3801  Other / Meta / Re: The reality is 99.9% members can never rank up with the new merit system. on: February 12, 2018, 07:43:49 AM
Why is ranking up so important? Is it because of the big pay? Ranking up should be the least of anyone's concern if their intention in this forum is genuine and that is to learn, educate, and help one another when it comes to dealing with cryptocurrency.

Let's not kid ourselves: This forum being a sanctuary to intelligently discuss bitcoin became second fiddle long ago. Now the majority of people who sign up here do so just because they see it as a source of income and nothing more. The merit system will at least force these users to contribute something worthwhile but when the majority of users signing up here have little to zero knowledge of bitcoin and/or can't articulate themselves in English very well this makes their chances of being able to rank up very slim so that's why they're so concerned.
3802  Other / Meta / Re: Give me a week of moderator status in the Bitcoin subforum on: February 12, 2018, 07:34:27 AM
I have 83% accuracy with 115 posts reported.
Report more. You have made some contributions however it is pretty dwarfed by a lot of other people's contributions which would be more deserving of a moderator spot.

rickbig41 did become a moderator, but on that list, he's got >10x your report totals within those 4 months.

Rickbig is a perfect example of a user being promoted to meet the obvious demand. Rickbig didn't have anywhere near the amount of top reporters but every morning when I woke up there would be dozens of reports by him on spambots and sometimes they'd been there for hours and no staff were awake to simply nuke them. Thus it made sense to make him a mod as one in that time zone was obviously needed. I used to nuke easily ten to twenty bots in the morning alone and since he has been made a mod I've hardly nuked any at all. If you want to be a mod then show that you are required or would be beneficial and keep reporting as that's pretty much the only way you'll be considered and is by far the best barometer to show us that you would be a worthwhile addition to staff.
3803  Other / Meta / Re: Question about Merit on: February 12, 2018, 07:16:19 AM
I think the admins should come up with some rules/guidelines on this behaviour because I don't think it should be allowed. It's redundant asking for merit because if your post or thread is worthwhile then people will give it merit without having to be instructed to do so. Doing this is essentially begging and in my opinion should be treated the same as begging for bitcoin and the posts either edited to remove the offending part or the post/thread just deleted entirely.
3804  Other / Meta / Re: Chances of signature campigns being removed from this forum on: February 12, 2018, 07:09:45 AM
I read comment by the admin that if the merit system fails to reduce spam from the website, he might take decisions like removing the signature campaigns. This is scary for me.  I am not eligible for any campaign yet but I was hopeful to get enrolled in one. If this is going to be implemented for sure, I might not be comfortable participating in discussions. I will though read posts by other members for information needed.

Yes. They will be banned. Go away. We don't want posters like you anyway. It's clear you don't actually want to contribute anything especially if you can't earn and I doubt you'd get the required amount of merit to move up in ranks anyway so I wouldn't want you to waste your precious time.
3805  Other / Meta / Re: Merits for starting up a new & good topic should be generated automatically on: February 12, 2018, 07:03:49 AM
@Yepaiyique.. You cannot actually just post to any topic to increase your activity all the time. Subconsciously we actually reply to some because thier subjects are catchy, that's the reason why some new  topics gets more replies and views than some. So you cannot say the idea is completely useless..

It is a completely useless suggestion and it should be pretty obvious why. It would just cause the exact issue that merit is trying to prevent because people would just spam worthless threads just to get merit. If you want to gain merit then create a thread or post that is worthy of it but people shouldn't get it automatically just for creating any old thread as it would instantly be abused.
3806  Other / Meta / Re: Reason behind having no "Moderators" for some of the local language boards? on: February 12, 2018, 06:53:54 AM
A combination of not really enough demand and/or nobody meeting the criteria for the local boards. Some local boards just aren't really active enough to command a local mod and if nobody is reporting posts in there then they likely don't deserve to be one anyway. The Chinese local board is in dire need of a new mod as the current one isn't very active at all and as such it is being massively abused by bots and farmers yet there's just nobody really reporting more than a few occasional posts in there right now.

