381  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any Legit Sites To Earn Free Bitcoins on: June 23, 2016, 12:47:56 PM
Go to faucets, make accounts, make active referrals, enjoy bitcoins.
Else, you can do signature campaigns and get nice rewards for the same.

Getting referrals for faucets is really a tough job these days as no one is interested in faucets anymore because everyone knows that it is just a waste of time in long run, so they are just moving to other methods of collecting bitcoins rather than wasting their time on faucets.
There are still many people using bitcoin faucets, especially newbies, who are starting from scratch. But it's realy hard to get many referrals, because there are many faucet list and rotators on the net, actualy  I think more than existing faucets.

I think there are less and less using faucets.  Most when I think do it then within a day or two realize how horrible pay rate is, and  stop using them.  They see they don't win the "jackpot" mentioned on them they get low value dust payments.   And some use to get a little free to  play with.  But both I think  are not continued users of faucets.  You will have a hard time finding someone who sticks with using faucets.

Now getting referrals is very hard not to mention on faucets. I have trouble posting  a referral link to a faucet knowing others would be wasting time, and I would not do faucet's myself even.   But even if you were willing to try to spread referral links you are competing with people who already have a base of users which is going to be hard to go up against.  Not to mention new way is to do a "faucet rotator" instead of individual referral links.
382  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Community brainpan - please discuss and debate desirable features for a miner on: June 23, 2016, 12:40:20 PM
Yes Kano, Icarus does suck and I'd never use it for anything more than a single-chip stick miner. It worked for the BM1384 Compac that most everything was already in there, but any new Compacs and of course any full-scale miners will have proper drivers and control. I don't really understand most of the next thing you said but that's a "yet" - I don't understand it yet but know that I'll be spending a lot of time on that suggestion post and making sure the software people do too.

Phil - what's been requested is a 10TH miner, so if the assumption is current-gen chips in the 0.1J/GH neighborhood, then the assumption is 1KW at stock settings. Yes that's twice what I'd like, but yes it will be adjustable for undervolting/underclocking and yes the boards will be independent.

NotFuzzy - I get now what you were saying about control over TCP/IP. However, if all the miners are on a private network and your controller acts as a bridge, you'd need a controller with dual NICs. That rules out a lot of devboard computers like the Pi, and even most desktops that don't have a second NIC installed by the owner. If you wanted a single control machine to be able to handle n independent trees of miners, you'd have to build a computer with at least n+1 NICs. Am I understanding that right?

I personally don't mind  the 1KW area.  What I want is the best bang for my buck, and if you are able to get it cheaper by having more chips/power on each miner I would rather have that then  a quiet low power unit that is more expensive on hash.

This is the opinion of someone with a mining area where sound/electricity is not an issue.    So really 1KW area does not bother me, my two main wants are power efficient and low price.
383  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 - Melted control cable on one blade on: June 23, 2016, 12:20:23 PM
Thanks for the help,

This is what I have emailed them after them being rude and dismissive

Quote
I know you state that no burnt parts are covered under warranty, but how can a defective item NOT be covered under warranty?

I have spent a lot of money with you over the past few years, I think you should send me a new control board and cable under warranty.

This is not a fault of myself, only a manufacturing fault with either the hashboard or the controller.

The controller has over volted and melted the cable, nearly causing a fire.

Please consider sending out a controller board and cable to me under warranty, I feel it is your responsibility with a faulty product that almost caused a fire!

I have also emailed Bitmain Warranty, they were helpful before in sending out new blade for S3.

I have bought 32+ S3's, 2 C1's, 30 odd S1's and now 3 S7's.

I think the least they could do is send out replacement parts for a 2 week old unit that melted due to their own manufacturing issues!!

As far as getting a replacement part under warranty with  ordering https://bitmaintech.com they are going to have final say.  So you can go back and forth and get lucky but with warranty worded how it is I'm not sure on that.  I was afraid of that happening that is why I mentioned it above - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1522621.msg15321898#msg15321898 .

BitmainWarranty are great as mentioned before but it will be paying  for repairs since it was not ordered from them which means not under their warranty.   If you order from them in future though you do get better service if you need warranty work.   So a little more up front but it really can save you from down mining time, and less hassle on warranty work.
384  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: bitcoin mining profit calculator on: June 23, 2016, 05:32:03 AM
I would love to know what is the most accurate sites to calculate bitcoin mining profit.
I have checked may sites and enter same numbers yet profit does not match.
For example for s9 I enter following information.Since halving is close I calculate the reward as 12.5
According to coin warz
Hash Rate : 12900
Power Cost:0.10 cents
Power:1275 W+10%=
Pool fees: 2%
Block Reward: 12.5
Hardware cost: 2100+ power supply+ shipping to Canada=Around 2700 usd
Bitcoin price:670 usd
My profit after 1 year:2817 usd

If difficulty stay same or increase little, and bitcoin price stay same  I will be break even after a year.
Let me know if Iam making a mistake or forgetting something else to include.

