3601  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Coinbase users have private keys? on: January 08, 2017, 12:26:03 PM
coinbase does not give users private keys.

just like all other exchanges
when you put funds in. they all belong to coinbase/other exchanges.
you are just given a mySQL database "balance" and that is it.

should they shutdown you lose.
should they get hacked. they will try to convince you that you lost funds (even though they lost funds)

its like a bank where you need to ask them when you want some funds and they can authorise a withdrawal to you, which is more of a moral contract.

this is why its best you store funds in a wallet that gives you private keys so that you are in sole control of the funds and not having to rely on third parties morals/ethics

I never liked Coinbase. I find their website design unfriendly and I hate the fact that you have to put your real identification data in your account - I thought Bitcoin should be ANONYMOUS and it shouldn't request your real data.. I think the pro tip here is that you should use a web wallet like Coinbase or Blockchain for small funds and an offline wallet for big funds. I guess all of us prefer owning the money we go, not letting it in others' responsibility.
3602  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling site? on: January 07, 2017, 08:11:01 PM
I'd go for BitDouble.io and PrimeDice.com. If you want to have fun while trying out your luck, look for nice communities: they'll get you addicted (I don't know if that's good or not) to them and you won't be depressed when you lose some money, because they'll try to cheer you up! It's my opinion. Cheesy
3603  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is trezor the safest way to keep coins!? on: January 07, 2017, 07:09:19 PM
Instead of using Trezor which requires electricity to be powered on, I feel way safer having that private key & address printed out on a paper wallet. If a thief enters your house and steals your paper wallet, he can steal the Trezor as easy as that too. Especially that a paper wallet can be hidden under anything you wish because you can print it out as small as you can, making it even easier to be stored anywhere. I prefer having it in my own hands, physically existing.
3604  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which bitcoin gambling site is your favorite place to go? on: January 07, 2017, 06:51:17 PM
it all depends on what kind of games I played because for dice game i prefer to play at primedice but for sport betting my current option is sportbets.io and for playing slots or blackjack i prefer to use fortunejack

Oh yes, PrimeDice... I think I only missed the first design, I was a loyal gambler there. I still remember the hours, sometimes even half a day, I spent there gambling & chatting with others.. Now I cannot believe that I was trying to earn hundreds from a stupid 200 Satoshis faucet! Cheesy It was a really good time, and I think the best feature a site can have that makes you addicted to it is the community. Tell me one community that was great to which you couldn't get closer and even addicted.. A very important factor that all the websites should know and try to work for.
3605  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who controls the Bitcoins? on: January 07, 2017, 06:33:03 PM
Nobody and everyone who use it. It's very simple, because people have the opportunity to change the price. There are not many rules and if you think about it there are no rules at all. So nobody specific controls it.

Exactly, we can change it in a second by only selling BTC for over $2000. The price is the amount we want to sell Bitcoin for. Except that, we also got the demand and the events which are influenting the change. BTC is controlled by us, that's why it's known as "being your own bank": you control all your wallets and transactions, even the fees.
3606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When did you begin using Bitcoin? on: January 07, 2017, 06:23:29 PM
I began to use bitcoin on May of 2016 and that's around a half of the year of my boyfriend's insistence. Almost all this time I was sceptic about bitcoin, but after he showed me the money that he cashed out I strayed to believe.

Insane, huh? I wish all of us here had forgotten about a 1 or 10BTC wallet hidden somewhere safe. If your boyfriend had a 10BTC coin I guess you would've married him instantly Cheesy

You're coming after seven years but you know, it's never too late. You never know what opportunity you'll have. I've been a BTC member for over three years now and the only thing I regret is not knowing about it earlier.
3607  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should I invest in bitcoin casinos? on: January 06, 2017, 11:58:22 AM
In my opinion fast increase in bitcoin's price makes investing more dangerous, since it makes more tempting for owners to commit exit scam. For example, many casinos now have over control of over 1 million USD of funds in their bankroll and anonymous owners who might vanish at any time.

i agree and we should be careful when we want to make investment in any programs. maybe we can make investment in medium amount so we don't have to be worried and we can watch our investment is grow but we must select only the good casino.

