3681  Economy / Speculation / Re: Foolproof plan: Sell above 400$, rebuy on holidays on: December 09, 2015, 09:23:00 PM
As with everything in the BTC world there is no foolproof plan.

Only deal with what you're OK losing.

Do your research and don't necessarily rely on others.

You should change thread title.  Say "Almost Foolproof plan" as you agree it is no foolproof plans in bitcoin.   And I could be all wet.

I just see difficulty going up and up... I don't think your going to get so lucky that you can call it fool proof in today's mining.
3682  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Columbia Basin Mining - Land offer for Bitcoin Mining on: December 09, 2015, 09:21:13 PM
The sale of this 80-acre property was offered exclusively to CBM from the owner for $1,500,000 and the owner will finance for 12 years with a $250,000 down payment. This property includes a farm home, and heated shop, and two cold water wells capable of producing over 1,000 gallons/min. Farming alone would cover half the annual payment of $90,000, and seller will defer any interest and un-covered annual payment into one balloon payment at the end.

Your combining two very different investments I think.  80 acres is a good amount of farm land.  For a data center you don't need anywhere near this. You just need the building really and land it sets on.

You are combining farming.... and mining.  The two just do not really fit together.  The are completely different in most ways.
3683  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 09, 2015, 09:15:54 PM
Actually a bit dissappointed to see 3.3TH vs 3.5.   We already know that higher voltage = higher Hash rate for this box but do you think it's the super low temperature that is making your box not hit the stated 3.5TH?  I recall the vendor saying this Avalon performing better at 60C and right now it's running in the low 30s.  Tom from Oregon miners say he have 2 x 750W Dell PSU available for sale.  You should get them, according to him it's luck of the draw as some of the box required no change in setting and can get 3.8TH without any setting changes, just need to use the Dell PSUs.

Some have mentioned temperature.  My mining area is getting winter air.  My big exhust even has stopped running due to temps being so lot it just is not needed.  So it very well could be a factor.

Also the one PSU I think is a factor aswell notice one has 12 input and other 11.8.  After the week stability test I plan on checking both PSU's with my psu tester and see what it see's.

The 2 750 from all that have been said sounds like if you run with those you will get higher speed then my EVGA ATX's.  But I'm enjoying very efficient speed right now with these PSU's so I'm fine not put off to much.  The margins of running this are just very nice right now with high btc value.  I still have my 4.1 (and other miners) but I really have enjoyed the Avalon 6.
3684  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [OPEN] Official FutureBit MoonLander USB Scrypt Stick Order Thread on: December 09, 2015, 08:42:48 PM
Thought I should post in here as I have been enjoying playing with the miner.   This miner is a lot of fun, if your from the GPU day's it will bring back a lot of memories with being able to mine scrypt.  It's amazing what they can do with one asic chip.  I had not mined scrypt for a while since I sold my A2 but this device allows me to mine a little and have fun.

Here are some pictures of prototype:

For slideshow and higher resolution pictures: http://s100.photobucket.com/user/notlist3d/slideshow/moonlander?sort=3

So the device does exist, and does work. I have not went into numbers yet as I am using a backup hub on my raspberry pi, which does not have as much electricity.  I need to get another hub to show this miner justice.
3685  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED][SIDEHACK STICK]Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: December 09, 2015, 07:50:11 PM
Amazon eats 10% off the top; Ebay eats 10% off the top; PayPal eats 3% and Coinbase eats 1%. eBay sales would have about a 13% markup from what I'd sell directly. I'll worry about 10% and 13% but not 3% or 1% (unless it's a seriously big sale) so I just eat the transaction fees on direct sales.

I sold a few of my batch 1's on ebay, to be able to buy more when batch 2 opened up.  They really do eat into profit quite a bit by time you add up ebay and paypal fee's.   Also shipping to on 1 stick in most cases.

I will say i have not listed any for quite a while just was a pain.  So many want them for the 25 dollars.  I had a lot of offers where  I would lose money, not many where I made money.

bitminerjoe on Amazon is Crazyguy here in bitcointalk. If you want to buy from him directly go to https://asicpuppy.com .
I ordered my R1 from Crazyguy with his custom firmware loaded, he's a stand-up guy and I would recommend buying from him any day of the week (but use his site, not Amazon).

On R1 I got mine from crazyguy aswell getting it with custom firmware I highly suggest

And I don't see to many saying it but congratulations on selling so many sticks Sidehack.  It's great to see the community enjoyed this product, as it really is a fun product to play with and use.
3686  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any way to make IBM Bladecenter H 2880W fans quieter? on: December 09, 2015, 07:44:15 PM
Cheese and Rice, the EVGA 1600 is over $300! That's insanely expensive, considering one of my IBM Units power two S7's, and including the awesome Jabberwock breakout board and 20 PCIe cables per PSU, I bought them for about $260 before shipping and C20 cable, each.

