381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: January 03, 2018, 12:33:52 AM
I have problems with the wallet it says "0 active connections to the geo coin network".

What do i have to do? I downloaded the windows wallet a few minutes ago.

Unfortunatly Bittrex does not accept new accounts at this time. I want to mine Geo-Coin's. Any advise? What will happen if i have them in the geo wallet when the swap comes?

Thx.

*Update
I need a UBQ wallet? Is the one displayed on the homepage not the right one?

*Update 2
The nice support via facebook gave me some node commands, now the wallet is syncing! Many thanks @the devs
Glad that the wallet is now syncing up for you properly!  You will continue to use the original GEO wallet until the blockchain upgrade has been completed.

In terms of the upcoming exchange, you could try and migrate your balance over to Cryptopia exchange as an alternative to Bittrex.  I have not yet received 100% confirmation from them, but we are in discussions.

Other then that, we are planning a manual swap form for the stragglers that end up missing the exchange upgrade.  We encourage all our users to migrate their balances over to Bittrex wherever possible in preparation for the upcoming blockchain upgrade.

Hey Weifa, how is the video coming along? I hope your christmas was also enjoyable apart from busy Smiley
I've put the video on hold as Christmas has been a very busy time.  I'm also coordinating with the other exchanges (Cryptopia and Yobit) before I release the next movie, as it will include all the details for the upcoming blockchain upgrade etc.
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: December 28, 2017, 06:38:04 PM
why the map not working once we are logged in on geocoin.cash ?

We're currently under development, it is best to wait for our new MapBox interface to be released to the community.  This will take place after the upcoming blockchain upgrade as we will need to replace the wallet backend to handle the new GEO (ERC20 token) hosted on the Ubiq Network.
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: December 27, 2017, 08:20:00 PM
what is the usecase of this coin? i dont like the concept of a wallet being tagged in your current location. big wallets are prone to easy hacking because they know your exact location.
The GeoCoin project is a combination of Cryptocurrency with GIS & GeoTechnologies.  We've developed a GeoCashing interface which allows users to drop coins anywhere they like.  Other community members can then go and pick up the dropped GEO right from the map using their smartphone GPS.  The applications of where the coins placed are up to the user who drops them, but they can be used for scavenger hunts, promotions for businesses, outdoor recreation and more.

If I see the announcement thread it looks like this project has a concept like google maps. does this project have something in common with google maps?  Grin
well look to the future of this project, I think this project will have a bright future.
Our original GeoCashing interface was built using Google Maps.  We're replacing our Google Maps interface with our new MapBox interface after all the blockchain upgrades are fully sorted.

Hey there,

Are we going to go find UBIQ coins after atomic swamp?

Kind regards,

Nobody from dev team seems to take care of this thread, am I right?

Kind regards,

Dude, the dev team has put thousands of hours into actual work on the coin. If you want somebody whose job is to watch the thread and post answers then do that job.

add
not trying to be rude but really this isn't a company where somebody has a job they have to do. Any person is free to help the devs or buy the coin or not buy it. Any dev can wake up in the morning and say crypto is boring so he or she moves to Labrador to forget the trauma of coinwork. If somebody wants a specific job done then do it or don't do it, but please do not ask somebody else why they aren't doing it.

+1, very much agree with answer above, especially that we have christmas period which is strongly affecting crypto.

Even thought there is plenty of explanation all over bitcointalk on this swap, I am not from dev team, but I don't mind sharing answer to this - Geo coin will be merged into Ubiq network and become it's token therefore you will not find Ubiq coins, you will find Geo Token belonging to Ubiq network. This will happen on 25th of January and all of the new Geo Tokens created will be avaliabile for Geocaching from the app that is being developed.

Read up about tokens vs coins, Ethereum is another example of host network just like Ubiq is.

When we upgrade the GEO blockchain, we will become a new Token on the UBQ network as mentioned.  This means that you will still be searching for GEO on the GeoCashing interface, not UBQ.  Sorry for the delay, had a busy period with family and friends over Christmas Smiley

Sorry for my bad English, but I didn't understand exchange for token GEO is only on Bitrex? My GEO are on Cryptopia. Coins will be replaced by tokens automatically?? . Bitrex is not giving me withdraw my coins. Tell me other possible options.
So far we have confirmation from Bittrex to assist us with this blockchain upgrade.  I've been in discussions with the Cryptopia devs and hope that they will also assist, but have not yet received confirmation.
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: December 20, 2017, 05:22:40 PM
Is there any progress going for the App ?

As much as I love Geo I think the app will be released only pre-summer with the way things are going, unfortunetly seems like we will miss out on this altcoin boom and possibly we will suffer through bitcoin correction ;/
GeoCoin is an ongoing project.  We've proposed a lot of work for the project moving forward and we need to ensure that all the development is coordinated properly in a certain order.  The main focus at this time is the upcoming blockchain upgrade, we're coordinating with the various exchanges and developers.