"Only the good casinos" are there bad casinos too? All of them are offering you exactly the same chances, because you lost your money on one it doesn't mean it's rigged or bad - you assumed that risk when you deposited your money. What you must look for is a safer investment. A lucky gambler can win the bankroll at any time.
3608  Economy / Speculation / Re: This pull back is great on: January 06, 2017, 11:35:33 AM
Yeah, I'm waiting for the price to go a little bit down to buy for the first time a bigger amount of BTC. The huge hikes in its price are great for all of us, we're mostly tempted to buy no matter if it goes up or down (being afraid it's going to rise even more, or thinking the price is on the lowest level). I will be waiting for a <$400 price to buy.
3609  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buying More Bitcoins on: January 06, 2017, 09:22:56 AM
It is a quite good choice since the prices will keep fluctuating around this amount. In the end of June, we expect Bitcoin prices will increase up to $2000 and if you can hold until that time, you can earn some profit from it. The prices are cheap right now so buy it before it is too late.

It's quite a bold statement, why do you think bitcoin price will reach 2000 usd in few months?
After the reccent drops I would expect that the rise will slow down and the currency will be more stable.
No, I'm not agree with you about the price will go down, because from my view bitcoin price will rise up, and after month price will be 1500-1600$. Good job OP, keep them you will get x2 price

The price will rise until the bubble will burst, and then a new price rise will come and so on. It's just like every time the price rose very fast: things cannot go up forever. Now we went back to under $1000 because of the Chinese Yen that rose up in the last few days.
3610  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Are Online Wallets safe ? on: January 06, 2017, 08:55:25 AM
I don't think they are safe. Online wallets can fail at any time, and your funds could be lost if you don't have your private keys or a backup of your wallet. I'd go for paper wallets if I were you, so I could have my wallet in my own home, in my own hand. No other owner would have it. This is what I call being your own bank.
3611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where to Invest BTC? on: January 04, 2017, 11:35:53 AM
Considering that the market has a ton of shit coins its best to stay away from them and just only way I see any profit making business is by investing in gambling sites bankroll.

Gambling always take to shit only. Instead of that you could start invest in trading with low amount also in the sites like yobit or polenix.
Yeah investing in gambling sites often tempt us to make some bets when we visit the site.
Like I invested some nice amount in moneypot earlier and whenever I used to visit there I just bet on betterets so it happens. I think buying bitcoins at cheap and selling at high is the only good option left for now.

Trading is the best for now, the price is higher and higher with every day passing by but we have to know when every event takes place to correctly predict it. You cannot just go there and buy & sell randomly. The future is never certain.
3612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: actual number of people using Bitcoin? on: January 04, 2017, 11:13:15 AM
I think a more realistic and accurate measurement would be bitcoin's market cap.

That has nothing to do with the number of people using Bitcoin. The Bitcoin market cap is actually the price of Bitcoin multiplied by the number of available Bitcoins. The number of people using Bitcoin cannot be estimated because most wallets are anonymous, or people used fake names/e-mails/phone numbers. That makes it impossible for now to estimate, or the number of people using it would be way higher than it actually is: Blockchain.info has over 11.000.000 wallets created, but for example I have more than 30 in total so you can't calculate it.
3613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin without Altcoin ? on: January 03, 2017, 10:14:29 AM
in fact, it is very difficult to imagine bitcoin without altcoin. probably about 80% of users bitcoin definitely use altcoin to find additional money. Well, I see that most people of this forum is a trader, and I am sure they are traders of altcoin. so I think, bitcoin will feel less without altcoin.
From what I know, altcoin is not a competition but it's also something that makes bitcoin strong as their system is in relation to bitcoin. They help bitcoin to be introduce to their users as well, they are getting some ideas from bitcoin.

It somehow helps because when someone hears about Altcoins, they'll hear about cryptocurrencies so they'll actually hear about Bitcoin itself. So the more popular these altcoins are getting, more people are going to hear about us too. And we need popularity so the demand and the price will also get higher.
3614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no competition on: January 03, 2017, 09:53:01 AM
Bitcoin is like Usain Bolt and the records that bitcoin broken in the cryto currency world could not be matched no matter how many coins people come out with and since we have seen a couple of thousand coins and assets till now i do not think that nothing could challenge bitcoin.

Many of them are actually great ideas, but too bad Bitcoin cannot get like updates and add all the great features up to it. I think we'll see some challengers, for example Monero is one of the possible ones. It's growing very fast and has even less coins to be mined than Bitcoin has. We'll get a few challengers but I don't think any coin will ever get past Bitcoin. Nobody will ever trust any coin more than they will trust Bitcoin!
3615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins Investment: risk or benefit? on: January 03, 2017, 09:40:36 AM
-Benefits is you may use that bitcoin to invest in other Bitcoin services and invest bitcoin is safe, profit good
-Risk is that Bitcoin collapses and if countries and government accept Bitcoin, Bitcoin will have tax, your computer can be hacked
What’s your opinion?