Coinwarz is good for current period is about it, you can't really easily change difficulty so that makes it harder for future mining profits unless you take the numbers to excel or something.  I would suggest taking a look at - https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator .  It's going to have a lot more you can enter in getting more accurate info  on cost's and what percentage change will do.

There is still speculation as part of it though as we will never be able to say know the next month or two will do on difficulty or price.  So more accurate yes.  But perfect no due to having to use speculation.

Hey all! hard life with 2jobs...
1k?! goes under 600, maybe even 500atm!

It has definitely taken a tumble which are not quite as fun to watch.  In a single day we have went from high 660' to a low of 551.  So a huge drop and a lot of people sold making it continue to drop.  I like charts and there is one of my favorite here - http://www.coindesk.com/price/

We are a little more stable going up to  576 on coinbase.   But it's still very volitale  so hard to say what will happen in next 12-24 hours.  I hope up but who  knows.

It is a server PSU.

Here are pics

(pics above)

Interesting I was expecting to see on PCIE slots not on cable there.  What is the brand/model server PSU you were using?   Server PSU does not really tell a lot.

Hopefully I did a decent job explaining on warranty.  Which site did you purchase the miner from?

I have never seen a picture like that.

the pcie slots are not burnt.

looks like he had a bad cable control cable.

his best bet is to contact bitmain warranty

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=383527

https://bitmainwarranty.com/

USA based  and you will be charged money but the bitmaintech warranty is worse since shipping it to china is too much coin.

I mentioned them above -  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1522621.msg15321898#msg15321898 as they do have great customer service and quicker with being in US.  In future if you purchase from BitmainWarranty you actually get your warranty work done in US when under warranty vs standard channel and having to ship to China (and you have a number to call if you prefer).

As phil mentioned you can talk to them as they really are great on customer service just know in advance you do not get warranty work from BitmainWarranty if you purchased from standard bitmain store. You must purchase unit from BitmainWarranty for them to cover warranty work. You can ask what they think though as I also have not seen this so not sure how much it would cost for repair.  So I have no idea what cost of repair would be vs sending it to standard channel if still under warranty there as you mentioned OP.
388  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is the best trusted website to earn btc? on: June 22, 2016, 05:13:41 PM
This forum is the best if you ask me, because you will get loads of ideas here on how to make it, but few may charge you as there are methods with which bitcoins can be earned.

Instead of trying to find a website elsewhere, why don't you just buy and hold them?
Yeah buying bitcoins now is a good idea because we can see that the bitcoin price decrease a little bit so i think that it's the opportunity to buy some bitcoin and hold them for incoming halving because i'm sure that after halving the price of the bitcoin will increase a bit more.

Yes its good time to buy now as price is on decline mode, so if you want to invest then this is the right time to do it as price will go upwards at the time of halving.

That is speculation to on price going upwards.  We hope to see it with having as it would be nice to not go in decline anymore.  But it is not a sure bet.   You can still lose money if BTC value went down after having.

We have seen in past coin value can drop look at day's from 1K ish and it sunk.  Those people did not expect to have a loss.   So I hope and think we will see value go up more before and after having but it is in no way a sure thing.
389  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get 1 btc? on: June 22, 2016, 05:10:25 PM
You could always buy some here!

This is also a nice list of BTC faucets

Also, be sure to check out The Viral Exchange where you can earn BTC by following and completing actions on social networking sites.

I removed it in my quote but you are not allowed post just referral link.  Your coinbase not only had referral link but hid it so people did not realize link was a referral.  For others where you see "here" it is actually a link of https://www.coinbase.com/join/(his referral id here) .

I suggest removing it ... and not trying to hide them in future.
390  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pay Per Post on: June 22, 2016, 05:07:12 PM
the only way to get free bitcoin is to join a signature campaign.

It's not free. You have to spend a lot of time spamming Bitcointalk. It is more like a low-paying job.

I would not say spamming, although some sadly do go to that level.  Most see signature campaigns and think it's a quick buck to be made.  They  don't realize how much time you spend on site before you really can help others.  You have to see a issue before.... to help it in future.  For example I try to help out in hardware.  This is since I enjoy miners and troubleshooting.  But it took me a LOT of time to become proficient at it.

So what ever you are doing on forum you really have a good amount of time invested before you ever help other's with substantial posts.   Also the post's are not quick in many cases.  One liners/crap like "thanks!", etc get's you banned if you have a signature.  I spend a decent amount off time on each post.  Also people don't realize  this but I also sometimes get a post out.... am not happy with quality so I delete it.  Does not happen a ton but I have a certain level I want on my posts or I would rather not have them up even.

