Is there any way to update or upgrade minor versions without going through this heart attack inducing ordeal? Huh

It seems to me that it is stupid to truncate the users table when only doing a minor version number update. Maybe if it was a major version that would be good, but its a pain in the ass.
I usually dump the database, import it into a dev system and then update the dev system.

When it fails, I roll back the dev system (virtual machines are awesome) and try something different.  If it works, I do the same process on production.

This takes longer and may require more hardware, but at least I don't have to fear losing any production data.
382  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: June 16, 2012, 05:00:46 PM
Ahh.  I can feel the thought process you went through.  I totally sympathize with you.  I don't know about you, such a mistake could've let to much more than 10 BTC loss!  So, it's not fun, but it could've been worse (always trying to stay positive)

I think it would be pretty easy to add a box to let the user specify what address they'd like to use for the change output.  That doesn't entirely solve the problem, but it would at least serve as a reminder and give you a way around shooting yourself in the foot like this.

I can take it a step further, and add a wallet option/flag that tells it to stick to imported addresses only.  The question is, when I need to create change, how do I do it?  Send to the next address that hasn't had change sent to it recently?  Have the user specify a universal send-change-to address?  Require them to specify it every time?  Obviously, this will be under the advanced interface Smiley

P.S. -- I'm still claiming that my program has never been responsible for losing anyone's money.  I'm sticking to that claim even after your report Smiley

You can look at how blockchain.info does it.  They let you choose the address to send from (or all of them) and the address for change.

It would be even nicer to have it let you choose all addresses in a wallet, some addresses in a wallet, or one address in a wallet for sending and then one address for change.

Is your coin selection done from a list of addresses or from a wallet? If it's done from a list of addresses, this shouldn't be too hard to implement at all.

No problem.  I've broken a few mysql installs myself haha.

Do you have access to a shell on your mysql server?

mysqldump is faster and more powerful than phpMyAdmin.

I don't think your dumps will not have any users or permissions in them though.  I don't think phpMyAdmin exports them.
Yes I have a shell, and when I search in the exported .sql file, I see usernames and password hashes. I'm just not sure how to import the dump using the command line. If I could log into phpmyadmin, I could import it there, but I can't login because the controluser is missing or some permission for it is messed up. I had to manually reset the root password since the upgrade blanked it.
http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/import-mysql-dumpfile-sql-datafile-into-my-database/

My bad.  mysqldump is just for dumping.  To import, you can just use mysql.

Code:
$ mysql -u root -p -h localhost < data.sql

You still have access to at least one user, right?

There's a lot more trolls and non-helpfull trolls on this newbie form, than last year... Last year it was full of positive, great idea's, and had a sense of community.. Feels like a little trashy now.. It's sad.

Hey Faisal7, is this you?

390  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 15, 2012, 10:04:45 PM
Is there any hope that the new code changes will get the long term luck above 90%?  I really like the idea of p2pool, but getting effectively 90% PPS is disappointing. I don't think the pay cut is worth it until the large pools actually start disrupting the network and it seems like claims of Deepbit's evil intentions and such are purely FUD (at least at this point in time).
I hope so. Actually informing nodes about new block on network should reduce orphaned blocks (we have them too many...). I set my miner to switch pool/solo and see many times that "new block detected on network before longpool" message. After this update I never see it Smiley
About DDOS on pools: why ppl are not switching to p2pool? I cant imagine that any1 will try kill all nodes at once, this is only true safe pool.
Only hope that we will go up to 100% Smiley
But I didn't think that orphaned blocks affected the luck calculation.  I don't see how this will help our luck.
391  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 15, 2012, 09:32:32 PM
but on emails, the replies on top..
And in emails you can assume the recipient has read all of the previous emails and so knows what you are talking about.  Here, there are multiple conversations going on and it's nice to know which one you are talking to before I read your comments, not after.

Look at every other quote on this page or even this thread.  The only one with the response before the quote is you. The vast majority of users don't do it backwards like you.

Dummy plugs are weird It depends on the driver..

I am runnign a 7950 + a 5850 and my 7950 needs a dummy plug or needs to be plugged in at first or hashes suck....

12.6 beta drivers, cgminer 2.4.2, diakgcn kernel. and phatk kernel..

