3661  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the mathematical puzzle miner solve? on: May 04, 2021, 10:20:56 AM
When we read article on mining, we get a term "solving mathematical puzzle". To get a block, miner needs to solve the mathematical puzzle and whoever can solve the puzzle will be able to get a block and thus the reward (I can be wrong technically, this is what I know).
What's this puzzle all about? What do miner exactly solve? Please try to avoid technical term if possible, I would like to know in easy way.

I will try to keep this simple.
To understand the puzzle you will first have to understand how the SHA256 algorithm works.

Each block contains a merkle root, block header, block size, transactions, transaction count, nonce etc...
A miner uses his hashing power to generate hash of a block. This is where the SHA256 hashing algorithm comes into picture.
Example: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/0000000000000000000ab0825fc30cf2844723262e0c0f2bfd048b2e752029da

The mathematical puzzle which the bitcoin miners solve are nothing but the hash with required number of leading zeroes.
The number of leading zeroes are determined based on the difficulty and when a miner finds out the particular hash, it signals the other miners regarding the same thus claiming the block rewards.
3662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The problem is that it could take again many years to recover on: May 03, 2021, 05:43:32 PM
I have no problems seeing a bright future for BTC, but after a major retracement it might again take many years to recover. Look at the last sell off down to $3700. It took almost 4 years to make new ATH.
So should this be the major, expected drop, it could again take many years for BTC to reach 100k.
Many people will be dead before BTC will reach 1 mio.

May be
May be not

There are two possibilities

1. Long bears are followed by long bulls - in this case what you said might be true

2. The previous bear trends were completely due to panic sellers and weak hands.
This time the institutional investors are here and it's kinda hard for long bears to occur again unless they leave the market.
Most of the corrections in last 8 months were short-lived and bought by the traders.
3663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: chances of bank closing account if you buy bitcoin on: May 03, 2021, 05:38:06 PM
What are the chances of a bank closing your account if you buy bitcoin? i have heard people say they closed down their bank account for buying bitcoin, but this might have been a few years ago. he only said they closed his account, there is no chance of them taking all the money in your account, correct?

The least thing bankers can do is "freeze" the bank account. This only happens when the country you live in has either restricted cryptocurrencies or has no law over it.
If the latter then it depends on the banks whether they want to support cryptocurrency related fiat transactions or not.
Even if that's the case and the bank doesn't support crypto related fiat transactions then all they can do is "freeze" the amount in your bank.
They do not have the rights to access your funds or dissolve your funds. In this case you can go to the bank and get your funds withdrawn either by closing the bank account or by giving them assurance of not doing crypto transactions again.

In that report it says "Use a resolution of the screen bellow 1600x1024 and press Ctrl+f to open the Bisq Filter tool." What does the filter tool have to do with it, I saw nothing in their that would fix the probem,

That page just says how to reproduce the given issue. It doesn't show any way to fix the problem yet.
I tried installing the app on my laptop and everything seems to be fine. I tried to reproduce the issue but everything was working.
Yes, I agree there were many popups and it were terribly slow. But I was able to scroll.
May be you have a slow internet connection or a low end machine which is taking longer to load the page ?
In every pop-up there was a button to close the popup. Try hitting the "tab" button on your keyboard to see if it takes you to the "Close" button and then hit "enter".
3665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Government Controls Crypto? on: May 03, 2021, 05:04:55 PM
Ok so there are people who say that crypto is decentralized and cannot be controlled by the government. How can this be true when the government can shut down the companies or networks where you are able to buy, sell, or send crypto? What do you guys think? Do you all think that crypto is truly decentralized and cannot be controlled by the government or can they? Maybe not directly but indirectly controlled?

It all depends on the perspective. Governments cannot control crypto directly since they are not the one who developed it.
They don't any access over the specific blockchain network. What they can do though is that they can restrict the company from operating in that locality.
But still the company has the option to operate the network from countries which are crypto friendly.
So yeah, Government cannot control crypto directly.

That could have happened with the best of us. Gambling is such a thing where even the best gambler can lose all his money.
In your case though, it was your mindset of earning money through a shortcut that drove you down.
If you had the ability to patiently wait then you could have simply invested/traded and got some decent profits.
A gambler should definitely have control over his emotions and greed to overcome the disadvantages of gambling.
3668  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sicodice.com surprised me!! bitcoin dogecoin dice on: May 02, 2021, 03:46:37 PM
I couldn't find any real reviews about this dice site hopefully my review will help !

I got brave with Live support MIA I went ahead and made a deposited. approx 200 dogecoin value at that time about $80usd.

My deposit arrived and was added instantly to my balance as expected. I had some questions but live support was still non existent and this started to worry me but i played on and with a auto strat i left running over night i turned the 200 into over 2000 doge. So i made a 1000 doge withdraw value about $400 . support was still MIA but the withdraw was sent! It did take 48 hours but im relieved its legit and not a scam site.

