3761  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: December 08, 2015, 12:53:27 AM
Mine will be a little bit slower still using all 7 compacs.  I need to go through and tune voltages on them.  Ever since I got my 2nd batch I have not did a great tune on them.  The first batch I had sit down and knocked it out with my hubs.

But I ended up just going lower freq whall I do some other projects.  But it will go back up.
3762  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: mining guide on: December 08, 2015, 12:50:55 AM
i got wine to work and its running the GUI but it just sits at preparing i think because i don't know exactly where the miner is plugged into and or the com port i need to change the .ini file too

In devices it should be I think.   It say's the com port pretty clear.  Or cgminer.exe --ndevs tell's it aswell if using cgminer.

Only thing I'm not sure of is going to windows using wine.  It could cause problems depending in interaction with usb.  It's not really meant to go through wine.    It's normally Linux or window's.
3763  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Basic Mining Question on: December 08, 2015, 12:47:16 AM
I've been mining for awhile now on Slush and recently transitioned my miners to a smaller pool. It's been about 3 days now and I've been thinking and learning a lot more by speculation on this forum and the operation of this small pool I am on.

Question:

When pools are mining, are they all mining the same block or different separate blocks that the pool is locked in to until the block is solved then another block is locked into the pool?

There is no progress toward a block or something such a individualism. Its more like drawing lots until you find a winning one (a share). When you find a winning one, that is a share with a diff over the global network, you found a block. The node broadcast it to the network and then tell you if its valid.

Ok thanks for your reply

Your other option is looking at pools that offer PPS.  This is much more stable as far as daily pay.  But they do take a fee.

So over time you mine less profit if the other pool would be 100  percent.  But sometimes PPS is nice to have if you like consistent pay.
3764  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: B-Eleven sha-256 ASIC miner on: December 08, 2015, 12:34:42 AM
We need a low cost miners that can hash in the the tera's...  The S7 is great and all but it's so expensive..  I'm just a hobbyist miner but with the difficulty increasing all the time, it's starting to suck for us small guys  Cry

Actually some miners are already cheaper as higher BTC price.  This causes  the miners to be cheaper if you were holding onto BTC.  So that is good if holding already, if you are not holding it has no effect.

But i have a feeling "low cost" will not meet where you want it to.  If you want current gen miners you pay for it... and they hold value longer and you can even sell them one day when you go to get new.   If your wanting "low cost" you really need to have lower electricity and then can look at used miners.

I know what you are going to say  but why did it go up that high to start with, if they were selling them for around 3 to 500 per miner . that made no sense but did but my thought on the did doesn't all ways agree with others .

but one thought is they messed up there sells some how and got to far a head of them self and have to make it up some how or the other thing i won't go there .

I don't agree they had to they didn't have to . no one ever has to  Smiley .

Look at how miners have evolved.  I started in GPU day's.  But think asics back to USB sticks... yes you could get them cheaper as they were very cheap to produce.  Chances are we all overpaid quite a bit.

But look at miners now some are huge.  I mean Avalon 6 and S7 are getting some big numbers on speed, and at good efficiency.  So miners of today vs when asics started are very different.

On price each company I'm sure has it's own plan.  But I still think what it mines is considered.  If it's going to mine a lot more for then then selling... then using it themself sounds pretty good.  To sell to another then need a quick profit to justify it vs long term of keeping it and mining it.

Honestly on last two paragraphs I'm not totally sure what your saying if you want to clarify.
3765  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are the most popular miners? on: December 08, 2015, 12:28:04 AM
Pools don't mine.
Pools send work TO miners then gather the results.

He's wanting to know the program that is being used.  I just don't think the data is there.  We have no idea how many machines have CGMiner running within them.  Just most companies don't release this.   Also people using BFGMiner or CGMiner of RPI's and such.

I do not think he will get the anwser he want's.  I would be very surprised if there is a accurate number out there.  If was all public companies on miner makers would stand a lot better chance, but most are private companies.
3766  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: profit with s7 batch 8 on: December 08, 2015, 12:24:40 AM
Also need to know if your dong profit in BTC or Dollars.  For example batch 1's costed a lot more in BTC.   Now come batch ... the price is much much lower on BTC.

So actually buying now vs start is huge bonus on profit.  But difficulty is a tough cookie right now.   So going to really depend also on what difficulty does, I hope it goes down but it's been kinda high.
3767  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: wanted: New hardware on: December 08, 2015, 12:22:42 AM
I want to purchase some new asic miners. are there any asic miners that use the 22nm fab process or lower?

I have a lot of distaste for antminer because of the u3's that I have. What are some other brands out there?

