381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is 21million BTC really enough for the wole world? on: March 15, 2017, 09:27:08 AM
Nobody cares that you can split it into satoshi. Because the fee to send is close to 0.001. So you need a minimum 0.1 bitcoin to send a 0.001 bitcoin, preferabely minimum 1btc, to only pay 1/1000 of your money. With less, something like 0.01 bitcoin you'd end up paying 10% of your transaction as fee.

No, the fee is variable, so it reduces as the exchange rate of bitcoin increases.

383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin less evil than PayPal? on: September 22, 2016, 03:35:47 PM
Paypal is subjective - meaning the interpretation of Paypal's rules is undefined and is open to an individuals (someone at Paypal) interpretation of perceived facts. It is therefore open to abuse and can't be fully predicted.

Bitcoin is objective, there is no interpretation and its functionality exists without any subjectivity.

I would think Evilness will come from bad decision and interpretation, something that is impossible with Bitcoin.

Still not to be considered as a viable option for big amounts teh only way we are going to get rid of these thefts, robberies and scams is the following

https://bitsquare.io/

I don't see many other options today unless we are able to move money p2p (using escrow)

Bitsquare currently has a 1BTC limit, plus it can take a long time to make the fiat transfer. (2 days for SEPA). So its not a real alternative ATM
385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mixing / Swapping bitcoin on: August 04, 2016, 07:42:56 PM
each person creates a priv/pub keypair and only sends each other the public keys to generate a new multisig public key.
(keep the privkeys a secret, obviously)
they both put funds into the multisig

and then both create the transaction to "spend" the inputs.. and ofcourse both sign it..

obviously if they both dont sign it they both cant spend it.
if you dont see your getting the amount you want. then ofcourse you dont sign it. meaning the other person cant get what they want either.
by both signing it means they both agree to the transaction.

but with that said. its stupid to think swapping/mixing coins needs to be complex or that swapping/mixing coins makes you invisible/anonymous

Isn't the problem here, "they both put funds into the multisig"

Bob puts his 1BTC into the multisig.
Alice claims she is putting it in but doesn't.
Now Alice can hold the Bob's 1BTC ransom, she could demand 50% or she won't sign.

So, how can you guarantee the atomicity of the "they both put funds into the multisig"? or that Bob can remove his coins if Alice doesn't transfer.
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is stealing Bitcoin illegal? on: July 17, 2016, 05:22:59 PM
Theft in English law is:
"dishonest appropriation of property belonging to another with the intention to permanently deprive"

Each key word is loaded with legal meaning.
I'd say if you deliberately took bitcoins from someone else, and an average person would consider that act dishonest, plus you didn't ever intend to give them back, that will satisfy all the requirements to make it a theft.

387  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysia Airlines MH17 Crash: Boeing 777 Crashed in Ukraine Near Russian Border on: July 21, 2014, 10:58:54 AM

Is that a black box?

Can't say if this is a black box, but the guy holding the toy seems to be of Ossetian descent ("you reap what you sow")... Cool

Russian TV channel in English (RT English) is showing this video clip in full. The man holding up the doll, later bows his head in respect and then crosses his chest in Christian cross. This is all being hyped as 'showing no respect'.. but its simply not true, and is being taken out of context by people with an agenda.
388  Economy / Speculation / Re: how we can grow up price bitcoin on: July 04, 2014, 09:40:59 AM
We all have the power to increase the price of Bitcoin, just buy more, but perhaps we don't have the means.
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Bitcoin Auction Winner Tim Draper Won't Say How Much He Paid on: July 04, 2014, 06:01:24 AM
Though I don't agree with blacklisted/whitelisting coins. The coins sold in the auction are guaranteed 'clean',  to some people this reduces a risk and therefore gives them more value. So comparing them with the market price is not a direct comparison as the product is slightly different.

http://coinfire.cf/2014/06/30/breaking-usms-auction-winners-notified/

A verified source with the USMS who wishes to remain anonymous stated to Coin Fire, “It is really important that we get this 100% right. We have to verify that they aren’t tied to any sort of criminal activity, we have to verify we have the money from the wire transfer. If we send the coins we understand we will have no way to reverse the transaction so every step is being taken.”