I also then took the remainder of my balance up to 3000 doge with the same strat . I'm from usa and didn't use any vpn i think this is important at this site. If anyone plans on using the site.
Here is a non affiliate link to this dice site   sicodice.com i do have a affiliate link i just dont want to dilute my review.

Wow that's some nice profits. But it would have been better if you would have posted the proof of your winning and withdrawals.
People generally don't believe without any proof of profits.
3669  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dubai's Government and Gambling on: May 02, 2021, 03:33:52 PM
Well I do think you can very easily use crypto Gambling overseas and instead of your bank accounts you can use bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies and sell them p2p. Yes ofcourse you should not go against the Government. But that does not stop you from finding loopholes, does it ?

This reminds me of Goa which is in India. Gambling is prohibited here but they have found a loop hole and are operating gambling casinos.
The gambling restriction is implemented on land and so the people in Goa have built casinos on ships.
Technically they are operating the casinos on water and not on land which bypasses the restriction from the government  Grin
The government also seems fine with it  Grin

Do you guys check in at Lucky Spin Bonus? I attempt to perform Lucky Spin regular however seems like jb token pick me as forever. Now, I'm getting bored really! I would be surprised if anyone get 1 BTC.
Maybe you are not lucky enough, I did the spin quite often there (not really on regular basis) and sometimes get decent prizes like doge, xlm, and trx. On the other hand, I believe other prizes that start from 5 xrp to the left side are just bait or decor.

Quote
In near future any possibility BC.GAME offering us trade jb token?
I doubt that will occur since they have BCD already and as we all know it can be converted to any of our desire coins.

Even I try to spin the free spin everyday and so far I have received 50 Doge twice, 1 TRX and 1 XLM a couple of times.
I don't think anybody would have ever received the 1 BTC reward ever on BC.GAME and I think nobody ever will unless he is the luckiest.

Anyways, continue playing the WOF every day and you might get a chance to receive other huge rewards such as Gold tickets, Iphone 12 or even the Rolex. My luckiest spin was a Golden ticket yet but I am hoping to win those Rolex and Phone rewards as I think those are super rare.
You still have a chance to get what you want,

WOF has 15 prizes;

the last quote (group 4 and 5) is very rare, as I know when I look at proof from a member who got the prizes, the top quote (group of 1,2,3) is always seen every day here.

Groups 4 & 5 are indeed very rare. You must be lucky to get one of the prizes in these groups.
So far I have received all the prizes in group 1, 2 and 3 but never got any prize from the remaining groups.
Still I try to spin the WOF everyday in the hope to score one of the prizes in group 4 and  5.
3672  Economy / Gambling / Re: Using multiple betting accounts (Bet365 etc.) on: May 01, 2021, 02:06:10 PM
Hello,

does anyone here have any experience with using multiple betting accounts without documents from friends? I have some questions and would be happy if someone could help me with that. Ive been limited on some betting accounts and would like to create more (obviously cant with my own documents anymore and dont want to ask friends for documents).

Greetings

What's the purpose of creating multiple accounts anyway ?
It's morally incorrect to have multiple accounts on the same site. I don't think it will do any good to you.
Besides if you get caught for the same from the website then they will simply ban you from the website.
So sticking to one account should be ideal for everybody.
3673  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Block data download speed on: April 30, 2021, 04:49:20 PM
Alternatively, start bitcoind with -dbcache=2048.

Yup that worked. Used SSD, overclocked and increased the dbcache.
The download speed has increased drastically now.
I can say that the speed has increased at least by 30% - 40% from what it was earlier.

Definitely a CPU bottleneck... the download of the data is only a small part of the syncing process... it's the actual number crunching of the block data to verify it (and all the IO read/writes) that will be making the Pi slow.

From a review of the Pi 400 that I saw... they had put in a large metal plate to act as a kind of heat spreader off the CPU to try and dissipate heat...

And from a write-up testing this cooling solution, it seems that this heat spreader actually does a better job for the Pi400 than a standard Pi4B with a cooling fan! Shocked Shocked Shocked

So, it'll likely be a combination of "low end" CPU + Disk I/O that is slowing things down, tbh.

Yes the CPU temperature is much better in Pi 400. I had been monitoring the CPU temperature and even after overclocking the temperature never crossed 55 degrees.

I do have a spare 480 GB SSD. I will use it for the time being to download the block data and then transfer the block data back to HDD when it's fully synchronized.
I have my .bitcoin directory on SSD, and inside it is a symlink that puts the blocks directory on HDD. That's enough to remove the HDD as bottleneck, without taking too my space on my (much smaller) SSD.

That's a nice way to get around the CPU bottleneck. Will keep in this mind in case I need to implement it.
So far the performance is increased since I am now using a SSD itself to store the block data.
3674  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Block data download speed on: April 29, 2021, 04:52:27 PM
What are the ram/memory specs of this unit? Is that 4GB ram?
Follow the ranochigo suggestion and put dbcache in bitcoin.conf file with this setting "dbcache=2048" only use this if that raspi 400 has 4GB ram.

