3881  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: OG Nasty is a proven Liar and is scamming his club saying he pays for electric.. on: October 27, 2017, 06:01:05 AM
I wouldn't give out someones information.  So I'm not sure why my name is even being mentioned.
It's either you, OgNasty or you have a traitor in your group. Pick the least evil option. Roll Eyes QS made a dumb move there.

Be careful.  You're making some strong allegations which I believe are not true.
It appears that you have failed to make the extortion payment to both Lauda and TMAN on a timely basis. They are trying to collect.
3882  Economy / Reputation / Re: Requesting proof of trade between Zepher and TMAN[Zepher engaging in fake trades on: October 27, 2017, 05:58:42 AM
This thread is much more interesting to me after the recent turn of events...
I agree. Zepher is a very sketchy person. He is not someone I would trust.

Alright Mr Mansoor, whatever you say.
3884  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: OG Nasty is a proven Liar and is stealing electricity from his seat memebers... on: October 25, 2017, 04:49:10 PM
Did he get them for free?

Did I scam anyone? How much was stolen?
3885  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: OG Nasty is a proven Liar and is stealing electricity from his seat memebers... on: October 25, 2017, 04:38:58 PM
How much exactly are seat members paying for electricity?
3886  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: October 23, 2017, 03:05:51 AM
If I have done no verification processes on Bitfinex and am from the United States, will my account still get frozen on the cutoff day?
AFAIK, no.
3887  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex - FRAUD, price manipulation, fake transactions on: October 23, 2017, 03:05:18 AM
is bitfinex truely a fraud and price maniuplator?
No. The OP is a professional troll.

  • Cutout for the keychain loop

I am not sure how comfortable I would be keeping a quarter million dollars on my keychain.

Wash Trading Bitcoin: How Bitfinex benefits from fraudulent trading

https://medium.com/@bitfinexed/wash-trading-bitcoin-how-bitfinex-benefits-from-fraudulent-trading-8bd66be73215

Wash trading is an epidemic in the Bitcoin markets. For those that are not aware, a wash trade is where a person buys and sells to their own order.
For a more in depth explanation, see here.
From my very first post I’ve been warning about people wash trading.
Originally I presumed that wash trading was being performed by two accounts controlled by the same entity. However, I’ve been informed by reliable sources, and confirmation, that this is in fact, even easier than I thought.
New information was provided to me from some traders, and in my honest opinion only causes me to believe that this is even more likely a criminal operation.
I originally presumed it was two accounts because, no way in the world would Bitfinex allow trades between the same account. That would just be stupid of epic proportions…

This is nothing more than FUD.

A customer would gain nothing by wash trading, would end up paying two commissions, and the market would be unaffected.
3890  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 21, 2017, 04:53:23 AM
But can you teach me your methods of looking for farmed accounts? They are starting to invade the signature campaigns and there might be some managers that are tricked in accepting them.

No sig manager is tricked. They are all theymos controlled, all playing their role, all lining their pockets above real bitcoiners, all cashing in on your misery.
Not looking at signature managers might not be a good idea. Remember that two signature managers might be the same person.

Some of the farmed accounts might be used to push xxx altcoin, some might be used to push xxx ICO and some might be used to push other agendas (such as “core”).

I would not go as far as to say theymos is behind this farming, I would say that the farming does fall in line with why theymos deems acceptable.
3891  Other / Meta / Re: [Poll] What do you think of the forum's usage of reCaptcha? on: October 21, 2017, 04:44:52 AM
For people who log in and out frequently. This is not an issue for individuals such as myself, who are pretty much always logged in.

As long as it combats some forms of attacks, it is fine as is.

I agree.  Knowing it annoys the account farmers is good enough for me to support it and I've only had to solve it once so far.  Smiley
In the grand scheme of things I don’t think this really affects account farmers very much.

A smart farmer will make many posts on one account before moving onto their next account. I would say this causes a farmer to spend nominally additional time logging in and the affect will be unnoticeable.
3892  Other / Meta / Re: [Poll] What do you think of the forum's usage of reCaptcha? on: October 21, 2017, 04:22:49 AM
I recently saw a thread in which someone’s account was banned because they had been inactive since the 2015 hack, so I presume the other accounts that meet this criteria are also banned.

The above along with the email security notification should resolve most of the security issues with the 2015 hack.

It is my understanding that the ReCaptcha was implemented because of the 2015 hack and the bot spammers.

It is only a matter of time before spammers start using mTerk to solve the existing reCaptcha. If we implemented a weaker reCaptcha that doesn’t use JavaScript then some spammers might be able to beat it, however this would also allow you to learn more about the spammers and additional countermeasures can be implemented if necessary.

My biggest concern about requiring JavaScript to login is it effectively makes it impossible (or very difficult and you must really know what you’re doing, eg have very advanced technical knowledge) to stay anonymous.

