Breaking drug war news: Drugs still winning.
362  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ayn rand on: July 31, 2012, 07:54:06 AM
Hello everyone, thought I'd ask this here are bitcoin tends to attract all sorts of creazies (found my way here, didn't I?)
I've justn finished reading the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand ans as usual after reading her books, I'm confused. On the one hand there is a quite good storytelling skill, with mastery of the hero with a thousand faces as well as emphatic developement. On the other hand there is a very strong ugliness of spirit, appeal to man's (and woman, everyone is shit) baser instincts and social theories that generally only hold up to a mild breeze..

I'm not sure what I'm trying to discuss, but there should be enough fodder here for a few pages.

Oh yes, a question! Why do I like those books? I'm a dyed in the wool troskyite who has been that way for a very long time. Why do I like her style?b She's the moral equivalent of the root of negative one.

help?

When people ask me what I'm reading, I tell them a treatise about facist archistecture (the fountainhead) or motor design, how do we explain this shamefulk attraction to her work?

She was a sociopath and other sociopaths love her.

She simply stated what was right, that people have a right to the wealth they produce, what they do with it is their business.

When your wealth comes from shitting on others you don't deserve your wealth.

Which payment processors and exchanges accept BTC-e codes?

None anymore.

That can't be good, but how do we know he wasn't just trollololing?

If what he said was true, then no one could withdraw bitcoins. People have claimed to have been able to withdraw as recently as the last 5-10 minutes.

I don't trust those claims. I'm guessing it's either the hacker with multiple accounts or people helping the hacker by convincing people that they can still withdraw.

BTC-e codes are now worth about as much as the hair on my taint.
369  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS $7800 BTC-E for BTC on: July 31, 2012, 02:46:03 AM
Anyone want to buy $7800 in worthless BTC-e money? No? I didn't think so.
370  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HOLY SHIT BTC-E.COM hit $40 per BTC! on: July 31, 2012, 02:14:31 AM
They wouldn't be able to withdraw any USD since it's fake. Saying you have 500000 fake BTC on BTC-e doesn't mean anything if you don't actually have the keys to those coins in an actual wallet. They used fake USD to buy real BTC then ride off into the sunset laughing.

Dude.  All exchanges use a pooled wallet.  There is no such things "your" BTC or "your BTC" wallet on BTC-E, MtGox or any other exchange.  The exchange simply has one (or more) hot and/or cold wallets.  Then they maintain a database of each user's balance, and trades change those balance.     One could withdraw "fake" BTC just as easily as selling "fake" USD for BTC and withdrawing that.

The likely reason for faking USD is simply because that is the exploit the hacker founds.  Hacker found a way to add USD to his USD balance.  Once had had that why try hacking any further.  Give yourself huge amounts of USD, buy BTC and remove them from the exchange.

I understand all that. What I was saying is that simply putting 50000 in the BTC balance box doesn't mean there is actually 500000 BTC there.

There is no reason not to suspect a database leak.

The hacker must have gotten the fake USD in either through remote execution or SQL injection. Both these allow access to the database.

What confuses me is why they did not simply hack the BTC in.

They wouldn't be able to withdraw fake BTC.
Why not?

They confirm transactions with higher tx fees. Or due to the randomness of who finds blocks your tx wasn't found by them.

I would love for something like this that works remotely. It really sucks leaving for a week or two, only to find out in the middle of the week that you're no longer getting anything from your mining hardware, with no way to check what went wrong or restart it.

There could be a 3G/4G edition.
