I have started a discussion about some CannaCoin fundraising... We didn't focus on doing this type of project early on as we knew the CannaCoin project was a long-term project.  I think it's about time we start thinking about how we can allocate some value in the network to help some folks in the WA medical community https://nwgt.org/showthread.php?21505-CannaCoin-fundraising

Could someone bring the wallet identifier issue to DeltaNine's attention?  It's a little ridiculous at this point that you guys aren't dealing with this.  The CANN protocol needs fixing through either a hard fork or a buy back because of this.

you better hardfork your coin or there might be problems since cann is definitely the bigger and miore significant one.

Why do you keep coming back to this forum with your crap , the only thing I remember from you the last weeks is constantly reading your fud while your own coin was slowly dying.

Also I do not understand why this wallet thing is even a problem ...

Quite a few people have already lost coins by sending coins to the wrong wallet.  Do you want CANN investors to lose their money ?

Altcoins are supposed to disappear, Rubycoin just keeps coming back for more!

This is strange, you don't see that kind of dedication very often, but I like it.

I'm in.

rubycoin is a great coin... great coins take dedication and commitment...  let's be clear about something here... this is a top-notch developer and most coins would die to have such a talented dev. kassado has made bigger contributions to crypto development than most people realize... thanks man!

OMG , PLEASE NOT reddcoin POSV , its the WORST POS of them all, pick ANYTHING but that. PLEASE!!

Vegas

I am curious why you would say that.  It's been very successful for the Reddcoin network... which boasts a massive number of nodes as a result of POSV.   There's plenty of opportunity to improve the protocol after the hardfork.

Reddcoin has one of the most impressive githubs of all the altcoins and is the only coin to successfully hardfork from litecoin PoW to proof-of-stake.

It is the perfect protocol for a coin that has been mined as long as Cannacoin.

Thanks for your input, but we are well on our way already.

Thanks for your patience everyone.  Four of us from the CCN team are working around the clock to figure out some of the last issues with the source code on the POSV transition right now.  Since the only coin that has done a successful hardfork from litecoin PoW to POSV is Reddcoin  there is just not a lot of people out there to help us. We are reaching out to the greater Bitcoin development community and the core dev from Reddcoin and Shibecoin to get some help to get past this last hurdle.    It's not easy to go through all this code and get it working properly.  We are going through and comparing 3 different githubs and looking through all the code, recompiling, and testing.  The good news is that we have narrowed things down quite a bit.  There is really only one thing left to get working properly. We are also going to be much better developers because of this.

I hope to have the best news possible very soon.  I've pointed my miners at Solarcoin to help secure your network for the time being.

*edit* special thanks to Kassado from Rubycoin for his help as well

Just wondering if there is a tentative date for the Reddcoin PosV rollout... no rush... just asking... thanks!

At the moment, we are still testing the wallet staking and doing code review.  The blockchain syncs perfectly with the Reddcoin codebase and we have tested transactions.

We haven't picked a POW block number to switch over to yet... we'd like to have the new wallets compiled no later than 10 days from now, but right now we're still focused on checking all the code.  We also reached out to the reddcoin devs to see if they are interested in looking through the code as well.

Cheers

The PROBLEM is..why this wallet addres is similar..Huh

CANN CfJ3NK87PAjErUKBjwLdLSZwgdizefcjBX = CANNA CfJ3NK87PAjErUKBjwLdLSZwgdizefcjBX

soo...the DEV CANN is the DEV CANNA to..??

Whether it be by accident ..or not.. you have created a cold/offline wallet.

Use vanitygen or pay someone to bruteforce the addy. This will reveal the private key.

The private key can be dumped from CCN wallet and imported into a CANN wallet.  If the exchange holds the wallet, contact them and they should be able to get you the private key.

Nope they are not the same person. Perhaps they used the wallet code from cann, it's open source so it is here for that. But they should have modified it.

This is a big problem that should be DeltaNine's #1 priority, but he's too busy to apparently fix the protocol.

Cannacoin was launched on March 28th 2014 with the C wallet identifier two months before CannabisCoin.  When CannabisCoin launched as scrypt on April 20th 2014, it used "420" as it's ticker.  Later, the ticker was changed to CANN on May 27th with the x11 transition and they decided to use the same letter as Cannacoin for wallet identifying.  I warned that this would cause problems eventually for users and exchanges.

Option 1: It's still possible to prevent this in the future through a new CANN wallet and changing the default addresses to another letter.  The CANN wallet would still need to accept addresses with the C but new addresses could be generated with a different letter.  Over time these issues could become very rare as less people had C addresses.

Option 2: The other option is for CANN to do a coin buyback through Bittrex to fix this problem entirely.