This literally happened 9 months ago. You could have had a baby in the time it took to ask about this. Can you post some baby pictures please?  Why are you asking about this now?
3894  Other / Meta / Re: Various limit changes on: October 20, 2017, 02:33:51 AM
Can we make some changes to how signature campaigns are allowed to operate here as well? I wonder how much of the forum slowness is due to the increased traffic of hundreds of shitposters signing up with dozens of accounts each every day.
Posting and viewing topics (to a lesser extent) takes up little resources and is fairly easily scalable.
3895  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The KRACK Wi-Fi attack...precautions? on: October 20, 2017, 02:18:21 AM
Crypto isn’t the only thing that these types of hackers are after/give value to. I would think every password, sensitive financial information (SSN, account number etc.), and credit card number has some amount of value, especially if it was obtained in a non-mass hack way (as passwords stolen via the yahoo hack for example are known to be compromised and other business know to either force a reset or use extra caution when accepting said passwords).

If you live in that densely populated area then you will want to use a VPN to connect to any website you need to login to if you are using WiFi.

Totally agree but Crypto targets do offer high rewards- it's less that Krack makes it easy to directly hit you with a MITM, but it does make you easier to flag, trace and devote more time to (seen some really concerning attacks against some individuals).

On the VPN point, yeah, it amazes how many people think it's optional or do it for their laptop and not their phone (...?). See enough hacks, you get paranoid quick, and I've seen some quite amazing ones.
I guess it is fair enough to say KRACK could potentially allow an attacker to “Dox” a bitcoin user and subsequently execute a different attack that involves the theft of bitcoin.

If an attacker is not going to use a MITM attack to change a deposit address then he will need to either hack whatever device contains the private keys (difficult) via some other attack, or have physical access to said device (obtaining of which may involve the risk of arrest, violence or even death on the part of the attacker).

I would note that a few very wealthy individuals are known to own bitcoin whose addresses are presumably known or at least are generally public with minimal research who apparently have not had their bitcoin stolen.
3896  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The KRACK Wi-Fi attack...precautions? on: October 19, 2017, 12:52:52 AM
The complexity of the attack makes it unlikely that a single person would potentially allow someone to steal enough for them alone to be targeted. So I would anticipate an attacker use a more public location in which many people could get attacked in a short period of time.

Using a VPN would solve being subject to this attack provided you configure your computer to not connect to the internet outside of the VPN. Although this may subject you to other issues/attacks.

That depends where you live and how committed the attackers are- if they can narrow you down, they will. For example, here in NYC- I can probably see 50, 60 home wifi networks from desk in my home office (I live in a big building but not that high up)- that get's worse as I walk around, and there are known areas where people are more likely to be in the Crypto scene. A VPN is definitely a pre-req (generally in life IMO, but people don't like losing speed)- another alternative is put your wallets in an encrypted VM (encrypt the disk, and encrypt booting it up), have that always spin up a VPN on network connect, that allows a lot of separation, encryption and traffic obsfucation so they can't see random DNS queries going to places like 'bitcointalk.org' and know you're into Crypto thus making you a more interesting target.

The primary risk to crypto users is MITM attacks when depositing crypto (and to a lesser extent withdrawing crypto- many businesses use certain precautions that make these attacks more difficult). Assuming you aren’t using a web wallet, your private keys are safe and any transaction you sign can’t be changed (although you can be tricked into sending to an incorrect address), and unconfirmed transactions are no longer safe to accept due to the fee market, and faking a block would be very expensive and would not be guaranteed to work.
3897  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Online tool to check balances of HD addresses given a public master key? on: October 18, 2017, 07:12:07 PM
You can watch the addresses associated with an xpub key by using blockchain.info. Either by using blockchain.info's search function, or by directly accessing the link like so: blockchain.info/xpub/xpubYOURPUBLICKEY

Alternatively you can create a "watch only" wallet by importing the xpub key to Mycelium on mobile. That would be pretty much the same solution as Electrum mentioned above, just on mobile instead of desktop.
You can create a "watch only" wallet with electrum with the xpubkey. If you truly wanted to use a website, you can enter the xpubkey in the search box and it will display all the transactions associated with that key.
Thank you for repeating exactly what I posted in your own words. I am glad to see the signature spam has made its way into the technical portion of the forum. /s
3898  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The KRACK Wi-Fi attack...precautions? on: October 18, 2017, 06:41:08 PM
I would like to add, that this is already a very sophisticated approach to hijack a connection. It certainly depends on "your value", if someone is ready to play with it. If you have less than 10 bitcoins, I'd be not in fear. But if you are "rich" and paranoid ...
I think this would be more of an attack done by location, verses by specific person.

Although this may subject you to other issues/attacks.

your old email will get an email about it with a link to lock your account.
What is the procedure to get your account unlocked? What amount of resources will be put into unlocking accounts?