As for the other English subs I've been saying for years that most of them - especially the big ones - should have their own dedicated mod. Some of the workload should be distributed to some of the more active existing mods but I think it's been long overdue since a user was promoted to staff as well (especially one of the most active reporters with several thousand good reports). I've been getting quite a few messages lately from users asking if they can be a mod of x sub or local board and my first thought or question is how many posts have you reported? Usually it's very little to zero. If you want to be a mod then put in the effort to show you're willing to help out and if staff think you'd be beneficial you may get asked, but I tend to think a lot of the people who ask to be mods these days do so just because they see it as just another easy source of bitcoin income.
3807  Other / Meta / Re: The reason that Merit is working.... on: February 12, 2018, 06:31:49 AM
The merit system will work as intended for users like him so there's no need to give him extra merit just because, but I'm guessing he isn't an illiterate teenager from South East Asia only here to claim from signature campaigns so he doesn't have anything to worry about. It's those who can't speak English very well and couldn't hope to articulate themselves as well as he can that know they're in trouble hence all the whining. However, he is proof that if you are willing to contribute something worthwhile you will quickly get enough merit to rise through the ranks. Users like him will sadly be a rarity though.
3808  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new additions: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: February 10, 2018, 11:27:47 AM
this guy who copy and pasted his post
My guess is he forgot he replied to that thread already, and did it again. It's a useless post, but copying your own post isn't plagiarism, and not a reason for an instant permban.

How can you forget you replied and post the exact same post? It's just pure lazy sig spam. Not much different than copying someone else's post really and if you see his feedback from yahoo it's not the first time he's done it (though he's deleted that post). If you go through his posting history you'll likely find more but they're all one/two liner shitposts anyway so I don't think he deserves any mercy here.
3809  Other / Meta / Re: Why are signatures allowed in the META forum? on: February 10, 2018, 10:37:05 AM
Removing signature or not is not the issue. I think the issue lie on managers counting signatures. There are so many managers that do not count posts for signature campaign when such posts are in certain boards of the forum; eg 'marketplace', 'bounty' section etc. So if the signatures are left but don't count is the same result.

The disadvantage will be that so many members will not want to comment on such areas.

Not all managers are created equal. For every responsible campaign manager, there are those who simply don't give a shit what quality of posts their participants are making, or where they're making them. It would be great if managers were willing to fix the problem, but most, at least for bounties where it costs them nothing to pay out participants because they can create tokens out of thin air, don't give a shit.

Why would most mangers want to do anything about it right now? They get paid for doing nothing so they're not going to want to drastically improve their workload whilst they can get away with it. That's even if they have a manager in the first place. Most ICO campaign don't because it's too much work for them and if they can get away with not doing anything then they will.

Would be nice if they followed and abide by the rules laid out in the only sticky of the Service section : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1684035.0 , do these guidelines get enforced, does anybody know? I haven't seen these shady/lazy or inconsiderate managers being tagged for this kind of thing.

Nope. That thread was largely a waste of time if theymos won't enforce it. The community should probably just take things into their own hands and start tagging the lazy campaigns and their managers. At least it worked with shitposters. It will work with campaigns as well.
3810  Other / Meta / Re: How Do You Feel About This New System?? on: February 10, 2018, 10:31:39 AM

My opinion is that this system is just a measure of limiting users from acquiring rank to give the current established members more rights than the other folks.
I even named it a "Trumpish" system in another thread because it's kinda like what's happening in the US right now, immigration wise. Smiley

No. It's to stop shitposters shitposting their way through the ranks. Now making unsubstantial posts will get you nowhere. If you don't have anything interesting to contribute then you will find yourself going nowhere fast. This is the only way to prohibit low-quality posters and reward people who are here to actually contribute something worthwhile.

Yes, I agree none of the new accounts will get higher than Member rank on this forum. It will be an exclusive club and that's it.

I see a lot of people with high ranks saying they "do not care" of the ranking system but they all participate in signature campaigns. How hypocritical of them Smiley

Plenty of people will achieve their rank, just as long as they're a great poster. The only "exclusive" club it will be is for people who who can contribute something worthwhile. The only people complaining about it will be those who either can't speak English sufficiently or people who just can't be bothered putting the effort into their posts.
3811  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Sources on: February 10, 2018, 06:25:17 AM
So the Off-Topic section is my present home. And I don't get merits from creating good comments.
In reality, people are lazy applauding others. So What can we do to rank up?

Don't make lazy shitposts in off topic. This is a bitcoin forum so not sure why you're here if off topic is your 'home'. The whole point of the merit system is to stop people like you who don't really contribute something.

