3661  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin price kill Altcoins? on: February 23, 2017, 04:19:33 PM
We've been here before.

What usually happens is that when bitcoin reaches highs, people sell their alts to cash in. But if you then get a whole bunch of new users attracted to bitcoin, then interest in alts rises as they could be the "next big thing". At least that was the pattern in late 2013/early 2014.

The problem is there are too many alts, and many are very similar to others, so there might not be the same interest in alts if bitcoin really gets going.
3662  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1139.9 resistance broken, 1142.2 hit (Bitstamp) on: February 23, 2017, 04:05:52 PM
OKCoin/China and BTC-e are still lagging behind. This time there isn't Peking in the lead.
My charts at https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/huobi/btccny are flatlining, anybody knows details why?
Do not want to see another one biting the dust just now.

You must be sleeping under a rock (no offense).

This is due the chinese regulations and all the PBOC crap. They shoot themselves in the foot, now after the couple of dips that the PBOC caused, china is no longer the leading market, the 8888 top will be it, now Bitstamp and Bitfinex are about to hit a real new ATH.

also you forgot to say that Btc-e (which has nothing to do with China by the way since it is probably Russian) is always lagging behind like a limp person!
for some reason people don't buy as fast and as much bitcoin on btc-e and it can be possibly because of the money deposit/withdrawal fees they have because i don't honestly see anything wrong with their platform and they way they respect the anonymity of their users.

People find it hard to deposit on BTC-E, and some people are nervous about it as they don't know who owns it.

If you are American or European, it is easier to use Bitstamp, GDax or the other exchanges.
3663  Economy / Economics / Re: What if US Dollar Crashes? on: February 22, 2017, 06:57:10 PM
If it happens, the US government will adopt Bitcoin or any other worthy cryptocurrency in place of the USD and the demand for the currency replacing the dollar will causevitvtobgain more value than the existing ones and will hence replace the dollar as the global currency.

Nope. What they'll do is raise interest rates. Interest rate rises squeeze inflation out of the system, and also make a currency more attractive to investors, causing them to buy dollars to get the interest.

The Fed raised rates in december, and will likely raise again in either March or April. Given that other countries are not raising rates, the likelihood of the dollar crashing is slim to none.

Well, there may be a bubble in the stock exchanges.  They are looking heavy!  A lot of that confidence is based on speculation into Trump's ability to stimulate the economy...If Trump don't produce, things may get interesting.  I don't think he will be able to produce those low skill, high wage jobs he promised his supporters....Skepticism may be needed here.

Interest rates don't just affect stock markets. They affect bond markets too. If interest rates rise, money market funds would be a nice place to place money risk-free and earn some interest. And the Americans are ahead of every where else in raising rates, so the likelihood of the dollar crashing is slim to none. In fact it might get too strong, hurting exports.
3664  Economy / Speculation / Re: ladies and gentlemen we are above $1100 now! on: February 22, 2017, 05:38:51 PM
It's great to see the prices are this high, and I really hope it continues to grow as this is great news for everybody using bitcoins. I really think that it will continue to rise up till $1,500 and we'll see another correction from there. After that probably we will see that new milestone of $2,000.
Yes it seems so, prices continue to skyrocket, if we sell might have been lucky, but I recommend to be patient and hold because the price could still rise again. If this month the price never drop $1,000, I'm sure the price will reach $1,500 not more a month later.

I'm pretty confident that we'll reach $1500 sometime before the ETF decision is finalized. After that, I hope we still go up regardless of ETF results.

You think the price will rise by $300 in just two weeks?!
3665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins... One year later on: February 22, 2017, 04:10:23 PM
Almost every altcoin will survive one year later. More important, it would be better to predict which altcoins will be next the multi-bagger. The multi-bagger of last year was ETH, XEM and XMR. It would be interesting to see which altcoin can rise in the wave of the bitcoin bull market.

This. It would be better to ask which has survived several years and managed to hold onto listings on more than one exchange, and also hold onto their top ten position for liquidity.

