3781  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: The Most powerful tool created for monitoring and management ASIC miners on: June 28, 2020, 09:40:44 PM
I like what I see, seems like an alternative to the great Awoesominer, of course with a better price rate ( sorry Patrick  Cry ) , now comes the bad news which is TRUST!

I am a little over paranoid with my miners' security and I believe that most other members here are, so to give full access to a random (with all due respect) software doesn't seem like the smartest thing I would do, and the issue is, in this case, you can't say "try and then judge" because the consequences are bad, I recently got to know that some viruses are permanent and even Sdcarding the control board won't fix it (I used to think otherwise but now I am convinced).

I am not accusing you of anything, but it's more of an internet culture where "everyone is guilty until proven innocent", so my advice is: if you found a known and a trusted member who is willing to take the risk - give them more than just 6 months, probably a life-time license because whoever takes that bet will need to set up a VLAN and sacrifice a few mining gears for the test.

With that being said, if everything turns out to be legit, you got my support. good luck
3782  Economy / Reputation / Re: Earned Merit Race Animation - See if you ever got to top20 merited. on: June 28, 2020, 09:06:25 PM

Those two sources have different results, so it's worth saying that bpip includes airdropped merit while the forum's merit stats show only earned merit.
3783  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The second biggest mistake I made in mining. on: June 28, 2020, 06:42:45 PM
Look for e-waste buyers in your area.

e-waste buyer in my country is like a Unicorns elsewhere  Grin, I live in a developing country and we only read about these stuff on the internet, as for knocking off the heatsinks that sounds like a great idea, but I will let the gentlemen who work at the garbage dump collect them and make some money, they do that for a living since their salaries are terribly low, so they would collect whatever they can sell and I am sure they know how and where to sell those aluminum heatsinks.

Thanks Dave.
3784  Other / Meta / Re: The curious case of the forum member distrusting Satoshi on: June 28, 2020, 05:37:09 PM

I believe bitcoin has grown up so much to the extent that even satoshi can't do shit about it, 1m BTC is merely a 5%, people overreact to that amount for whatever reasons they see fit, but in reality a mediocre exchange like Huobi stores over a quarter of a million bitcoins in a single address , a few exchanges control a much larger amount of Bitcoin than satoshi and all other early-miners combined have, that poses a greater risk than Satoshi magically waking up and deciding to reveal himself.

What gives Bitcoin value are the people who believe in it, it's not the fastest to send, not the cheapest and doesn't even have the coolest logo but it survived all tests and it will only (logically) continue to do so, Satoshi is now history and if he ever shows up and starts moving his coins we will most certainly have a nice dip (not as bad as most people think) which will be a great opportunity to accumulate more of it, what happens after that is most likely more growth and higher prices.

Satoshi is the US government, and we are all stupid to not believe otherwise, and who trusts the government

I tend to disagree to this conspiracy, because no government is smart enough to invent something like Bitcoin.

3786  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will I know if one of my miners ever finds a block? on: June 28, 2020, 04:36:18 PM
In fact, I doubt that any mining pool would notify you about your miner finding a block, especially if it's a PPS pool.

OP if you use monitoring software like Aweosmeminer you can add a trigger for block found detection like so

Although I wouldn't do that for gears that aren't solo mining, what is the point of blaming yourself wishing the gear that found the block was mining solo?  Undecided
3787  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: My T15 stop working on: June 27, 2020, 10:15:33 PM
I open ther PSU, nothing burn, zero smell (i don't have the cov19 ok, hehe), everthing looks fine, i test the primary protections (varistors, thermistors, fuse, etc.) and evething looks fine, anyone have schematics? or any idea what happens with my PSU?
It's a APW8.