It is my understanding that the generated coins would not be part of the network weight as long as they are in cold storage. The moment they are staked then they would be included. Saying that... What do I know!

That's correct.  Coins put into cold storage will not stake, although they do accumulate coin-age and can be staked.  If they are put into a hot wallet, they would specifically need to be staked in the wallet.  So, I don't think this is a problem.
394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: October 30, 2014, 10:10:49 PM
We've successfully forked Reddcoin POSV for Cannacoin and Solarcoin.  Transactions have been tested... next up is testing Proof-of-Stake...

Keep ya'll posted.  After this we'll need a few days to compile wallets for OSX and Windows

Exciting times, thanks for the patience.

Can you tell us what the main differences are between Reddcoin and Blackcoin? Is there any material difference between the two that we should know about?

This is the most concise explanation of Reddcoin information that I've found: http://agroff.github.io/posv/

Reddcoin has a 5% stake multiplier.  For Cannacoin we reduced this down to 1%.  I am assuming that Solarcoin also uses a 1% staking interest as well, but it is a parameter in the code that can be set.

Both Reddcoin and Blackcoin Proof-of-Stake protocols are second generation PoS implementation (V2).  Both teams wanted to have more people staking coins and thereby acting as nodes on the network.  However they also wanted to discourage hoarding.  Proof-of-stake uses your "network weight" to determine how you will be rewarded coins for staking. BC and RDD differ here a bit. They measure this weight differently in the sense of coins vs. coin-age.  In addition Reddcoin gives a bonus to newer coins through creating incentive for a person to stake coins while also encouraging people to transact with them through "velocity" or trading/moving coins.  They accomplish this by rewarding newly received coins with a higher initial interest than older staked coins.   Blackcoin does away with "coin-age" in the multiplier for staking, so you don't have to hold the coins for a certain amount of time before they are "stakeable".  Instead, you just have to wait 8 hours after the coin is in your wallet and it will begin staking as "weight".

I also recommend you read this, particularly starting at section 2.3 and down: https://www.reddcoin.com/papers/PoSV.pdf

Black coin initially forked from Peercoin and had a proof-of-work period.  The difference in some block timestamping differences between Bitcoin and Peercoin are what caused the forking issue.  Reddcoin was a fork of Litecoin originally and was scrypt mined.  That's why we were able to get the merkel root to synchronize with Cannacoin finally using Reddcoin.

An update on the transition to Proof of Stake 10/28/14:

Background: A little over a month or so ago, the CCN team proposed a few options to the community regarding protocol changes. It was decided that in order to secure our network and continue forward in the cryptocurrency space a transition to PoS would be a likely solution to the potential threats we face. Below is a quick update of where we stand today.

Since the decision was made, I personally (SubCreative) have begun a transition for proof of stake using the newly released BlackCoin PoS2.0 codebase. During past few weeks it appears that I have run into some barriers during the teams initial testing. The issue are related to transactional formats used by BlackCoin in it's proof of stake model compared to transaction formats used in our Scrypt protocol. Our team has reached out to BlackCoin and Rat4 the lead developer to ask for some advice and guidance on the situation. After our brief conversation Rat4 has suggested that in order to mitigate the transactional format barrier and problems in the future a complete transition would likely be the best option (meaning a new blockchain and buyback).

I want to open the discussion to the community for feedback and comments as well as provide a few (not limited to) options we have put together to continue forward with a move towards securing our network.

1) Investigate further using other PoS (Reddcoin etc) codebases which are originally a LTC fork which has successfully completed a hardfork to PoSV without buyback or creating a new blockchain. The Reddcoin is seen as the most likely possibility for successful Proof-of-Stake transition at this moment.  It also uses a custom "v2" of proof-of-stake. (Blackcoin is not the only alternative PoS Model, we need to investigate into these PoS models further to understand the level of changes to the protocol tx, block etc.)

2) Investigate other options such as forking Dogecoin for AUXPoW which allows merged mining between multiple coins, (Work completed on 1 chain is valid for submitting to another).  This option would open the doors for a wider network security as multiple chains are able to collaborativly secure each other. While this would certainly increase security it is not a proof-of-stake model and can act as a temporary placeholder while we continue our efforts to move towards a PoS model.

3) Open source the current Cannacoin (POS 2.0) codebase for the community in hopes that others will participate in codechanges needed to help make a direct hardfork take place instead of a reset/buyback.

4) ...? Open for discussion, the team has choosen not to include the buyback in our likely scenarios as we feel it is against the model of crypto currency and leaves too many opportunities for lost or unclaimed coins as well as a lack of transparency from one chain to another as the old scrypt chain dies over time.

