I'm not sure if it creates any liabilities for the forum or not to offer this as a built-in feature, I'd guess it is probably not a good idea from a security perspective. But it is fairly easy to do it on most browsers by right-clicking, inspecting the element, and changing the <input type="password"* to <input type="text"* and the password will display. A few steps but shouldn't be too hard to script a plugin or something if you really wanted it.  Smiley
It is for coder like suchmoon. He developed a tool for the forum that is likely neglected since November 2020.  Smiley

You should also avoid cut/copy & pasting passwords, as the 'clipboard' in your machine is definitely not a secure place for a password.

KeePass I a perfect tool, you store your credentials in the program and when you log in you just use the autofill option.
I agree with the risk of compromises by copy-paste steps. @Great Arkansas wrote a good topic on password and recommended some password managers.

Let's me remind newbies that password should be strong but in case you lose access to your password, you will need a bitcoin signed message to recover your account.

3663  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDE - Personal Experience] How to get started with Mining on: March 30, 2021, 01:50:15 PM
Do mining really profitable?
If you ask my decision. It is time to sell your old cards, dead cards or your old rigs. Sell them and enjoy the overvalued price you can sell in this period. Why not take profit and enjoy your life now? Old rigs now can be sold at 75% of price you bought it 4 years ago. It is more than a free gift for you.

If you love mining, you can join again when things are down and price of cards, rigs are cheaper. You can use that money to reinvest in new rigs or second-hand rigs but with better hardwares next 2 years.

Profit in mining is affected by crypto market. In bear market two years ago, you get negative figure if you are short term miner: mine and pay in the same month.
Mining is the game for big farms which can reserve their cryptocurrency when price is cheap and pick money out of own pockets to pay power bills.
3664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Do I invest in Crypto and Which Coin Should I invest in? on: March 29, 2021, 01:29:21 PM
Firstly, your topic title is bad. It makes me guessing that you are asking for help. In fact, you are teaching others about your methodology to invest.

What is Cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that is decentralized and encrypted to enhance privacy. Bitcoin, the first of its kind, is based on blockchain technology, a decentralized and transparent ledger system.
Not all cryptocurrencies are decentralized and not all of them can protect your privacy.

Where can I buy Crypto?
You need a place to buy your desired coins and a place to store it. The most popular place to purchase cryptocurrency are cryptocurrency exchanges, there are several exchanges to choose from, such as binance, coinbase, kraken, paxful e.t.c.
Choose biggest exchanges and most trusted ones to trade. Don't store your crypto on exchanges longer than what you need. When you finish your trades, withdraw your crypto instantly to your non-custodial wallets.

Quote
To store your currency, you need a cryptocurrency wallet, which is necessary to securely store the code that makes up your coins. You can use electrum wallet, blockchain, or you can use a hard wallet.
Hardware wallet, not hard wallet.
Also you forgot about the importance of non-custodial wallets.

How Do I know which coins to Buy?
The most popular crypto right now is Bitcoin and Etheruem. They are always a good buy.
It depends on the market phase: bullish or bearish and how long you are planning to let your position opens in the market.

If you are looking into alts, you have to do thorough research before buying any cryptocurrency. There are lot of scams out there. You should check the coin cap, read the white paper and see if you're interested in the project. Don't just listen to rumours and tweets. Things are usually in fast motion in the crypto space. I honestly cant give financial advice on this subject but I'd suggest if you're investing in a coin you should look at the tech behind it first and then the publicity.
Scam developers are good to polish their documents, white papers and outlines very promising roadmaps. Investors are not IT guys so they can not understand technology behind cryptocurrencies.
3665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Do I invest in Crypto and Which Coin Should I invest in? on: March 29, 2021, 11:24:47 AM
In the period from 2014 to 2017, I invested in some altcoins, and I can say that these are mostly failed projects today, and those who are still alive are well on their way to becoming so. If you already decide to play a game with altcoins, then you do it by trading in the short term - because it is a game where new coins always replace old ones, with the same old ideas and new names.
Altcoin bull runs won't last more than one year and after each market cycle (about 4 years), many of them are dead projects.

Polkadot, NFT are hottest altcoins in the new generation for this cycle (2020 - 2024, assumed so) and they will have serious tests when the bull runs away next one year. If they can survive through bear tests and have some hype upgrades like ETH 2.0, they can move back their all time high in this year. If not, they will die in the hell holes.