The u3's are bad, there is a way to fix the Zombie thing, since i assume thats your issue, with the r1 router or a simple restart script, iirc.

But don't take that as a ground for how the S's are. The S3(And S1) and S5 are pretty solid, though the S5 need a bit of post purchase work. The S2 and S4 work fine out of the box, though they are noisy.

The S7, well it worries me with the heatsink that can falloff and its a very big piece of hardware to get in one bite, but its still a good miner if you don't melt the thermal plaster.

If you don't have a script to fix the U3's you will hate them.  Waking up to zombies... going to bed to zombies... so much work to reset over and over.  It get's tiring.

I used crazyguy's custom R1 he sells with firmware to reset U3's and have 3 U3's on it soloing.  Chances are it will never pay off.... but lotto is still fun.
3768  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Setting up new diff thread Dec 6 to Dec 20 picks closed. on: December 08, 2015, 12:21:08 AM
Yes even with the new diff increase we are still at +5-6% for the day. Keeps going up and up.

Do you know when Bitmain will stop building the S7? I assume they only ordered a limited amount of the S7 ASIC chip. Once they run out, its going to cost millions to manufacteur more.

yeah that would be a nice piece of info to have.

@ bitmaintech feel free to let me know how many more you will build.

And while you are at it  please put aside 2000 chips for sidehack.

Thank you sirs Smiley

Yeah !! please !! Tongue

I think very wishful thinking on getting him some chips.  I'm actually surprised he got some on first round.  It would be great as I would love a POD out of some new chip. But i think scale is small where they can just as easy put it in their own machines and make more money chances are.

So I don't expect chip sales unless you show up with a lot of cash.    So no small order, order a batch and then they would do it chances are... but that is a lot of money to tie up.  And for community to round up that kinda cash not easy.

I just hope this week difficulty slows down a little bit.   I really want those 5 percents again, I liked those changes much better.
3769  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 21 cents per kw, Any way to mine? on: December 08, 2015, 12:17:16 AM
Yeah i thought that much, It actually works out at more like 23 cents a kw/h. Would it not even be possible to mine alts then convert to btc at a profit? (off topic i know)

Dunno how accurate this website is but it may worth a try http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency
You can calculate your earning of several altcoins + bitcoin based on the difficulty, power cost...etc, i made my calculation and it showed that I will have a huge bill without a real profit.

Coinwarz is just good for current period. It's horrible long term as no difficulty change.  Use one like https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator  .  With it you can add difficulty.

But OP your could mine... just is not profitable and you won't roi on machine unless you mined with it and somehow sold for most of what you paid.  But would all involve selling.  Better solution is looking into hosting.  You can host at places much cheaper and you stand a chance at ROI.
3770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [OPEN] Official FutureBit MoonLander USB Scrypt Stick Order Thread on: December 07, 2015, 09:52:03 PM
PM sent.

I can say from the prototype model I got it is very fun to play with.  I'm still got a few things I want to do testing.  But if your looking for a fun little miner this is a great one to add to your collection.
3771  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 07, 2015, 09:06:45 PM
Follow Up PM Question:

Thanks Smiley Will download and burn the image and see if I can set it up. What's the default ip address that I should look for?

There is no default if it had that it would be a static IP image Smiley.  This is DHCP so your router provides it with IP.

So I would look at router before and look at attached devices screenshot that.  And the new IP after turning on should show up there.  If that does not work there are scanning tools.

But with the BlockC dhcp image it is very easy just get that IP and you can connect.  After you can change to Static if you want.  The DHCP image saves you time from having to connect and change IP if it was wrong IP set on the  static images out there.
3772  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: December 07, 2015, 08:05:42 PM
I'm guessing but were talking maybe a nice home miner if you could get the chips that does maybe 2 th @ 500 watts , not loud ? oc, who knows what speed and very loud ?.

if you could get some chips, that would be sweet.
If he could get the chips and do 2th @500w sound wouldn't be an issue, 500w miner with a push/pull system could be super quiet.

the s-3 with push pull at 350 watts 450gh  was  quiet.

and at 300 watts 400gh very quiet.

so anything in this concept of less gh

does not really hurt  the s-7

say 1200gh 300 watts  low speed
      1600gh 400 watts middle speed
      2000gh 500 watts  cranked up.

I am sure a simple agreement to stay low like the numbers above would be good for sidehack and for bitmaintech.

and for USA miners or small miners world wide.
Yes it would be great for everyone all around IF Bitmain has the chips being cranked out and aren't currently limited by them, which I hope is the case.

So far they have not really wanted to share chips on newer ones I don't think.  I think that is the part of the wall of the POD's. Is a lot of the companies would rather throw it in their own miners and not mess with selling chips.

