2013-05-19:
- A fatal math error was discovered at the chip's cost. This was my mistake and take full responsability for it. John's escrow fee wasn't covered by the final chips price. This is fixed now and if there are missing funds regarding John's escrow fee, i will be providing this out of my pocket. Lesson learned.
- I'm considering the aspects of building smaller, 1 chip USB miners also, based on the K1 project from Bkkcoins. I'll provide updates regarding thsi too.
- I have to create the text content of our website. After this, we can go live, probably during next week.

ooh thats gonna get confusing later on then.

I owe John K escrow percentage for an additional 10 chips I paid into escrow for.

Best if we include the escrow fee into the price per chip that way there'll be less farting around for John K and t13hydra at the end.

Yes, i've done that a few minutes ago. Makimg mistakes is learning, so i've definitely learned to make my math right.

It is a little confusing based on your posts what one will actually be getting if one orders in this thread. If I order 16 chips, do I get the chips, or a completed 16 chip miner? Your pricing seems like it is based on just the chips since you can't possibly sell the completed units for just the chip cost (not without taking a huge loss yourself anyway), and yet you seemed to have stated in a few places (like the above post) that you will be providing people who ordered in this thread with complete units.

Could you clarify a little bit on what specifically you are offering and at what prices?

If you are about to list completed units on your website, have you built out a completed unit and verified that it works? If not, when do you expect that to happen?

If you are really offering completed units for just the chip cost, count me in for a few Smiley

Right now, we are gathering to complete 1 batch of 10,000 Avalon chips, at the terms described in the 1 post.

PCB is a matter of development right now, but from what I've discussed with t13hydra, klondike design is closest to completion, easiest and cheaper to produce. Expectected price for this design, according to last calculation is 75-100 Euro. This price is paid alone from what you've paid (or will pay) for the chips you order. 80 chips (or more) designs are subject to further discussion and so far nor price, nor 100% for production is agreed upon.

So, what you can order so far is Avalon chips, at the price and terms described in first post.
After that it will be clear how much/what models PCB will be produces and how much they will cost. There will be import fee, when chips arrive from Avalon to t13hydra, there will be shipping fee, when the chips are dispatched to you and it will be based depending on your location. If you are located outside EU, there could be import tax, which you'll have to pay, too.

There is 8-10 weeks waiting time, after the order is placed with Avalon. If everything is going as expected, my estimation for working PCB boards must be middle of August/start of September.

There is good risk something goes wrong, changes in bitcoin scene, drop of prices, etc, etc. Do your risk assessment and place your order if you are ok with the odds.

Thank you for answering this  Hacko. I'm writing from my phone.
You're exactly right in all statements.

Steve

Hello,
This thread is about chips. I'm making pcbs also, because i can and i can make them a little cheaper than others in this forum, however, not as cheap as Thailand. It means, when the time comes, i will be making pcbs at an additional fixed price. This implies that i will also have a separate thread for the PCBs and i will be discussing aspects of that on that dedicated thread. Sorry if it wasn't clear enough, today wasn't a good day for me.

Regards,
Steve
365  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] 0.079 - Avalon Chips - Escrow by John K. (Europe / RO) + PCB on: May 19, 2013, 04:42:24 PM
thanks for answering one part of my post, but really, the other parts were more pressing, as I can risk joining for a few chips, but I want to know if I am supposed to make a unit, or if that is in hand, and I just get a completed unit?
Hi,
You will be getting a full working unit. [edit: at an additional fixed price, discussed a bit later]. This thread is open for the chips, but i will have another thread open for the devices. Also, my website is almost ready. You'll be able to order several types of boards, complete or incomplete, on the website. For now, i have a final price for the 16 chip device. I will also have prices for the K1, the one chip, 282 MH/s device and the 80 chips devices, build by team Avalon.

To answer your question, no, i won't be running with eighter the chips or the boards, i plan to stick around as it will be more rewarding this way. Don't take my honesty the wrong way, but i really care for BTC and it's image. The BTC community already has enough scammers. I think i said it all with this. If you like, you can check out my FB page. Let me know if you need it.

Thank very much John (John K.). Then the price 0.079 include the scrow fee

Yes, from what I see here.  Smiley
Okay, apparently I was wrong.  Undecided
Huh? Do we need to pay more?

Hello all,
In short, yes. I am aware that it's the worst practice ever (to ask, recalculate and ask for more), so it is not mandatory. All of you, who have paid for the chips are not forced in any way to pay extra for the chips. I'll get that money out of my pocket, if needed, because it was my mistake.
I practically ommitted 0.002 btc for every chip.
I have changed the price of the chips in the thread title too, so at least part of John's commission fee will be recovered.

I'm truly sorry, i didn't want to ask for much, but apparently i wasn't asking for enough.

I'm interested in ordering about 100 chips, depends on how many chips fit on pcb.
I'm from nearby country, I can also offer hosting.
I can offer help with administration and monitoring (I'm software developer).

Szia,
For now, we can fit 16 chips on a Klondike PCB. As soon as i have quotation for the 80 chip design, i will make the decision to go ahead or not and to offer the 80 chip design too. Thanks for the offers, i will contact you if needed.

