Lol, zero players!  Woohoo!

I could try a 5-blocks away game.  Doesn't seem like a whole lot of interest either way though - no one is willing to risk it!

What about people who currently have preorders for prior-gen singles, and want to upgrade to the new ones?  I've seen this question asked all over the place, but have yet to see an answer for it...

EDIT:  Oh, and a question to go along with that.  What would be the priority of the changed orders?  Are they part of the 1/3 group?

If you've paid and have yet to receive your unit you can upgrade your order to SC based products.  You would have to make up the difference in values if any depending on what you wanted to upgrade into.  Regarding shipment priority classification, you'd be in the upgrade group.

If you intend to upgrade anyway, you're better of taking delivery of your current gen unit and enjoying it's mining power til your SC upgrade is ready to ship.  If on the other hand you want to conserve your investment, then converting your undelivered order would be a viable option.  You'd only loose mining time in the wait.  You should also consider the relative hashing power of today's gear is probably going to be similar to the relative hashing power of gear after the market stabilizes at some unknown point in the future.  The strong initial profitability will balance out as the market matures.
Thanks for the response BFL.

I have 4 prior-gen singles on order.  I don't have significant additional funds to invest in mining, so didn't want to take delivery of all 4 of them.  I would rather change the order to 2 of them, and save the additional $1200 to put towards upgrading to 2 of the SC Singles when the time comes (paying the difference between the two orders, of course).

Two more questions then:
1) When/how can I upgrade part of my order to SC based products?
2) Will I be placed in the back of the line of all of the people who have submitted upgrade orders for SC products already?

I do understand and agree that the market will balance out and stabilize in the future, and it is my opinion that it won't be all too different from current ROI's, but I certainly want to get in the game as early as possible for some of that first-miner advantage as well.  Wink

See Sarge, this is what you get for not asking me first Wink

We offer dedicated server's with up to 3TB drive's for a one-time fee, not monthly.  The main ATOM server (great for storage) with a 2TB drive is $58.50 a month and $160 one-time fee.
A one time fee?  That's interesting... how much?  What limits are there on bandwidth usage and speed.

ssaCEO, I don't disagree with what you've said, but here's the thing:

They can't make a bitcoin poker site illegal unless they make "free" poker sites illegal as well.  To do that, they would have to legitimize BTC as a valid currency and as "real" money.  That's the last thing they want to do... so a BTC poker site would be tough to shut down on those grounds, simply because it would open a different can of worms that no one in the current financial industry wants opened.

Not necessarily true.  Some of the state laws I've read indicate that gambling anything of value is illegal online, which would most certainly include Bitcoins.

3847  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speaking of things going pop! What do you think will pop first in world markets? on: June 27, 2012, 03:23:25 PM
But how are the banks going to survive 20% inflation with so much locked into 3% home loans?  Inflation is the pin that'll make the banks go pop.

20% inflation is caused by money printing, which lowers rates..  3% home loans means that the banks are awash in 0% cash from the fed, which=inflation..

The only thing that will make the banks go pop is if the fed raises interest rates (by printing less money, which slows the rate of inflation), that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.
As soon as the economy starts turning around though, the fed will stop printing all of that money.  We see low interest rates today because the money printing is what they are trying to use to turn things around.

Tis a good point about the banks, and I am not sure what measures they could take to prevent large losses in the event of high inflation.  But, we have had inflation rates in the 15-20% range before and the banks found ways to survive, so I am sure it could happen again.

3849  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL, Why is Dwolla & Paypal not an option anymore for ASIC? on: June 27, 2012, 04:22:15 AM
To give current miners an edge over other people.

Secondly, if you mine N% of the network normally, you aren't stopping anyone's transactions getting in, you are simply slowing down the transactions you are ignoring by leaving it to the other (100-N)% of the network to deal with those transaction you are ignoring.
Not necessarily true.  If you have > 50%, you have the option of forking the chain and ignoring blocks from other miners.  The clients will automatically accept your new fork, because it is longest.  In that way, you could prevent anyone from making any transactions, unless they figured out an easy way around this.
3851  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speaking of things going pop! What do you think will pop first in world markets? on: June 27, 2012, 12:39:31 AM
I think USD and perhaps the Euro will enter some serious hyperinflation in the near future,

I think people in this forum use the term "hyperinflation" too INFLATIONARY (pun intended). With hyperinflation there is no later use of that currency, as it has lost all its value and has to be replaced (Unless you force people to use it witch only works in North Korea). Maybe "high inflation" would be more appropriate.
"Extremely rapid or out of control inflation. There is no precise numerical definition to hyperinflation. Hyperinflation is a situation where the price increases are so out of control that the concept of inflation is meaningless."
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/hyperinflation.asp

Ok, I think I can agree with you on that one.  I'll change it to "high inflation" then.

And there we have it!  The question is, can you have threads be auto-watched when you reply to them?

That would be nice, but I don't know how to add new profile settings.
Roger that.

In the effort of keeping all of my watched threads in the same place, I guess I'll have to keep posting disguised "sub" posts.  Wink
There's nothing like an actual response that means nil for subbing. Grin
I noticed that this was your first reply to this thread.  You aren't subbing, or anything, are you?  Wink

Interesting, what does it do ?

Look at reply button, beside it is now "watchlist". Its for keeping track of threads without getting your email inbox spammed by subbing.

Personally, I just think it needs to be heavily (and I mean heavily) advertised outside of the Bitcoin realm.  The market for Bitcoin users who play poker is saturated - now it's time to move on to the market for poker players who might be willing to use Bitcoin.

I have no qualms with the software.  It gets the job done, and I never see lag myself.  Why do you hate it so much Daily Anarchist?

I don't mean lags in a delay sort of way, just that it sucks.

Oh ok.  I haven't been involved in any other poker sites, really, so I don't know what I am missing compared to Full Tilt or Poker Stars.  Care to enlighten the uninformed?  What do those popular sites have that seals with clubs does not?

It's probably a case of ignorance - I just don't know that there is better software out there.

3858  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty post ASIC? on: June 26, 2012, 10:15:32 PM
I just think it's silly to highlight the fact that there is risk involved, when that should be common sense for just about anyone entering any sort of investment to start with.

This sounds like saying that people shouldn't be informed, which contradicts your first sentence.

Have you been paying attention to all the new posters in this forum every single week asking if the "Unknown" mining pool is a threat?

Hundreds of new miners appear to have entered into what could be better called an "nonrefundable three-month layaway". There is no real-world precedence for this in the world of retail, so it is NOT common sense.

Due to the nature of Bitcoin, what if BFL can't raise enough funds to do an ASIC run and Bitcoin increases in value 100%? They can't deliver the goods and they can't return the coin, the best they can do is return a dollar investment in coin, and let's sure hope they are backing up their order info in the process!

How could you possibly be opposed to someone bringing these sorts of issues to bear?
I suppose I am just expecting too much common sense out of people then.  To me, all of the things you just wrote about are simply stating the obvious.

I have found that common sense is not all that common, that phrase is a misnomer.
Likewise, I have found that particular phrase commenting on a phrase to be cliche.  But still, it may be true nonetheless.  Wink
3859  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do you trust bitcoin in one sentence. on: June 26, 2012, 10:12:22 PM
Cryptography keeps it secure, decentralized keeps it from corruption, open source keeps it honest, and limited supply keeps it from inflating.

That is why I trust Bitcoin.
