3701  Economy / Collectibles / [Gauging Interest] Teak Slab - Bitcoin / Litecoin on: September 30, 2021, 10:02:24 PM
I have got some aged Teak offcuts which I have been storing for some unknown
future project and I have decided to make a move and create something of them.

          ----------

I did a test run last weekend at carving the Bitcoin symbol into a piece, profiled
the outside edge, applied some Gold Acrylic paint and gave it two coats of satin
varnish to finish, the result is from a quick enough job but I like the result.

          ----------

So I am gauging some interest in the concept of some carved Teak products with
very low quantities.

          ----------

The first plan is to make a set of two, Bitcoin and Litecoin, inlaid with Gold and Silver
Acrylic paint. Artwork below and some some sample images. I'm planning 5 sets,
They will be numbered, A1/2 & A2/2, B..., C..., D..., E... I still have to figure out how I will do that though.

Size of each: 9.4cm x 6.2cm x 1.8cm approximately [easy to post]

This is the initial sample to convert what I had in my head to something physical

These are the 2 slabs ready for carving

and this is the artwork

On a slightly larger scale I have plans to make something from 4 slabs,
15.2cm x 8.8cm x 2cm approx. but i am undecided on the artwork.

I will potentially start off with the smaller set first.

3702  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-29] Swiss markets watchdog approves first crypto assets fund on: September 30, 2021, 08:11:07 PM
Kind of interesting.
Its another avenue for traditional investors to get exposure to crypto markets.

Time will prove that more and more countries will allow various variations of this which
will increase the market cap at least of crypto.

Its also interesting how its only applicable to "qualified investors". Anyone just cannot
walk into a broker or fund provider with €100 of CHF equivalent, luckily the average
joe/jane doesnt need to be "qualified" to have and trade crypto.
3703  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: September 30, 2021, 01:01:31 PM
Panthers

Ah F it anyway, a key player and "dealt a major blow". I would like to think that
the team doesnt revolve around 1 or 2 key players other than the captain and
that WE have a quality replacement.

I wonder how much the odds will shift after this announcement, if at all?

Currently its Panthers 1.64 - 2.24 Rabbitohs
3704  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Bitcoin ETFs really important? on: September 30, 2021, 10:55:55 AM
Not that important. Maybe important to some. But, again, not that important.

Anyway, I happened to have come across a series of tweets which started with John Carvalho tweeting, Good morning, nobody needs a Bitcoin ETF. There were nice arguments right there and so I might as well share it here also.

https://i.imgur.com/YZXLvoX.png
https://twitter.com/BitcoinErrorLog/status/1440996289655758853

To a certain extent, traditional products out of Bitcoin could be construed as betrayal of Bitcoin itself. Furthermore, Bitcoin does not need custodians.

The argument is pretty much "why need etfs when you can buy real bitcoin"; which makes sense, but it's totally forgetting the fact that there are a lot of old folks that are simply incapable of learning the ropes of owning "real" bitcoin. The easy solution for them would be to hold bitcoin on a reputable exchange, but that ain't much better. I'd say an ETF is better in that case.

There are definitely people of the older generation who want part of the Bitcoin
action but dont or feel they dont have the means to take full custody of them.
People used to traditional investing will be used to traditional avenues
and tools like ETF's so there has to be an appetite for a Bitcoin ETF which as
posted above should increase Bitcoins exposure to a different audience,
one which has been standing on the sidelines ready to play.

Anyone betting on the Sofia tournament?

I'm following Sinner who is defending champion from last year. Hes is playing
Gerasimov tomorrow and is heavy favourite. There are a lot of well known players
competing.
As seeded as well as the defending champion makes him a huge favorite here, and he has a great chance of winning again this year.
Today's match that I think is interesting to follow and choose as a bet is I. Ivashka vs. G. Monfils and I choose over 20.5.

Ivashka is slight favourite I see I have Millman to beat Marchenko and De Minaur
seeded 3 to beat Giron as well as Sinner of course.

There are a lot of matches which are close affairs, another interesting one is Duckworth
who has been fairly decent this season playing Paire who is as we know unpredictable.

3707  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't speculation and volatility a problem for Bitcoin? on: September 29, 2021, 05:38:22 PM
I'm sure the traders who can react to the markets wouldnt necessarily think
the volatility is a problem.

If we dont react at all to the volatility and "zoom out" its not a problem.

The volatility is a result of the decentralisation of Bitcoin, the centralised
traditional markets go into panic if they move more than 2 or 3%.

Experienced Bitcoiners have strong hands and nerves of wrought Iron.
3708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Companies Use Symbols Similar to That of Bitcoin? on: September 28, 2021, 08:43:59 PM
Just watching Tennis this evening, The San Diego ATP competition and at first glance
I thought I saw a Bitcoin Symbol......but not.