NFT won't mean anything for long term. Polkadot claims to replace Ethereum but only times can verify their promises. At least Ethereum should have temporary competitors.
3666  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Thoughts on My First Ever Trade BTC Long on: March 29, 2021, 06:40:52 AM
There, you are just being rational.

I am too cautious to predict “when”; but for my part, I will answer the “why”:  Bitcoin’s fundamentals.

We are in the mid-$50k range with ATH >$60k, and very far from market saturation.  Market cap is over $1 trillion.  Absent a mass-catastrophe (e.g., disappearance of the Internet), the size of the Bitcoin market will grow at least another 20x–30x.  That is a conservative estimation; it will probably grow much more.
I know that and my questions are for OP.

As he want to sell at $100,000, he should have reasons behind his belief or plans. Why (fundamentals): I agree with you) but if OP don't have clear idea on why bitcoin should increase in price, just buy because of FOMO and heard of others, crowd effects, he can be wrong. He might lose his bitcoin (from liquidation) and at the time bitcoin is trading at $100,000, he won't have bitcoin to sell.

WHEN question does not make sense if he want to sell from Spot trading, but with Leverage trading it becomes a very important question.

Quote
Supply is capped.  >88% of maximum supply already exists.  We currently have a low inflation rate, which will be economically negligible after the next halving.  Therefore, price must increase.
I know too. With the next one or even later two halvings, bitcoin block rewards will be very low and it will be time to significantly increase the awareness of bitcoin deflation. It began with 2020 May halving but will become bigger.

Many millions of bitcoin were lost and more will be lost.

Quote
This analysis ignores the inevitable and accelerating devaluation of the dollar.  When I call Bitcoin at a long-term value of over $1 million, that is according to the value of today’s dollars.
The devaluation of dollar is one of factors and it is not a determinant for the price of bitcoin. Bitcoin will hit $100,000 for example but instead of hitting that price in 2024, it can be done in 2021. Covid-19 reflects the dollar devaluation for the crowd.

Quote
If Bitcion >$1 million seems crazy to you, just remember how crazy “Bitcoin >$50k” would have sounded five years ago.

—Oh, did you say $100k?
No. It is reasonable for me, not crazy.  Cheesy

According to some models and fundamentals of bitcoin.

In: 55K

SL: ? should I?

TP: 100k

3x

Liq Price: 38K

20% of my portfolio
Why do you think bitcoin will hit $100,000?
When do you think it will hit $100,000?

The WHEN question is important, it affects your plans:
  • Interest you have to pay in meantime with your Long position
  • It contains how long you will take risks. Price is volatile and everything can happen till the day WHEN bitcoin hits $100,000
  • Are you sure that your LONG position won't be liquidated. Even with 3x leverage, do you think your position will never be liquidated? If liquidation is possible, at which price, have you calculated it yet?
  • 3x leverage is good but 20% of capital is too high IMO (it should be 10% or 5%).
  • Why do you not not simply buy with Sport trading and withdraw your bitcoin from exchange wallet to your non custodial wallet? Hold it and wait for $100,000 to take profit. This year, next year or next 4 year, it is very possible.
3668  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Google Trend and Bitcoin price. Do retailers rejoin the party? on: March 29, 2021, 04:01:28 AM

  • Google Trend statistics are more volatile with Bitcoin search rather than Bitcointalk (bitcointalk.org) search
  • I am guessing most of new accounts were registered and made posts on the forum recent months are old people who are familiar with the forum. Very limited new registered members are new and knew about the forum with Google Search engine in 2020 or early 2021.
  • Statistics for Bitcoin keyword decreased and can drop deeper before bouncing back. Or it can bounce back from current range
  • These charts don't give any clue that price will move upwards or downwards but it proves that retail investors are weak hands (as always)
  • Volume of bitcoin on exchanges have been decreasing and currently stays at the same level as in 2020

3669  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My first topic on BitcoinTalk on: March 28, 2021, 02:17:40 PM
Am I correct in assuming that at best, to rise to Jr. Member in about a month?
Yes, at best.

You can or can not rank up to Junior member rank. It is up to you do meet 2 conditions or not. Activity requirement is easy, just make enough or more than 30 posts. Merit requirement is harder to meet. It is up to quality of your posts and your contribution in the community.
3670  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My first topic on BitcoinTalk on: March 28, 2021, 01:54:45 PM
I now have the rank of Newbie, in 2 weeks I will be able to get Jr. Member. That's great, I'll do my best
You can not automatically rank up to Junior member after 2 weeks. Your activity will be at least 30 that equals to three 14-days periods. Each 14 days period, your activity will be capped at 14 points, maximum. After 28 days, you will have max 28 activities. The days from 29 to 42, you will have max 42 activities.

