382  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Iphone/Android Bitcoin Client... the hurdles? on: September 18, 2012, 12:52:18 PM
i would recommend releasing a bitcoin iphone app only for one country where you are quite certain about jurisdictions (germany, finland) because the local agencies have already commented positively

(the lobster is still moving everytime someone mentions keynesian economics)
do you give him a stimulus package?
384  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Security 'expert' clams bitcoin vulnerability. Presenting at Ekoparty Conf. on: September 17, 2012, 10:06:39 PM
i would guess he is disclosing

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Common_Vulnerabilities_and_Exposures#CVE-2012-3789

which is fixed in all recent versions of bitcoin. since he disclosed it responsibly and it has been fixed i do not mind that he now takes credit for his discovery publicly.

386  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Hackathon Location; in search for a place to get together tomorrow,13th on: September 13, 2012, 08:10:26 AM
No. three of us showed up to the meeting location, so we decided to move to the cafe.
it is at leicester square station at st. martins lane opposite of number 77. we are right now having breakfast and will be moving upstairs soon.
387  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Hackathon Location; in search for a place to get together tomorrow,13th on: September 12, 2012, 10:51:19 PM
thanks for the reply. i propose we meet at king's cross at 8:30 to make the final decision. at the exit at king's cross right outside the megaro hotel/burger king. the locations are just a few minutes apart via subway but if we take the hotel we should be there on time.

you can take a look at the precise location here in street view:
http://goo.gl/maps/KpGDU

i can sponsor a little extra too, since i got a donation for the video after the last hackathon..
388  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Hackathon Location; in search for a place to get together tomorrow,13th on: September 12, 2012, 08:06:31 PM
please comment soon so we can come to a conclusion in a reasonable timeframe and a location where we meet tomorrow. if we take either of those two locations we should meet quite early.

personally i would be fine with either of those locations. the cafe is free but maybe not as convinient. the hotel would cost 31,25 pounds per person and we have a more professional environment.

a very nice conference room at megaro hotel near kings cross.

they have dedicated wi-fi, power, projector, quiet room. it would cost 150 pounds for one day or 250 for two days. we could stay from the morning to 11 in the evening. also they have a restaurant attached.

Our stroke of bad luck continues.
I just checked the Mozilla Location and they are closed down totally (the lady at the reception told me)

So our options for tomorrow are:
Get an official slot at the London Hackspace
the tourist agency recommended to us:
Pubs have sometimes larger rooms willing to give away during the day if we consume something
get a conferernce room at a hotel

pascal and i will do a pubcrawl looking for a possibility.

if you know any place in london for up to 9 bitcoin people who want to code for a day and maybe a halv please let us know.
392  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Going after Trendon Shavers, Pirateat40, BTCST on: September 10, 2012, 06:18:48 AM
maybe worth a try:
there is http://www.zeekrewardsreceivership.com/
which claims that there is a lawyer collecting claims. i'd say you can express the suspicion that he was a passthrough to zeek.

from the lawer's pdf:
Quote
I encourage those affected to email
questions as well as relevant account information to info@zeekrewardsreceivership.com.
There, every message received will be read and catalogued. An official claim form will
also soon be made available on this site and each filed claim will be considered at the
time the assets are allocated back to the victims.

394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how could bitcoin work with NFC? on: September 09, 2012, 01:28:37 PM
looking at your screen while aiming at a QR code look makes you look like a nerd.
best reason for nfc  Grin

i think there will be a very good use case for bitcoin+nfc since it is basically a very ad-hoc data network. it could work with two "contacts"

first sends payment request, user takes phone authorizes it,
second nfc sends the transaction directly. (so offline TX are possible)

or alternativly: user pre-authorizes nfc (by pressing a allow max 1/10/100 btc to be transferred) then phone+POS exchange all the information needed, exact amount, address, transaction.
395  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Unofficial attendance list - Bitcoin London 2012 on: September 05, 2012, 11:27:57 PM
how many casascius coins will you bring? we are looking to get about ~150 there for a reasonable "bulk" rate.
396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Entire World Just Found Out about Bitcoin! on: September 05, 2012, 11:23:03 PM
except that 1 USB stick each was delivered to the Rep and Dem party offices.

do you consider that fact any indication that someone obtained those documents?
397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Entire World Just Found Out about Bitcoin! on: September 05, 2012, 11:18:14 PM
why is everybody making such an overblown story from that? anyone with a brain can figure out the following things: (crosspost from g+)

just by skimming the text at http://pastebin.com/1j1yzQ9S , i think of the following indications why its a hoax:

1 - anyone could have written this text on pastebin. there is zero proof  somone got their hands on any document at PwC

2 - the way the document is written is in a very emotional way and trys to provoke back and forth.

3 - it would be much more effective to privately contact romney/PwC for extortion. if they would pay the way described it would be a gigantic media blowout against romney so they have no choice as to ignore it or try to settle without bitcoin (anyone can observe what is paid on the given address)

4 - the payment instructions are somewhat ambigously defined, if it was real i would expect a round bitcoin amount.

5 - if real, they would have provided some real proof and details, like document ids, filenames, paths, or some details from the documents.

6 -if he is trying to show his insight into internal PwC ongoings, why is he quoting the receptionist number? i would reference the phone extension closest to the original physical storage location of the documents (either IT or a specialist department)

7- the last two lines which should appear as some sort of "proof" are deliberatly chosen to make fun of his momonism (is that the P.C. term?) again, just provoking.

looks like a useful application.

can you elaborate a bit how this is integrated into the bitcoin ecosystem?
