3881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm doing a study on Bitcoin on: January 07, 2017, 03:35:09 PM
P.S. I found the following report on Overstock for 2014:

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/overstock-pass-3-million-usd-bitcoin-sales-2014/

Other companies you might want to look into are Microsoft (they accept bitcoin for xobox stuff and games), Dell (they started accepting bitcoin in 2014), Namecheap (you can pay for domains and hosting with bitcoin).

Trawl through their company filings with the SEC, and if the info isn't there, email them and tell them you are doing a research project and ask for the data.
3882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm doing a study on Bitcoin on: January 07, 2017, 03:27:14 PM
You could try looking at the detailed annual reports of publicly quoted companies like Overstock. Overstock accepts bitcoin, so somewhere deep in the notes they will have disclosed to their shareholders how much revenue they took. I think their reports are online, but you'll need a lot of time to comb through them because annual reports are full of arcane stuff and mind-numbing detail to satisfy the shareholders
3883  Economy / Speculation / Re: WTF happening to the price on: January 07, 2017, 03:22:23 PM
A bubble has pop-ed. It doesn't look that bad actually, since Bitcoin price is still much higher than at the start of the bubble.
I hope that from this point the price either continues to rise, either moves around this new value. And there's god chance that one of these two is going to happen. However, I'd stay and watch for 1-2 more days to be sure of the trend.

Bubble hasn't popped because it wasn't a bubble. If it was a bubble then we would be sitting at much lower levels. It's just a healthy correction that the market badly needed. That's why it doesn't look all that bad. If we maintain the $800 level, then I am fairly sure that we'll rise above $900 again. But then the next thing will be - Will we manage to maintain the $900 level... Either way, current volatility lends itself perfectly for some profitable trading. I have nothing to complain about.

It was a bubble. It rose from $700 t0 about $1100 in a month. The bulk of the move happened in just a week.

Anything that goes up that fast is being pumped and it's inevitable that the pumpers will cash out and the price will go down.

Lets hope it consolidates at the current price for a month or two before making any futher moves up.
3884  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prepare for another year or two of dramatic decline. on: January 06, 2017, 11:05:16 PM
BTC still has fundamental problems at the governance and scaling levels.

Core cannot be trusted to solve anything or do anything that does not glorify their egos or benefit themselves in some way.

1mb blocks can't sustain a BTC price in the multiple thousands. That's just how it is.

BU or Classic will have to fork off and succeed if we are to move past these hurdles.

Yes - but given that the miners arn't interested in choosing BU or Classic, I think what will happen are speculative pumps from time to time, with various alts making a bid for teh crown. At some point an alt will succeed, and they'll be the future of cryptocurrency.
3885  Economy / Speculation / Re: Central bank of the Shanghai province warns about the risk of speculating on BTC on: January 06, 2017, 09:33:57 PM
I'm getting deja vu - this is exactly like the warnings issued in late 2013/early 2014 from the Chinese, which panicked everyone into selling. Maybe they're trying to jaw-bone people away from bitcoin.
3886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: My cryptsy alt coins are gone for good..? on: January 06, 2017, 07:11:01 PM
Is there way to get back the coins.
Almost 3btc plus was lost in Cryptsy ?

You can fill out the receiver's form at this link.

http://cryptsyreceivership.com/registration/

It's not exactly a claim form, it's for giving the receiver details of what funds you had on cryptsy.

Thanks. Didn't realize that the receiver required you to make a claim. Thought they had all the details of the owners of the coins.
3887  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin has gone beyond gold prices on: January 06, 2017, 06:50:55 PM
this is the second time that it happen, remember the good old thread "gold down bitcoin up"

i believe gold is done it will not increase more than the current value, the market is saturated, bitcoin reaching $1k is only the first step instead

I think gold is done as well. The dollar is up and gold, plus other currencies have tanked. The only thing holding it's value is bitcoin, but that's because most of the buyers are in currencies (yuan, rupee) that are tanking against the dollar and they're trying to get out using bitcoin as a path.
3888  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: .1 BTC transaction pending with 48 peers for 36 hours??? on: January 06, 2017, 06:28:51 PM
(the only way around this is to let small inputs age for a few years).

Miners aren't paying much attention to the age of inputs these days, especially since they're likely all aware that the priority status for a given input will be removed from the code by the end of the year (slated for version 0.15).