If you meet activity requirement, you need one more condition. Merit, at least 1+ merit.

Junior member: 30+ activities & 1+ merit.
3671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the official uses of bitcoin other then trading? on: March 28, 2021, 01:45:59 PM
Bitcoin is created for borderless transactions that also can not be controlled by any institution, government, group or a single third-party person.

If you have a non custodial wallet and have its private key/ mnemonic seed (depends on each wallet), you control your bitcoin you have. You can control your bitcoin transaction and keep it anonymous.

Trading is derivative from exchanges, not from bitcoin Whitepaper. Spot trading and now exchanges have Future trading. More products can be released in the future. All fo derivatives don't change the main use case of bitcoin: transactions.
3672  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchange rates - crypto to fiat on: March 27, 2021, 09:42:00 AM
I was surprised to find out that by selling crypto  in a fiat currency I always lose some money.
You will lose fee for a service on which you do your exchange (from crypto to fiat).

Which exchange do you use?
Do you read their fee schedule?
  • Search with Google and keywords: name of exchange + fee schedule
  • Search in their main page or FAQ page: keyword is fee.
  • Also you can check here: cryptowisser.com

Quote
The homescreen of the app was showing that I have a certain amount of money but when I sold it was less by 10euro
I don't know which exchange you used for that trade but 10 euro is a small amount. On Binance, the minimum trade is $10. You can not set an order with value less than $10.

Basically, the smaller your trade or your transaction (withdrawal) is, the bigger proportion of loss will be spent to exchange fee or transaction fee.
3673  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A quick thought on how to help/save bitcoin. on: March 27, 2021, 09:36:16 AM
Just a thought, We have all witnessed how just a tweet from a top individual in society can influence the price of bitcoin. We have also seen many people tweet about something so much, it becomes a trend and something popular that almost everyone hears about. This has got me thinking; if we all collectively pick a day or a period of time and all agree to tweet, post and create a trend about bitcoin that will last a while on twitter or any other social media platform, will this help the current price of bitcoin get to a higher ATH?
Tweets can not help bitcoin price move to new all time highs.
  • The awareness of more people about the scarcity of bitcoin does.
  • The increasing difficulty and the more expensive cost to mine one bitcoin do.
  • The fear of can not able to own any bitcoin does.
  • If you consider the main force of the market is institutes & institutional investments (not retail investments), tweets don't change their plans.
3674  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ General guidelines to new users] on: March 27, 2021, 09:24:19 AM
Just a tip, for the easy perception of your texts, make your sentences shorter. This is not a criticism, but friendly advice.
Sometimes people will hate you when you give them friendly advice. Anyway, I appreciate your advice.

Not only you or me but also the admin gives them a friendly advice. Maybe they hate you or me because of our advice but don't hate the admin.

With same information, the shorter the better expression of idea. Succinct sentences are best.
When trying to write quality posts, a lot of people act as though they're writing a book report for school: putting facts that we already know into their own words. Nobody wants to read that, and you will not get merit for it. Moreover, the length of your post and the quality of your English are only minor factors. In trying to write a quality post worthy of merit, you should offer new ideas, personal experiences, or perspectives that other forum users will actually find new and interesting.
3675  Other / Meta / Re: Pre-Legendary VS Legendary Merit Stats on: March 25, 2021, 01:34:37 PM
When analyzing the data you should also take the timeframe into consideration.
There are four periods (from my point of view) of the merit system
  • First one week after it was kicked off: people used their smerit for non-sense or too easily. It can be from people who just sent it as a like (on Facebook) or love (on Twitter). It also can be from abusers who sent smerits to their alts.
  • After that, till 17 September of 2018 (when the enhanced merit system, the derank on 0-earned merit Junior members were applied): people are strictly with merited posts. Detectives work so hard and break abusers down.
  • A few weeks after 17 Sep. 2018, many old-era Sr.+ members sent their smerits to newbie alts to promote them back to Junior members.
  • Since mid of November 2019 when new merit sources added and monthly sourced merits were re-allocated, it seems smerits have been more easily to be exchanged. It is a failure of the merit system. Fortunately, I feel happy that theymos does not change monthly allocated sourced merit.
If merit sources use their sourced merits for their personal interest, it is a failure of the merit system.