It's almost impossible to fix PSUs from Bitmain unless it's an obvious easy fix, I am not an expert in dealing with all the PSU components but I took a few dead PSU to a friend who knows all about this stuff, and the conclusion I came up with (based on his thoughts) the way these PSUs were built is merely for one-time use, fixing them will consume more time and effort than what they actually worth, unless of course, you have all the skills, spare parts and nothing else to do that makes you money,  in my friend's case he apparently could make a lot of money fixing other things that aren't glued and have no pinouts, so he nicely asked me not to waste his time.  Cry

With that being said, it's worth saying that most PSUs that stopped working for me simply needed a fan replacement, did you confirm that two fans spin just fine? I know thierry4wd plays quite a bit with his PSUs, I hope he would chime in for more thoughts.

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-T2-1600-X1

8pin PCIE = 150w
6pin PCIE =75w
Sata = 54 watts

Sata.

3789  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Whatsminer M30 / M31 Reliability + Warentee Experiences. on: June 26, 2020, 11:02:03 PM
Comparing the 17 series from bitmain to any other mining gear will always lead to the same results, those 17 series are the worst mining gears anybody has ever made, so without a doubt, the M20 and M21s are far more robust than S17/T17, but since we don't have enough data on S19/T19 we can't be certain about their quality, my bet is "they are much better than the 17 series", but are they better than the m30+/m30++/m30s from microbt?  nobody can tell, it is a bit too early to judge.

But overall comparing Microbt gears to Bitmain in terms of quality, I would say MicroBt, honestly, Bitmain failed big time in the 17 series, S9k , S9e and many other non-btc mining gears, the S9 was the last mining gear from Bitmain with tremendous robustness, I hope they have gone back to the same standards on these 19 series, although I wouldn't trust them until months have passed.
3790  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: June 26, 2020, 10:37:33 PM
So I am in a mine and hold mode.  We can do this a long time

With the current mining gear prices, this is the best thing to do, most experienced miners have already positioned themselves pre-halving to stay profitble post-halving, what I do with mining profit now is basically day trading it trying to increase it while keeping the risk as minimal as I can, the initial plan was to slowly add M21s gears but because of Bitmain's internal issues, prices have increased a lot which makes buying gears at current prices a terrible idea, so I might just accumulate and when the right time comes I'd go lump-sump on adding mining gears instead of gradually accruing them, this, of course, that depends on the price of those gears for the next a few months.

Meanwhile, this is what we have

Quote
Current Pace:   99.1908%  (1463 / 1474.93 expected, 11.93 behind)
Next Difficulty Change:   between -0.7990% and -0.7393%

3 days to go, and looks like <1% drop in difficulty.
3791  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ keeps giving error after my PSU came back from repair from Bitmain... on: June 26, 2020, 07:04:51 PM

What i meant by input voltage is the AC voltage from the wall socket which needs to be between 200v and 240v, you could also test the output voltage from the PSU which should be above 12DCV for apw9+.
3792  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ keeps giving error after my PSU came back from repair from Bitmain... on: June 26, 2020, 04:01:50 PM
This part

Code:
[2020/06/26 15:30:20] ERROR: driver-btm-chain.c:687 chain[2] - Voltage is different, cur=485 mV tgt=21000 mV
[2020/06/26 15:30:20] ERROR: driver-btm-chain.c:471 chain[2] - Failed to set start up voltage

Here are 2 possobilites

1- They sent you the wrong PSU that doesn't work with S17+, or they sent you a faulty PSU.
2- The input voltage is low/high, can you use a multimeter to confirm that the voltage is between 200v and 240v ?
3793  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: June 25, 2020, 11:43:28 PM
MicroBT has a reasonable amount of inventory available to ship now so I wouldn't expect any large diff drops either.

The current prices on Microbt gears are very high, the M30S++ 110th sells for $3,400 and does 31w/th, on the other hand, the last batch of S19 pro went for $2,407 and does 29.5w/th (slightly more efficient) and $1000 cheaper and ships only month later, with free power you need 4 months to ROI the price difference, not very encouraging if you ask me.

When Bitmain went out of stock due to their internal issues, MicroBt raised its gear prices, M21s was about $600 and now it's 800$ that's 33% increment, mind you profitability has gone lower than before so the price increment is simply due to the fact that Bitmain went out of stock and looks like MicroBT don't have enough gears to handle the market alone at those prices so the easiest thing to do was to boost prices.