Jabber, tell me more about how this fan mod works, and how to go about doing it.

Also, you said that the 2000W HP unit is quieter. If I use one of those, I'd likely have to use 1 per S7, so how much would one of those set me back overall?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help

It might be cheese and rice.  But the noise HUGE difference between the two.  If you want 10 PCIe cables it comes at a very high premium at ATX PSU's.  It just is how it is.  Think about it how many regular computers do you know using 10 PCIe?  That is reason so few ATX even exist for it.

So you can stick with your current PSU's which is not a bad option.  But you will have loud PSU's that is just how it is.
3687  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 09, 2015, 07:40:34 PM
NL3D - That's the combined Hashrate of 2 Avalon 6 right?  That's about 3.3TH each, which is a bit low right?

P.S  I can just imagine how cold that room these Avalons are in.  The temperature reported is so low.  haha

Yes it is 2 Avalon 6's after about 4 day's.  As you can see one EVGA is better then other at staying at 12 volt's, which does effect the hashrate.

And mining area luckily is lucky winter air has started so much cooler then summer. I still have a lot of my summer cooling gear on, so they all get a very cool area to mine in.  It is overkill at this time of year.
3688  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Solo mining question on: December 09, 2015, 07:38:01 PM
Everything that I have read recently has pointed me to the fact that solo mining is not profitable. I have a unique situation where my electricity is included and I pay nothing for it. It does not matter how much I do or do not use. Would it still be profitable or would I still be unable to reach ROI on one or two ASIC miners?

I was just thinking before, if you purchase two ASIC miners: both the same and at the same value. If you connect one to a pool such as antpool and one to your own pool (which can be generated from an "always on" computer that you can leave running with bitcoin core running on it and create your own pool of it! See Youtube and Google for information on how to do this) . The always-on computer can be something as rubbish at CPU as a Raspberry Pi for around £30, and if you have a spare hard drive that you could use, then this will sped up the raspberry pi and mean it is less likely to have a corrupt micro SD and wake you up beecause the miner makes rediculous noises as it fails (bitmain's products are said to make loud beeping noises when the connection goes down to them!

Honestly I would use solo ckpool instead - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.0 .  It is a already set up solo pool that has been tested and proven to work.  Also you pay a very small percent and no need of extra gear.

I would use it as stability is something you can count on. It's as easy as pointing miner there so very easy.
3689  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to collect BTC ?? on: December 09, 2015, 06:32:52 PM
means joining freelancer ??
How to join the signature campaign? I've tried but have not received a reply, whether newbie very difficult to join the signature campaign ??
You have to work, Real working that pays in bitcoin. But you must have ability to complete the project. For example here : http://xbtfreelancer.com/

You need to grow your activity before joining signature campaign. At least full member. Mostly newbie join signature campaign is just spamming post.

Also your earning from signature campaign if you are still newbie is very small.
Maybe I should wait until it becomes a full member in order to register a signature campaign in order to get decent results
I think I have to be patient and work hard

It's not a bad idea at all.  Honeslty you don't lose much coin as full member is where pay really takes a bump.

So if you want to use time now to learn.  That is not a bad idea as it's better now then later.   Some get into them too quick and results are not so great.
3690  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Lost Electrum Wallet. Please Help on: December 09, 2015, 06:31:29 PM
Hello
I had a wallet with bitcoin on a computer.
I have a hard drive Time Machine back up of that computer.
I do not know how to retrieve the bitcoins.
I do not have a computer to restore...only the back up.
Can I retrieve my bitcoins from it?
Thank you

can you be more clear what is the problem ? if you have got backup of that wallet then you can retrive it but you will be needing the seed key or wallet.dat file. electrum wallet which you are using if you are using windows one then when you installed it would have created a seed key, which is very important to retrive your all wallet address and the bitcoins.

I would agree on being moe clear..  What do you have backup of (and do not post it just making sure no new user mistakes).   If you have backup of everything... I would think it is there.

But none of us know what is backed up and what is not.  Also you really should find a computer to restore it to if there is a sizeable amount. If its small and you don't care.. then fine leave it.  But if you wait to long seem like that backup will disappear.
3691  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary one day? on: December 09, 2015, 06:27:00 PM
A thanks to everyone who congratulated me.  Everyone has been very nice about hitting it.

Good luck to all those still left waiting.  The randomness really does make this hard to pick out when it ill happen.  They did a great job on being random.
3692  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Very interested in mining, but looks difficult to get into. Help requested! :) on: December 09, 2015, 06:19:37 PM
Would I not be better off using my GPU for the mining?