No investment is safe, especially with Bitcoin. The price is very unstable, so it can go down at any time and your investment will be over. When investing in anything, you need to assume some risks. There is a benefit only if the price keeps growing, like it did in the last few weeks, but do we know when it's going to stop growing? We don't. The scenarios of countries accepting Bitcoin is unlikely, at least at this moment, except if they want to experiment some kind of a test on us.
3616  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: KeepKey 30 BTC reward for capturing the hacker ! on: January 03, 2017, 09:27:32 AM
From what I can see, they've provided no information whatsoever.

https://www.keepkey.com/2016/12/31/message-founder-email-breach/

It just says a buonty is being offered and says what happened.

Anyone got any information related to this? Would be interested.
These are just scare tactics without any bloody information no one can find shit and they are not providing enough information regarding the capture of the hacker.I hope they want the hacker to come in front of them and reveal them self so that they can give him the 30 bitcoins .  Cheesy looks like its just an advertisement stunt
makes sense and i agree with you that this is just a fresh way to have the brand advertised. noone can find who they are, if they didn't release an enough information to support the investigation and get the attacker caught up. so far nothing .

If they aren't able to find any information about the hacker, I doubt anyone will. First of all, Bitcoin is anonymous and almost completely untraceable. If you deposit money at a local ATM in a non-supervised place, there's no way anyone can find who you are (except your ISP maybe, by looking over your history). Most Bitcoin 'hacks' never got info about the hackers.

3618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should Bitcoin even have a future? on: January 03, 2017, 08:01:15 AM
Yes I think bitcoin has future as everybody nowadays prefer everything online

Of course it does have a future at all everything that has been helpful and good to all of us deserves it. It is now a well-known internet currency and no doubt that its popularity will keep on increasing and it can be known for the next few years, even though we are still few in this society I know that one day bitcoin will be used by many countries and users.
That's a great vision and hopefully we can see that one day, not for us but for the next generation. It's a long process but with continuous growth of bitcoin, we can achieve it someday. Just never lost faith with bitcoin even in times it will experience crisis as strong currency as bitcoin will vow to rise after every trials.
It is going to happen and i can ensure with you about that. When bitcoin was first created, no one knows about it for almost a year but now, the situation has changed, Bitcoin keep stronger and stronger without being stopped by any individual or system. In the future, may be 5 or six years later, I believe Bitcoin will be used in many countries Cheesy

Yes, think about who bought BTCs 5 years ago, made a lot of profit in BTCs and now it's already possible to convert to fiat and have a mega profit. Now think in the next 5 years how much will be Bitcoin pricing, a mega profit for who continue holding and waiting for the next big jump in the price. As more and more people start using it and more Bitcoin be mined, the currency price will continue increasing even more.

I am inspired with those people who bought bitcoins way back then when it was launched or when it's price is still that very affordable. I'm always saying to myself that only if I knew bitcoin earlier way back from its earlier days but who knows that bitcoin will have a good future on where we are already enjoying it today.

I admire these people too. It was a very smart move taken by them, but I do not think there are many that left their Bitcoins there: when it reached $1, people probably sold their dozens of Bitcoins without ever thinking it will go that high. Now we're tempted to do the same as the price reached over the $1000 range, but what if the same move happens and we're going to talk about the same thing after four years?
3619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: December 28, 2016, 02:33:06 PM
I just got goosebumps while reading this, haha! I hope we are too, the price just keeps rising and it's almost doubled in a few weeks only (ok we got $200 left to go, but we're still pretty close to doubling it!). I'm looking all day long on my second screen for the price to keep going up and every time I go to sleep the next day it's a few dozens up more. Good luck to everybody, I hope we'll begin a new year with an amazing price of +$1000!!! Cheesy
3620  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can trading be considered as gambling?? on: December 28, 2016, 02:30:37 PM
depending on the type of trade that you make. but in my opinion can not be considered gambling trade because trade is only the seller and the buyer so that his name no gambling in terms of trade.

It's not gambling because you can predict the price going up or down depending on the news coming up. If you have enough friends from different important political or economical positions, you're going to be able to predict things from a long time before they take place and others are noticed. That's how billionaires are buying and selling months before different news come up, affecting the prices a lot.
