382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's the best hash algorithm? on: April 26, 2014, 10:23:06 AM
For sha-1, weaknesses have been found so I wouldn't pick it as the best.

You can pick anyone of the rest as the best, depending on your goals.
383  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any BTC bank? on: April 26, 2014, 10:07:35 AM
If BTC or any cryptos take off, of course banks will accept them! Just a matter of time.
The banks dont want to loose out.

But we don't need to have banks in bitcoin. I don't think many people will deposit their bitcoin in a bank, especially after all these hacks and scams.
384  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin safety on: April 26, 2014, 10:04:29 AM
You can buy it on Coinbase or Bitstamp or localbitcoins, but it is better to store your bitcoin on a paper wallet rather than on the exchanges.
385  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin 2.0 on: April 26, 2014, 10:01:53 AM
For a Bitcoin 2.0 to actually work it has to offer functionality unavailable in the current reference implementation - and if it's big enough Bitcoin will adopt the idea anyway.

I doubt if bitcoin will really adopt a new idea, as it willl lead to a hard fork and make things messy.
386  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please HELP on: April 26, 2014, 09:44:19 AM
Sorry to hear the loss, but as persons above explained, it will be hard for you to get back the bitcoin.

Has the problem been solved now?
If not, try to send a support ticket at https://blockchain.zendesk.com/home Smiley
388  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Safe way to buy Bitcoins? on: April 26, 2014, 09:38:19 AM
Safest way is using a Bitcoin ATM IMO.

The problem is not many people can find a bitcoin ATM near them. Smiley
389  Other / Meta / Re: Using an Avatar for my profile on: April 26, 2014, 09:32:23 AM
The avatars arent back ever since the 1st time bitcointalk have been hacked.

Its been at least like a 1 year since that happened like someone mentioned.

But, yeah its sucks what can you do? nothing..
I read from sources that it was only disabled after the recent hack. Is it true?

IIRC, the feature should be disabled since 2013 after a hack.
390  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recommend a miner hardware for beginner on: April 26, 2014, 09:29:22 AM
I don't know a lot about miners but I decided not to go with GPU, I've heard about ASIC miners and company butterfly labs but they are too expensive for my budget, are there any other companies that make ASIC miners with similar hash rate but lower price (something normal)?

You can hardly break even with the ASICs. You can check it yourself with any profit calculator. Smiley
391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining? on: April 26, 2014, 09:15:47 AM
What about GPU mining ASIC-resistent (scrypt-n for example) altcoins?
392  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Making bitcoins online on: April 26, 2014, 09:10:34 AM
I want to work online and earn bit coins with it.
Is there a way to do this.

If you have some skills, you can provide services for bitcoin.

393  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: April 26, 2014, 09:04:12 AM
BTC-e is a good exchange, I like the deposit and withdrawal options

But, why BTC-e owners are so secretive ?

Probably the same reason as Satoshi Smiley
394  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: New faucet on: April 26, 2014, 09:01:21 AM
faucet says to remove adblock

Not really surprising. The faucets site owners earn from the ad, and pays the visitors a tiny proportion of the ad revenue.
395  Other / Meta / Re: Time to bring back avatars on: April 26, 2014, 08:53:43 AM
Why would a small image be this important to you? It doesn't really mean anything.
Eventually the feature will be brought back.

Think it won't be brought back till the new forum appears

IIRC, we need to wait for at least a year for the new forum.

397  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Safe way to buy Bitcoins? on: April 24, 2014, 07:21:04 PM
I would recommend never using PayPal or considering an offer at a low rate. It is a drag, but you should either use localbitcoins or research exchanges in your country then fund your account with a USPS money order. Then, after executing a buy, withdraw your bitcoin right away. If you do not have total control of your private keys then you do not own any bitcoin. An exchange could close anytime and leave you Satoshi-less.

Why wouldn't you use paypal to buy ? I understand why wouldn't you sell, but I don't see the harm in buying.
No, it is because trading bitcoin is against their TOS. I don't trust them to do the right thing in a dispute since I would be operating outside of their rules.

+1. Paypal can ban your account for that reason.

Hello.

It is really exciting to be here. I've heard of bitcoin for a few years now and finally decided I should take the first step so here I am now. Hopefully I can buy my first bitcoin from one of you folks within the next couple days.

Cheers!!!

Welcome.
You can find some bitcoin trades here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0, but you need to be careful with scams. Wink
