Due to anti-DDOS-measures, my data dump no longer gets storted by date. @n0nce: does this not mess up the way you scrape the data? If it does, please check it.
Update: it works again Smiley

Have  you seen the Self Moderator Bot?

What about running a Tor server? I've got the following address you could have Tongue:
None of that works as long as the current server is unreachable Sad
The plan is to work some AWS magic and be back online after that. I was unprepared to setup a second scraper to prevent losing posts, so posts archive is going to be less complete. I still see LoyceBot online once in a while, it may still be able to scrape some posts.

Update: It works again. I missed about 5000 posts in total Sad

3844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Going to build a new node. on: July 02, 2023, 10:36:07 AM
The reason I am doing this is I no longer want my trezor to be my main storage device.

I have 3 dell 7060  one will be an active node

One  will be a cold wallet

the third will be  a pc back up for either  node.
I still don't see the point of cloning the disks: if your original contains a hot wallet, the clone can never be a cold wallet. And if you use a cold wallet for signing, it won't need access to the full blockchain. It's easier that way, but much more work to keep your offline blockchain up to date. Only transfering a signed message from your hot wallet to your cold wallet (and back after signing) is much easier to maintain.
3845  Economy / Reputation / Re: LoyceV's notification bot (7 days retroactive) on: July 02, 2023, 06:40:08 AM
The tool is working as of this post but yes, there are some struggles to properly connect consistently.
At the moment, I can't reach the server at all anymore. We're working on it.

Quote
I wonder what motive someone would have to attack your tools? They only really benefit the community and don't really pose a downside to anyone. Unless this is the case with some other tools on the server?
I'm the only one using the server's IP address. Why can't they just leave fake negative feedback, and complain on the Reputation board, like normal internet trolls? Cheesy

Have you tried adopting litespeed over/in conjunction with apache? It's a good, cheap solution to filter most bad traffic without going to the extent of adopting an expensive/intrusive method like cloudflare.
The attack was on port 443, so this won't matter.

Hey LoyceV, I don't know if you noticed but images in the guide are not showing (at least not for me) so maybe you might wanna check it out.
There's a DDOS on my server, and I've been blocking IPs. I've excluded ip.bitcointalk.org from getting blocked, but somehow it's blocked anyway. If I flush iptables it works again, but quickly gets blocked while I don't find the IP in the blocked list. So I don't get it.
I think it's okay again. I'm slightly in over my head, this is new for me Sad

Pictures now work on and off. That's just the DDOS Sad

Like we said we will leave this situation for the community to decide
Although I get and partially understand this, it's also a tricky thing to rely on: at some point you should decide those things on your own, and stand by your decision.

if people agree you should get refunded then you will, if they don't you won't. Simple as that
Let's try a side story: Let's say I made a deposit, saved the Letter of Guarantee, and got the note's private key. I safely stored the private key offline.
Then, my computer got compromised, and someone gained access to my empty wallet and the LoG. That person now has the same information stormbounty has, right? He can sign a message from the address used to deposit, and thus prove that "he" paid the address in the LoG. If that's the case, he should not get the money that belongs to my note to which I have the private key. If I'd come back 2 years later and see the money's gone, you'll get a scam accusation.

Disclaimer: this post includes some assumptions because I still haven't tested your site by myself.

People should really learn to keep the private keys safe. That's all that matters in crypto, if you lose your private key, your money is gone. If it's Bitcoin, it's a donation to everyone. If it's Binance's made-up wrapped Bitcoin, it's a donation to CZ. If it's WWM, it should be waiting for you until the end of time.

Hey, great tool! I've only been using it for a couple of days and already I'm finding great value from it. Nice work (as always) Loyce  Smiley
Well, I'll have to disappoint you: for the first time since I created it, it was really down:
It looks like there's a DDOS going on, which started yesterday. I started DROPping ports, but I forgot to exclude Bitcointalk (it was quite late), so I broke my scraper.
For 7 hours and 2 minutes, I didn't download any posts between posts 62480523 and 62481467. That's 944 missing posts, which also mean my notifications failed for those.
I hope to keep it working from now on, but the DDOS is ongoing.

