3784  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Octotank12 with 2 whatsminer 30s+ review. Not ready for full review. on: July 06, 2023, 01:11:52 PM
They emailed me yesterday and offered to refund my 2000 dollars and gave me a coupon to buy other gear from them.

Once I get the 2000 I will buy a gpu rig as it will be decent gear at a good price if gpus ever mine well again.

I will post my usdt address here

this is an erc-20  address on my coinbase account.

hope to see the funds soon.

3788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Q: Why no PCIe ASIC miners? on: July 06, 2023, 04:38:45 AM
Agree with OP.
An PCIe ASIC card would be sick, I would buy for sure.
Let's assume that Chinese engineers can take one of the boards with ASIC chips and make it compatible with a PC via a PCIe interface. The ASIC uses powerful fans to cool the chips. Will you turn your PC into a noisy monster?
Such a board will economically lose to ASICs.

None of that applies to using ASICs in a custom system vs using ASICS with a PCie (or USB) interface in a commodity system. ASiCs are ASICs no matter how they are used.
In this I agree with you. ASIC is a standalone device and does not need an additional interface, except for connecting a LAN cable. If we connect some kind of mining device to the motherboard, then it will be an analogue of a video card or FPGA.

One negative is that new motherboards have fewer PCIe slots and more m.2. m.2 to PCIe splitters will be needed for the next mining bull when and if it happens.

octominer has 8 slot and 12 slot cases. They have the ability to provide well over 3000 watts as a few of the cases have 4 1000 watt hp servers.
3789  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Replacement for POW on: July 06, 2023, 12:34:10 AM
Dragging up this thread. eth is discussing staking at 2048 coins not 32

https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2023/06/19/ethereum-developers-propose-raising-validator-limit-to-2048-ether-from-32-ether/

and that is why POS is piece of shit

the very idea they have the balls to talk about doing that shows how fucked up staking can be.

Woah thats crazy that they are actually thinking about doing that. I don't even get why they made the 32 ETH thing in the first place. Lots of other PoS coins don't have a minimum size to stake at all, or if they do it's a lot less than that amount of money. Ethereum seems to be the most complicated and centralized version of PoS out there.

If they changed it to 2048 ETH lol literally you'd probably only have a few dozen stakers. Centralized ones like liquid staking pools and exchanges, plus the ETH founders and initial investors, and anyone who was lucky enough to buy a bunch of ETH before 2017 and hold onto it. Basically the ETH network would be validated by a few very wealthy people plus centralized services.

It's funny when people who don't know what they are talking about try to say that Bitcoin should move to PoS like Ethereum lol. I actually saw some rant online a week or two ago where someone was arguing that Bitcoin is bad because even though Bitcoiners say they will eventually move to PoS they won't really do it. All I could think was who in the heck was this guy talking to who said Bitcoin would move to PoS lol, no Bitcoiners talk about switching away from PoW, he must have been talking to some people who were pranking him haha. Only the people who don't know the value of Bitcoin would say such a thing.

They simply change the rules over and over.

I think we are like 2015

Jan 15 price was 177
Jul 13 price was  308
Dec 16 price was 465

2024  2023

Jan 1 price 16500
July 5 price 30750
Dec 31 price 47000?
philipma1957, wait, are you really predicting for 2024, or is it for 2023?

I think it's still very reasonable to expect the end of 2023 for the bitcoin price to be higher than $45k, because we that's too close to the halving. Lots of interest will jump in and make the market a bull market, but I wouldn't rule out other possibilities even if a potential high price is expected. I will be at $40k, could be lower depending on market conditions and external influences.

typo

for 2024.

Jan 70k new high

Jul 100k topped and newer ATH

Dec 80k

for 2025
Jan  110k Newest ATH
Jul   150k even better
Dec  200k ath again

If you have keep power.
A good gear supply.
A good repair guy.
Mining makes money. Or crypto.

It is active income involving work.

Buy and hold is higher risk with higher reward or loss. It is truly passive income.

Fourth of July is winding down for me.

a 100th s19 j pro doing  2900 watts burns about 72 kwatts
it earns $7.89 a day pre power, labor, maintenance.

so
power price cost    profit
11 cents = $7.92   3 cents in the red

10 cents = $7.20      89 cent profit
09 cents = $6.48  $1.61 profit
08 cents = $5.76  $2.33 profit
07 cents = $5.04  $3.05 profit
06 cents = $4.32  $3.77 profit
05 cents = $3.60  $4.49 profit
04 cents = $2.88  $5.21 profit
03 cents = $2.16. $5.93 profit
02 cents = $1.44  $6.65 profit

No-one really has 1 cent power when you add in labor and maintenance it at least a penny

buying a used 100th s19j pro for $1200 is possible even less if you shop around

So a six cent guy can pay it off in 1000/3.77 to 1200/3.77 or 265 days to 318 days.  Just about the ½ ing.
a 5 cent guy pays gear off in 222 to 267 days.
a 4 cent guy pays gear off in 191 to 230 days.

What's all this mean diff is going to go up some.

3799  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: keep a small mining farm cool with only air conditioners. on: July 05, 2023, 03:02:57 AM
@mikey I know why its hot 🥵 environment.

I have shifted units it is due to two really  stubborn people that don’t want to vent the area just a bit more.
and downclock just a bit more gear.

I am still running 15 L3s that I don’t want to run. burning 🥵 12kwatts to make about 15 usd a day.

I would have sold them a long time ago. But I am outvoted so they will run to the LTC ½ ing.

Some fun in the form of a haiku

seven poems by me
World registers hottest day
July third tops all days.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/world-registers-hottest-day-ever-155017716.html

"By Gloria Dickie

Monday, July 3, was the hottest day ever recorded globally, according to data from the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction.

The average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), surpassing the August 2016 record of 16.92C (62.46F) as heatwaves sizzled around the world.

The southern U.S. has been suffering under an intense heat dome in recent weeks. In China, an enduring heatwave continued, with temperatures above 35C (95F). North Africa has seen temperatures near 50C (122F).

And even Antarctica, currently in its winter, registered anomalously high temperatures. Ukraine's Vernadsky Research Base in the white continent's Argentine Islands recently broke its July temperature record with 8.7C (47.6F). ..."

A haiku poor one
Some solid fud for the thread
Or is it real facts?

BTW Made me laugh a bit.

"By Gloria Dickie" Wrote the global warming article.

but she claims to be real person.
