drives and identify your target USB, if you only have one HDD your USB will likely be /dev/sdb.

Then it is simply a matter of "sudo dd if=[path to kde_1404.dd] of=[path to USB] bs=1M", it will look something like "sudo dd if=~/Downloads/kde_1404.dd of=/dev/sdb bs=1M" without the quotes. If your distribution complains about bs=1M then use bs=1m.

Mac users have slightly more to do but not much.

Open a terminal and run "sudo diskutil list" to identify your USB (run it before and after inserting your USB if you have difficulty telling one from another).

Then run "diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN" (replace N with the disk number from the last command).

Now run "sudo dd if=[path to kde_1404.dd] of=/dev/rdiskN bs=1m" (we are using /dev/rdiskN instead of /dev/diskN because it may be faster). Same deal as before, if your particular version does not like bs=1m use bs=1M.

If you get a "resource busy" error it likely means you forgot to unmount the USB flash drive, do so now using Disk Utility.app (Finder => Applications => Utilities => Disk Utility.app). DO NOT EJECT THE DRIVE - UNMOUNT IT.

Everyone

Once you have copied kde_1404.dd to your USB flash drive(s) you can eject the USB, it is ready to use.

If you know how to use a bootable USB you can go ahead when ready.

If not then there's a simple tutorial on booting from a USB here.

People with different keyboard needs should not change their password until after you change your keyboard settings.

The supplied user name is cann with the default password of YesWeCann. You are going to need to change that for the sake of simple security. The system is set for automatic login and cann has administrative rights.

NOTE: If your keyboard will not type "YesWeCann" then copy it to the clipboard and paste it into the terminal with right click => paste or with ctrl-shift-v when the time comes.

YOU MUST SET YOUR LOCAL TIMEZONE BEFORE YOU START THE WALLET WHEN YOU BOOT FOR THE FIRST TIME - THE USB IMAGE WAS CREATED IN QUEENSLAND AND EXPECTS LOCAL TIME TO BE GMT+10 - THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR SYNCHRONISATION OF THE BLOCKCHAIN.

So, first things first, you need to access the control panel - normal deal, I'll try to do this as graphically as possible for those whose first language is other than English:

Choose "System Settings":

You'll possibly need to change your keyboard (input device), your country (for language and formatting) and most people will need to adjust local time - that's important so that your wallet will synchronise with the network:

Change your keyboard setting before you change your password or you may not be able to type it - if you can not type "YesWeCann" after changing your keyboard then copy it from here and paste it into the terminal at the appropriate time with control-shift-v or right-click->paste (ctrl-click if you have a one-button mouse).

With languages, select your language from the list on the left, then click arrow to move it to the right column and then click "Apply":

Then, to correct formatting change your country from the drop-down list - don't forget to click "Apply" or nothing will happen:

Now you are ready to copy in your wallet.dat file, if you have one already. The file manager can be found from the windows start-button kind of thing in the corner:

Showing hidden files is something odd, rather than an intuitive control-h as it is in Ubuntu it has been changed to alt+. or use the view menu.

Once you have your wallet.dat safely in ~/.CannabisCoin you'll want to start up CannabisCoin-qt. Don't worry if you don't already have a wallet.dat file as one will be created for you if it does not exist. Go ahead a double click on the desktop shortcut:

A familiar splash screen will show:

Don't worry as nothing seems to happen for a few moments as the application scans the blockchain and then your wallet will appear:

Hopefully the above has been sufficient to help you get started with your own fairly safe environment from which to make your CannabisCoin transactions.

Anyone having trouble can PM me here or email me at b4zz4.code@yahoo.com. Note that kubuntu has been supplied by request and is not a choice I can recommend for anyone new to Linux. If you are just beginning with Linux or Qt wallets I urge you to try this version first.

In the meantime good luck everyone, have fun and share a smile with someone new today.

