If you only send ETH and there is no token involved in the transaction, the used gas would be 21,000.
Remember that we are talking about gas limits and not actually used gas.
You can always set the gas limit yourself.
The requirement for the gas limit is that it must be equal or bigger than the gas needed to be used for a transaction. Otherwise, the transaction would be failed.
So, when a transaction needs 21,000 units of gas, you can set the gas limit to 21,000.
If you set the gas limit to 25,000 or any other amount bigger than 21,000, the extra gas will return to your wallet.

Take a look at this transaction which I selected randomly from etherscan.
The gas limit has set to 21,000 and 100% of it has been used for the transaction.
3742  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GOLD - First 100% Liquid Stablecoin Backed by Gold on: October 27, 2020, 01:46:30 AM
The simplest transaction on ETH network is between two wallets and the gas limit for such transactions is 25000 gwei.
If you only send ETH and there is no token involved in the transaction, the used gas would be 21,000.
Also note that, gwei isn't unit of gas limit. gwei is used for gas price.

1 gwei= 0.000000001 ETH
3743  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source unapplication - Vlad2Vlad on: October 26, 2020, 10:16:23 PM
Are you sure that Vlad is a merit source?
Vlad2Vlad has earned 334 merit so far. So he has earned 167 smerit.
According to BPIP, Vlad2Vlad has sent 3462 smerit.
The maximum number of airdropped smerit a user could get was 400. (See the following post made by theymos.)

So the most you could get is if you were a Legendary who maxed out your activity points in the last year, in which case you would get 1 * 0.4 * 1000 = 400 sMerit.

So, Vlad2Vlad is definitely a merit source.

As long as there is a house edge you will have 49% winning and 51% losing chance in a 1% house edge.........
If the house edge is 1%, in a game with 2x multiplier the winning probability would be 49.5% and losing probability would be 50.5%.

Probability of winning can be calculated as follows.

Probability of winning = (1- house edge)  / odds

He has probably got banned due to abusing the website.
There have been many similar cases.

Read the following post made by TheQuin.

The only reasons someone would not get the password change email is either it is getting filtered by their email provider (spam folder or not delivered) or the account has been banned for multi-accounting abuse.

I am playing roll number from a month but unable to get 1000 or somewhere around it. What's the possibility of gaining such a number?.
For earning 200 dollar in freebitco, you need to hit 10,000 not 1,000.
The chance to hit 10,000 and get 200 dollar is only 0.005%.

I see most people are here, and they already won $200, but I always end up with 15 satoshis.
No, it's very unlikely to hit 10,000. I am sure a very small percentage of freebitco's users had the chance to win 200 dollar in the faucet.
You are probably referring to this thread. Note that freebitco has more than 39 million users.

Below are probabilities of winning different prizes in the faucet.

0.002 dollar: 98.855%
0.02 dollar: 1%
0.2 dollar: 0.08%
2 dollar: 0.04%
20 dollar: 0.02%
200 dollar: 0.005%

Not only this. The good news is transaction fee on ETH network has been low in the last 2 weeks and today. There is problem with gas limit but it is good to see fee in Gwei began to fall back to normal area.
Gas limit is the maximum gas that can be spent for a transaction. Since all gas allocated to a transaction isn't necessarily spent, transaction fee doesn't actually depend on gas limit.
Transaction fee depends on used gas not gas limit.

Used gas in Ethereum is something like transaction size in bitcoin. It doesn't depend on how much network is congested or how fast you want your transaction to be.
Used gas only depends on size of the data included in the transaction.

Given 0.16% trade fee in Kraken, If you pay 10,000 euro to buy bitcoin, you will have 9,984 euro worth of bitcoin.

Let's say R = sell price / buy price

If you sell your bitcoin, you will get R*9,984*0.9984= 9,968*R.

In order to not lose money, 9,968*R[/b] must be bigger than 10,000.

9,968*R > 10,000 ---------> R >1.0032

So, you must place the sell order at least 0.32% higher than your buy price. Otherwise, you will lose money.

