3781  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin price will be stable or i have to use another Alt ? on: February 02, 2015, 05:47:03 PM
Another vote with the crowd here. I doubt you are going to find stability in any alt coin. The wild fluctuations in price are because no one has any control over BTC. Most of us see that as a good thing.

Thanks Chef, this is a nice summation of the candidates. God help us all. lol
3783  Economy / Speculation / Re: looks like ISIS is fundraising with Bitcoin on: January 30, 2015, 09:30:13 PM
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Bitcoin to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use a suitcase of dollars to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Litecoin to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Darkcoin to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Doge to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use PGP/GPG to facilitate terrorism!

etc..etc..etc

It's the digital age, gentlemen. If a terrorist can use YouTube he can use a digital wallet. Why blame it on the Bitcoin?
That's what I think also. They use computers, cars, socks, etc. Are we going to throw out our socks now?
3784  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Death Penalty for Drug Smuggler on: January 30, 2015, 08:18:58 PM
They should have death penalties in the united states, reduces the costs we need to pay for these criminals to stay alive, not contributing anything to the society and only taking away from it. Don't know why we are wasting tens of (hundreds for some prisons) thousands of dollars per year per inmate of tax money.
Don't forget that they are providing something people want. It may not be for you, but every society does drugs. It could be a dangerous drug like alcohol or something less harmful like weed. It is even older than humanity.
We do agree that prison for drug users is a waste though.
3785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What good have you done with Bitcoin? on: January 30, 2015, 07:59:56 PM
I have donated some to charity. But you have me thinking of ways I could roll my own charitable giving. Hmm. Maybe I will give some BTC to my nieces for their next birthday?
3786  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: new to Bitcoin, something i don't get ! on: January 30, 2015, 06:51:03 PM
I don't think your lame. Your asking good questions. But, I assure you these have been asked a million times before. The main question you seem to have is "Why is bitcoin considered valuable." For me it is because of utility. Credit cards, paypal and other systems for buying online require identity to work because of their inherent insecurity. When you make a purchase it will take days to verify your identity and send payment to the store.
Bitcoin is more like cash. As soon as it's verified on the blockchain the store has money, not a promise of money... actual money.  I do not give them my identity because they don't need it and there is no way for anyone to take more BTC. For example I could give you my account and password at Overstock.com. You could see what I have bought, but there is no card info or path to any more money.

It is also a universal money that can be spent around the world. I've spent a lot of bitcoin in other countries and greatly prefer it to exchanging currencies at a loss. I could send you a million dollars worth of BTC for a few pennies. Nothing is faster, cheaper, or more secure. That is why it is my money for the internet and I almost never buy online with other methods.

Sure it's just virtual. But gold is just a shinny rock and fiat is just fancy paper. All money is just a way to represent value.
3787  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Death Penalty for Drug Smuggler on: January 30, 2015, 06:32:25 PM
Drug laws are like nudity laws. They come from people who think they should decide how I should live. They make no sense at all. That is why I can watch 20 sadistic murders on TV each night while drunk to the point of death. But I can't smoke a harmless weed or see a nipple on TV. It's mind control and the freedom to explore new ideas could lead to change. OMG, not change!
3788  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-01-29] McDonald’s might start accepting Bitcoin soon on: January 30, 2015, 05:26:50 PM
false bullshit news.

But look at the ironclad source:
"There are many rumors being spread regarding McDonald’s possibly accepting bitcoin soon."

That many rumors can't be wrong.

2014 - Hottest year yet recorded.

... Recorded by the same people in charge of those adjusted charts? Got it.

Those people are climate scientists.

3791  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are you ready to send your IDs to verify an account on a bitcoin Exchange on: January 30, 2015, 04:30:00 PM
Why do you think if an exchange doesn't ask for KYC it evades the law? For instance if you deposit money to the exchange though the payment system, this payment system is responsible for checking the client. That is the question - should an exchange ask for KYC on its own or delegate this process to the partner payment system

In the US there are laws that require an exchange to keep records that make it hard to launder money. I don't know the answer to your question, but it is a good question to ask and may help some exchanges to have some flexibility.
3792  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Death Penalty for Drug Smuggler on: January 30, 2015, 03:37:56 PM
Drugs are not so dangerous compared to anti-drug crusaders. Those people will actually kill you... to protect you from drugs.  Shocked
3793  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are you ready to send your IDs to verify an account on a bitcoin Exchange on: January 30, 2015, 03:01:20 PM
The problem for me is that it is hard to trust an exchange that does not comply with AML/KYC laws. Any such exchange may decide to not follow the laws about giving me my money back either. And if they are operating illegally then they likely have an exit plan. One that involves your money and a passport.

There is almost no correlation between the compliance with KYC and Exchange reliability. Take for example Mtgox that asked for documentation and btc-e that almost dont do that

Sure. The most trustworthy people could be behind a darknet exchange and if Bank of America got involved they could be a legally compliant criminal enterprise. But an exchange that tries evading the law will not last forever and when it falls apart you will have little recourse to recover any funds. It may be hard in any case, but the judge is not going to award you money you were using to evade taxes.

Somewhere I have a bunch of mods I made for Red Alert back years ago. I wasted a lot of hours dialing-up my friends for a game.
3797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many of you still believe bitcoin will free you from paying tax one day? on: January 29, 2015, 06:34:22 PM
There is no such thing as tax free capitol gains. This was never actually on the table.
3798  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sent 20 BTC by mistake. Please help. on: January 28, 2015, 08:42:14 PM
Your only option is to try to find out who owns the address they were sent to and ask them to send the BTC back.

He knows that, it's cloudmining.website, a some would say dubious cloud mining operation.
They don't disagree that they have the coin and say that management will make a decision in the next 24 hours.

  http://forum.cloudmining.website/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42&p=187#p187

I thought so also. But then he asked me this question.

...As I can see, you are a member of Bitcoin Foundation. Can you please help me to expedite the process of getting the coins back ?
3799  Economy / Speculation / Re: $100 to $125 still possible? on: January 28, 2015, 08:22:45 PM
Re-read my post. I said buy pressure when and if we get closer to those prices...not at the current moment. How can you know there won't be more buying if we reach extremely low prices?

Because the economy is dying, the few bulls left just got killed by the winkelvii and coinbase...
Sure, bears can become bulls, but it requires working fundamentals, which are completely lacking here..
You mean because you are better at guessing the future?
3800  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sent 20 BTC by mistake. Please help. on: January 28, 2015, 08:16:49 PM
OP, we all would like to know where you got these coins from. We can see where they came from, can you tell us who?

As I said, my friends told me the price will rise and hence I bought the coins. One of my roomie knew a local guy who sell bitcoin at lower than market rate. We went to his place, handed over the cash and within one hour the coins came to my address.

Now, the problem is price went up and now it is falling down. All my friends want me to sell the coins as we had a condition on 20 BTC. If we make profit on 20 BTC, we will share that and if we lose, we will share that as well. They could not pay at that time as they did not have the money. Now, the coins are out of my hand and they think I have sold the coins without telling them. As I can see, you are a member of Bitcoin Foundation. Can you please help me to expedite the process of getting the coins back ?

I'm afraid they will be of no use. The role of the Bitcoin Foundation is often misunderstood. That org tries to lobby against over regulation and influence public policy. But it has no more authority over bitcoin than you do. There is nothing anyone can do to reverse a transaction. Transactions are strictly one way. Your only option is to try to find out who owns the address they were sent to and ask them to send the BTC back.
