and lastly the .61 amp setting does give hw  errors but not to many.

i may tweak it to .62 or .63 amps looking for a little less on hw's
37002  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The combined sidehack-novak usb stick review thread. AKA GekkoScience BM1384 on: June 15, 2015, 08:09:21 PM
Maybe after the USB meter, the next thing to get is a thermal camera module? Wink  ( FLIR reacted to the SEEK by dropping their prices a fair bit.. lower resolution but generally higher quality. )

yeah but the oven temp meter is pretty good. cost = $0

I have also decided to  bump amps to 0.61-0.62   vs 0.6

reason is at 0.6 HW is 2%  at 0.61-0.62 HW is under 1%

so my stick seems very happy at freq 175 and 0.61-0.62 amps  still is that nice 0.31 watt per gh number.
What is the power draw when you figure in the host PC?

read the thread all answers are here.  Does not that seem fair to write.

here is break down

total of   36 watts for   the  entire setup  I don't count the monitor as it is turned off 23 of 24 hours

----------------------------watts

1)pc --------------------23-25
2)usb hub -------------  4-5
3)fan -------------------   1
4)usb meter -----------   1

5)1  stick --------------  3

The pc runs a full node and uses 23 watts idle 25 watts on a node

A rasp pi would do 10 watts idle and no node. So since I choose a real pc my penalty is 13-15 watts over a rasp pi, cubie, bugle bone etc

I am just waiting for a chance to pop in more sticks to see practical limits for sticks  + boards.

37003  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need Opinions - Best SHA256 ASIC for mining in my office - Quiet yet profitable on: June 15, 2015, 07:51:39 PM
I need something fairly quiet, yet profitable to mine w/ power costs of $.09 - $.1/kwh. My office is a suite in a building that is kept very cool (as we have dentists w/ their required machinery, etc.), so heat isn't too much of an issue. My electric is a write-off, so I want a way to have a steady income of BTC whilst maintaining decent profitability (doesn't have to be the latest and greatest).

Maybe Scrypt ASICs are a possibility, but my focus at this moment is SHA256.

Thanks for your help/opinions!

Antminer S5 is probably the way to go. If you can buy a used one at around $350 and have cheap electricity, it's not too bad. You'll need to underclock it and put in a quieter fan though.

it will be too noisy .

buy this fan:

http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Cooler-Computer-Cooling-FHP-141/dp/B00A460TK6/ref=sr_1_1?

buy a used s-3

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antminer-S3-/301661789143?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item463c719bd7

this psu  but some one may find better for you.
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-Series-Watt-CX600/dp/B0092ML0OC/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

My cost for you is under 200 and you will most likely lose money. due to your cost of power.

At the op no gear for sale will profit for your kwatt cost. (I am pretty sure not certain this is true.)

Since you are going to lose money in most cases buy a used antminer s-3  for 85 usd buy a silverstone 141 mm fan for 16 bucks

get a small quiet psu .  and then run the s-3 in balance.

I would then run the s-3 in balance I will show  you what I mean.
see this post

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.msg11617555#msg11617555

a screen shot that shows how the s-3 splits hash to 3 spots 140gh each 2 earn a little money 1 could win a block.

this will run quiet use under 400 watts and cost under 200 usd .  most likely you will lose money

37004  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The combined sidehack-novak usb stick review thread. AKA GekkoScience BM1384 on: June 15, 2015, 05:10:30 PM
yeah but the oven temp meter is pretty good. cost = $0
A very reasonable argument Wink  If it piques your interest anyway, let me know Smiley

of course it does and I want one. but so many parts with so much gear in house  and a very patient wife .

I don't want to add any straws at the moment.

Today the usb meter came an intel cpu came. some fan grills are due. some more parts tomorrow.

I have to build a pc in the next 2 days.

z97 asrock itx mobo
i5 4570t cpu
2 8gb sticks of ram
1 250gb msata
fsp plat 450watt psu
a silent zalman cpu cooler

s much as I would like the meter no more gear for a week or two. (or not and I will say fuck it and ask you for a link to buy the meter)
37005  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New mining room - need input for intake - exhaust setup on: June 15, 2015, 05:02:24 PM

I would use plywood same size as the opening  say 24 by 24

I would cut a hole for exhaust  and mount an exhaust fan only in the window.