But I see signatures as a way to make extra money.   Some see it as a job... I think those are usually the ones who end up in trouble.
391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: please give your best advice for newbie? on: June 22, 2016, 05:02:26 PM
Yeah i agree to those previous replies although all of the replies are correct .but the best advice for me is reaeing first and asking how ,what to do ,and when . Reading and making some research and by asking questions is the very first thing you need to do .

Also don't invest if someone told you it worth it  .inspect and ask some bitcoiners too .don't take risk if your'e not so sure about that site, link or any that can be a start down for you to do bitcoins.

Along the lines of this when someone tells you about a great investment check and make sure there is not a referral link they use.  People are not suppose to sneak referral links but some do try it.  There is a good chance if someone say's hey I have this awsome investment.... just use my referral link!   Ask yourself if it is so great why are they sharing it and not investing more thierself?  Also if making so much why do they need referrals?  In most cases it is they are trying to make a quick buck off of you.

Also on altcoin investments be careful to as a lot are pump/dump.  They can even make some sound good in threads but the actual truth is they are horrible coins.   Really only alt I personally am interested right now in is Ether.   But again do your own research on it as I don't want to push my view on someone else's investment.

Just ordered one. Wondering what power supplies people are using in the states?

Thanks guys!

I suspect that the bitmaintech psu is just a tiny bit short to run an s-9

it does need 210 or more volts so if in USA you need correct voltage wires.

now if you are looking for an ATX 120 volt option EVGA has them  but they are costly

How many of the Bitmain APW3's have you tried out? Through my testing I have 1 remote connected to a APW3 and one now at my place connected to an APW3 and not having issues with them.

What way are you testing the APW3 to determine they are coming up short?  I have been testing by running the units with them so wanted to what tests you were using to get this. Just trying to compare as we seem to be getting different results.

I have personally purchased and have been using 30 of the Bitmain PSUs with no issues so far.  The rest of my miners have been on rental PSUs.  I would say that over the time of 9 months is a very good track record.

I too have had good luck with the APW3 PSUs.  I've had 20 of them over the past.  I currently have 10 of them connected to a relay/raspi setup to remotely power cycle the miners.  I'm using a combo of wiringpi and webiopi.  Working very well.

And re-reading through it I want to make sure it is known I am not meaning to come across rude with questions, I hate that email/posts don't show emotion like talking.

I just have had a good experience with APW3's in past with S7's and now with two S9's.   So I would hate for people to start thinking APW3's are coming up short when in fact many of us are having good luck with them.   And considering the S9 was designed to run off of them and is recommended PSU I think it should not come up short.

Again my testing is done by running 2 S9's off APW3's.  If someone has done a test with them showing and ran into problems specifically with APW3 please share it, I just have not seen real test's showing it.  I am just one person so I realize small scale test,  but I have not had any issues with them.

One of my three S7's stopped hashing (could still access GUI)

Upon looking the controller cable from blade 1 to the control board has melted.

Anyone else had something similar?

It's still under warranty.

It won't has now, did did show the other two blades were ok but no hashing.

Will get some pics up later

Who's the best contact for warranty, think I used someone in the US last time I had a faulty S3 blade who was very quick and helpful.

What PSU are you using?   Just checking as if cheap PSU or something it can void warranty:
3. In some cases, the warranty will be void, but Bitmain can still do repairs at your own expense if requested. The following events will void the warranty:

     a. Customer removes/replaces any components by himself without receiving permission from Bitmain first;

     b. Damage caused by poor power supply, lightning or voltage surges;

     c. Burnt parts on hash boards or chips;

     d. Miner/boards/components damage due to water immersion or corrosion due to wet environment.

For warranty work it is decided by who you purchased from, on who you can send it to:

It sounds like you ordered from Bitmaintech.com  you will need to email Bitmain - info@bitmaintech.com and ask about a RMA.   If you buy from them warranty work is done in China.

The US site you mentioned is BitmainWarranty.com .  They do a great job on warranty work but you must purchase the unit from them to get warranty work done there. If you were out of warranty you could pay for repair services and use them which is great option if in US.

12.76 BTC gone. I'll be looking for these guys and I have the money to do it.Time for some fun. 😉

I tried to warn people a decent amount in this thread.   At this point pre-orderig from someone just is not a good idea we have seen TON"s of bad companies use it.  What got me was they really only realeased 2 miners both using other's chips.   On BTC side Apollo (BTC machine), and on scrypt (Ares).  The Ares was literally split with other companies with 2 other companies I believe.   Hashcoins slapped a sticker on it and it was was exact same miner as others sold but at a higher cost.

But the big warning sign should have been Zeus model they showed it like they produced it and moved on to newer ore efficient models.  But there was not a single Zeus that ever was shown on board (I suspect not a single one was made).   After failing to make a product they moved to Uranus miner which again... suspect not a single one was made.  And at this point even if they made them the S9 blows even the Uranus fake stats.