There are very few that meet that criteria - litecoin, doge, ether and monero.

3667  Economy / Speculation / Re: THE DUMP on: February 22, 2017, 02:15:29 PM
Just sold my trading stash. Price is climbing too fast. Short  positions prepared at 1140 USD. Lots of them...

Smiley This is possible, we have a history of Bitcoin price crashing whenever there is irregular increase in price.  But I guess there is a reason to this price increase,  the hype of the upcoming ETF decision.  Isn't it too soon to short at 1140?  How about shorting right after the ATH is broken?

If everyone is going to take profits right before the ETF decision, it makes sense to move ahead of them to get a good price...
3668  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1100 broken, ATH incoming on: February 22, 2017, 01:43:26 PM
I also agree with you guys,  new ATH is inevitable .  It seems Bitcoin is in super charged bull now.  I can see it breaking $1150 and then new ATH.  This will further pushed if the ETF is approved.  New and stronger hype for bitcoin will come in due to the incoming fund if ETF is approved.   I can say $1500  Bitcoin before this June?

I can see some profits being taken around the 8th or 9th of March, just in case. Remember the ETF decision comes on 11th March which is a Saturday (an odd day to make a decision!)
3669  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hedge funds gamble on Mt Gox bitcoin payout on: February 21, 2017, 09:57:39 PM
Out of my 20k$ gox claim the hedgefund offers 3000$ in cash immediately. Would go for it? Or waiting another 2 or more years for finally not getting anything at all?

I guess it depends on how badly you need the money. I think that if you wait the 2 years you will definitely get SOMETHING. The question is, what will the price be. If you are convinced that the price is going to be higher, it makes sense to wait it out. But if you think it might crash, then take the money and run. It is a gamble and only you know whether you want to risk it.
3670  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: February 21, 2017, 03:13:25 PM
Smooth,

I tried logging into steemit on a different computer and realized I don't remember my password. I don't even remember making one, and I think I joined before the login system was changed. Luckily I'm always logged in on my laptop. Any tips before I get locked for good

If you are logged in on your laptop and your browser has stored the password, you can retrieve it and then make a note of it somewhere. (On Firefox, go to Options, then Security, and then click on saved logins)
3671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dollars And Euros Removed How We Determine The Value Of Bitcoin? on: February 21, 2017, 03:08:46 PM
We'd judge the value based on how much it cost to buy a Big Mac at McDonalds of course. It is the best way to truly value a currency. See

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac_Index
3672  Economy / Speculation / Re: ladies and gentlemen we are above $1100 now! on: February 21, 2017, 03:03:52 PM
slowly but surely bitcoin went up and then continued going up even with all the things thrown at it from different angles.
all the Chinese and their news shenanigans, all the rest of the crap talking about "flaws" which seems to be the new FUD topic around these parts.

price continues going up disregarding all of it only because investors don't give a rat's behind to any of these things Smiley

and all the dips makes them happy because they buy even more bitcoin for next continuation of the rise.

#toTheMoon

Yawn. Somehow $1100 doesn't seem to excite me. This is just a small step in the race to the moon.
Bitcoin is achieving this in spite of negative news around - the block size debate, China, Bitfinex hacking.
Next stop $1200. This should be achieved within a month's time.

The price is rising because of speculation about the ETF. But if the ETF is denied, it will drop back down again. I also expect some people will take some profits off the table in early March just in case.
3673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price of BTC - up about 150% in the past 12 months. Reasons? on: February 20, 2017, 08:12:43 PM
it is all of the above!
but you should know that a 100%-150% rise is not a new thing and it certainly was not only last year.

2011 price went from $0.3 to $3 (900%)
2012 price went from $3 to $14 (360%)
2013 price went from $14 to $1200 i'd like to think real price was $180-$200 (1300%)
the Mt Gox correction took some time but before that price was rising the same way.
2015 started from $200ish and ended at $450 (125%)
and 2016 from $450 to $1166 (160%)

p.s. the numbers may be a tiny bit off the mark, check price history for accuracy!

