What a terrible thread - no useful information, lots of spambie replies, and a load of stupid full quotes of the opening post.
It's threads like this, and the posts within them, that are reducing the reputation of Bitcoin Talk.
Come on guys - please stop it, and help Bitcoin Talk to become a great forum again.

BitcoinTalk started out as a forum to promote Bitcoin. At the time it was a revolutionary new concept in banking and payment services. It has been a success, and it has evolved into a crypto community. There are numerous ways for new members to improve their crypto knowledge, and to interact with other crypto enthusiasts. I started the Fit to Talk project for two reasons, it helps members to communicate and improve their knowledge if they do not have English as a first language. Another important reason was to help me and other merit awarders, it is extremely annoying to have to stop and try to understand posts with badly translated text. The instant solution is to ignore the poster, but that doesn't help to build an international community. This is especially true in the world of crypto, as some of the major changes are happening in the emerging economies.
The education of members has to start with the motivation of the members seeking knowledge. Unfortunately, we seem to have a large number of (newer) members who expect to receive payment for mimimal effort, and just want a simple couple of sentences to explain how to do this. I think the education of members is a secondary project, the first thing would seem to be the generation of self-improvement motivation. The merit system forced that onto many members, and hopefully we can build on this initiative.

You don't seem to have any communications problems, so why not become an active member of the community, and progress through the ranks in the normal way. You will get more satisfaction from the peer recognition, and it will take you further in the community.

I've just been re-reading the alt account threads here, and it occurred to me that it could be useful to include a reference to a master account in the profiles of legitimate alts. I use the name "Kuffy" on a variety of forums around the net, and I've just registered the name here as a protective measure. There is so much identity theft, and impersonation around at the moment, that I thought it best to block the use of the name. It is not my intention to use it for posting here.
There doesn't seem to be an easy way to link it to Jet Cash in the profile unless I start to use it. Perhaps the ICQ entry could be replaced by a primary account name. Does anyone still use ICQ?

The best way to get crypto is to either buy it, or earn it with bounty campaigns.
Another easy alternative is to sell something online, and to accept Bitcoin in payment. After all, isn't that one of the reasons Bitcoin was created.

Tell them to take it out of the payment due to you.

Margin trading is the purchase of a contract to buy or sell an asset at some time in the future. The asset does not need to exist at the time the contract is purchased. You need to leave a deposit with the broker to cover the cost of an adverse movement, and this is called the margin. The contract is closed when you purchase another contract in the future to satisfy the terms of the first contract. Any difference in price is your profit ( less brokerage fees ). A margin call is a request from your broker to cover losses when they approach the margin you deposited when the first contract was agreed.
Pyramiding is a method to increase the size of your original position by using the profits to provide a margin for additional contracts. An "uncovered bear" is a speculator who contracts to sell assets that are not owned at the time the contract is opened. A "bear squeeze" is a condition in a rising market where the bears are forced to buy assets at a loss to avoid further losses, and this in turn causes a further increase in the price to force more bears to sell.

It really is time we had a list of noteworthy new members. I'm sorry that I haven't had time to work on my Snow Eagle site, but I have had quite a few issues to resolve recently, and that includes a failing clutch on my van, hopefully that will be replaced tomorrow. I'll try to start listing qulity members over the weekend or early next week.
In the meantime, if anybody else wants to start a similar project, then we could pool the lists.

I sell domain names, and i prefer to take Bitcoin in settlement. It is a really easy International transfer, and there aren't any charge back problems. This is really the way that Bitcoin should be used. I don't care about volatility, as I don't plan to dispose of my Bitcoin during the next couple of years or more.

If you mean that you want to stop receiving notifications, then you can change the settings in your profile.

Actually the reverse is true. The new/lower ranks prey/sponge on/off the world of the established members. They seem to regard it as a right, and that is what causes much of the conflict.

On Youtube it's totally normal to ask for "thumbs up", it's a very annoying habbit once you hear that 12 times per day.
It has become so bad that I skip the start of those videos. I often quit if they do it mid-stream as well.

If you don't have a cable connection at home, then it seems you need to switch between a variety of public services, or you can tether your mobile phone.
Many public services block "non-stndard" ports, and some filter Bitcoin sites as "political". Morrisons is one such service, although they allow me to connect to Bitcoin Talk for some reason.
McDonalds and the free WiFi services provided by most shopping malls seem to be the best in my experience. This is in England of course.
The public library blocks port 8333 over WiFi, but they allow it if you can wire into their ethernet hub.

You're one that's going on ignore.
I put tunglong on ignore as well for giving him a merit. I don't want to award merits to the bounty hunting community.

It's not like the dude needs merit in order to spam the forum.
But the receipt of merit generates sMerits, and these can be used to promote alts and friends.

This is quite a difficult question to answer. Anything pegged to a fiat currency has devaluation built into it as a result of inflation, and has no underlying asset value. I believe that a payment system with an intrinsic value is the best option to safeguard your savings. Gold and Silver are the traditional options. We have now entered a new "digital" world, and this has introduced some new virtual assets - domain names are one example. I believe that Bitcoin is another example. I've had a lot of arguments with people about this, as very few seem to be able to get their heads round the fact that solving cryptographic problems can create an asset.

It's not a big issue for me, and it would only be worth spending time to change it, if it was needed to conform to community standards, It is really the neutral trust I received that made me think that there should be some standard.

I like the idea of having "away" as the last word in an alt account name, and I wish I had registered "Jet Away" instead of "Jet Aid".
If ever Theymos wants to introduce that as a rule or guideline, I'd be happy for it to be changed, especially as it might reduce the possibility of confusion over posting.
