381  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Indian Grandfather Paralyzed After Encounter With Alabama Police on: February 14, 2015, 05:18:34 AM
I'm sure there'll be a civil suit filed at minimum. If the cops don't wrap the thin blue line around this officer, then he might be held criminally liable. I doubt that'll happen tho. Most likely is the family will get a settlement which the taxpayers have to foot the bill for. Ideally, the officer's pension should be at stake here because of his behavior.

The US police officer has been arrested.

384  Other / Politics & Society / Re: C.I.A. Estimates 20 thousand to 30 thousand Foreign Fighters Flooded Into Syria on: February 13, 2015, 12:52:12 AM
Unfortunately, it is the brutality of ISIS which seems to have attracted these foreign fighters.
That and money. ISIS are savages, so they will always attract sociopaths. There aren't many places or societies in the world, that will not only allow you to kill a bound hostage, but also praise you for it and even pay you.

These middle-eastern groups seem to have an endless supply of oil money.

The United States has accepted two new immigrants for each additional job created since 2000, according to federal data.
...

If you are talking about legal and illegal immigrants, you shouldn't really say that United States has 'accepted' them. It may be misleading.  Smiley
Plus if you have job creation in skilled areas (which require immigrants) and job losses elsewhere, I would still say that immigration is acceptable.

Terrorism is negative but the goal is peace

As a wise man said -  there is no path to peace, peace is the path.

Absolutely no sex outside of marriage. And absolutely no divorce or even separation.

And what if you discover that you are stuck with a scumbag like this particular fellow?
389  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hacker Group Anonymous Strikes First Blow Against ISIS on: February 10, 2015, 12:31:47 AM
The hackers claim in a video posted Friday that they had taken dozens of accounts on Twitter and Facebook, all of which were used as a recruiting platform for ISIS to gain more numbers in their organization.

This could have been done by any government by putting a request to Facebook /Twitter.
I hope Anonymous didn't screw up any monitoring plan by the government.  Tongue

We had no department of Homeland Security less than 20 years ago. It will not be missed.

There were fewer radicals 20 years ago.
391  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama openly admits 'brokering power transition' in Ukraine on: February 09, 2015, 02:34:14 PM
Time for the US to butt out. If the Ukraine turns out to be an abortion it will be all to the good. Better that than the wor;d's 'unwanted child' . or a real 'monster'.

Russia was subsidizing Ukraine to the tune of $5-10 billion per year, in reduced gas prices. Now it is the turn of the EU and the US to do the same. Let me see from where they will find the money.  Grin

These 'strategic' countries keep playing one block against the other.
They always seem to wrangle out a good deal.

394  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Personal Vote Tracking on: February 08, 2015, 05:54:31 AM
As information security technology develops, it's important to consider applications that add to the security of civilized nations.  To this end, it is inevitable that a method of personalized voter verification be developed.  I think bitcoin tech could possibly factor in but of course it would have to be absolutely secure to where only the end user could track and verify that their own vote was counted and if the vote was ever wanted to be used for analysis or investigation it would require opt-in from the individual.

It's just one of these things I think about regularly.  We have the tech to make it work but of course it's a money and political issue.  But I predict we'll see it within the next twenty years if we bug our elected officials enough.  I may look into petitioning on my own very soon.

Voter verification or vote tracking?
People would definitely want their choice of candidate to remain anonymous.

396  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 64% of Investigative Journalists Believe Themselves To Be Under Surveillance on: February 07, 2015, 02:29:01 PM
This just goes to show the state the world is in... If over 2/3rd of journalist believe this...

But do they have evidence they're being spied on are they just being paranoid. That being said I thought the NSA had access to everyones data so it wouldn't surprise me if they're snooping on journalists especially.

They have reasons to be paranoid.
Better safe than sorry.

While there are no real winners, I feel for the 17 year old whose life is ruined because this scumbag filmed her having sex and it's on the internet now. She certainly made her point.

Making her point and landing in jail?
I feel sorry for her.

Gay Porn Strangely Popular In Pakistan, Nigeria: Report

Nigeria and Pakistan are two of the planet's most anti-gay countries, so why are residents of both nations searching for so much gay porn?

As eagle-eyed Alex Park pointed out in a recent Mother Jones post, Pakistan is, according to Google Trends, "by volume the world leader for Google searches of the terms 'shemale sex,' 'teen anal sex,' and 'man f-cking man.'"

Both Pakistan and Nigeria rank in the top five for Google searches of the term "gay sex pics" and "anal sex pics." Kenya, another vehemently anti-gay nation, ranked first for both searches.

People are just curious to see what all the fuss is about.  Grin