Thanks for the link, minimum price for the sales (from supposedly verifiable facts)  is $451... So not much real info yet...
391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who believes in $10,000 a coin? on: July 01, 2014, 07:19:55 PM
When the reward halves in 2016 we will get another upturn in the direction of the price.

Like it did after going from 50 to 25.

people keep saying that but I've never seen a price rise because of reward halving. Supply doesn't decrease only increases slower.

Less coins produced per day, miners who sell to pay the bills have less to sell, supply to the market reduces, assuming demand is constant this will result in a price rise, it may take a few months to take effect, but I think its inevitable.
392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple vs. Bitcoin - war is over? on: April 07, 2014, 01:06:06 PM
Bitcoin is not mainstream yet. It won't hurt apple. Apple will allow bitcoin wallets when bitcoin becomes mainstream.

By then it will be too late and the damage to Apple will be done.
No, I think not.
You must be dreaming, I fear.

Netscape has gone,
Microsoft is on it's slow demise.
Google has peaked.
Facebook is on dodgy ground.
And given some time Apple will die also... all things change and the death of Apple is almost inevitable.
The more people they piss off on the way, the quicker it comes.
393  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: April 02, 2014, 02:01:24 PM
I think Trolololo's chart is very unlikely. The only possibility for this coming true is some serious cracks in the current economy coming to life. Of course that's not impossible

Unlikely, because this time it's going to be different.lol
Bitcoin has a habit of repeating itself.
394  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin, the UK, and encryption. on: March 21, 2014, 04:24:48 PM
I've been thinking about this law for quite a while and a way out of this could be for a user to upload an encrypted copy of a key to an online server.

Each time the user wants the encrypted key back so they can locally decrypt it and then decrypt their data, they need to  make a declaration that states something like the required download is not under duress and will not be passed to a 3rd party.

I can't see how the police or even a court can compel you to lie, or, if the declaration is worded cleverly,  commit  a crime.

Rather than functioning like money, bitcoins display the characteristics of commodities – that is, users attach value to them, not issuers or central banks.

Thanks Danish central bank! I'd like my money to be valued decentralized instead of centralized e.g. by a central bank or "issuer" (in fact I'd like there to be no specific issuer at all thank you very much).
hahahaha, how stupid can they be? The Danish central bank just gave the best reason why you should use bitcoin instead of fiat. What a bunch of idiots.

I think deep down in their hearts they already begin to feel that the triumph of bitcoin can't be stopped. It's a battle they're destined to lose.
So they start trolling and spreading misinformation. Classic!

Glass beads... so emotive,  so unprofessional, I think it's really starting to bite, the fear is building.
396  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox stolen coins for sale????? on: March 19, 2014, 11:38:13 AM
bitcoin is illegal in my country, I will never go to the police and complain about that, I will end up getting arrested

I'd love to go and see the volcanoes in Iceland, what are they like?

(Bitcoin is only illegal in Iceland)

397  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox stolen coins for sale????? on: March 15, 2014, 05:40:01 PM
So apart from the obvious, you are saying... after a small test trade, you sent $14k to an anonymous person without escrow?
398  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 13, 2014, 07:18:46 PM
You still design by NOT designing...

And you still don't seem to be understanding that this is a valid way to do things.

I suggest you read a bit about Zen Buddhism or Taoism.

Alternatively, Alan Watts can explain how this applies to our current debate.

Yes I have heard quite a bit of Alan Watts presentations...     Some of you guys may need to read economist richard wolff to get some perspectives on labor history and to get a sense of our modern state of affairs and the exploitation of the people by capitalists (my employment of the word capitalist does NOT mean I am against capitalism).

Alan Watts... for me,  his most memorable observation is prickles and goo

Love his stuff...
399  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Competing police forces/laws on: March 12, 2014, 07:04:08 PM
I think something that is underestimated in an anarchic system is fear. The majority of people will have elevated fear levels which will lead to all sorts of problems.
Illnesses related to stress, more people going postal, a poorer quality of life in general.

Ruthless and powerful gangs may dominate, the sort who will kill anyone at the first sign of conflict, before their opponents  'police force' is even aware there is a problem.

Compassion and karma in the majority is unfortunately outweighed by greed in the few.

So bitbulls believe that they will become even wealthier with support from wallstreet traders?

I think the HODL'ing bulls may, its the traders in this thread that need to be careful.