I would open the inside door and allow in air that way.
37006  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The combined sidehack-novak usb stick review thread. AKA GekkoScience BM1384 on: June 15, 2015, 04:41:01 PM

so was the invalid ones due to power being to low in that btw very neat seeing these numbers from a usb drive .... next question how is the heat on the heatsink ?

with the fan blowing on it no worries.  I think I will turn the fan off for an hour. I don't have an infrared gun but I have a temp for food which if placed on the heatsink should give a good number.

27c with fan turned on

40c with fan turned off

went from 27 to 32 c with fan turned off

moved up to 38c

it is hard to read but 39.6c and I played with lowest amp setting here at 0.57 amps = constant hw's

fan drops it down fast to 28c this is in a 25c room temp   notice amps at 0.61 this is much better for HW's

lastly look at HW they are at 698

and the new usb stick meter came to me today photos posted

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1086011.msg11624387#msg11624387

it looks like the stick I have can do freq 175 at 9.5 gh and 2.94 watts at worst that is 0.3094 watts a gh.

maybe does 9.65 gh  which is 2.94/9.65 = 0.3046 watts a gh

I am using poolside gh and cgminer gh

so the gh varies from 9.50 to 9.65  watts needed for that is 2.94 which is amazing

37009  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The combined sidehack-novak usb stick review thread. AKA GekkoScience BM1384 on: June 15, 2015, 03:41:45 PM
now I had a good  meter for 1 stick  so I dialed back power  the pot is  now  in this position

+   in stead of ⅛ clock wise     the readings dropped from .66 amp to .6 amp

 so .66 amp x 4.91 v =  3.24 watts  and 9.5 gh

now .6 amp x 4.91 volt = 2.94 watts and 9.5gh hash

or 3.24/9.5 = .341 watts a gh

2.94/9.5 = .309 watts a gh

.309 watts a gh at freq 175 is really good and most likely accurate within 5%

37010  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The combined sidehack-novak usb stick review thread. AKA GekkoScience BM1384 on: June 15, 2015, 03:33:18 PM

close up

and we are pullin 9.5 gh or so

First, sorry for your loss  Undecided

I don't want to lean on y'all for footing any of that bill, but the way things have been going, I'd probably get lynched if I didn't at least alert folks to the opportunity.
If it's taken as just donations or if it's offset to the cost of the final product(s), that shouldn't be a problem.  Pre-orders in general suck, but traditionally these are for highly theoretical products or (in the past) based on supplies that are on shaky grounds.  Neither should apply here.  You know I'm in for several of the sticks anyway.

I pm'd a pledge for support.

I would be looking to buy sticks and 18 chip boards down the road. I don't mind leaving some funds in sidehack's hands.
37012  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 15, 2015, 02:35:52 PM
So, update.

I just got final prices from Bitmain on chips. We're organizing a two-part order, 1200 chips for me and 800 for the guy in Germany. With 1200 chips I can use 1000 as intended earlier for Compacs and Amitas (probably 600 and 200, respectively) and have 200 chips left which will allow me to do a full set of 4 of both 18-chip (half S1) and 30-chip (Prisma) boards for testing.

The portion I'll need to put up for chips and shipping is about 16.6BTC using current values. I'll be shifting funds into the 1BURGER address for now. Being as I'll be all over three states until Thursday I don't expect to take care of final business and submit payment until the end of the week. I don't want to lean on y'all for footing any of that bill, but the way things have been going, I'd probably get lynched if I didn't at least alert folks to the opportunity.

pm sent.

I think block 360874 was the starting point for this adjustment
360864 was the first block

my bad you are correct.
37014  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 15, 2015, 05:03:15 AM
Ah, Hackaday - the internet's premiere source of information for all things Arduino and Internet of Things.

Also the hack on that page only described how to change power limits on one model of Pi, not address older versions with hardware limits and not how to keep any of it from catching on fire due to overdrawing. If you wired power to the header instead of the mini jack you might get away with it. Also the problem of port spacing allowing only one stick still stands.

But yeah. For sticks, just get a not-crappy hub. Even a pretty crappy hub can be made to work well (as evidenced by my $9 11-port powering 5 sticks and a Pi).

Yeah that link will get you to melt the power input port or wire.

Frankly I love the rasp pi but it has its limits ie use a powered hub.

My guess is  7 -10  sticks will run on the older pi model b with 0 issues.

The upper stick limit will be found on all rasp pi's.

hey if you have a good hub .

the hub will power the pi and run sticks.  I am pretty sure this hub will power a rasp pi  and plug into the same rasp pi allowing up to 7-10 sticks .