Note that, if you are not the maker and you are the taker, you must place the sell order at least 0.52% higher than buy price.
3749  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why did I only make 0p? Noobie excited but let down by pure confusion on: October 25, 2020, 08:30:35 PM
Kraken doesn't work freely. You have to pay fee for every trade you make.
According to fee-schedule on Kraken website, maker and taker pay 0.16% and 0.26% as trade fee respectively.
Assuming you were the maker in both trades, you should have payed about 0.08 euro as fee.

I didn't add InstaSwap because I couldn't test it. Most of the currencies there require a high amount as a minimum and I didn't have access to all my funds. If you've tested it before, let me know.
I haven't ever used InstaSwap and I will never use it. It would better to avoid this exchange.
According to their terms and conditions they may apply KYC to users at any time and ask for their documents.
The worst part is that, if someone deny to pass KYC, they will do whatever they want with the sent fund.

Quote
By accepting these Terms you agree to pass through the AML/KYC procedure, which may be applied to you or may be requested by Instaswap in some cases. In limited cases (such as to verify your identity in order to pass the AML/KYC procedure or police investigation), we reserve the right to freeze your exchange transaction for any period of time necessary to complete the investigation and AML/KYC procedure. After a period of 30 days if you deny to pass through the AML/KYC procedure it is in our judgment what we will do with your funds. There was a link you provide to track the total hits of this game but it seems like it's hard to find those stats, is there any way to check the data or it's just me having a problem finding it, and who is the winner of this week? Grin
The best place for following UFC competitions is the official website of the games. (To visit the website, click on this link.)
You can click on "events" button at top of the homepage and find all past and incoming scheduled rounds.

The last round which was held last night was round 254. (Click on this link.)

To see details of any of events (including number of strikes), just click on them.
You can find 6 events on main card tab, 4 events on preliminary card tab and 2 events on early prelims tab.

But, I will like to know if there can be any way someone can check the validity of his paper wallet private key correponding to his address.
You can simply install Electrum on an air-gapped computer, import your private keys and check generated addresses.

I am thinking of Iamcoleman, but it is possible to use such to test the validity?
If I'm not wrong, iancoleman can be used only for getting private keys and addresses derived from a seed phrase. As the website's title says, it's a mnemonic code Converter
I don't think you can enter a private key and get the address.
3754  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Block Halving on: October 24, 2020, 11:34:41 PM
As odolvlobo points out, since hash rate can increase in real time, but the target can only decrease every 2016 blocks, then if hash rate continues to increase then blocks will be mined quicker than every 10 minutes on average.
And that's exactly why first 210,000 blocks were mined in 3 years, 10 months, 19 days.
Second 210,000 blocks were mined in 3 years, 7 months, 11 days.
Third 210,000 blocks were mined in 3 years, 10 months, 3 days.

If blocks were mined every 10 minutes on average, the current block would be 620,200 while the last block mined was block number 654,173.

The average time of blocks confirmation in the past 654,170 blocks have been 9 minutes and 29 seconds.

1. Generate a hierarchical deterministic wallet using some algorithm. Then import the master public key to an online computer running Electrum. (I assume that the master public key can be used to generate unique public keys deterministically, correct?)
Electrum itself can generate the wallet.
Click on "Standard Wallet" when creating a new wallet and then select "Create a new seed".
Just note that the seed created by Electrum is not supported by other wallets (except bluewallet AFAIK).

You can also use iancoleman to generate a BIP39 seed phrase which is supported by most of other wallets including Electrum.
For more security, you should run iancoleman  in an offline computer.

For making the watch-only wallet, yes. Just import the Master public key into Electrum.
You can also import a list of addresses instead of the Master public keys.

2. Then install Electrum to an offline computer but instead importing the master private key. (which can generate unique private keys for the same public keys? Which when derived gives me the same public keys so to say).
You can make the wallet using the Master private key or the seed phrase.
Just note that if the seed phrase is BIP39, you need to click on "Options" and check "BIP39" when importing the seed.

3. On the online computer I make a transaction. I guess I initialize the transaction from the online computer because it needs data from the Blockchain which can't be accessed from an offline machine obviously.
Yes, but the transaction is unsigned and need to be signed in the offline computer.