Another suggestion if you want to speed it up more there is a big increase in performance if you switch to SSD as your storage. I know HDD is cheap but if you want to run a full node and want it to speed up the syncing process you need to switch to SSD.

Or borrow SSD from your friends temporarily until you downloaded the whole blockchain and transfer them to your HDD.

Thanks for that info. I do have a spare 480 GB SSD. I will use it for the time being to download the block data and then transfer the block data back to HDD when it's fully synchronized.

Regarding dbcache, I just looked up and there seems to be no folder called .bitcoin in my home directory.
I am using an external HDD and whole installation has been done on the HDD itself.
Should I create a new folder ./bitcoin and then place the new conf while there ?
3675  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Block data download speed on: April 29, 2021, 04:06:45 PM
Bitcoin Core has a parallel download during the IBD with the headers-first synchronization. The speed shouldn't be solely limited to a single peer as the blocks can be downloaded in no specific order, as long as the block hashes are in the headers on the best tip.

Now, with Raspberry Pi, there are several bottlenecks, the USB port (for the external HDD) and the CPU speed. The CPU speed is probably your main problem; Raspberry Pis are very underpowered and it would take days for a completely synchronization without assumevalid (in my case) but some script validations are skipped with assumevalid. Bitcoin Core still has to validate the blocks, transactions, etc and also build the chainstate and index the block. These are heavily reliant on your CPU which is unfortunately not an area Raspberry Pis excel in.

So there's pretty much nothing I can do about it. I will try overclocking the Pi to 2GHz to boost it a little.

Quote
What I've done when I ran a node on my Pi is to synchronize on my actual computer before transferring the entire directory to an external HDD and point my Raspberry Pi's Bitcoin Core datadir at it. This skips most of the heavily validation on the Pi and reduces the time taken for it to be up and running.

Even I had downloaded the first 35% of block data through my Ryzen 5 laptop initially but since I couldn't keep it on for a long time I though to transfer the data to my Pi and run it 24x7. Well, yeah it's been a few days now and I am at 42% still.

Let's see how much boost does the overclocking gives to the Pi.
3676  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Block data download speed on: April 29, 2021, 02:46:50 PM
So recently, I had setup a bitcoin full node on my Raspberry Pi 400 and started to download the block data.
I noticed that although my internet speed is good the block data is getting downloaded at a very slow speed.
I am not sure but I think it might be because of one of the following reasons

Internet traffic (I use the wifi on 3 devices including the raspberry)
Low system config (obviously the raspberry has a low end config. Does it have something to do with slow downloading of block data ?)

My internet speed is 100 Mbps (megabits) constant yet it takes about 45 minutes to download 150 MB of block data.
Is that normal ?

If anyone wants to look at my Raspberry Pi 400 setup

3677  Economy / Trading Discussion / Investing Urge or Trading Surge on: April 29, 2021, 02:39:02 PM
So I am in a situation where I have found a potential project I can invest in for the long term and gain huge profits.
At the same time the current market seems the correction is over and another bull run might start.

I am having an urge to invest all that I can in the potential project I like but it is also a good time to diversify the portfolio and trade some nice coins to gain short term profits.
What would you guys do if you were in such a situation ?

@mk4
how long you're planning on holding
I can hold very long. Let's say 15 years or so.

what your other investments are(inside and outside crypto)
BTC and ETH
Little amount in Mutual Funds

what your asset allocations are
Not sure how would I describe that

what your trading strategies are
More of swing trading. Buy the dip, wait for a good price to sell (time doesn't matter)

what your risk appetite is, and how much money you can afford to lose
I can afford to lose not more than 25%
3678  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To keep coin long term on: April 28, 2021, 06:01:10 PM
Lately, I have some list of top coins that haven't hit ATH perfectly yet. My choice is the BNB, LTC and BTT coins have the opportunity to reach new ATH, I am not not suggesting BTC and ETH but the current price is still too high and maybe you can buy it if the price is corrected below.

That's an everlasting debate. A few years ago $20,000 was "too high" to buy yet here we are wishing we could get in at that point.
This is why even I have stopped using such statements. No price can be too high or too low since it's just a speculation and it keeps changing.

Hello community here,

I am newbie here and happy to join here.

My ask is what will be your advices about keeping a coin long term ? Which coin is worth for it?

any ideas will be appreciated.

The best thing for you would be to do some research on the top 10 or 15 coins and then list out which coins you like.
I would say pick the best two apart from BTC and ETH and then diversify your investment into the 4 coins.
3679  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How to sell btc and recive payment thru phonepe on: April 28, 2021, 05:13:35 PM
Thank you all, what I understand is that i am expected to give my name also along with UPI ID for selling btc or else no one is ready to trade in phonepe.

It would have been better if you would have posted your userid here so that we could take a look into your profile on paxful and point out why you didn't get any response.
I believe it could be one of the below reasons

  • Your rating must be low
  • Your price must be high
  • Too much competition

P.S : You can go to your profile and copy the URL and paste it here to get better response