Halving, plus ETF, plus capital flight from China (though that part might be abating because of PBOC actions).
3674  Economy / Speculation / Re: 11th March, SEC approve or not bitcoin in ETF on: February 20, 2017, 05:34:00 PM
SEC also fights against trading with insider information, which makes me directly wonder whether or not a few of these employees will open up positions in Bitcoin as they basically before everyone else know that it is going to be approved (in case it does get approved). I definitely wouldn't be surprised if that happen to be the reality. SEC is nothing more than a joke with how they operate and "guard" the market.

The same also works in the other direction.
Guys with an information advantage might also place some big short positions in case the ETF gets rejected.

Some speculators will definitely take some profits around 8th March, just in case the ETF is rejected.

It is worth remembering that the Winklevoss ETF is not the only one under consideration, there are two others.
3675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Becoming rich owning all altcoins in 5 years? on: February 20, 2017, 01:41:49 PM
Ripple, Dash, Maidsafe
Ripple - are you really fine with a company which wants ultimately create 100 billion tokens while keeping half of it?

Dash - if you are into secretly instamined coins then Dash will be the best for you. /s

Maidsafe - this coin has great potential, if developers could deliver for once and fulfill their promises. Until then it is only forever Soon™️️ type of a project.

I think he is looking at coins purely on a profit basis, rather than whether the philosophy is right. So a speculator doesn't care about instamines or centralisation. Only whether the price rises after the speculator has purchased the coin.
3676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google Trends: a big rise in interest in bitcoin specially in Africa on: February 20, 2017, 12:45:58 PM
I wonder what prompted this sudden interest from Nigeria especially?
Is Nigeria's currency somewhat unstable at the moment or are the scammers there just discovering Bitcoin all of a sudden?

Nigeria is an oil economy and they have been struggling a bit since the oil price collapsed from the $100 level in 2014. Though of course they are in better shape than Russia or Venezuela.

The Nigerian economy is in deep recession, and Russia is faring much better. In 2016, the Nigerian economy shrunk by 1.54% (worse than the predictions), while the Russian economy shrunk by just 0.2% (much better than the expectations).

I'm hearing stories of people not getting paid in Russia, and protests about it in many cities.

Russia is experiencing terrible inflation as well because the ruble collapsed in value. They are definitely in a worse condition than Nigeria, Nigeria at least grows it's own food.
3677  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hedge funds gamble on Mt Gox bitcoin payout on: February 20, 2017, 01:05:14 AM
I'm surprised that they are able to recover anything, but this could be a positive for Bitcoin. It could be a sign to potential investors that even in scams or hacks, some coins can be recovered.

If this is recovered, people will massive dump bitcoin, when mtgox dead, the price was 400 usd, they have chance to dump at 1000 usd, and they will dump it.

The coins have been recovered and the status of the claims has been verified, but we are a long way before people actually get compensated. It might take another year to finalise. That is kinda why the hedge funds are making their offer to claimants - they pay cash to take ownership of the claim. The claimant gets money now, the hedge fund is gambling that they will make money in the future when the coins get paid and are worth a lot more.
3678  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for a “ebay” that accept Bitcoin on: February 19, 2017, 07:55:15 PM
You can use Peerhub, which operates like Ebay. All sales are in Steem, and you can then sell your steem on either poloniex or bittrex for bitcoin:

3679  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Becoming rich owning all altcoins in 5 years? on: February 19, 2017, 06:58:03 PM
Currently I own more than 1000 altcoins of some of the more prominent ones since yesterday and can say I am 29% up in 1 one day, please feedback.

Do you want to share which coins you bought?
3680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goodbye Bitcoin on: February 19, 2017, 05:21:54 PM
It is definitely true that lots of people were lured into bitcoin with the claim that it has no fees or lower fees than other payment methods. That is shot to pieces.

But if bitcoin doesn't survive, I think another cryptocurrency will take it's place. There are plenty that have quick confirmation times, and coins like Steem that move money based on your name, not a huge string address. So this isn't the end of cryptocurrency. it is just natural selection to find the best version.