4. Because the private keys only are present on the offline computer I transfer the transaction data (how? - usb, sd?) to the offline computer and there I sign through Electrum somehow. (I'll probably find it by clicking around in the GUI).
Yes, after entering the required data (the amount to be sent, fee, receiver address), you can click on "export" button. Just save the file into a removable drive (like a USB drive)

5. Then take the signed transaction and broadcast it from the online computer to the blockchain.
yes, Just click on "tools" at top of the window, load the unsigned transaction file and sign it.
Then you need to go to online computer again and broadcast the signed transaction.
Again you need to go tools > load transactions

If I print out my mnemonic phrase encrypted with a password I should be all set and I can start transferring money to the first generated public address, right?
Yes, you are the owner of all addresses generated by the seed (mnemonic) phrase.
3757  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paper Wallet, Encryption & Airgapped PC. Sweeping Question on: October 23, 2020, 09:01:47 PM
Mind sharing how to do this?
You can use Electrum. (Download electrum only from its official website and don't forget to verify the signature)
Below is the guide.

How to spend from an offline paper wallet using Electrum

That seems very nice indeed. But if I don't care about my payments being anonymized I still can't see why I shouldn't just use the same address.
Even if privacy doesn't matter to me, I would prefer a HD wallet.
If I want to write a private key on a paper, there's a high probability that I miss a few characters or misspell them. Writing a list of words is much easier.

So you basically come up with a seed yourself and then you run an algorithm on it that deterministically generates keys for you?
There are some standard algorithms for deriving private keys from a seed phrase. The most popular one is BIP39 which is supported by most of wallets.
3758  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paper Wallet, Encryption & Airgapped PC. Sweeping Question on: October 23, 2020, 08:32:41 PM
If the change address is the same as my paper wallet address, won't I just get all the change back to the paper wallet?
Yes,
If you don't want to send the remaining balance to a new address, it would be better to make the transaction offline. To do so, you need to create a watch-only wallet in an offline online* computer, sign it using your private key in the offline computer and broadcast it using an online computer.

If I hodl on a hardware wallet, is it wise to back up the private key on a paper anyways so if I lose it I still have access to all my funds?
You can create a HD wallet and keep the seed phrase instead.
A seed phrase is a list of words that generate numerous private keys and addresses.

If I buy eth and btc and just hold them on paper until I get a hardware wallet, can I import my keys to the hw wallet or should I just send the funds as normal transactions?
Note that your coins are not in the paper. Your coin are in blockchain and you keep your private key in the paper.
You can import your private key. But it would better to use a HD wallet and send the entire balance to the new HD wallet.

*Edited. Thank you khaled0111. I miswrote that part.
3759  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Question about segwit and fees in Electrum wallet. on: October 22, 2020, 02:35:23 PM
And also, maybe someone know how to setup minimum fee? Because amount that I want to cashout is really small (around 100$) and very big fee is not good for me because I will also loose some money after using exchanger from bitcoin to $.
Exchanges usually doesn't allow you to set the fee. But you can do so for the transaction you are going to make using Electrum.
Just note that the less you pay for the transaction fee, the more you have to wait until your transaction get confirmed.

For lowering the fee in Electrum, you need to move the slider to left when making a transaction. (Look at the image below).

Currently, the minimum fee recommended by Electrum is about 70 satoshi per vbyte.

If you want to use a lower fee for your transaction (only if you are not in hurry), click on "Advanced"  and then set the fee manually at bottom of the window. (Look at the image below)

3760  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.03 not used for awhile constantly synchronizing on: October 22, 2020, 12:56:26 AM
... Because the version 3.3.8 was working for him...
No, it wasn't... that was kind of the problem.
From my understanding from previous posts made by quadxxxxx, he had a wallet created by 3.3.8 version. Electrum 3.3.8 was synced when he opened that wallet file.

-------electrum 3.3.8 but works perfectly---------

The problem was he couldn't have a synced wallet when he tried to create a new wallet using the seed phrase of the previous wallet. Neither in 3.3.8 version, nor in 4.0.4 version.

So my conclusion is:
If you have a wallet, make several transactions and make the wallet file size bigger and bigger gradually (even 300 MB), there is no problem and Electrum will be synced every time you open the wallet.
But if you import private keys or seed phrase of addresses that have a very large transaction history into a new wallet, electrum will have trouble to get synced.
