3641  Economy / Economics / Re: "Cities of the future," built from scratch on: October 22, 2022, 02:05:23 PM
If someone starts such a megaproject at a time when everyone is looking to save money, then it is obvious that they have so much money that they can set the whole desert on fire with it if they want to. What you see as "waste of money" is certainly not for them, and their current ruler, like many before him, is obsessed with leaving something spectacular behind.

It just strikes me that they are building the city of the future, and at the same time, they are behaving like barbarians from the Middle Ages because they are condemning to death the members of the local tribe who protested the project. A lot of money combined with very strange laws and the lack of respect for human rights put that country at the very bottom of those I would ever visit.
3642  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Appeal For NoorulHuda. on: October 22, 2022, 01:20:00 PM
and this strategy is working? Isn't it? If their camping requires them to have x merits must be collected, then WO is an easy place to get some, just copy paste shit from the internet and leave it to WOs.

Maybe it's time to change the rules in WO, since we already have boards that have restrictions in relation to rank (Serious discussion), I think that the minimum requirement for a post in that board should be Member rank, or even better 100 earned merits. As this is certainly not something that will happen, the number of those on my ignore list increases exclusively every time I visit WO.
3643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Mining Will Be Banned Due to Fears of Climate Change? on: October 22, 2022, 01:00:57 PM
I can never be surprised at human stupidity in the sense that they blindly believe what the mainstream media serves them - and this whole agenda that the world will remain in the dark because someone is mining Bitcoin might make sense if there were no statistics and elementary mathematics. How powerful those behind such an agenda are is not in doubt at all, but all those who have an elementary education should distinguish lies from truth.

As for the EU and their plans to ban POW, just the other day in another thread I wrote that except for Germany, which supposedly has about 3% hash rate, all other countries have maybe even that much (or less), so if the EU wants to stand by China and some other democratic countries I have nothing against them showing their true colors.

What gave momentum to the anti-POW group was certainly the merge in which a popular altcoin successfully switched to POS, and some of them think that now is the right time to do the same with Bitcoin. I'm glad they don't know the difference between a centralized altcoin where all the moves are made by one person, and the Bitcoin community, which knows very well that leaving POW would mean the end of Bitcoin as we have it today.

The myth that POW threatens the climate has long been debunked, and people just need to be prepared to prove it to anyone who says otherwise.
3644  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The legal status of crypto currencies all over the world on: October 22, 2022, 10:29:24 AM
FATF removes Pakistan from the grey list just today and it will have a long lasting effect on Pakistan's economy. Although this does not directly impact on crypto adoption but the country gets a lot of freedom financially and they can take more bold decisions. I do hope we start to adopt cryptocurrency legally very soon.

Nothing happens by chance, and it is significant that Pakistan was removed from that list, perhaps for the very reason that politically (military) it aligned itself with the US, the UK and the EU when it comes to Ukraine. As I have already written before, now is the right time to choose a side, and Pakistan has chosen its side, and for that it has obviously been rewarded.

3645  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla can be worth more than Apple and Saudi Aramco combined - Elon Musk states on: October 22, 2022, 09:53:00 AM
I don't expect more of the legendary growth of Tesla, as the electric car industry has become the focus of the attention of giant companies, the cheap industry in China has disappeared, and there may be a semiconductor problem in Taiwan. All these factors will make us believe that the next will be worse.

I know there are always people who can afford expensive things, but the base Model T costs about $47 000, which is about $10 000 more than in 2019. Someone will say that other cars have also become more expensive, which is true, but for the price of 1 basic T model, you can buy at least two solid cars, or even three smaller ones.

I would not take such statements as something to be taken seriously, especially if we know that this man has already been punished by the SEC for manipulating the price of his shares in the past.

But he considers himself special, very close to the all-powerful creator, and if he wants to, he can move the BTC price up to $40k tomorrow Roll Eyes
I still don't want to check his post history but want to guess. This is the user who were spamming on boards and asking he can influence BTC price?

That's right, it's enough to visit Speculation and look at his two threads on the first page, and everything will be clear to you. Personally, I have nothing against everyone expressing their opinion and views, but such posts should be on appropriate boards. Misleading forum members that one person can influence the price of something with his actions based on religious beliefs is, in my opinion, very suspicious behavior.

Can you show the links that mprep removed?

I can't say that what I archived is 100% what was deleted, but I am quite sure that it is identical content.

3647  Economy / Speculation / Re: My advice to you regarding bear markets. on: October 22, 2022, 09:18:27 AM
Totally true and fully agree with that.
However, in most of us something sparkled the interest in cryptocurrencies. The freedom. the technology, anonymity etc. we didn't come here for the profit in the first place.
Profit came afterwards, let me say, as a reward for being involved to something new. Personally, I am not in favor for people who seek the easy and fast profit without knowing anything about the crypto space.

There are always exceptions, but most are not interested in technology, or even in understanding the basics. Some members have been here for years and still have problems defining Bitcoin and blockchain, or coin address versus private key.