I will refrain from posting my input or opinions until I hear some feedback from the community. I strongly believe it's important this information be public and that our community is the deciding factor in this move forward. Basically I don't wan't my suggestion or opinions to sway yours just because I'm a dev, this is about the future of our community and network and all voices are important. As always if you have any futher options or suggestions, please put them on the table. If you are a developer interested in participating in the project, we're a small team here and we could use all the extra hands we can get, please contact us at team@cannacoin.cc

Over the coming days I will be continuing to reach out to my colleagues in the crypto space and move forward with my investigation, testing and build change efforts while we as a community discuss. If I have any new details to bring to light I will do so asap. For now I just wanted to provide some info on where things are as of right now.

-SubCreative

I personally am super thankful for the hard work you've put in for Cannacoin and Solarcoin to bring about a transition.

We are in a transition phase and there's a lot of great development out there, and we are going to be a part of the future no matter what.

I would vote for looking into the Reddcoin codebase to implement Proof-of-Stake.  In addition, I also think that Dogecoin AuxPOW is a fantastic idea to secure the network.

Temporarily moving us to Dogecoin for merge mining would put us in a very strong position going forward as well.

Our ultimate goal should be proof-of-stake, and since proof-of-stake is still very experimental, I don't think being in a hurry is necessary.  However, we should urgently look at getting our network secured and we can achieve that with merge mining.

397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation on: October 26, 2014, 08:27:03 PM
Cryptopoolmining seems down? I can't access the site... so I switched my NiceHash contract to Mining Pool Hub. I figured I'd point this out and see if anybody knows what's going on with it. I did tweet them but haven't gotten a response.

Yes Nice/West Hash have been down for a while now.  I have gone back to solo mining for the last 3 days of SLR mining.  With difficulties down in the 10's that is practical; and I do not expect any great hash numbers appearing with the reward at 6 SLR.

It gave me an opportunity to get the new wallet (1.5) sorted out on my little solar powered rig, so that it can then stay open 24/7 - even when I shut down the gridseeds, because they don't earn their lunch in practical terms anymore.

I can recycle the heatsinks and fans....  Sad

Mining will continue until the new wallet gets released. We don't know yet at which block the proof of stake hard fork will take place.

The price of SLR is definitely on an upward trend, which should help bring in more hashing power.  Keep up the good work guys.

Also, considering the size of your generator pool, it might be a good idea to scale your payments in the beginning.  In other words, maybe paying out 1 coin per KW/h of generation for the first 3 months, then .5 coins per kw/h, and down over time.  This would give incentive to early adopters.  The current 1 SLR per MW/h isn't much.

Just a thought/suggestion from reading through the specs.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: October 25, 2014, 07:00:13 PM
Is there going to be a new wallet available to download when we shift to PoS? If so, when will it be available?

Yes, users will need to download a new wallet to begin staking. We're hoping to receive the new code and wallets from the CCN devs soon. Unfortunately we don't know exactly when they'll be finished.

Dev team of coin is important.
Solar need official programmer..

Research the threads; there are tech leads dedicated to the coin; they leveraged the Cannacoin dev team for latest blockchain advancements/upgrades, as they were already implementing similar changes with that coin. The Cannacoin dev team is one of the top dev teams in the crypto industry.

We are very close to compiling a proof-of-stake wallet for the CCN/SLR codebase.  Since SolarCoin was transitioned to the Cannacoin codebase at the last fork, we are able to test easily.  We now are forking the CCN/SLR codebase to Blackcoin codebase.

This is a task that has not been accomplished before, forking from a scrypt litecoin codebase to the Blackcoin codebase, and it must be thoroughly inspected and tested.

Unfortunately, if we give you an ETA and it is not accurate, then this will result in a disappointment.  The moment we compile the wallet we will have screenshots.

We will keep you updated.  Have some faith and don't wait to start working on other projects for Solarcoin while this is being finalized.

Do not worry, promise!

And again

Dev has more coins than the original 14million claimed! Add another 6.6+ Million!

Here is the block chain analysis of the pre-mined data of this coin. If anyone can provide scrypt blockchain and ill will then furthur give you 100% confirmation of all transactions made on the blockchain.

As you can see, there are 1,465,379 CANN coins directly linked to bittrex from the Dev teams pre-mine not paid out to miners.
Secondly you will see 5,202,379 Not yet redeemed just as you saw linked to the 29 burn addresses .

You can see there was activity on the following 5 million moved from pre-mine can CANN wallet 28 minutes after the burn that occurred between 1AM - 2:16AM PST on OCT 22nd. This looks as is someone is hiding something...  Roll Eyes

More facts.