And there is some instruction for transferring from myetherwallet to bittrex ?
Simply, when I try to transfer from myetherwallet to a purse in bittrex, it shows an error "incorrect destination address"

I think you invested in https://www.geofounders.com/ ICO which is not GeoCoin project.
The GeoCoin project is not related in any way to myetherwallet, please do your research into what tokens you purchase.

How to exchange GEO (ERC20) for the current? and is it possible now?
We recommend migrating your GEO balances over to Bittrex in preparation for the upcoming blockchain upgrade to the ERC20 token on the Ubiq Network.  Our confirmed date is set for January 25th 2018 so you'll need to ensure your balance has fully migrated well before this date to ensure it will be upgraded for you.

Here's the support page discussing the upgrade from Bittrex: https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003177652-Support-for-the-GeoCoin-GEO-blockchain-upgrade

hmmm i smell a swap here, found a few geo left in my wallet from the old days.
bittrex is off-limits to me 'coz it needs verification, and i'm not human.
will there be some kind of swap form ?

So far we only have Bittrex as confirmed to assist with the blockchain upgrade.  I'm trying to coordinate with Cryptopia to see if they can also assist with the upgrade on their end.  We don't have any plans for a swap form, sorry.
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: December 13, 2017, 09:22:29 PM
I've recently filed a support ticket with Cryptopia Exchange to see if they can also assist us with the upcoming blockchain upgrade.  It would be great to keep them as a marketplace for $GEO.  I look forward to hearing back from them.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: December 07, 2017, 07:56:16 PM
What is the actual idea behind Geocoin? Is it meant to be a competitive game or can merchants, for example, buy and place Geocoins in their stores and incentivize people to go there or something like that?
Yes both of those ideas are possible with GeoCoin!

By now or does that still require development? What's the current status? Is Geocoin being used?
We're currently under development and will be releasing the new MapBox interface after the upcoming blockchain upgrade and wallet replacement in the backend.  But the technology will allow any user to pin a stack of GEO anywhere they like on the world, whether that be a scavenger hunt in a park or on top of a business location that is trying to incentivize people to come to their shop.  The applications for GEO are huge based on where you place the coins.
394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: December 06, 2017, 05:42:12 PM
What about some GEO "blocked" on https://geocoin.cash wallet?
Withdraw is still disabled (my tx was from 2015  Grin)

We will be migrating all the current balances from https://geocoin.cash wallets in preparation for the blockchain upgrade.

Big thanks to the Bittrex Support staff, we now have a confirmed date for our upcoming $GEO swap.  Grin

https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003177652
great news, but if we hold Geo on bittrex, we have to do it manual or it auto swap ?
Bittrex will be upgrading the blockchain for us, it will be automatic as described in the article.

GEO is now added to https://pool.minertopia.org
Thanks for adding GEO to your mining pool, I'll update the mining section on our site!
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: December 05, 2017, 08:29:54 PM
what does this mean actually ?

i have 100 geocoins, do i get 100 ubiq coins or something else ?

Sorry newbie here,

Thanks in advance
No, you will still have 100 GEO. Even if it will be stored on your UBQ wallet
I think a lot of people were confused as I was refering to it as a swap.  I think Julian's terminology is more accurate as we're doing a GEO blockchain upgrade, essentially moving to an ERC20 token on the Ubiq network.  GEO remains as GEO, but with an upgraded blockchain.  I hope that helps sort out the confusion Smiley

Sorry, may I ask some questions?
I see 110 GEO on MEW. Is it GeoCoin on Bittrex?
If YES, how can I transfer token from MEW to Bittrex?
If NO, what is it?

Thank all of u for reading.
Sorry I'm not familiar with MEW so I cannot offer any suggestions for you there.  Sounds like a scam.

The statistics of players are interesting

There are a lot of Geohunters, but the best hunter owns 1/6 or 1/2 part of all GEOCoins with big gap from other players.
Does he has inside information?
These stats are summarized totals, they likely dropped their own coins and picked them up while using our Google Maps interface.  According to the block explorer found here, https://chainz.cryptoid.info/geo/, the current amount of GEO outstanding is 3,320,614 GEO.  I think your math of 1/6 or 1/2 is a little off  Wink

My math is just about these numbers)

Here are no information about 3,320,614 so maybe thay are produced but not available for picking up. So site statistics is strange.

I may be mistaken, of course, just want to clear what these numbers mean.
Members of the community have currently dropped over 2000 GEO onto the map for collection.  The majority of the coins that exist in the chain are not dropped on the map.  A lot of our beta testing users were able to drop their own coins and pick them up to ensure the functionality is working, these totals get summarized in the stats listed above.  Example, if I drop a stack of 100 GEO and pick it up, the collected number of GEO grows by 100.  Hope that helps explain what you're looking at.
