What has happened tonight?
All my buy bids got filled, even at my lower end. I am now officially out of fiat on stamp!

Who the hell is deleting so many posts from this thread?

In a self-moderated thread? Perhaps the moderator, AdamstgBit.

If he didn't clean-up, we'd be well over 100000 pages by now...

PS: Adam, please delete this post at your earliest convenience. Wink

Seconded. I first thought something was wrong with my browser...

WTF is going on with Bitstamp, my 2FA authentication doesn't work, can't log in  Sad

Check that your phone's time is in sync with your PC. There's a drift sometimes (and not just on Bitstamp). Try logging in 45 seconds after the number is issued, and not right away.

Woke up this morning to see Gox @135? WTH? They dropped to a pre-October level!
Can somebody shoot them for distorting the market picture?
3846  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 17, 2014, 10:20:05 PM
Maybe we should all pitch in and offer to buy a years supply of Starbucks for the GOX staff if they can fix their crap by tomorrow?

Mark seems to really like his Frappuccinos.

Just trying to think outside the box!  Grin

(Fortunately, I have no coins there but hubby's friend still does even though he told him 7 times to get his coins off there.  Sigh.  What do you do?)
I could bet the chap is a Greek. He's not though; he's an expatriate French that lives in Tokyo JP. I have a colleague that runs around the office with a bucket of frappuccino like this; the annoying parts are that:
a) He's twisting and circling his hands horizontally so that the ice cubes are making this HORRIBLE noise (brkbrbrbrbrbrbkrbkr...) .
b) HE LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM!
c) WTF!??!  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Jeeeezzzz  Angry

Macsga, colleague, you say?! Hmm... You sure your office is not in Shibuya.  Tongue

I've been watching Gox for quite a while now... Under 300? Really? The price there is just surreal.
3848  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 16, 2014, 11:03:36 PM
2011 all over again.

buy, guys. buy. I'm telling you.

Would you think that it will play more like 2011 than 2013 this time?

People , stop writing encoded messages!!! You're talking about the hack and the ddos episodes?

I think people wonder if we are in for a prolonged, slow and painful decline over the period of many months, before the next serious upward movement starts (as in 2011), as opposed to a short period of sideways before the next rocket (as in 2013).

Next difficulty:
Estimated Next Difficulty:   3,130,529,329 (+19.42%)
Adjust time:   After 22 Blocks, About 2.9 hours

Price will need to go up, else mining is dead also with ASICS...

Do I see myself turning off my miners even if the price halves? No. They are already paid for, I don't mind the heat (especially during winter), and the electricity bill is paid from my day-job salary.

As for the larger picture, mining is a self-balancing system. When will people understand it? If enough miners turn off their gear, the difficulty will gradually go down.

This discussion is getting out of control. I have to say this was one if the most crazy weeks ever. Hope Monday will bring something positive and not an apocalypse.

For my part, it will bring fresh fiat to Stamp. Price is largely irrelevant.  Cool

Ok I bought at 646.  Time to go up.  Lets see if I get plastered on this one  Cheesy

Well that didn't go so well.  Wasn't watching the market the last hour or so then looked at the screen, got a surprise and got straight back off again at 646.

Lol.  Thank god it's BFX so the fees are tiny.

You are in the wrong mindset. In a year's time it won't matter if you got on at 646, 570, 720, or even 850. It'll all look almost the same. Get on whenever you have fiat.

Take it from my experience, if you try to get on and off looking for the lowest price, you'll either be left behind when the next upward correction starts, or will slowly bleed away on fees.

I wonder, if we are to repeat the same scenario as was in $32->$2? I wouldn't bet on that though. My buy orders end at about 480, which I think will be the bottom before the trend reverses.

Not worth risking $50 difference, you had today really nice chance.

It depends on your trading style. I have small buy orders spread out in a certain range below, as well as some small sell orders spread out in a certain range above. A couple of my sell orders got hit today @624 and @649, which resulted in a few new buy orders from 600 and down, supplementing the already standing orders from 550 and down.

I've asked for a refund of Neptune last week, and got the money back today. Quick and professional customer service.
My main concern was that according to this calculator http://btcinvest.net/en/bitcoin-mining-profit-calculator.php, the miner would need to come on line end of March at the latest to break even. I'll be watching KnC's foray into cloudhashing with interest, and maybe buy shares from them if they would appear to be at least a little profitable.

In the meantime, the fiat money that I got refunded got redirected strait back to Bitstamp, and if the price on Monday/Tuesday stays about the same as today, I will have made BTC6 of pure profit. Cheesy

...and pity that I won't have fresh fiat on the exchange for the week-end, as I expect we'll be re-testing the lows.

I call bullshit. If you really thought that, sell your coins there and buy back in cheaper.

Here comes the FUD brigade, wanting cheap coins before the Big Fix. Sorry you missed the bottom, Guys, but it's in the rear view mirror.

Please, choose your accusations more carefully.

I am in the mode, where I play with 3-4 BTC, the rest gets moved to cold storage or waits for a spike in preset high sell orders. In January I decided that I will not sell a single coin at lower than what I bought it for, so more and more coins got locked out from trading by that decision, on the other hand, I had 0 losses and a few BTC gains. And another part of my strategy is to remove a fraction of BTC to cold storage each week.

On the other hand, I've been transferring fresh fiat to the exchange and buying each week on the way down, and I am almost, but not entirely out of fiat on the exchange. If you read my message correctly, I said that it was a pity that refund money didn't come earlier, because I am fully aware that we are near or at a bottom. The refund money will be converted back to BTC next week whatever the price (another of my decisions was to buy for at least 80% of fresh fiat immediately upon deposit), but you should agree that it's always a nice bonus when it's done at a bottom.

I am also of the opinion that this week-end will see a flash-crash, as we are still in the down-trend, so my remaining fiat is locked accordingly in the preset buy limit orders.

Anyone else feeling like it's only a matter of time before the heavy dumping starts today?

don't base your trading on your feelings
I do FEEL the pressure to sell, so i buy.

<-- crazy

I learnt that the hard way. Adam's proposition often works well.

Another bit of wisdom: don't base your trading decisions on what people here say/feel, if only to avoid flock mentality, and and keeping your head clear.

And my personal favourite: If you place some strategic orders during a calm period, making (as much as possible) rational assumptions about the market, don't start moving them once the market moves.

3860  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 13, 2014, 04:51:33 PM
This slow crash is very annoying, when i want to short, i want to see profits fast. I am not really comfortable to sell for the midterm in this situation that could end up being the bottom, or close to the bottom.

No, I don't dare shorting this market, save for 1-2 BTC for a few hours, just for the fun of it. I mainly bring fresh fiat to the exchange, and buy gradually in on the way down.

BTW, I find Money Flow Index and True Range to be quite useful these past days.