 I also think
not so sure this would run the rasp pi and 40 plus sticks.
37015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Looks like my BTC wallet was hacked on: June 15, 2015, 02:31:11 AM
The coins eventually landed up here https://blockchain.info/address/1FsVcdeHbpvUVT3gjeuVR2ZSDnpcsJMsLL
If you Google for the address, you will get several links. It seems to be an exchange address.

Have you figured out the source of the hack? Was is definitely the forum software?

How what use that would be? If he ran the coins through a exchange, it becomes as difficult as trying to guess coins after being ran by a mixer.. it's an headache trying to figure out who owns what anymore.
I would say OP downloaded some dodgy wallet from some altcoin.

yeah best way to keep a wallet safe is dedicate a pc to the blockchain and nothing else.

I use an old mobo/cpu from gpu mining back in 2012 .  I run my wallet on that and nothing else.
37016  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New mining room - need input for intake - exhaust setup on: June 15, 2015, 01:23:15 AM
you need to tell us more about the window.  does it slide left right ,

does it open up down?

can you do a little on left and right?

can you do a little on top and bottom?

If not you have problems. fixing will be tough
37017  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The combined sidehack-novak usb stick review thread. AKA GekkoScience BM1384 on: June 14, 2015, 11:02:28 PM
While I find the discussion of running a "full node" fascinating, can I ask what the motivation is? My simplistic view is that it's kinda like running Seti@Home in terms of "value", however you define value.

I don't want to hijack this thread from it's intended purpose, but thought I would ask. Feel free to delete this post if you wish.

well I knew I had enough parts to rebuild 2 pc's both with low watt intel t cpu's

so if you are building a 'free' pc that idles at 23 watts and runs a node at 25 watts

vs a rasp pi the uses 10 watts.

 cost me 0 either way

you have to ask yourself  for 15 watts  or 11 kwatts a month extra or 2 bucks a month 24 a year .

what is better to run sidehack's gear.

I would be willing to say the pc build will allow me 20-25 sticks using the 2 stud hubs I own.

I would be willing to say the pc build will allow me 8 to 10  18 chip boards.

I think the rasp pi won't do that.   So the node  is really a  2-3 watt gift to bitcoin on my part.

I am not sure how many sticks and or boards will come to me  as a user and as a kit seller.

We need to see how it unfolds.

But picture a  small pc built to run cgminer / bitcoin node doing 25 sticks + 10 boards.

vs a rasp pi bogging down at 10 sticks and  or 4 boards .

Remember this is All conjecture since no one has run  more then 5 sticks on  1 hub.

So no one knows if that is an issue for rasp pi's or cubies or beagle bones or is that bugle bones.

So my 'free' pc build  may drop the node  if I determine the node lowers my sticks and or boards hashing.

This is the fun part of the gear testing limits figuring what's a good setup etc.

Time will tell.

37018  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee anonymous solo bitcoin mining! 67 blocks solved! on: June 14, 2015, 06:37:22 PM
I've a spare bitcoin to play with, can i mine this pool via betarigs? I don't own any miners personally Smiley

this is via nicehash

http://solo.ckpool.org/users/114J9nTVYHq5ZXA5hKorTLpyF6pxZgL6pf

betarigs also works as does westhash

this is an s-3 in balance so ⅓ goes to here and ⅔ goes to btcguild

http://solo.ckpool.org/users/1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje

do you get a lot of rejects from pool 2 and 3 when you put your s3 on balance?

no  I have it set at freq 206 and I get a total of 420gh pretty much between the 3

37019  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 14, 2015, 05:00:00 PM
Just as an update, I probably won't have any news this entire week. I've got four proto Compacs in the wild and folks are starting to talk about them in Phil's review thread, but that's going to be it for a while. I got word on Friday that my cousin died, so between the funeral, other family stuff and other business runs I'll be out of town for all but two of the next seven days and those two days will probably be spent on power supply tasks. So I probably won't even look at miners again until the Compac and 18-board PCBs get here.

Family First man.  I am sorry for your loss.  I will continue to post in the review thread.

Maybe we finally go over 50 bill this time.

The  picks start in another   250    blocks or so.

300 made --- 1716 left to be exact

we are at

48 made ----- 1958 left

I think block 360874 was the starting point for this adjustment

we are at block 360922

we made 48 blocks in 9 hours 22 minutes should make 6 x 9 = 54 + 2 = 56 blocks

So we are off slowly maybe - 8 on the first day.

Would be funny if we drop -3 to -5 % this time and keep under the 50 bill mark.