It seems to me that the majority of new members spend most of their time in altcoins boards and participate in bounty campaigns, and this is not surprising considering that this forum is known in some third-world countries as a platform where you can make money just by posting social media links promoting various shady projects.

If you stay active on the forum long enough, I'm sure that some things will become much clearer to you through interaction with other members.
3648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How was first Bitcoin purchased and who provided the first liquidity for Bitcoin on: October 22, 2022, 09:02:30 AM
@cryptoaddictchie, you are not wrong, because one of the co-founders of this forum known as Sirius (Martti Malmi) made the first official Bitcoin purchase through the New Liberty Standard platform which means that it took more than 10 months from the genesis block for someone to actually make a Bitcoin - > Fiat transaction. This does not mean that someone has not done it before through p2p, but this event is still officially recorded.

Quote
There are countless solutions to convert our cryptocurrencies to fiat money and vice versa, but at the beginning of time this was not so simple. The first transaction of this type is registered on October 12, 2009 where New Liberty Standard buys a total of 5.050 BTC from Sirius for an amount of $ 5.02 through PayPal.

This operation established that approximately 1.010 BTC were equivalent to $ 1, which is the first increase in value of the price of Bitcoin and a significant appreciation.
3649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How important are exchanges? on: October 21, 2022, 03:27:11 PM
It is not at all questionable that we need crypto exchanges, but the problem is that some users consider them to be some kind of crypto banks, and that the security model is the same as in ordinary banks. Exchanges are for trading, not for long-term storage, which has been proven many times so far, especially in the case of Mt.Gox or Quadriga. The former are still waiting for partial compensation, and in the case of Mr. Cotten's story says that he literally spent a good part of the funds on bad investments, and part of it allegedly went to the grave with him.

The whole idea around Bitcoin is decentralization, and the fact that the largest CEXs have millions of Bitcoins in their possession is not something we should look forward to.
3650  Economy / Speculation / Re: My advice to you regarding bear markets. on: October 21, 2022, 01:32:18 PM
I have been in the space since 2017 - I wasn't just too bored to write here, since now  Grin - and I have seen a lot of ups and downs from the market all this time.

Some would say better late than never, but 5 years visiting the forum and not writing a single post is really too much - don't be so lazy Wink

It is obvious that people are losing attention when the market is down and they try to grab opportunities from serious even from scam projects during a bull market.

I won't write about any percentages, but when there is no profit in sight, most people are not interested in cryptocurrencies - that's how it was in the past, and I don't believe it will change in the future. Scams are always present, maybe even more so in a bear market when various projects try to sell the idea that they are better than others for some reason.

Their methodology is very simple, and it plays on one of the most widespread human traits, which is greed. If someone invests in Bitcoin today and hopes for x5 in the next few years, it's not something most people consider a great opportunity - but those who promise x50 or x100 are much more interesting, especially for inexperienced beginners.
3651  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-10-19] Europe to ban crypto mining this winter on: October 21, 2022, 01:17:16 PM
On the other hand, lighting up the streets in the middle of the night when no one is around is not a problem

I don't know how it is in other EU countries, but I know that in my country some cities introduce such reductions in principle that every other light fixture is turned off, which again led to some complaining that the streets have become too dark. It's hard to please people, because they will always find a reason to complain - like some people in my neighborhood who never turn off the lights, and then complain that they have high electricity bills.

If there is a great way to benefit from mining, I think it's in winter months so it can heat up a room and at the same time make BTC out of it.

Are there any mining rigs that are quiet or relatively quiet? I live in the belief that BTC mining is very noisy, so it is not suitable to be located in the premises where we live. Perhaps the solution is a sound-insulated room from which warm air would then be brought to the rooms we want to heat. A few years ago someone invented something similar in Russia, I remember we discussed it on the forum.
3652  Other / Meta / Re: What is wrong with this? Can it be considered a signature? on: October 21, 2022, 10:09:26 AM
Interesting replies but I'm still waiting for satisfactory answer/answers.

You can wait forever if you want, nothing will change in the way the forum will treat you as long as you behave against the rules. I'm just surprised that the moderators allow you to write such nonsense on the Economics board.

Yes, there are problems. Imagine everyone is positing something with every post they are making. It will look members are just spamming everywhere.

3653  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Cryptocurrency financial pyramids on: October 21, 2022, 09:45:34 AM
I am aware that there are such scams, but as someone who always uses AdBlock I protect myself from looking at such things at all - but I know from the experience of others that such things exist, and that they often appear as ads on local websites, or use paid ads which are displayed through searches for specific keywords. It has also become commonplace to read in local newspapers that someone has been scammed by an unknown person who promised him a profit if he invests in Bitcoin - and often quite large sums of money are involved.

It's hard for some small countries like mine to measure up to what's happening in Russia, especially if everyone knows the fact that Russians have always been among the most interested when it comes to cryptocurrencies. I recently did a little experiment where I promoted a certain website, and about one third of the traffic still comes from Russia and Ukraine.
3654  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla can be worth more than Apple and Saudi Aramco combined - Elon Musk states on: October 21, 2022, 09:30:00 AM
After the release of its Q3 earnings results on Wednesday, it was disclosed that Tesla did not sell any of it's BTC as balance sheet still show $218m in digital assets.
---
In 2021, Tesla purchased $1.5bn worth of crypto but sold of %75 of it's shares in Q2.