But sorry to hear you lost coins.  They have added cloudmining if anyone is reading/researching Hashcoins you SHOULD NOT invest in their cloud.
396  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Can i place a S7 miner in a normal fridge or freezer to cool it down in silence on: June 22, 2016, 04:11:59 PM
Hi,

i am new into mining and now since the mining is more profitable i was thinking to start mining in my apartment but i don't want it to be noisy and since the electricity price here is 0.04USD per KWH.

so it is not a problem to put a normal size fridge or freezer and place 2-3 S7 miners and drill cables out. Would my idea work ? or is there a another solution that can cool it down or at least make it less noisy since i am planing to get 8 miners in the future.

i have also read that "electronics do not like any type of moisture whatsoever." and the only way to make it quite is to " turn down fan speed and under clock it"
but will it still be as efficient ?

Please advice me

Thank You.

No this is not the way to go.  What you read about moisture is pretty true, if you get moisture in miners overtime it really can have bad effects up to killing the miner.  This is getting old at this point but here is what moisture ad corrosion can do to a miner: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg11018389#msg11018389   So not good at all on that front.

I would look for a area that noise is not a issue or you can find a way to lesson noise with how some try making boxes with a little more noise damping.  But if you are running 8 of them finding a area where heat and noise is ok would be best.  That is just a good amount of power/heat when getting into that amount of electricity with miners.  What is area like your planing on putting 8 miners?

the s-7 uses 50 to 80 watts less then the s-9.

many symptoms described on the s-9 were lessened by down clocking  freq just a bit.  all anecdotal info.

all your 30 plus are on s-7 correct? how many are on the s-9.

mind you if you have climate control for you psu's (i.e. ambient under 80f)  you will get better results.

a psu right at its real world limit will be aid by a cooler temp.

And as I said i am basing all info on what I read here.  as I do not have a single antminer psu.

this graph clearly shows high ambient temps will hurt the antimatter psu.

a 5c temp shift drops amps from 133 to 117.

and if you really look at the temp graph the temp scaling is deceptive.

look at 20 c look at 50 c  then look at 55 c   it is not scaled correctly.

to the point that it is done to deceive your eyes.

(graph above)

I have also had good luck with the APW3's by bitmain.   I am testing by using them by running S9's and having no issues there.  One is a older one that ran a S7 for quite a while and now is powering a S9 and again not any issues.

I would hold off on saying it comes up  short personally.   I just have not experienced this and I realize I'm one person but at this point I have used 2 separate S9's and 2 APW3's.   So I would get some test's with hand's on them before deciding that the APW3's are coming up short.  And I'm just one person so I cannot speak for everyone but they seem to work for me fine.

If you're still trying to decide upon a pool I would recommend Slush's Pool. That's who I've been with since I started mining mainly because they had the best guide for beginners I could find.

Any regular pool is pretty easy to set up.  First big difference is some require registration some you just enter BTC address, but this info can always be found in FAQ of the pool.  A big thing is deciding if you can go long term with a PPLNS type and handle luck being part of it or if you need a PPS option.  Here is a good list with payment types - https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_mining_pools

If you want a idea for how big/popular a pool is you can check out amount of blocks being mined by it - https://blockchain.info/pools

If you give us you're electricity we can give you a decent idea.  But keep in mind having is close so this will effect your profitability.  Also as post above mentions using a ROI calculator is not a bad idea I personally like - https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator .

When you give us your electricity make sure all fee's and taxes are in your KWH price.

is it a easy way to get one bitcoin for free Huh
i'm just wondering.

no, it's not easy. especially if you want to do it for free. but if you have an account with a high rank and joined the signature campaign, it will be a little easier. because you can get at least 015BTC/month, then when you have a 0.15BTC you can grow it in trade or other ways.
Yes that is a good suggestion as of now signature campaign is the best and popular way to earn fast bitcoin. That is right we can earn up to 0.15 per month and i think that it is a good amount to start doing some trading altcoins because he can buy many altcoins for that amount and he can also grow his bitcoin by trading fast like in just few days or weeks.

I'm not sure I would say signature campaigns are fast.  To do it right you have a lot of time to join the forum and learn before you are able to help other people.  A LOT anymore try to just jump into signature campaigns with a mission of having lot's of posts.  It ends up with low quality posts and with a signature ultimately a ban.

Not to mention amount of time posting good post's adds up.  I spend a lot of time  on this site so signature campaign works great, but I'm here a lot (would be with or without signature I was Hero before even joining one). But it does add up over time if done right, I suggest don't jump in wait till full member then look at it.  Also altcoins are whole different beast. So when new or just beginning holding the BTC is not a bad thing you might not gain more BTC but you can gain fiat value just holding.