So the Off-Topic section is my present home. And I don't get merits from creating good comments.
Watch out for that, because I've read hilariousandco's opinion of members who only post in that section--so if you screw up you're not going to get any sympathy from a mod like him.

He can spam away. With the merit system these shitposters will soon realise they're going nowhere.
3812  Other / Meta / Re: Is new bitcointalk update with merit is fair? on: February 08, 2018, 06:22:29 PM
Bitcoin is the major cryptocurrency in the world i dont think it will downfall for yeara.still 1% in world population use bitcoin, and far way to go still bitcoin is in his developing era

Already china, south koriya put restrictions for bitcoin.today i hear a news that indian government try to do same for bitcoin soo what will happened

Is it fair that all a shitposter has to do is make 240/480 of the one liner shitposts above to become a Senior or Hero member? Nope. People are tired of reading the nonsense, no-effort posts. I'd argue now it's actually fair because if you're not willing to put in effort here you're going to get nowhere. Actually contribute something over the many months it takes you to become a Senior/Hero and you should have nothing to worry about.
3813  Other / Meta / Re: Should the lowest merit spenders among us be known? on: February 08, 2018, 03:37:47 PM
Meh.  I think it's people's right not to give out merit points.  Some people don't buy into the merit system, are lazy, inactive, or whatever.   It's not a cause for concern and really isn't anyone's business anyway.   That's my take on it.  The only people who should be censured are the ones who are gaming the system.

Yeah, I don't think people should be 'shamed' in some way just for not dishing out merit. It's their choice whether they want to or not so there shouldn't be a table of these people, especially when it will just be populated by inactive users. Their merit will decrease anyway, but there's more important things to be thinking of right now like adding more merit sources and giving more merit to those who have shown they can dish it out well.
3814  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: February 08, 2018, 03:31:13 PM
Hi, how to increas my activities ?

Read this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0

How can you manage to find this thread but not the sticky right next to it explaining everything you need to know about activity?  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
3815  Other / Meta / Re: Educate me! About meta. on: February 08, 2018, 03:22:16 PM
Forum means to share what you know that you want to share ? ( my own perspective)

Meta is just a place to discuss forum issues.

Bitcointalk means to tackle about bitcoin specifically talking about bitcoin so why is, there are sections talks about altcoins?

Why are there sections to discuss politics or economics? Because the board grew past just being about bitcoin and all alt coins are essentially offshoots of bitcoin. Things that are happening in the development of alts could also be beneficial to bitcoin in the future.

Do we need to change the name of this site to cryptotalk.org?

No.
3816  Other / Meta / Re: Merit reactions for New Members: Why Merit & sMerit is a forum failure on: February 08, 2018, 10:17:09 AM

  • Because it gained tremendous number of members' reactions and it is the most trending topic since the implementation. Agree or not the fact is, it's unfair.

There's a hell of a lot of shitposters with multiple accounts who are annoyed. Looking at their post history you can quickly see why. The culture of people being able to earn money here just by shiposting or copy and pasting an address needs to change. If you're not here to contribute then you shouldn't be allowed to earn.

  • most of us (sort of all of us) have multiple forum accounts especially bounty hunters due to a lot of bounty campaigns running at the same time, the more the accounts the more signature bounty campaigns to join and the more coins and tokens we could get, the higher we earn money because everyone wants to earn money, right?

Lol. Greedy freeloaders complaning that they can't milk campaigns any more. You are the exact type of people the merit system was created to curb. You should stick to one account and contribute something worthwhile with it then you will earn your rank, not just create as many accounts as you want and make a nice living from it just by posting your crapcoin address for an easy bounty over x amount of accounts. And speaking English doesn't matter. Stick to your local board where you can chat in your own language all day long. Say something worthwhile and local posters will reward you with merit. If you can't contribute anything though don't expect to receive any merit.

  • Merit System is a some kind of discrimination between English speakers and third world people who just want to earn money.

The merit system does not discriminate against any nationality. It discriminates against shitpoisters who can't be bothered saying anything constructive and that's a good thing.

This place is not for you, pahjeet. Go to Reddit or somewhere else. Crypto is for whites only.

Make Bitcointalk great again

lol.

3817  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a way to block those infographic images? on: February 08, 2018, 09:18:48 AM

If you need to create one, then please post a link to the image, and don't embed the image itself.

