Do I not have 2 coins because I don't have 10 merit?

That is correct. Read the Merit & new rank requirements thread for more details.

If so, how do I get merit?  Thank you.

If you make a post that someone thinks deserves Merit they'll give it to you. Have a search of this board and you'll find hundreds of post discussing that and you'll find many different opinions on how to get Merit. I would say forget about Merit and just use the forum to learn about and discuss Bitcoin and Merit will come to you.

I understand that someone might feel that crypto will become more tangible with banknotes, but the truth is that cash is slowly disappearing from the society, why would crypto need to go the opposite direction? future is cashless

The cashless society is something being forced on us by big brother government so they can watch every cent you spend. That's why this is a perfect antidote to that, Bitcoin can be passed from person to person without even the need for a blockchain transaction, complete anonymity.

It is absolutely impossible. Not only because of hundreds of technical issues that would arise, but more because of the idea that such modern currency would use such outdated representation. It would be absolutely inefficient and uncontrollable. I would say that this currency should stay in the electronic state, at best - on cards or phone apps.

Read the thread. These are cards with an NFC chip in them. It is not impossible, these things exist.

I'm even wondering whether the business is profitable, considering how much you give out each month.

I doubt it would still be here if it wasn't.

I haven't managed to find the withdrawals on the stats page, but I can imagine that the amount is big.

It always shows the recent withdrawals including a link to a block explorer.

https://snag.gy/dM8JZB.jpg

The current payout address is https://btc.com/329koRvovTyNnd4ADrpR2uJHzXxfvKxta5

Although I think there is more than one address we use.

that stats page doesn't show complete statistics, only positive numbers for marketing gimmick
it does tell you how much won by users but doesn't say anything about lost amount
it does show withdrawal amounts on blockchain but never mentioned total deposited by users
so only partial statistics available to us which used by the site to attract more users

Or for wetsuits privacy.

Sites that give full statistics tend to be the ones with crowdfunded bankrolls. They need that level of transparency for their investors.

I tried to PM them here but their setting do not permit Nubes like myself on the forum to contact them.

The support email is the best way to contact them rather than through the forum PM system. I'm sure they will get back to you as soon as they can. All previous technical issues reported in this thread were dealt with and I'm confident they'll rectify this soon.

Can I suggest a slight change to the layout on the display of roulette bets? The new date and time field is too short to display the time unless you open it in its own tab.

https://snag.gy/OZ4G3N.jpg

If you moved it to its own line then the time would fit in the box.

3787  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: May 11, 2018, 07:02:01 AM
Is it an official way to increase you halved free btc there? By buying lottery tickets? Never heard about it before, but I do not think buying tickets will increase your halved free btc.

It is fairly new but yes halved rewards are only for accounts that don't meet certain minimum requirements of wagering, playing jackpots, buying lottos tickets and/or keeping a certain balance.

See below:

The reduced free play base rewards is still a work in progress. We have been forced to put in additional protections to maintain our sustainability since there is an ongoing attack of a huge number of bots abusing the free play (most likely using a botnet). All our previous protections have failed against this and any new protections are adapted to within a couple of days. So we have been forced to reduce the free play rewards using an algorithm, specifics of which I cannot reveal as that would compromise it.

I've got a few more details about the reduced awards algorithm I can share with you.

The algorithm for reducing rewards takes a combination of the balance, wager, lottery and jackpot spending to calculate the reward. Jackpot spending has a higher weight (4x) and the lottery has the highest weight (20x).

If you do not want to gamble you can keep a balance above $50 to not have reduced rewards.

Most users will not need to keep the full balance though because their gambling history is also added up to calculate.

New accounts have full rewards for the first 100 rolls to help them build up a history and then the algorithm is applied to them. So opening a new account might seem like it helps but it won't.

Additionally, the balance needed to have no captcha is $100.

If it works like that, then how is the calculation? buy 900 tickets and get 6 additional satoshi on the free btc?
keep buying lottery tickets or playing multiple btc, but I doubt his free btc is at 17s... strange amount

I gave all the information wetsuit gave me above but I believe that getting 17 rather than 22 means that they are most of the way there. It looks to be increased proportionally rather than just a switch when you get back to full reward.

it definitely will increase your free btc but it won't adjust your reward back to full base reward
currently base free btc is 22 and your halved free btc is 11
so if you've done enough to increase it, you will be getting 22 satoshi (11+11)
unless the bonus is added full amount then it will be 33 satoshi (11+22)

read the last line in the orange notification box, it tells you exactly how to increase your free btc
it also shows your progress to the next bonus level and bonus amount you will be getting next
what is the amount you see there? mine is showing +22s (per level)
what is your total bonus reward? my bonus is at +44s now (the first line)
Quote from: freebitco.in
Bonus +0.00000044BTC added to all rewards!
Play MULTIPLY BTC or buy lottery tickets to increase your FREE BTC rewards by up to +0.00000418 BTC
94.6209% achieved towards the next +0.00000022 BTC bonus!