The new rules arn't in force yet though, are they? Which means the old rules about priority still stand. If OP's output is made up of lots of fairly young inputs, that's the reason he is having trouble.
3889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Amanda B Johnson - fraud, scam enabler and paid shill for dash/darkcoin scam on: January 06, 2017, 06:20:51 PM
Amanda B Johnson used to rock on the Daily Decrypt.

Then she sold her soul to these DASH wankers.

Shame......

I don't like her anymore.

But she ain't a scammer.

She's just a typical lass who's going after the sugar daddy that will pay her....

This. She's just a small time journalist who is a fan of DASH, and perhaps they've paid her to do some promo, but it doesn't make her a scammer. Just someone who is employed in advertising who believes it is fine because she's a true believer/ihard core fan anyway
3890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: .1 BTC transaction pending with 48 peers for 36 hours??? on: January 06, 2017, 06:00:44 PM
Is it made up of lots and lots of small inputs? If so then you will be sending a lot of bytes and need to up your fee. (the only way around this is to let small inputs age for a few years).

3891  Economy / Speculation / Re: How long until India "bans" bitcoin and it's effects? on: January 06, 2017, 04:13:12 PM
Here is a good article on India's cash ban.

tl:dr the cash ban and drive towards digital payments is a joint effort between the Indian government and USAID.

Well worth the read

"A Well Kept Open Secret"

http://www.globalresearch.ca/a-well-kept-open-secret-washington-is-behind-indias-brutal-demonetization-project/5566167

India is a democracy though - there is every chance that the population will get cross and throw Modi out. And the new govt will ensure that there is plenty of cash, lest they get thrown out too.
3892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are your thoughts for Bitcoin in 2017? on: January 06, 2017, 04:00:40 PM
Well it was the best performing currency of 2016. I think it might go sideways in 2017, but that is no bad thing, a bit of steadiness is needed if people are to actually use it.
3893  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another Bubble Bursts – Bitcoin China Crashes Over 30% on: January 06, 2017, 03:55:35 PM
Don't worry, bubbles are normal for bitcoin. My fave table illustrating this is the following:

It comes from the following article:

https://medium.com/@mcasey0827/speculative-bitcoin-adoption-price-theory-2eed48ecf7da#.lc6fzjqyu

I guess we can pencil in $1195 as the peak of the current bubble with date 4th Jan 2017
3894  Economy / Speculation / Re: Please give me advice, Bitcoin will rise again or go to hell? I'm scared on: January 05, 2017, 05:09:19 PM
This is China related. Lots of the Chinese longs were borrowing yuan, and there was a squeeze in borrowing costs and they had to liquidate.

The wall street journal has written an article about the chinese squeeze, because it affected ALL forex, not just bitcoin:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-dollar-retreats-after-fed-minutes-1483588809

Quote
The Chinese yuan surged against the U.S. dollar for the second day running, spurring a broad rise for Asian currencies on Thursday after a dovish set of minutes from the Federal Reserve overnight led traders to temper expectations of higher U.S. interest rates this year.

The dollar depreciated 1.0% against the yuan in offshore markets, at one point reaching a two-month low of 6.7845, extending Wednesday’s decline that was likely the result of yuan buying in the offshore market by Chinese state-owned enterprises. It sank 1.3% against the Japanese yen, which was recently trading at 115.8370, and lost 1.1% against the New Taiwan dollar.

The dollar’s dive represents a partial reversal of the currency’s strengthening since Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election in early November. Markets had been betting that Mr. Trump’s economic plans would stoke higher inflation in the U.S., causing the Fed to raise rates quicker than previously expected. The dollar’s initial slide on Thursday came after the Fed suggested in the minutes of its December meeting that the currency’s recent strength could in fact slow the pace at which it raises rates.

The Fed noted that “a further strengthening in the dollar could lead to tighter financial conditions that restrain economic activity and inflation—a key downside risk,” economists from Oxford Economics wrote in a research report. “In this light, we see the Fed hiking rates just twice this year and waiting until June to engineer the next rate hike.”

The dollar took a further leg down around lunchtime trading in Asia, as markets digested the latest evidence of China’s increased efforts to stem the yuan’s recent weakness.

The cost of borrowing the Chinese currency in Hong Kong, the world’s major center for offshore yuan trading, rocketed to 38.335% on Thursday, the highest level since a record set almost a year ago. The rate’s surge was taken as a further sign of Beijing’s efforts to make it expensive for speculators to bet on a falling yuan. “Higher funding rates for the offshore yuan have sent a message to the markets and created spillover effects on the rest of the region,” said Roy Teo, senior foreign-exchange strategist at ABN Amro in Singapore. Strength in the yuan typically lifts currencies of countries neighboring China, many of which conduct most of their trade with Asia’s largest economy.