On my dedicated rig I am running older drivers and they do not require dummy plugs.
Rigs with mixed 7 and 5 series cards will never be optimal Sad
393  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 15, 2012, 09:22:47 PM
Some very important optimization changes have been made! It could reduce the block orphan rate from current 5%-15% to <1% (ideally).

https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/commits/master

Everyone, please go update NOW!

Devs, please force this upgrade by splitting the chain, people will not update voluntarily Sad

Not to be a dick and all.. But why is not forrestv announcing this? The (main? only?) developer, you know? I am somewhat careful with code from the Bitcoin universe, where wallets are involved and stuff. "Prattler" has a low postcount, shouts, makes large promises and makes it totally urgent with the possibility to lose (forked) Bitcoin if one is not to react immediately.

I am sure there is an easy explanation to this, but still my eyebrow stays raised until I hear more. Forrestv is logged in, too, actually.

Ente
Its committed into his repo so its safe

It's not like Prattler is providing his own download link.  He is linking to forrest's repo on github.  Only forrest can commit to that and so you have no need to be a dick Smiley

Also, please reply UNDER the quote. Not above it.  We all read top to bottom.

Luke is there any newer next-test? I'm asking, because that is always a good source to know, if own patched break the build process Cheesy.

Dia

would be nice to have a central place to see the latest one.

(coin control for everybody!)
Cant you just "git clone git@github.com:luke-jr/bitcoin -b next-test" and always have the latest? That's what I do.

Move your comments about drugs to other topic please!

Back on Topic:

Does anyone know if the money hidden by Zimmerman and/or his wife was the money donated to the defense fund?  Did anyone here donate to it? How do you feel about your money being hidden instead of being used to actually defend him in court (if that is in fact the case)?
397  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: June 15, 2012, 06:14:46 PM
finally i've migrated my wallet.dat to blockchain.info.

thank you very much for this nice service Wink

it was a little bit difficult to get the private keys out of my crypted wallet (i used a fork from pywallet; but this fork did have another dump format - oh well... had to import 50+ private keys by hand)

just a small suggestion:
i really like the archived address feature. is it possible to set them to auto-sweep?
just like mtgox: whenever btc's arrive on an archived address i want to sweep them automatically to my main address.
would be fine if this only works when i am logged in.
The sweeping is done at the time you click the button.  There is no way for him to auto sweep without you having a client open at all times.  Blockchain.info doesn't have access to your private keys, remember? He has no way of sending funds without you decrypting the keys on your client.

It might be kind of nice for it to auto sweep whenever you are logged in.  It can't ever work like Gox though.

bolded a relevent part for you
I was simply explaining why it can only work with you logged in and can't work like Gox.

399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How and Why You Should Set Up Your Own P2P Bitcoin Currency Exchange on: June 15, 2012, 05:15:51 PM
Why would I want to rely upon other people's needs for BTC or dollars to determine my own ratio of BTC to dollars?

I think a better question is "why would I want to rely on centralized exchanges thousands of miles away that require the use of the banking system, ID, blood type and first born in order to make a trade?".

Because I may need more Bitcoins or more dollars as any given point.
What?  You realize that you can use a centralized exchange AND your friends, right?

I think calling this "P2P" is a bit confusing.  When I see that, I think about my computer communication with a bunch of other computers, not "person to person."  Maybe it should be "How and Why You Should Set Up Your Own IRL P2P Bitcoin Currency Exchange"
400  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: If no one ever knew, which I didn't. on: June 15, 2012, 05:01:35 PM
Why would you need to use a dummy plug? Drivers 11.7 and greater dont need dummy plug.

I am using 12.1, for my situation, I pulled my dummy plug, the driver on my operating system spits out [you need ati/amd graphics card for driver to work] in some similarity of them lines. So, without the dummy plugin, the 5850 I have here is undetectable.

I recall last December, when I was mining with two 5830's, I didn't need a dummy plug. & I forgot how to use the function to bypass the dummy plug, I went to extend "i think extend" the card, but there is no extend option in the CCC.

Note: thank goodness for lazurus addon, I almost lost every I wrote above, accidentally hit back button. Such an awesome addon.
If I hit forward and back in Chrome, my text doesn't disappear and I don't have any addons. I just tested it with this post. What browser are you using?