Badiee Developments

I knew this thread existed and had a bit of a job finding it. Has anyone found some other
similar designs lately?
3709  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: September 28, 2021, 08:03:25 PM
With success comes more pressure, pressures from all sides, internally in her team
and personal life and externally, a lot depends on how she is able to deal with it.
She will also have to decipher who has her interests prioritised and who has their
own interests in mind.
At the next competition when things start going against her thats when her fortitude will
come into play. Hopefully she has it and can cope and progress.

I support her decision of changing the coach. Sometimes one has to make some hard decisions in order to succeed. What she has done will only benefit her in the longer run. But maybe she could have shown a bit of love to her previous coach, like maybe keep him for some more time along with the new experienced coach. But keeping in mind that as she has won a tournament, the fans expect more from her which is normal, and to tackle that bringing in a new and experienced coach is normal in my opinion which will help her get better.

But it doesnt make any sense to change a coach after that same coach helps you to
win a GS title. If it aint broke dont fix it! A new coach can be a big change, new
routines, new game plays etc. and if they dont work straight away pressure
starts mounting.

News from a few days ago is that Halep has split (again) from her coach, this makes sense,
she is abusive to her coach/team and has gone off the boil in the last few years since she
won her last GS in 2019. It wasnt working so things need to change.

We could see a link up between Darren Cahill and Emma Raducanu?
3710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin an asset or a currency? on: September 28, 2021, 12:24:58 PM
Your country:
In my opinion you can't use bitcoin as a currency in a country where it is not legalized or a country where bitcoin is banned. Some countries has restricted ezchnagers from carrying out their business within the region so in such places you can't use your coin for commercial purpose you it will only serve as an asset
But that's just stupid. Bitcoin was made to transcend pretty much everything that limits you when you use fiat, being somewhere where crypto is restricted isn't really an issue, since it's Bitcoin, you're not supposed to mind the country you're in. The mediums such as P2P exchanges don't really give a damn, you can access them and trade with crypto even if it isn't legalized in your country. It's you limiting yourself if you let such factors actually stop you from using Bitcoin.

Correct, as others have pointed out, the owner decides what his or her Bitcoin is,
It can be stored until an opportune time when the owner decides what he/she wants
to do, trade, convert, sell, spend or exchange.

Tell El Salvador for example that Bitcoin is not currency
Tell Michael Saylor that his 91,579 Bitcoin are not an asset

3711  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase to Allow US Users to Deposit Paychecks Directly in Crypto. on: September 28, 2021, 06:43:24 AM
Just what I want to do, direct deposit my paycheck into a company known for horrible customer service.

It's really not that much more work to put my check into a bank and then ACH it to coinbase.

It's not so much about what you (or I) want to do. The average Coinbase user is not as knowledgeable or as concerned about privacy as the average user on this forum.

I think it's good news, just like when Paypal announced it would offer Bitcoin to its customers. Neither you nor I would buy it through paypal custodial service, but it popularizes Bitcoin and helps normalization and mass adoption (another thing is that Paypal later announced that it would allow withdraw Bitcoin but that was later).

As for depositing (even part) of the paycheck in Coinbase, this kind of thing increases turnover. It's a known fact that people spend to the extent you make things easy for them. One of the reasons for Amazon's success is that people spend with a click, they can even fund with a click.

So, yes, it's not ideal, but it's good news.

I'm with Poker Player, I think its good news. Its an extra avenue for people to get
exposed to crypto. OK using an exchange for anything other than...exchanging
is risky but hopefully a portion on the people who avail of this service will know
what the right thing to do with their paycheck is.

Exchange part or all to Bitcoin and transfer to secure wallet and transfer the
remaining FIAT to wherever.

It isnt that difficult to do the reverse either but I suppose Coinbase is opening a door
for whoever wants to walk through.
3712  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: new to bitcoin, don't know how to use on: September 27, 2021, 10:37:34 PM
It looks like the OP wants to simply receive Bitcoin to turn into Cash. The simplest way
to do this is to register on an exchange and transfer the Bitcoin to FIAT. This will mean
completing KYC or AML which can result in taxes to be paid, but no need to own a
wallet because a Bitcoin address can be generated on the online exchange account.

Owning a wallet hardware or otherwise is a little more involved. While you are
taking ownership of the Bitcoin contained within you will also have to consider
storage of the private keys and password to the wallet in case of an unforseen
event which renders it unuseable or it gets lost.
3713  Other / Archival / Re: Historical Impact of China's Crypto Bans on Bitcoin Price on: September 27, 2021, 08:00:11 PM
China's crypto bans are bad in a few hours, few days but weeks later, price moved up more. Not bad at all.

snip

It proves a few things, we really need to zoom out after these "big" news events and
it proves that Bitcoin is bigger than any country. If China wants to close the door in
Bitcoins face the effects on the market long term is nothing.