Furthermore, I have this factory in my town - http://www.set.bg/index.php?lang=en

They offer PCB production and providing and soldering the smaller elements over the PCB, I can contact them and ask for a price. But for me to contact them, I have to have the PCB design along with the list of the smaller elements, which will be on the board.

Do we have such schematics?
PM sent!

How many chips do you have left?  If I read this right you will be able to make K16 PCB?  If you fall short of group buy purchase do you plan to buy large quantity for yourself to shorten wait time?
Hi,
Currently I have 6880 chips left. Yes, I will be able to do the Klondike16 and I'm currently in discussions for the 80 chip Avalon card and the rest of the modules needed. Yes, i we fall short until the enf of May, i will try to arrange something to be able to buy chips. I have multiple ideas on that too.

Steve

How sure and guaranteed is the board production and will you be able to offer them when the chips come in? Do you have an estimate for the price for the biggest boards (boards for 40 and 80 or more chips)

My plan is for buying 1000 chips (or some round number, depending on the count of chips per board). Furhthermore, I can order up to 500 over those 1000, depending on the answer I get. (mostly friends and family)

The other reason, asking for bigger boards, is because I plan to make waterblocks for the boards, which can give me possibility to overclock the chips further.

Sorry for not answering your PM (In time). I have a daytime job and a family..
The PCBs will be ready by the time the chips arrive. All we're going to do, by that time, is drop them into the boards test them, pack them and ship them. I have discussions with 3 romanian suppliers already and will continue to search for 2 more, at least! So i'm pretty sure we'll have boards. Unfortunately i can't guesstimate the price for the bigger boards, because we're talking about thousands of chips. A small error could lead to a big sum of money. I'm doing my best to pester the suppliers, though, to have the quotations ready ASAP.

"The Klondike design will cost approximately 75 Eur" - that means 75 euro for 32 chips PCB? What about 80 chips design?
75 eur for a 16 chip design. This is not a final price, it may be lower or higher.

Updates!!!
2013-05-15:
- Quotation received! We have decided to make the Klondike design. The official Avalon has way too many parts and the fabrication of it can go wrong in many ways. However! We're still researching for manufacurers, i haven't given up on the 80/160/240/320 chip designs yet! The Klondike design will cost approximately 75 90 (edit: better safe than sorry) Eur / board (remember, price is not final yet!). I will have a non-functioning prototype next week just to be able to touch it and see the cost of all the parts when populating the empty PCB. Will make a video too! After that, we can offer bulk orders or discounts for larger quantities. It it also possible to include everything in a nice (or not, we'll see) box! That will definitely help with the airflow through the heatsinks, but that is a bit far away for now.
- Our website is under development. A beta will be done by the end of this week. One major problem with it is: i have NO IDEA how to name it Smiley suggestions?
- I'm in a discussion about offering hosting for the devices. You live in the U.S./Canada? No problem, you can have a RaspberryPi mining away from Romania for you. Full SSH access and maybe even remote desktop via Ubuntu can make everything easier. The electricity here is dirt-cheap compared to western europe / the states. Will have updates on this too later.
376  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#2] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! United States of America! on: May 15, 2013, 12:58:37 PM
Hey guys, other than burnin who else is building asics with these chips and have proven progress?  I'll buy some Chips if I can see some proof of work, and I wondering its possible to receive the built machine before BFL ships all theirs.  If anyone can address my concerns or don't mind assisting me in finding a person to build me a asic I'll be buying some chips :-)

Thanks

I'm already in discussions with a local manufacturer. I will have a prototype of the Klondike design before next week's end. I'll make a video or some photos at least. Keep you updated on the thread
377  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 15, 2013, 10:56:42 AM
Hi,
Just in case you need a bit of precious info, use a good Nokia or Samsung charger to power the RasPi. Otherwise it will restart and it's hard to troubleshoot where the problem is. You need at least 800mAh to power it and a 1200mAh charger will work like a charm.

By the way, what options do we have for ordering heat sinks? I guess we will need eighter 4 small ones or one 10x10cm big one to mount on the Klondike board. I'd like to order boards from you and i'm thinking on my options.

Thanks,
Steve
378  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] 0.079 - Avalon Chips - Escrow by John K. (Europe / RO) + PCB on: May 14, 2013, 08:54:51 AM
So 10 - BTC0.79 or BTC1.58 for 20. Does that include shipping to the US.

Also when will you quit taking orders and suspected ship date. Asking so I can get my numbers right and step my hustle up.
I'm trying to finish this group-buy by the end of the month, 31st of May. Thus, the estimated arrival of the chips would be the beginning (first week) of August. The PCBs should take 2 weeks tops to be assempled, so my guesstimate is the middle of August to have ready devices.
The price does not include shipping to the U.S.! Each person will be charged for he's own shipping fee, being geographically situated in diffent parts of the World. You will be given the option to ship via DHL, FedEx, Postal Forwarding, TNT, etc.etc.

Regards,
Steve