Quote
For example in early days of merit system introduction all users had the airdropped smerits and they were spending them more freely compared to today that [almost] everyone's smerits are earned and they are more tight fisted when it comes to spending it, specially when you earn little and have to spend more. That means users think about prioritizing who they give merit to more than before.
Agree with you partially.
3676  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Research information on bitcoin adaptation on: March 25, 2021, 03:02:55 AM
Also, bearing in mind that 1000 sample size from similar backgrounds, which is usually the case if they live in the area that the survey was conducted, isn't as good as multiple 1000 sample sizes from various different backgrounds. Unfortunately, a survey is never really a great example of integrity, as there will be those that lie, and bend the truth
Agree with you. As said, there are many factors that contribute to bias results of one survey. Sampling method, sample size, quality of questionnaires are only one of them.
Bigger sample size are better but it does not a perfect guarantee for quality and data interpretation if other factors are bad (terrible sampling method -- selection bias, poor quality questionnaires).

Quote
or if English isn't their primary language, and the survey is conducted in English then that itself can lead to interpretation issues, which might skew the results.
It is why I asked the question about the language in the questionnaire and the main language in Nigeria.
  • If the interviewer ask interviewee with their own translation from English to Nigerian language, it can cause information bias.
  • If the interview collect a group of interviewees, give them questionnaire and let them being free to answer queries in group(s), observer bias will occur.

COMPILATION OF RESULT (in OP) is a draw table and it does not tell a story to readers. It should be presented better for descriptive statistics.
3677  Other / Meta / Re: Pre-Legendary VS Legendary Merit Stats on: March 25, 2021, 02:46:10 AM
Many factors
  • Your contributions (past and current). Some forever legendary members as @satoshi or @Hal still be able to receive many merits even they were inactively for many years (@Hal was gone away). Their accounts passively receive merits from huge contributions in the past.
  • Posting intensity: It is about current contributions. If you don't post, you don't get merit for your newest contributions.
  • Posting habit: it is the initial rank to begin with the merit system.
    • If a member began as a newbie or Junior member with the merits system, I believe that one will have very good posting habit.
    • Ranking up is a motivation and a journey from Newbie to Legendary (new-era newbie) is very long and challenging. When hits the Legendary rank, it is hard to change from good posting habit to bad or shit posting habit. Some might change but not all.
    • The same for old-era legendary members: some are not here to earn from post count, they post naturally. Their post quality does not change over years. Always have exceptions: satisfy with rank and only make average quality post to get weekly earnings
  • Which sort of signature campaigns they are in
    • If they are in signature campaigns. Quality of campaign will indirectly affect their post quality.
    • Manager: if the manager only count quality posts, they will have to keep up their quality. In turn, they will be able to earn merit as almost same speed as before

Merit is not a correct parameter for quality of posts. Some members earned merits from shit posts. What a shame!
3678  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk's historical important changes on: March 25, 2021, 02:32:34 AM
Bump  after many months!

I only knew about the restriction on a maximum of trust feedback per one user. Updated OP too.

4. 5 trust feedback per user
It was applied since 2nd February 2019
OK, new limits:
 - You can't give more than 5 ratings to a single user.
 - Your total sent ratings is limited to three times your activity, but at least 1.
 - The comment length is limited to 600 characters, but each newline counts as 120 characters.
3679  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why we should avoid low liquidity exchanges on: March 24, 2021, 04:25:54 PM
I prefer Gate.io as the starting place to buy RNDR when it will be listed on kucoin. Gate.io has the largest volume and the most liquidity.
Gate.io is a good exchange as following reasons
  • a 8-years old exchange
  • Keen on USDT trading pairs
  • a trusted exchange
  • It is ranked at 19th position on coinmarketcap
  • fast support for airdrop distributions. It is one of very first exchanges that allocate airdropped Symbol (XYM) and list trading pairs for that coin
3680  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Remove Topics from this list? on: March 24, 2021, 04:14:32 PM
You got it because you replied in those topics. You can do what Jawhead and nc50lc guided.

Other solutions:
  • Watchlist (at top left corner) > Edit your watchlist > Check those topics > Remove checked
  • Profile > Notifications and Email >  Automatically watch topics after replying to them (untick it). It will prevent same annoyance in the future but you should make sure that you want this restriction.