And it's could be do to scale aswell.  If you show up with a ton of money for chips you would get a more serious talk with them.  But I have a feeling the amount used for pods or close devices they are not to interested in selling what is in their eyes a small order.
3773  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 07, 2015, 08:01:21 PM
A PM question:

Is there a DHCP image for the avalon 4 to use with the RPi? My router is from apple and I cannot seem to be able to change the subnet otherwise I'd have it running by now.

Yes very first page of the review has BlockC's dhcp image.  With it you should be able to use it on any network that has dhcp on (almost all).

You can find it on - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1257327.0 part 3
3774  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: December 07, 2015, 04:56:27 PM
5) no proof of h/w (thats why i am cautious with gigahash)

Actually, what is more important than 'proof' of hardware, which can always be faked, is proof of hashrate. This is extremely easy for the cloud mining operator to show live 24/7, they only need to show blocks being mined as they happened and from this can be extrapolated a rough hashrate.

The only problem with this is establishing that they haven't sold more hashrate than they evidently possess.

Which is why, if you really can't run your own hardware in-house but still want to mine, you're better off avoiding restrictive 'cloud mining' schemes altogether and simply renting actual rigs or straight-up hash-power which you can point wherever you wish.

You really need a vouch from a manufacture of asics.  For example hashnest it is bitmain... so pretty good there.  A second kind is like Bit-X where Bitfury came out to vouch they paid for 1PH of hash for their site.

So there is a few different way's but you can find good vouches for certain sites.  Some will try to avoid this question on hardware.... those that do I would never invest with.
3775  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie needs a wallet on: December 07, 2015, 04:53:01 PM
blockchain.info is pretty insecure...

if you're looking for a easy wallet check out blocktrail (web&app) or mycelium (mobile). just make sure to backup your passwords.

Use 2FA and it's decent for a hotwallet.  Yes a hot wallet.  You still should keep most stored in a cold wallet.

On this "needs" a wallet it really varies so much depending on what the wallet used for.  So many different need's and uses, which helps pick right wallet.

Price seems to be setting in 390's.  Which is not to bad at all. I still want to see 400 +.

Were less then 5 dollars from it but I'm guessing there are some sell walls to break through.  Also it's still very early but here is bit wisdom.
3777  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks CLOSED! on: December 07, 2015, 04:41:18 PM
Ahhh, so close! Well that was fun.

next one will be good it is the best prize ever

.316 btc and 1 compac  usb stick

Should get a good amount of interest!   I am locking this thread.  Feel free to continue discussions in phil's new thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1278803.0 for current period.
3778  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Miners Won't Work After Installing New Router? on: December 07, 2015, 04:52:46 AM
So I plugged my old router back in, and everything was up and running. Simple.

I still don't know what the problem was, but I guess using that new router will have to wait. At least until I figure out what's causing them to not work. :/

Thanks for the help, you guys.

If you have them in DHCP they should work pretty easy with new router.  But as I mentioned some ISP routers really are not so great.    It is more expensive but  I would ask ISP about if it does a bridged mode, and you can plug in a high quality router.  With gigabit internet though the routers can be pricey to benefit from it.

I would give it a try with DHCP and see what happens.  Once you have time for a project that is.
3779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 07, 2015, 03:58:25 AM
Wow, this thing is just getting better and better.  I would say this is a definite huge plus for the PI controller and and many farms as you don't need to manage via a ton of IP addresses, run those cables and need a huge switch.

@Notlist3d or Phillip - Most likely gear toward Notlist3d but can you see if you can overclock it to 4TH like the others are referencing by changing the voltage.  I want to see if this is possible with the EVGA and if yes, how much watt will it draw, I think I read something like 1200 watts but I didn't see any confirmation because the guy who ran that test said his Kill-A-Watt was dead.

Right now I don't have any server PSU's to do it.  I have been looking at a few but have not ordered one yet.  I needed a PSU quick so I went with EVGA 1300 works fine for regular running, but no OC through input voltage.

Right now I will probley try to see if I can get to a week without rebooting or any issues at all.  It should go good and no issues.  But still testing stability.
3780  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks CLOSED! on: December 07, 2015, 01:11:02 AM
Just wait the change is going to be +8.7 and no one will win  Tongue

Good call, sorry no prize for such a late guess Smiley

0.316 BTC for the next round, which is I think the highest reward we've ever had.

Interesting kinda nice to see it move on to next round.  Makes it quite fun and should get quite a bit of attention that kinda coin on a guess.

I still don't know if I should be happy with 8. something or if I should be worried.  Thread will be open and give some time to discuss Smiley.  But eventually it will be locked and conversations will move to phil's thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1278803.0