No chances are you will lose money on CPU/GPU mining.  Look into asics chances are you need one if you  want to mine.

Sadly the day's of CPU/GPU are dead for most.  Just to expensive and low rewards at this point.
3693  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any way to make IBM Bladecenter H 2880W fans quieter? on: December 09, 2015, 06:17:14 PM
Hi all,

I just hooked up three different IBM Bladecenter H 2880W PSU's to my brand new S7's, and boy the fans on these PSU's are incredibly loud! These PSU's have a high pitched sorta whistle sound, almost kinda like the whistle you hear on a turbo. These PSU's have a pitch more noticeable than the actual miners in the room.

My question is, is there any way to make these fans quieter at all? Or a replacement for the stock fans that are quieter? Otherwise, do I have any other options? I ideally wanted to run platinum PSU's to these miners, so if there is no solution, is there a recommended replacement that you guys suggest?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Server PSU's are not known for being quiet.  I doubt you are able to make it what you consider "quiet".   If going for less noise I traditionally would send someone twords ATX vs server psu.   I don't know that I have seen much as far as making them quiet.  If someone can think of one please post, I could not find quickly.

I think they are just loud PSU's at end of day. They are great for their price and amount of power, not for quietness.

But the problem with this is the 10 PCIE cables the S7 want's.   That get's most ATX psu's where they are not to good for the job.
3694  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 09, 2015, 06:10:36 PM
Still running 1 week stability test.  So far about 4 day's and it keeps working which is good.  It does seem one of my PSU's is a little better then other at staying at 12 volts.

3695  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: can i make a profit with 50 ghs asic and no electricity bill? on: December 09, 2015, 06:04:03 PM
what is your recommended asic for a new miner? around $60 - $65 if possible

Phils idea of S1 is not bad depending on price you get it at.  Honestly your price range makes it tough.

Have you heard of "lotto" mining or solo mining with little gear?  Most of the miners in your price range will fall into this category.
3696  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Total newbie post on: December 09, 2015, 06:02:34 PM
Is that calculator taking electric cost into account?

Otherwise, the primary catch is the rate of difficulty increase.

It is hopefully he enters his own in there.  I think it's default is 10 cents.  But your right OP should change all settings custom to him.

As far as calculators go it's one of the best long term.  Assuming your difficulty is close.  But it can show what effects long term changes can have very well.

3698  Economy / Speculation / Re: Foolproof plan: Sell above 400$, rebuy on holidays on: December 09, 2015, 05:59:01 PM
Historically, bitcoin's price goes down during Christmas celebratory season or after. The holiday is followed by new year's eve and Chinese new year on Feb 8 and celebrations. Play it safe, sell some of your coins now only to re-buy as the price goes down.

it's not full proof though.  Look at price right now 411.97 on coinbase.  We are up quite a bit.  I don't know that we will drop a lot for events above.

Part of reason is the difficulty level.  Look at it there has been a huge jump in difficulty compared to normal level.  I don't see it dropping quick with miners getting less and less.   So I think this year will be a little different.
3699  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Total newbie post on: December 09, 2015, 07:58:24 AM
i think you can come victoirious now that the price is increasing quickly, faster than the diff can ever dream about

but you need to sell it at some point to have your roi, because by how the thing are going you need more than 6 months to break even

If you buy with BTC and have more BTC after a miner I would say you can mine and ROI without selling.  There are many inducing myself that will have long term holdings in it.

I do sell to pay for electricity, unless a few I though was to dang low and did not cash in any BTC.  But my goal is always to have more BTC.  I measure my ROI on BTC not USD.
3700  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: can i make a profit with 50 ghs asic and no electricity bill? on: December 09, 2015, 07:36:12 AM
Make sure your read about zombie's on U3.  Unless you have a plan in advance to deal with it your going to hate the U3.  It's just a truth zombie's without automation to fix kills them being much fun.   And you will not ROI on a U3 just math does not add, you can run it yourself: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator  Make sure to have difficulty changes with it.

Phils idea of S1 is not a bad idea if you get a good deal. But again run ROI math.  Even with free electricity do a ROI to make sure you will get what you paid for miner back with difficulty changes.  U3 I can promise you will not get it back.

walk me through to use the calculator please, i new at this

Each period bitcoin goes up in difficulty.  These last few weeks have been high.. but btc went up to.  But you need to read about difficulty.

With the changing difficulty it is what keeps U3 from making money, it's a loss.  Honestly you have to look into bigger miners to possibly ROI.  The sticks and pod stuff are geared tword solo (lotto) users.