Also with the recent going-on's in China it is dangerous to use high leverage trades,
the markets can move quickly resulting in many liquidations.

Update on the Laver Cup, if anyone is watching?

Team Europe lead Team World by 11 - 1. The only point TW have scored was through
we all know team Europe were favorites as usual, but they destroyed team world, my only bet on this tournament was on Auger Aliassime, and I lost it, Europe always had very good players and most of them are better than rest of the world, socks to say that but it's the truth.

Final score was 14-1, as Zverev/Rublev beat Opelka/Shapovalov of Canada 6-2, 6-7 (4), 10-3 doubles.

It was not really a shocker, I agree, they have been dominating the Laver Cup in the last four years. They have the top players in the world. The best the World can offer is Auger-Aliassime, 11th seed, is the highest-ranked member of the roster. So it's easy to see as to who are going to win this Cup.

17 - 1 to team Europe doesnt suggest how closer some of the matches were, Team World
could have won some more matches from the first to 10 tie break format after 2 sets format
but yes of course team Europe have for the last number of years had the highest ranked players.

My opinion on the Raducanu issue is that other people with infleuence over her made
the decision for her to split with her coach. This was not her own choice.

As I said directly after her win, she has a lot more now to consider than just training and
playing. She has to navigate the pressures of being the U.K's number 1 and the politics
and infleuences from the people around her. Its a lot of pressure for a teenager.

As we all know Tennis is as much about the psychology as it is about the talent.
3716  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: September 26, 2021, 08:12:04 PM
The championship is over really, NZ win and back in #1 spot again, its really about 2nd
spot now for the last round.

South Africa have closest to beating New Zealand in this competition yesterday by narrowly
losing by 17 - 19 so they have a chance to beat them next week but I wouldnt be putting Satoshi's
on it TBH.

Argentina will be really trying to win their last match purely to get points on the board but Australia
will not want to let 2nd spot slip away to SA.
3717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 【I am in China】About China 2021/09/24 FUD on: September 26, 2021, 06:04:44 PM
Yea this is pretty real, China is closing the door and thats great. As soon as the fudsters
run out of fuel on this the better. And while its a pity for the citizens of China its good
to have closure on this, there wont be the constant speculation of "will they ban crypto?"

Again its a pity for the citizens in general in China there surely will be work arounds or
cheats for some im sure but they will be a minority.
3718  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Charity Auction Ideas ? on: September 26, 2021, 04:43:28 PM
Wow thank you guys! I will keep everyone posted. Would like to hear a few more ideas.  I think I'm leaning on running an auction for a couple different causes. Again, cheers!

Mental Health is a big problem and one which is very much coming to the fore lately.
Anyone familiar with the Tennis player Naomi Osaka recently brought it to the public's
attention that she suffered from mental illness. Anyone can suffer from it, anyone
can become affected by it so I think this is a very good cause.

Homelessness is indeed linked to mental illness and is very sad situation. There is
another charity which hands out food to homless people from the proceeds of Crypto

Crypto for the homeless - 7/9/21 - handed out a ton of pizza - need some help

Anyway, yes I wuld be in a position to donate something for the cause and will potentially
be bidding on other items.

I will have a look and see what I can donate . . .

Update on the Laver Cup, if anyone is watching?

Team Europe lead Team World by 11 - 1. The only point TW have scored was through
Isner / Shapovalov v Zverev / Berrettini, other than that TE have wone all matches.

Live ATM is Rublev / Zverev v Opelka / Shapovalov

3 final matches to follow are:

Zverev v Felix AA
Medvedev v Swartzman
Tsitsipas v Isnr

I have made a few Satoshi's on this tournament based on TE's dominance.
3720  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: September 26, 2021, 04:24:33 PM
Union

I havent been paying any attention to the French Top14, Toulon are a good team
as are Perpignon. Hmm I must check out the match ups for next weekend there.

In the United Championship Lenister, Munster and Ulster won their matches. Leinster
was kind of expected, In a match which I thought was going to be close is was a
total mismatch, final score 31 - 3. I suspect that a lot of key players for the SA
sides are engaged in the Rugby Championship down under.

And speaking of the RC I am surprised with South Africa and Australia really that
there is such a difference between them and NZ. And for Argentina to fail to score
any points is remarkable.

League

I think I'll do the same with The Panthers, a second bet on them beating The Rabbitohs...