I'm also guessing that it is roughly based on the same algorithm as the bonus BTC but with the addition of taking your balance into account.

Hello. I bought 1000 lottery tickets to increase my halved free BTC bonus but nothing happened  Huh. I asked my friend and he bought 900 tickets and his free BTC bonus increased to 17 satoshis right away. Mine remained 11 satoshis... What should I do?

Unless you and your friend have exactly the same free-roll, gambling and deposit history the algorithm will give different outputs.

Actually I don't think so because some players do win in the "Multiply your bitcoins" and in the Lottery sections. You can check the STATS section to see how many Bitcoins were won by users and you'll see that the amount is impressive.

Speaking about the Multiply section, the site has 5% house edge and that's what they keep to themselves, not most of the Satoshis received from the FREE Rolls. Same goes for any provably fair dice gambling site, they don't care about winning or losing of a particular player, they just earn from the house edge.

The amount gambled is indeed quite impressive compared to other dice sites.  Wink You can also see the withdrawals on the stats page and they add up to a large amount as well.

The 5% house edge isn't what we keep to ourselves it is the gross income. That has to pay for the faucet and all the lottery tickets and reward points we give away. Then all the hosting costs etc. and what is left over is the profit.

@Triple_S
Yes, you got it right while I was typing up this.
3788  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's Merit source application on: May 11, 2018, 05:31:04 AM
....but did his negative trust or his merit resignation come first? I wasn't around for that day, or those couple of days, it's been a busy past month. I've missed a lot of the nuance and inner-workings of these issues.

The resignation came 4 days before the red paint was splattered.

Is that a fair assumption to make? Would the evidence or the announcements support the idea that they are all merit sources? Also, outside of Global moderators or other DT members, are there any examples of those with a negative DT trust rating that are sources?

Reasonably fair looking at the Most generous merit senders, all time page. The said Global Moderator is 14th with 445 Merit sent.

As for other sources with red paint, I don't know but I'd guess it would depend on the circumstances rather than be a set rule.
3789  Economy / Marketplace / Re: A survey on Exchange Security...These are the findings on: May 10, 2018, 11:05:02 AM
Also, a proper security test seldom needs permission of the site/server... you don't want them to start prepping for an attack, otherwise you don't get real world conditions.

When I used to manage data networks for an investment bank the IT security officer would hire an external security consultancy to perform penetration and vulnerability testing. We would never know anything about it until the results came back. I'd like to know many exchanges do the same thing.
3790  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Localbitcoins now requires identification on: May 10, 2018, 10:49:14 AM
I don't know if this clause was always there, or was only recently added. But the fact that the ID verification measures are tightening suggests that it could soon become much worse than what it is right now. Because this clause basically says that we can hold your funds, as well as you ban you from trading.

I've had my account since 2013 which was probably the last time I read the ToS until I got that email yesterday. So I've got no idea if that's new or not either.

I never hold much coin there anyway, but that certainly doesn't encourage me to start doing so.
3791  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Localbitcoins now requires identification on: May 10, 2018, 10:11:16 AM
2. Need Identity verification (The process is quite simple and fast)

They still use the phrase 'may be required'.

Quote
Identity Verification
In order to ensure LocalBitcoins remains a safe platform for all of our customers we may require you to verify your identity to access part of the services we offer. Identity verification may be required when you create advertisements, pass certain trade volume limits, during trade disputes, fraud investigations, and to ensure account ownership. As part of our ID verification process we require you to provide us with your full name as well as documents and photographs that verify your identity.

In certain situations we may require enhanced identity verification. This may include requirements to verify details or sources of funds regarding payments you have made or received during trades on LocalBitcoins as well as bitcoin transactions that you’ve sent or received from your LocalBitcoins account.

ID verified accounts have a clear owner which makes it easy to return access to you if you lose all access to your account. It is very hard or impossible to return access to accounts that are unverified, even if you know your username, as it is difficult to identify the original account owner.

This still sort of indicates it isn't being done universally across all customers and/or locations. Paragraph 2 is a bit more disturbing.

