3861  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to buy bitcoin on: September 25, 2022, 01:08:40 PM
Thanks to all of you for your advice. I def will becareful don't worry. I'm familiar with bitcoin and everything about it. My investments is large because I beleive in crypto as the future as many of you. Again thank you!

It may seem that way to you, but if you are asking fairly beginner questions, then you still have a lot to learn. It's not my business to ask where your money comes from, but if you don't have proof of legality, forget about any centralized crypto exchange, and the only thing left is what @o_e_l_e_o suggested, decentralized exchange and multiple trades.

The only problem I see in this way of buying is your bank, which can be very curious that you suddenly have a lot of transactions with unusual clients. Of course not all banks are crypto-friendly either.
3862  Other / Meta / Re: Tables of users with the most merits earned (more than 1500 merits) on: September 25, 2022, 12:45:08 PM
Personally, I don't see any benefit from such statistics, especially if there is a project that most of the users of this forum have heard about, and by clicking on one link you get Most earned merit (after initial merit). That link also lists up to 1000 users, so most of them will be happy to see their name on that list. And best of all, the whole thing is automated.
3863  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The best cryptocurrency wallet to use between cold and Hot wallets. on: September 25, 2022, 10:45:00 AM
The best is the crypto wallet that you fully understand, because otherwise every wallet can be a big risk, regardless of whether it is hot, cold, or open source. A person who downloads a desktop/mobile wallet, installs it on his device without verifying the files and saves his seed in an inappropriate way (cloud, e-mail, plain text file on the computer), is certainly exposed to a much greater risk than a person who buys a hardware wallet and creates his own crypto wallet but repeats the mistake of saving backup.

Both users are therefore exposed to similar risks, the latter perhaps less so because they take advantage of hardware wallets, but in the end both of them do not understand how to achieve security and protect themselves from hackers.

A properly made cold wallet is the only correct way to store larger amounts, and any of the hot wallets that have a good reputation can be used for everyday transactions.
3864  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-09-22] JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon slammed crypto and called BTC Ponzi Scheme on: September 25, 2022, 10:23:10 AM
People who worry about what bankers and various rich people are talking about Bitcoin have a big problem in life - because what does it matter that some banker is talking nonsense? I personally didn't care what that banker thought 5 years ago, and I don't care even less what he thinks today, just as I don't care what Buffett, Gates or Mr. Mars think about the same thing.

@bbc.reporter, I am surprised that you are promoting something that is still the source of a huge amount of scams today, and in the future there will be even more. Who else got rich in such a safe way that you suggest? Maybe 1% or 2% of those who are behind everything and sell fake stories everywhere, drawing even more followers into their game...
3865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlonaut Trial on: September 24, 2022, 02:25:40 PM
My personal favorite is where the ">" symbol is changed to a "<" symbol in a different font, not only making the forgery completely obvious, but also making the equations in the whitepaper incorrect and meaningless. The true work of Satoshi. Lol.

This is proof that even with a lot of money and an army of lawyers, you still have to be intelligent in order to create a top-notch forgery, which might then be believed by an inexperienced/bribed judge or some senseless commission or something, as was the case in Colombia. Anywhere else in the civilized world with a somewhat independent judiciary, Faketoshi and similar fraudsters don't stand a chance and are starting to look more and more like people who have started to lose touch with reality.
3866  Economy / Speculation / Re: What can we expect from this statement of Michal Slayer.. on: September 24, 2022, 01:58:24 PM
Recently i came across this post Michael Saylor says Bitcoin could return to $68,000 within 4 years and hit $500,000 in the next decade..
The time line of 4 years seems very long... What's your opinion regarding this statement

As for the speculation, I think it is quite conservative for a period of 4 years, because it turns out that the next halving will not have any impact on the price. I would not agree with that statement (if it is true), and this with $500k is quite frivolous for anyone - because the next decade means that it can happen in 8 years (2030), but also that it can happen in 2039, which is just guessing and shooting at the target blindfolded.

"The next logical stop for bitcoin bitcoin is to replace gold as a non-sovereign store of value asset," he said.

This is not something I can agree with either, because gold is still a completely different category and something that countries will not just give up and replace with Bitcoin. It is possible that some countries like El Salvador will buy Bitcoin, but that some mass exchange of gold for Bitcoin will happen is not something we will experience in this or the next decade.

@Flyingjack123, if you don't mind editing the title, it's not Slayer, it's Saylor.
3867  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solution to some challenges faced by bitcointalk members from developing nations on: September 24, 2022, 01:17:52 PM
Why creating a new topic about this, you could have just post it on that old thread.

I agree that it is unnecessary to have a discussion about the same thing in two different boards, especially if the topic from the Bitcoin discussion could be moved to B&H if the OP thinks this is a more appropriate place for the discussion.

However, something else caught my eye, and that is that some sentences from my post in the linked thread were copied without mentioning my post as a source. I cite the following as an example :

High Rate of Unemployment: Seek other means of income. You can get a degree or a skill that can assist you in getting a job or becoming self-employed. Joining a signature campaign might be helpful financially but the forum should not be a place for making money, it should only be something that comes as an additional thing in the process of information exchange and discussion.