I think I figured out how we'll hit the peg-price of $10. Bitcoin will go up to the multi-trillion dollar market cap that the Winklevoss twins are predicting and CANN will just stay at 1,000 sat the whole time  Cheesy

Going by fiat exchange rate CANN is up almost 35% over 30 days. For swing traders there has been ample profit opportunity lately.

CannabisCoin however is more a start-up with dividends being how much we can help medical marijuana patients and potential profits being much longer term.

This is why cannabusinesses need CannabisCoin:

Quote
Security Firms Thrive While Cannabusiness Seeks Banking

For all the progress made in the medical pot business, a huge obstacle for dispensaries and other cannabusinesses remains: opening a bank account. One would think that a $2.7 billion-and-growing industry would have banks lining up to take its money, but no.

Because marijuana is still a Schedule I drug, bankers can’t get federal protections—such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)—to back them up and mitigate risk. Banks hate risk.

Cashless transactions? Yes We CANN!

looks like 1000 is the strongest support for now...

hope it will holed and shoot to the sky..come on CANN you CANN do it..

Price is very stable for a few weeks  Smiley But imo there must be happening something in a few weeks, or the 1000sat floor might get dumped on hard

G'day banzai Smiley

Actually the price has been stable for months, despite BTC's wild ride. 1Ksat floor is just about rock-solid too - plenty of accumulators step into the market anytime someone is silly enough to offer coins in the 900s. It is quite likely people will bid up the "weed coins" in the run up to 4/20 in the hope of a quick pump-and-dump profit but not so likely that ∆9 will say or do anything to provoke a run on CANN.

Can't say I see any indication of sudden change in the near-future.  Wink

so i see ~deltanine referenced here, is that simply a user, or the actual medical dispensary? and if its the dispensary, do they currently have a "canndy" supply? i have not seen anything on the delta nine site, but have been stockpiling coins just in case lol

G'day latenight, welcome to the Yes We Cann community Smiley

∆9 is the dev's personal handle and I doubt he has any association with bands or Californian shops, as you find in web searches. He is a grower with multiple grow sites, various percentages of which are to be dedicated to CANNdy grows but as yet there is no mention of being involved in any dispensary. At this time the Herbal Wellness Center Inc. in Phoenix Arizona is the only CANNdy outlet of which I am aware.

The web site associated with CannabisCoin is here.

Again, welcome to the Yes We CANN movement. Smiley

WANT TO RUN YOUR CANNABISCOIN USB ON A LARGER FLASH DRIVE?
HERE'S HOW:

So, you'd like to have your CannabisCoin wallet on a USB like the ready-to-download one here but, well, you'd really like something larger than 8Gb so you can install your electrum bitcoin wallet and perhaps a couple of other coins you've had your eye on?

No problem! The ready-to-use CannabisCoin USB flash drive image was made to be extensible with a minimum of fuss. Just use a larger USB size when you follow the tutorial linked above and you're all set to follow this tutorial to increase the drive space available for data storage, regardless of what you want to use it for.

Before you do anything - back up your wallet.dat file if you have one in use. The only reason you do not back up your wallet.dat is if you have not yet created one.

Alright, you want to know how to grow that provided 8Gb Ubuntu 12.04 system to utilize a larger key drive. Here we go, once again I'll try to do this pictorially for the benefit of those whose first language is other than English:

First things first, you need the tools for the job. Since we are using Ubuntu to host our CannabisCoin wallet let's work with that (besides, the tools are free Wink).

In fact, we can use a pair of USB flash drives with the CannabisCoin image already copied onto them so go ahead and boot up from one of the USB images.

From the Ubuntu software center just type gparted into the search field:

Click on "install":

To install software you must authenticate (give your permission, in other words) so go ahead and put in your password, which you have hopefully upgraded from the default password of YesWeCann and then click Authenticate.

Once it has been installed you'll find it on the task bar at left but you do not need it just yet.

Go ahead and plug in the drive we are to expand. It will be auto-mounted by Ubuntu and a file manager window will open - you can close it by clicking the button in the top-left of the window because we do not need it.