3792  Economy / Speculation / Re: NYSE parent company may open actual Bitcoin trading on: May 10, 2018, 09:42:33 AM
It's probably too early to tell whether this will actually come into fruition or not.

It's only a matter of time.

We're only seeing the start of the institutional players coming into the picture, which is again a reason why I feel like that the long term future of bitcoin is still quite bright, and there are obviously gains to be realised if you were to get into BTC right now.

There is no way the main financial exchanges were going to sit back and let new upstart exchanges take all the profit. It might seem like it is slow to us, but it is only 9 nine years in and those old players are naturally cautious. They were always going to wait and see how it grew before getting involved. This is a reminder that anyone getting involved in Bitcoin now is an early adopter.

3794  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint T1 16TH/S halongmining.com on: May 10, 2018, 05:01:16 AM
That doesn't change that these are more efficient than the S9 so will give you more BTC for every $ you spend on electricity. That's the only thing that should matter.

You realize that the efficiency is so close that your arguement is null and void right?

No, it doesn't make it null and void. Efficiency is the most important factor in determining the profitability of the miner.

At 10 cent power you are talking about a $5/month difference in power for similar hashrates and the Dragon costs literally twice as much to purchase new.

It would take the miner running 10 years for things to even out.

It will be interesting to see how competitive Halong can be with pricing going forward. With network difficulty and BTC price both being beyond prediction you can't make any accurate forecasts about how long it will take to recover capital expenditure.

You need to look at the big picture and not at one small data point.

That's funny as that was the point I was making to you:-

That being said its a big load of crap that you cant run these at advertised specs with advertised hash rate.

3795  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint T1 16TH/S halongmining.com on: May 09, 2018, 03:18:07 PM

For all the knocking you people do on bitmain, the miners they sell hash at the advertised rates and have power efficiency within advertised rates.

That doesn't change that these are more efficient than the S9 so will give you more BTC for every $ you spend on electricity. That's the only thing that should matter.

You would buy a lambo and drive it like a Skoda ?

The object is to make money not burn off expensive tyres for the sake of making some noise. You'll make the most money by running them at the most energy-efficient setting.
3797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we remove @Bitcoin on twitter on: May 09, 2018, 02:20:31 PM
Considering how many people hate it and actually advocate reporting it, I'm going to guess they don't view it as impersonation. Where do you draw that line anyway? Does the account holder need to be pro BTC for them to have the "right" to own the account?

It was suspended and was rumored to have changed hands recently, but no one really knows what happened behind the scenes. Maybe Twitter really did rule it to be impersonating Bitcoin, but they reversed their decision anyway. It's going to take something big for them to shut it down.

You can never really tell with Twitter, they seem quite arbitrary in applying the impersonation rule. They have even banned parody accounts before that are obviously not the person they're making fun of. I think it is far easier to make the case that @Bitcoin is being used to fool people that it is an official account.

3798  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Big wins at FreeBitco.in on: May 09, 2018, 12:58:26 PM

3799  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: May 09, 2018, 11:53:16 AM
The system tells me I have reported 2 users so far with 100% accuracy, but I don't know what that means! Do they just delete their posts or do the users have some kind of a punishment?

That depends on what the post is reported for. Spam low-value posts usually just get deleted whereas plagiarism is a permaban, other things may be somewhere in between. If the moderator thinks it is a spambot they'll probably ban it. The 100% accuracy just means that a moderator didn't mark it as an incorrect report.

There is no forum rule against giving Merit to a shitpost, so nobody is going to get banned for that.

I am all for decentralization and bitcoin. Few reason LN makes me scared:

You get scared by a network you are not forced to use.  Huh

It is too complex: I tried to read the paper multiple times and its very very complex. They have spent pages and pages on finding way to stop other party from stealing funds locked in channel. Compare with the bitcoin whitepaper - elegant and simple. I am not saying it won't work, but in 99% such a complex design is useless. Its like creating a mined blockhain to store a library database

You get scared of things you don't understand.

Requirement of being always online: This is my biggest problem. In response I got the argument of watchtowers, which creates another layer of people to trust. Would rather use a online wallet service instead of this !

You get scared of leaving a computer online.

Prone to DDOS attacks - This was also mentioned by Peter Todd
Funds locked in channels - Seems like you have keep sending more BTC bitcoins to LN to be able to transact with more number of people. I don't frequently do transaction with one single party which seems to be where LN is useful. Don't want my funds locked up. No Thanks ![/li][/list]

You get scared by misinformation. There's been a lot of work to mitigate potential DDoS attacks. You can close a channel anytime you like so your funds are not locked up.