New reporting requirements on foreign-exchange transactions by Chinese citizens, as well as adjustments to the basket of currencies the People’s Bank of China uses to determine the currency’s value, had already encouraged expectations the yuan could strengthen in recent days, Mr. Teo said.

“The Chinese authorities are doing their best to stabilize the renminbi over the short term and discourage Chinese citizens from buying foreign exchange,” said Heng Koon How, a senior forex strategist at Credit Suisse.

The dollar’s sudden move lower in the middle of Asian trading hours caught traders off-guard.

“We are seeing short-term traders in the market out to take profits,” said Stephen Innes, head of trading in Asia for forex broker Oanda. “Those with long-dollar positions should stay firm.”

The U.S. dollar also dropped 0.9% against the Korean won, which was recently trading at 1183.6100, and against the Indonesian rupiah, falling 0.9% to 13332.00. Asian equities largely continued their start-of-year strength Thursday even as the U.S. dollar fell. The Nikkei Stock Average finished down 0.4%, paring just a bit of Wednesday’s 2.5% jump in that market’s opening session of 2017. But if the yen’s gain versus the dollar is sustained in U.S. trading Thursday, it is liable to weigh on Japan stocks Friday.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.2%. The yuan’s rebound the past two sessions “will alleviate the outflow pressure,” said Margaret Yang, market analyst at CMC. “That is a positive factor to the domestic equity market.”

South Korea’s Kospi stock index fell 0.2%, while gains were logged in many other markets, with Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 climbing 0.3% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index jumping 1.5% to post its biggest gain since Nov. 10. In Australia, energy stocks were among high risers after oil prices soared overnight, despite crude prices drifting slightly lower in Asian trade. —Willa Plank contributed to this article.
3895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase hack rumor on: January 05, 2017, 04:28:10 PM
People always post rumours when the bitcoin price goes up, hoping to panic people into selling.

We saw the same thing last year when Ether was making it's all time highs - there was a poster who kept popping up to claim Coinbase was insolvent. It was rubbish, but it was designed to panic people holding money on that exchange.

You'd think people would be wise to these ploys by now...
3896  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now That Bitcoin Is Under $1000 Again.. on: January 05, 2017, 04:25:41 PM
I think next Floor will be around 500Dollars. The Problem is the Chinese Governence which will decide not to allow BTC anymore and to hurt users very much that are using btc.

There is demand for btc from elsewhere though, India, Venezuela, and we don't yet know whether Europe is going to have another crisis, things arn't good under the surface.

I don't think it will go down to $500. I think the floor is $850.
3897  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now That Bitcoin Is Under $1000 Again.. on: January 05, 2017, 02:12:25 PM
Hopefully it will stabalize in ythe $800 to $950 range for a few months. It needs to get boring again.
3898  Economy / Speculation / Re: Kraken failing to execute orders?!? on: January 05, 2017, 02:08:16 PM
This is all so familiar!

LOL yes it is. Most of these exchanges think they're prepared for surges in demand, but come woefully short. Hopefully this is a wake-up call for them to imrpove their capacity. Otherwise we'll see outages frequently this year.
3899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Extreme Dangers of Cashless Society on: January 04, 2017, 04:17:50 PM
So it's 2030, all paper currencies are banned, there is only 1 global currency that is electronic only called The Phoenix

Won't happen. The history of humans is a story about groups of people breaking away and doing their own thing. Hell, bitcoin is the latest example of this - it emerged just after the financial crisis.

And look at all the alts proliferating - initially bitcoiners tried to go stop the alts, they went full authoritarian in favour of the 1 Global Cryptocurrency and they got completely crushed, those disobedient alts devs kept producing new coins, LOL.
3900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people still buy ripple when... on: January 04, 2017, 03:37:17 PM
no one is buying ripple, the marketcap is so big because they keep adding more coin to the supply, just take a look at the supply is very very high

According to coinmarketcap, the 24 hour trading volume was about $936,000, so people are buying it, or rather trading it:

https://coinmarketcap.com/

As to why they are doing it - if they see an opportunity for a quick short-term profit, traders will buy literallu ANYTHING.