That doesn't happen on your profile, only on profiles that, wait for it, don't exist (anymore).

Update: the posts below made me realize there's another possibility: profile doesn't work when your login timed out. I never let that happen so I didn't notice it before.

Who I should I sign to?  to which bitcoin address? What is the message body?
Write what's relevant:

"Today is June 29, 2023.
I, user stormbounty on Bitcointalk, sent xx Bitcoin from the signing address to WWM's address yy."

Then add the LoG to make complete.

Dude, I cant sign a message, what more can I do, wdf
What you should have done, is import the private key into a wallet that supports transaction signing. Ideally, Electrum running on LIVE Linux offline, but since the address is empty, a hot wallet would have worked too.

You did not get a reply because we simply ignore support requests where users forget or don't save their private keys, this was the general consensus when we had the same issue a few weeks ago.
My opinion is that you should still reply to received support emails, and write him at least one simple explanation, this can even be general reply email.
Agreed. It's unlikely for all users to read everything on Bitcointalk.

What if we refund this user based on the guarantee letter and then we receive another support request from 'someone else' with the same guarantee letter while also having the private key telling us that he doesn't see his balance on Whirlwind anymore and accuses us of scamming? Do we refund that user as well?
How can there be two (or more) exact same letters of guarantee?
(Not counting that someone hacks in user computer and steals the original document).
It could have been a hack as you say, but it could also be the person with the LoG pretends to be someone else. It could also be the website itself claiming to have received the LoG by someone else already, and there's no way for the user to confirm this. Either way, it's opening up a can of worms.

As an extreme solution to prove how important this money is to me right now I can fully DOX..  What more do you need @whirlwind.money
There's no need to DOX yourself, and it doesn't help your case either.

I've just sent the private key to support email.
That was dumb. In Bitcoin, ownership is proven by signing a message, not by sharing a private key. Now you're no longer the only owner of that address.

But, truth be told, unless it's in mini private key format, your odds are allmost 0 when you can only read 9 characters... (and even if it's in mini private key format, it'll probably take more time and effort than it's worth... I didn't do the math, but my gut tells me that even in this case, it's allmost impossible)
Even if it's a mini-private-key, it's impossible to brute-force from 9 characters.

The thing is that it is old-washed paper and I can read only the first 9 symbols of this string.
You'll need to find a way to read the other characters. Try bright light, adjust the contrast on pictures, or get a microscope to look for damaged paper fibers. Okay, I admit, I made up that last one, I have no idea if that's possible, but it's more likely than brute-forcing the private key.

Is it possible to retrieve his Bitcoin with only that fraction of a private key (the balance is 1.09BTC)? How long would it take to brute force the rest of the private key?
Without doing the math, it's safe to say it will take forever and cost much more energy than 1.09BTC is worth.

So let's suppose I open the channel and have receiving capacity,I have this forever then or I have to keep pumping money to the channel in order to use it?
I think you should read up a bit on how LN works before using it. Think of a LN channel as a certain amount of money, that can move back and forth between your wallet and the LN node. If all of it is on your side, you can't receive anything.
Since you're talking about small amounts, you could consider a custodial wallet. That way, you don't have the hassle of opening your own channels.

I am never a big fan of smartphone wallets
Me neither, but LN is especially useful for small payments "on the road". That's probably why there are more mobile wallets than desktop versions.

or I should add 200.000 Satoshi in Electrum and start receiving payments there?
Note that opening a channel isn't enough: you'll need to send some of your LN balance before you have receiving capacity.

Are you not switching to Electrum Wallet's LN network?
Electrum is also my Wallet of Choice at the moment.
I like Electrum, but I don't like opening my own channels. It has too many drawbacks. I now (only) have Phoenix Wallet left for LN: opening a channel is custodial, but after that it's non-custodial.