The forum should not be a place for making money, it should only be something that comes as an additional thing in the process of information exchange and discussion. I agree that without the Internet and a good computer you can hardly be more active on the forum, but unlike some spammers who are very productive, their number of posts does not mean much if compared to someone who writes only 3 meaningful and quality posts a day. Quality always before quantity Wink

This is plagiarism by the definition of the forum, but I hope that the OP can learn something from this without getting a perma-ban (I refrain from reporting to the moderator in this specific case).
3868  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone buying right now because they think we are at or close to the bottom? on: September 24, 2022, 12:33:31 PM
@buwaytress, it is not so much a problem in the price, but a much bigger problem is that most people do not believe in Bitcoin in order to invest in the long term. I believe that the majority will still wait as close as possible to the halving, and as always, they will start investing on the wave of some new FOMO. If I were to ask people the question of choosing between 2 possible scenarios when it comes to investing in Bitcoin - the first would be to invest now, wait at least 2-3 years and then sell, and the second would be to wait until the bull run starts and then sell in the next 2-3 months.

It seems to me that the latter is the option that many would choose and I can't say that I don't understand that way of thinking, although long-term investing is always more profitable, at least when it comes to Bitcoin. Of course, this may be true for those who do not look at Bitcoin exclusively through the prism of profit, but also some kind of personal financial sovereignty.
3869  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone buying right now because they think we are at or close to the bottom? on: September 24, 2022, 10:54:37 AM
~snip~
I don't know what the ultimate bottom will be, but I do believe fairly strongly that the 2025 high is going to be significantly higher than the 2022 low.  A guessing man might say as much as 20x higher.

I would like to know what someone is counting on when they think about a x20 price increase after the next halving, especially if we take into account that the last halving did not even increase the price by x3? If we assume that the average price during this bear market will be around $20k and that it will be the starting price for a future bull run, I would not say that anything above x10 is realistic to expect, although I would never claim that it is impossible.

If history repeats itself, then anyone who invests today, even in the worst-case scenario, should profit at least x5, and that is a more than excellent opportunity for 2-3 years of investment.
3870  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ledger nano x: Nobody mentioned the 4.25% transaction fee on: September 23, 2022, 04:11:50 PM
I posted a topic about the specific coin in altcoin discussion. Just trying to find out about the technology and trying to collect as many opinions as possible.
It got no replies. I believe it is because most people just don't know.
You can keep repeating it's sh*t but I'm mainly looking for reasons why. Tell me there

Listen, I have no problem with you or anyone else investing in anything, let everyone do whatever they want with their money. The thing is that the place for a discussion about altcoins is exactly where you opened your topic, and the fact that no one answered may give the best answer as to how important that project is.

This is not a reason to mention the same project in the Bitcoin discussion or B&H, because it gives the impression that you are promoting this altcoin - and you also claim that all the big world companies have something to do with it, in one way or another. I stopped visiting that board a long time ago, and I'll tell you the reason - when I was a beginner and years later, I believed in some projects like the one that impresses you now, and they all disappeared as if they never existed.
3871  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to buy bitcoin on: September 23, 2022, 03:36:34 PM
@hd49728, The OP mentioned Ledger, so I assume that he already owns it or is planning to buy it, which is a completely logical step if he wants to invest $50k, which is too serious an amount for a hot wallet. Of course, Electrum can be used as cold storage, but that again requires a little more knowledge and another device.

If the OP has no problems with KYC and his funds are legal, of course he can use one of the well-known CEX, where he will certainly not encounter a problem with liquidity - I assume that this would not be the case with one of the DEXs, although I do not use them, so maybe I am wrong.
3872  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone buying right now because they think we are at or close to the bottom? on: September 23, 2022, 03:16:53 PM
Is there anyone buying right now because they think we probably will not go much lower and don't want to miss out at these low prices?
I am not talking about people who are averaging down or doing their weekly small bitcoin purchases, I am talking about people who are actually converting their cash into serious bitcoin holdings, or increasing their bitcoin holdings by a large amount.

I may be wrong, but it doesn't seem to me that any of the big ones are seriously buying, although of course there are ways for them to do it quietly in the background without affecting the price too much. They, like most of us, know that we can't be sure if we've hit the bottom, and they also know that until now the big bull runs have always come after the halving - so it's logical that there's a lot of caution about whether now is the right time or not.

For small investors who buy for a few hundred $ it doesn't really make too much of a difference if they buy now or if they wait until the price drops 20% or more, but for those who buy hundreds or thousands of Bitcoins the amount of money they can save is far greater. I think the price speaks the most, the supply is far greater than the demand, and inflation is forcing more and more people to sell what they have been collecting for years.
3873  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Currently dealing with the worst day of my life in crypto on: September 23, 2022, 02:15:54 PM
Mate, I understand your pain right now. Honestly, I would be devastated if I were in your position. Next time, remember to put your funds in a wallet and double check the users you are talking to, even though I am sure that you don’t need reminding after this.