Of the total amount they had, they first sold 10%, and then another 75%, which leaves them with only 15%, which roughly leaves them with around 6000 BTC. It would be good if they sell that too and end the story about how Mr. Mars wishes good for anyone, except for himself and his company.

We are talking about trillions here, and at the same time a man at one point wants to charge Ukraine for using his internet for the key defense of the country, and it is a measly amount of $80 million. However, it seems that the hypocrite will finally profit from the war, because the EU is discussing paying for the use of the Internet.

Speaking to POLITICO, Landsbergis suggested Ukraine's internet access should not be left in the hands of a single "super-powerful" person who could "wake up one day and say, ‘This is no longer what I feel like doing and this is it.’ And the next day, Ukrainians might find themselves without the internet.”

He continued: “I figured that it's probably way better to have this as a contractual agreement between, let's say, a coalition of countries that could purchase a service from Mr. Musk, the Starlink service, and provide it to the Ukrainians and keep on providing it to Ukrainians.”
3655  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for IPTV on: October 20, 2022, 04:03:14 PM
First of all, why are you using the work illegal with IPTV ?
Is IPTV illegal in general or the one which you are using is illegal?

IPTV is not an illegal way of distributing media content, but it is illegal if the person who delivers the service does not pay copyrights, taxes or has any broadcasting license. All these services that you can find online (including the forum) are of course illegal, but torrents are also illegal, as is pirated software.

People use illegal IPTV because they think that nothing bad can happen to them, which is mostly true - those who are sometimes caught are mostly the providers of these services.
3656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Net Bitcoin ATMs growth drops globally for the first time ever on: October 20, 2022, 03:46:06 PM
Yeah, I think in US, working with US people before, it's actually quite hard for many apparently to get their hands on Bitcoin. Localbitcoin, which is the easiest p2p, doesn't work for you unless you want to go to jail. And not everyone can get on a Coinbase or Gemini account, apparently. So the easiest is ATMs, also to cash out BTC.

I didn't think that way, but the truth is that some US federal states have strange laws that make it impossible for some large CEXs to operate in them, but it is still a small number of federal states that should not affect such a large number of crypto ATMs in the US. It would be interesting to see the ratio of bought/sold at all those ATMs.

Where I'm from that's definitely the case (business not making profit) but here where I live now I got the impression they are actually quite popular, just around pre Covid was a bad time to dismantle running up to the bull and ATH. The Schiphol one also launched in the last "winter" so perhaps people just weren't interested then. Hard to run an ATM business when you've got to rely on interest though. I thought that airport one was the best: location, highest traffic, etc.

It makes sense because a lot of people pass there, but with the fact that many do not know what Bitcoin is, the question is how many people are psychologically ready to use such devices in airports? If you go on vacation or return home after a long time, you are more focused on other things than Bitcoin, at least it makes sense to me.
3657  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2018 Vs. 2022 on: October 20, 2022, 03:22:51 PM
No offense OP, but you posted a video of a few seconds that doesn't show anything we didn't already know. I would like you and all impatient investors to have their wish come true, but expecting anything spectacular in 2022, which is already nearing its end, is somewhat childish and naive. You have to accept that we are in the middle of a bear market, and that the trigger for a big bull run has always been a halving that won't happen before 2024.

This time is an excellent opportunity for all those who want to buy Bitcoin cheaply, and believe that they will profit from it in the future. For those who are impatient and indecisive, there is always a problem - when the price is low, they want it even lower, and when it is high, they complain that Bitcoin is too expensive.
3658  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: What to do if your Ledger key have gone in the washing machine on: October 20, 2022, 03:07:01 PM
My ledger have been more than 1 hours in the washing machine and I have save 2 on 3 with the method in the videos.

I assume that devices was not submerged in water the whole time, which would perhaps explain why it is still revived after bathing. It's not something most people should be worried about, but it's good to know what to expect if a similar situation happens to someone.

Anyway , our 12 or 24 words of recovery are always there for save de situation in the worst case ^^

Except in the event that the seed ends up in the washing machine, and it turns out that our HW is broken - that would be really bad luck, so it's wise to have at least two backups in case everything goes wrong Wink

Good news from Norway -> Hodlonaut won against Faketoshi and once again proved that pathological liar is not Satoshi. Not that we didn't know it, but every legal slap in the face of that liar is another victory for Bitcoin.

3660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: October 20, 2022, 02:38:34 PM
I know that everything is possible, but honestly I was convinced that there would be no other outcome than this - the evidence is more than clear even for someone who is not an expert, in this case a judge in a Norwegian court. Given that Hodlonaut won, does that mean he won't need the funds he collected through the campaign - and what will happen to those funds in that case?

Probably also a bunch of gaslighting to allege that he actually won in Norway.

The man is a proven pathological liar, but does it even make sense to lie that you won the case in court if the verdict is more than clear?