Because gparted exists to alter file systems and partitions it needs your permission even to run, hence we have another authentication window when you click the gparted icon. Go ahead, do that and authenticate now:

By default gparted will display the drive you are working from. Take note of the drive indicated, in this case one of my virtual drives. Click there and select the drive to modify.:

Pictured here I have mounted a 16Gb flash drive (yes, it does say 14.9Gb but that is because device manufacturers generally cite the volume in metric bytes while Ubuntu works in the binary value, hence 1024x1024x1024 or 1,073,741,824 bytes, apart from that Ubuntu does not count system reserved areas, etc., just go with it):

Ubuntu is very helpful and does a lot for us without being asked, including auto-mounting partitions ready for use. See the little key symbols in the image below? They indicate that the main partition - in fact the only mountable primary partition, which hosts the logical partition holding our filesystem is mounted already, which this time we do not want.

Right-click (or control-click, I think it is if you only have one mouse button) the extended partition and select "unmount". The key symbols will disappear and we are just about ready to to expand first the primary partition and then the logical partition to occupy the previously unallocated space.

So, right-click the extended partition again, this time selecting "Resize/Move":

This will open our partition editing dialogue:

Click and hold the right-most triangle and drag it all the way to the right, then click "Resize/Move":

and do the same with the logical partition it hosts (/dev/sdb5 in the pictures), right-click, drag, click "Resize/Move":

Note that the unallocated space has disappeared once we have completed this and we are ready to actually perform the operations listed as "pending". Do this by clicking the check mark (or tick, depending on where you are from) in the action menu icons:

GParted is going to ask if we really want to do this, just click "Apply" to proceed:

GParted will be busy for a few minutes doing as we asked, just let it do its thing:

Hopefully everything went well and you will be told "All operations successfully completed":

If you click on the details tab you will see the primary partition was grown to the limit of available space and the logical partition - where our files "live" has been grown to occupy the larger primary (or physical) partition:

Once you close that dialogue you will see we now have plenty of room for our filesystem to grow:

Your flash drive is represented by this icon:

Right-click and select "Eject" to remove your now larger USB drive, ready for testing:

On first boot when you try to use the altered drive the system may complain about the /tmp directory, just wait for a moment or two while the system checks out its new accommodation and it should start normally. Rummage around a little and satisfy yourself that things are working as they should before you repeat the process with your other flash drive(s).

Another word of warning - cann1204.dd was built with a simplified partition layout, just a tiny swap and one single working partition. Other supplied images, wherever you got them, may not be so expansion-friendly, so do this with caution.

Remember, always, ALWAYS keep multiple wallet.dat backups - it's the file that holds the keys to your coins. Treat it carefully and keep it secure.

Hopefully the above has been sufficient to help you expand your CannabisCoin Ubuntu drive for whatever purpose suits you.

Anyone having trouble can PM me here or email me at b4zz4.code@yahoo.com.

In the meantime good luck everyone, have fun and share a smile with someone new today.

Dat 4.3BTC wall :/ Someone is definetly up to something....

BTC USD rate is up about 15% from a couple of weeks ago. Someone could be looking to move from alts to BTC for some profitable swing trading for a bit.

The increased volume here certainly makes it look like people are betting on BTC's losing streak having come to an end. Certainly the 1d & 1w charts look more promising.

Jeez, Cannabis has probably the biggest and the longest altcoin accumulation ever. Well, whatever - gonna accumulate too then Wink
Cheers!

~ Strugg

Seriously! We've had like 3-9 bitcoins of volume every day for the last 4 months all between 1000 and 1250 satoshi. Where is all this cann going?! Has anyone analyzed the block explorer to see if the coins are leaving bittrex? Are there a few whales accumulating a huge portion of the coins? Are there a  lot of people holding small amounts?

Urocoin is sort of in the same situation, it was pumped around the same time as cann, in fact the charts showed nearly the same trend, and it too has had months of healthy volume with little price fluctuation.