This kind of defeats the purpose of them in my opinion. I would rather be able to see the image and immediately know whether it's is helpful or not than have to click on it and find out. I'm sure there are plugins to disable images etc.

Why users should need to post link to the image instead of embeding it? Just because you don't like? If users would post only link to image, then we would be forced to open 3rd party websites in order to view an image. It doesn't sounds good.
I'm seeing only one annoying thing in this case - people quoting original post without snipping the image.

Because people posting full page images are really annoying, and break up the flow of the thread. T

I think this is just down to personal opinion and preference. I would actually rather see a nicely presented infographic than walls and walls of ugly text, especially regarding ICOs etc. They can often get to the point succinctly and look more professional (providing they're done right).
3818  Other / Meta / Re: Why are signatures allowed in the META forum? on: February 08, 2018, 09:13:33 AM
I would disagree seeing as probably 90% of my constructive posts are in here these days Grin. I think it's a slippery slope removing signatures from certain boards and you could make your argument for the main Bitcoin sub, Tech Discussion, Politics and practically everywhere else other than Off Topic maybe. Where does it end? We might as well just get rid of them site-wide because removing them from certain boards would also have negative consequences. Sure, the people who are only motivated by money will stop posting in the specific boards signatures are prohibited in, but they will then just migrate to the other sections where they can get paid and then they'll then start polluting those boards. Then people will naturally just request more and more boards meet the same fate. I think the merit system will discourage newer users from posting half-assed rubbish now, but any other spammers should just be dealt with and more importantly the campaigns that keep paying them to do so.

3819  Other / Meta / Re: how you guys think about MERIT ? on: February 07, 2018, 09:52:00 AM
All I can say about this MERIT thing that you are adding in this Forum is that it really makes difficult for a LOW ranking member like me to be promoted to a much higher rank so I could say that this MERIT thing is like a discrimination for LOW ranking members like us to be able to be promoted and reach the highest rank such as LEGENDARY rank. Gaining MERIT is a near impossible to achieve because who will bother giving you a MERIT when almost everybody in this FORUM are busy doing their own thing to finished the assigned task on them from all the bounties that they had participated.

It should be difficult and it's not discrimination. Is it discrimination when people require you to have passed your driving test before you're allowed to drive? No. Now only people who have earned their right to post by making quality contributions will rise through the ranks. Ranks should mean something other than you just made one post every fortnight for a certain amount of time just to become x rank etc. Now ranks will actually be earned by both time and effort as previously it was far too easy for anyone to farm as many accounts as they wanted just by posting rubbish. The system now prevents that. Make great posts and you'll be rewarded over time but if you can't make great posts then you'll probably struggle.

I didn't know what is merit is all about or what is the use of it but i have merit in my profile. Anyone knows what is merit for?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg29774366#msg29774366

Find my discussion in this trend. Meriting Introduction is to scrutinize the forum by reducing or cubing low quality posts in order to boost activity ranks and more like that. Furthermore, to increase/improve the forum standard and encourage every member in the forum to be pro active. Anyway, I feel it's high time we stick to the forum with important ideas of constructive wordings.

Your posts seem like word salad to me.
3820  Other / Meta / Re: An idea that can improve the users's behaviors on: February 07, 2018, 09:24:06 AM
The merit system should help curb shitposting now as doing so will get you nowhere very fast, but campaign managers should be policing their participants not anyone else as that's what they get paid to do. Now the merit system is in place the focus should be on campaign managers that do little to nothing as they're the ones causing the mess in the first place and nothing will change about spam coming from campaigns once people get enough merit to join them unless punishments start getting handed out for laziness.

...
For users who use this forum only to make money in the easiest ways,  they will receive an alert to stop these acts and else, they will receive a negative trust .
---snip---
Members of this group will be paid weekly . And a manager ( Administrator)  will be in charge to pay them and to supervise their work.
...
so... your solution is by creating a new position for yet another money making opportunity?
theymos already have staff, mods and global mods for moderating the boards
the problem is there are too many reports/posts need moderations that they can handle
and surely those high ranked members are here for discussion and not really looking for mod jobs (except maybe a few)

Staff shouldn't have to deal with sig spam as that's not what they get paid to do. Campaign managers need to be doing this and if they're not then they need to go. People would soon start looking after their campaigns if accounts and threads started getting trashed.