Pay attention to the dates, because I'm pretty sure that the OP accepted his situation after 5 months - so even though it's not easy to lose money that means a lot in your life, it's still not the most valuable thing that every person has. Every day is a new opportunity to earn something, and I'm sure that the OP didn't give up and is now much more careful than before.
3874  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Where to see the seed on: September 23, 2022, 01:42:24 PM
@RobbDc, can you explain to us (if you remember) how you got to Electrum wallet in the first place? If you went the normal way, then you downloaded Electrum and created a wallet inside it, and then you got a seed of 12 words that you had to save. If by some chance you didn't do that, and you didn't even save the wallet files, then you actually have no way to get possession of your Bitcoins.

Try to remember if you saved your seed or private key - because even though there is a possibility that you didn't know what you were doing, that watch-only wallet must have been created on the basis of something. There is also the possibility that someone actually sold you only a Bitcoin address and convinced you that you have Bitcoin in something we call a watch-only wallet.
3875  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nobel prize for Satoshi. on: September 23, 2022, 01:25:22 PM
How does the community will feel watching Craig getting that prize? i think that would be terrible bot the crypto community.

In Colombia, Faketoshi is recognized as the real Satoshi, although it doesn't really mean anything - but I believe that everything is possible in this crazy world, including Faketoshi winning the Nobel Prize, which would only be a confirmation that something is very rotten in the Nobel Committee. As I already wrote in the previous post, that award no longer represents absolutely nothing to me - and as far as I'm concerned, those who make decisions can award it to themselves.
3876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia Approves The Use Of #Bitcoin And Crypto Cross-Border Payments on: September 23, 2022, 10:48:39 AM
I fear though that this will give ammo to anti-bitcoin narrative again.

We should not doubt that, because with all this nonsense and deception that they try to impose as the truth and the only truth, what will happen when and if Russia really starts using Bitcoin for international trade? I can already see the headlines in the mainstream media "Russia avoids sanctions with Bitcoin" or "Bitcoin must be blacklisted because it finances terrorism".

Definitely bad news for Bitcoin, and at a bad time when the campaign to eliminate POW is going on - but as always, there is no need to fear for the fate of Bitcoin, no matter how fiercely attacked.

3878  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Long term investing - Spot, Margin or Derivatives? on: September 22, 2022, 02:42:43 PM
I'm one of those idiots who invested in a bunch of coins/tokens at the top and lost a load of money - around $35k in total  Angry

I sold all of my coins/tokens a few months back but I will be reinvesting in numerous difference projects again when, or if, BTC goes down to $14k - which I believe will be somewhere close to the bottom.

The ground you walk on is slippery, and just when you think you are standing stable, you slip and fall. Getting up is of course a difficult process, especially for those who cannot afford to lose $35k and start all over again. However, I would emphasize here that the key thing is to learn from your mistakes, and although I generally understand the need of some investors to invest in "numerous difference projects", I cannot escape the impression that they are making the same mistake again and again.

9 out of 10 such projects will fail in the long term (in less than 4 years), so it all boils down to the perfect timing of when to buy and when to sell. Everything else is speculation, including the fact that the price of Bitcoin must fall below $15k, which is not impossible, but there is also a high probability that it will not happen.
3879  Economy / Speculation / Re: Saylor equivalents? on: September 22, 2022, 02:05:03 PM
I can see it being confusing for someone who doesn't have anyone to tell them about this and not sure what to look up for how to do this stuff (though it wouldn't take much googling to learn all this), but if someone has a friend to tell them how it works they should be set up in no time.

In addition to the general "what/how" confusion, it should also be taken into account that many people are confused by the fact that when they create an account on a CEX and see that there are at least two or more versions of Bitcoins, they buy a fork according to the logic of "this one is cheaper". Such a fork can often end up in another custodial wallet, which in most cases means wasted money.

And buying actual Bitcoin and storing it oneself is infinitely more advisable than buying some bitcoin related investable product like Microstrategy stock or some ETF or whatever.

In general, I would also advise it to anyone who shows that they understand at least some basics when it comes to Bitcoin, but for some it is still safer to buy stocks or shares in a fund. Most people do not have enough determination or knowledge to be their own bank, and they do not understand the risk of using CEX as storage.
3880  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Microstrategy purchased again 301BTC. Is this a sign? on: September 22, 2022, 01:30:36 PM
I think that we may have a difference in the terms. By a near end of bear market I don't say I expect new ATH in the near future, no. It's just that the price should slowly start going upwards instead of downwards. And I have high hopes that this is gonna happen before 2022 ends.

I have nothing against it, but when it comes to this year, I wouldn't hope too much for any positive change, considering that I don't see any reason for the price to go up significantly, let alone to stay there. Any attempt to approach and reach the value of around $25k will probably end up returning to the values we are defending now.

Maybe it will sound pessimistic, but if we keep the price at around $20k until the end of the year, I would consider it positive, although not a guarantee that we have reached the bottom. Too many hyenas smelled blood, and by that I mean those big players who have a lot of money - and they already know very well that Bitcoin has become a safe bet if they play smart, and that means knocking down the price as much as possible, buying as much as possible and then emptying the bag in next ATH.