Hi Nat Smiley

The block explorer is here if you want to analyze it.

You guys are right, this is one rock-solid coin with a price resistant to the usual fluctuations.

I would suggest this is because there are a number of people who believe in what ∆9 is doing and who enter the market whenever the price falls near 1,000 sat (BTC0.00001000) and due to ∆9's care to not say or do anything to trigger market pumps, leaving the price fairly stable. The latter is something coin speculators complain about from time to time but the coin's history is quite instructive.

I think it is an extraordinary feat on the part of the CannabisCoin dev team to achieve such stability in the really quite juvenile cryptocurrency ecosystem. I have long harboured doubts about whether crypto was ready for prime-time (just look at the percentage of outright scams and absurd, albeit temporary valuations of coins with zero substance and/or purpose) but CannabisCoin displays a maturity and purpose quite out of character with the pretenders in the pack.

I now believe that a core of long-term holders is coalescing around CANN, a core that will sustain and support it through all the doubts and setbacks of evolving marijuana legislation. I think this core will see CannabisCoin through the volatile "Wild West" of crypto gambling that we have seen to date and on to a solid blue-chip-style asset. As the mmj market supply and demand grows core holders are likely to slowly release the coin supply back to market as mmj tokens in a way that will protect mmj patients from market price spikes.

To have inspired such an informal coalition is indeed a tribute to the man and his mission.

<3 and respect ∆9.

To have conceived and launched the Yes We CANN movement is awesome. To have maintained the momentum through the turmoil, chaos and at times naked hostility of the past year, from concept to reality, is truly inspiring.

Oh, and in case I hadn't mentioned it, I'm really quite impressed by what ∆9 is doing and how he is going about it.

Cannabis now legal in the nations capital  ... Washington DC !  It's now just a matter of time ... the walls of prohibition are beginning to crumble.

Indeed it is a most interesting challenge to Congress. It will be even more interesting to see if Congress takes retaliatory fiscal actions, given that their key power is fundamentally the power of the purse.

So no event ? coin dead ? why say there will be no event in the next 2 month how do you know that ? Sad

Don't be foolish. Try reading what I actually said.

It is highly unlikely that ∆9 will provide coin pumps. That has nothing to do with the obvious strength of CANN.

On the other hand it is very likely that awareness events will be held as crops get closer to delivery but these events will be to let mmj patients know what is available to them, not to pump the coin.

My guess is that they will not be held on key dates like 4/20 but far more likely to be ninja events at other times. If he's going to use the hype of other events to get more media interest then going just before or soon after other events would be a good move, wouldn't it.

Think about it - and try really hard to avoid the "pump, dump and run" mentality of crypto scams so common in the second half of 2014.

D9 will soon come with updates and news into an event the 4/20.

Still trying desperately to poison the well? So sad...

Here's my somewhat verbose response.

Someone is definetly slowly picking up lots of this cheap $CANN. Little green candle up to 1150. Yeah there is a lack of  news but I think there is information others know that we dont Wink

I was part of the dev team for potcoin but never actually commited to it :/ However if CANN needs some devs im more then willing to help.

Hi David Smiley

I don't think it requires any insider knowledge to believe CannabisCoin a great long-term bet.

  • The CANNdy and commercial grows are situated in Arizona.
  • Arizona will almost certainly go full recreational.
  • That will very likely occur in 2016.
  • There is no reason to believe President Obama or any incoming President will rationalize the Fed's position on marijuana.
  • Banks will therefore continue to avoid marijuana accounts out of fear of seizure of funds.
  • Commercial grows as well as CANNdy therefore stand at least a chance of being traded for ... CannabisCoin.

To me, at least, that suggests CANN at current prices is an absolute bargain and that the exchange rate will slowly and inexorably rise over time.

No insider knowledge was harmed used to form that opinion. I do, however, like to keep up with High Times, especially their legislative roundups.