I hope Bitmain rivals take this chance to gain more popularity and to improve, this is a huge opportunity for them that might not repeat itself in years to come.
3794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sending USDT to BTC address on: June 25, 2020, 07:54:14 PM
That is true, but only if you try to send the ERC-20 or TRC-20 version of Tether to an Omni layer USDT address.

Well, you don't really own a specific version of USDT on Binance, I don't know how Binance deals with the balance internally, but if you have USDT on Binance it means you can spend it on all 3 blockchains, if you have my ERC-20 USDT address, and you send me some USDT tokens, I can then send it to an Omni address or even TRC-20 without converting or exchanging a thing, Binance will only check the structure of the address, if it matches a valid btc legacy address when you send on OMNI layer, it will send it without a question.

I disagree. I would argue that any decent exchange doesn't have any single employee with direct access to private keys.

Of course, it's not like you are going to contact support and they will transfer you to someone who keeps all the private keys on his tablet, the exchange will have their own procedure to access those private keys without exposing all private keys to a single point of failure, they could have a sort of internal multi-sig between a few employees or however they see fit, as a client I don't care how they do it, and I read many stories from exchanges like Binance and Hitbtc, in fact, the former even helped users recover tokens sent to a wrong address of a token that was not even listed on their exchange, Hitbtc would help you recover funds sent to the wrong address at a fixed fee of $100, I am sure a few other well-known exchanges will do that same, this doesn't compromise their security by any means if done correctly, but I agree on the fact that some exchanges might not want to bother with all of this at all.
3795  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: M21s 58th error on: June 25, 2020, 02:33:41 AM
it can do over current.  he may have the p20. which is 3300 vs 3600

Thanks for the great explanation phill, are you sure the miner does over current protection and not voltage protection? I believe those are two different things.

If the miner doesn't want to go past 16 amps, this means if you could make it run at 25th the total wattage required will be about 60w*25th = 1500w, which means even at 150v you are drawing only 10 amps and the miner will work just fine, but I highly doubt it will run at 150v, where does the math go wrong in this?

3798  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: M21s 58th error on: June 24, 2020, 11:03:33 PM
Your powerline voltage is too low - the miner requires at least 208VAC and preferably the voltage should be between 220-240VAC.

ِAccording to the specs on pangolinminer the M21 uses P21 power supply which needs AC200-240V, will the PSU really trip at 2 volts lower? I ran out of regulated power in one place and I run 1*s17+ and 1 S17pro on two different phases, none of them is above 220v at any given time, one moves around the low 200v to the mid 190v, and to my surprise, this time with these two gears mining operations are going perfectly fine despite the warning from Bitmain to never run them below 200v (Nobody should attempt this).

The funny thing is when I tried this before on the same 17 series, they didn't want to run below 200v for long, is it possible that they reduced the sensitivity on these gears? did they improve them? maybe the firmware or complete coincidence? I am tempted to run M21s on unregulated voltage to see how it does in the mid 190s, sadly for now I can't risk it, I am willing to risk Bitmain gears because I will most likely never buy any form them again anyway, but I need the Microbt gears for testing.

My guess is OP's voltage drops below 198v when the miner is running, I highly doubt 198 is low enough to trigger the PSU protection, but I am willing to hear more from NotFuzzyWarm.

3800  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: v9 control board to s11 s15 t15 s17 t17 on: June 24, 2020, 08:39:50 PM
And the control board of Miner V9 is easily downgraded to the S11 or S17
The only problem is:
In the Miner V9 board, we do not have the power output to control apw8 and apw9 powers
If we can find it
The problem is solved

I don't pretend to know all the technical aspects of this, i also agree that with physical modification you will likely get any control board to run any hashboard, but the fact that bitmain with all the money and engineers did not take the route  - simply tells me that the cost of doing so is ridiculously high, mind you that bitmain probably have a ton of those old control boards and have access to all the components at a much cheaper price than all of us, labor in china makes such a thing even more justifiable but they didn't do it, which only leads to one conclusion.
