3881  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SpaceX and the prospects of Mars colonization. on: March 25, 2019, 05:19:29 PM
From what i know the plan calls for robots to start working before any humans arrive. I'm not sure if they will go with domes or underground, if they go underground there could be the materials (and shielding) needed for habitat instead of blasting a mountain...

Perhaps this might require some sort of manned space station orbiting Mars itself, to speed up operations on the ground. So if a proper space station with artificial gravity can be built near Earth, such object could be moved to Mars. Well you could practice doing the same thing on the Moon first, where landing and taking off is much cheaper.

AI does exist, it might not have attained full sentience yet, but it is real. You should take a search online, several impressive projects exist.

There's no need for AI for any of this.

There's simply a need for extensive stockpiles of materials and functioning gardens.

But that all still begs the question.

What is all this FOR? What does it DO?

What else? SCIENCE! and technological progress.

Make the station with artificial gravity near earth, move it to mars orbit, start working the probes until a suitable settlement can be possible down there. If you don't put the humans close to the probes, then sure AI would benefit as the long delay in communication means the robots can make different decisions in the meantime. Otherwise things like digging underground would take ages.

Who knows, maybe they could even find something valuable...
3882  Other / Off-topic / Re: Life on Mars? on: March 25, 2019, 05:07:59 PM
This is the kind of thing that gets rumors about life on Mars started.

First, they don't know that the meteor is from Mars.
Second, Bacteria claims have been rejected by "the wider scientific community:"

Cool

Then i guess we will have to wait until more samples are collected from either probes or a settlement...
3883  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to delete files? on: March 25, 2019, 04:53:27 PM
In this case if you stored your private key on your hard drive it will be possible to restore it if you did not deleted it properly.
Unless you use whole disk encryption, which is supported out of the box by all major modern operating systems without the need for third-party utilities or funky bootloaders. There's no excuse for leaving data unencrypted in this day and age.

Hmm, seems nice.
As I understand it might encrypt not only the entire disc but also some separate files.

Quote
Immediate data destruction, such as simply destroying the cryptographic keys (crypto-shredding), renders the contained data useless. However, if security towards future attacks is a concern, purging or physical destruction is advised.
So in this case is there any chance to restore deleted encrypted files?
And what should I do with files that already were deleted?

P.S. I also need the same kind of app for my android and will appreciate your advice.

My question to you is, Why bother? Now that you have learned to make encrypted partitions from now on, you should just discard all your old wallets, make new ones and transfer everything there.

CCleaner and such are a pure waste of time, you should have never used windows in the first place.
And don't try those things in anything that is not a spinning magnetic drive, you will ruin it (unless that's what you want); and i don't mean the data, the storage device (flash / nand).
3884  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: power consumption on: March 25, 2019, 04:45:47 PM
You know you could pretty much cut the end of the power cable and replace it with whatever end you want, i take U.S standard cables replace the end with an EU standards where i simply ignore the earthing wire.

One might argue that jointing cables like that is not good (ok maybe) but it worked for me for years, so specially if you just wanna use it to measure power consumption for a day or two, there should be no problem.

Why do you ignore the earthing wire? Can't you use an euro with ground? Although the countries within Europe each seem to have their own little variant, most do seem to have an earthing variant of the Europlug...

3885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Funny Them, Bitcoin is still King on: March 25, 2019, 07:42:15 AM
It's a collective effort which nobody wants, to decrown bitcoin as the prime cryptocurrency, yes btc definitely has flaws when you see the painful speed on high price and volume, still the perception of pricey bitcoin is going to stay for some times, other crypto doesn't have enough publicity to be no.1, not when some collective 'efforts' is done
We all want that BTC will remain king, that's because we are afraid of a possible scenario if BTC will be dethrone.
It's its dethrone, it means the value will go down and there's a new coin in the market that is the most popular, and if we are bound to success, crypto as a whole, for sure temporarily we will suffer another big dump in the market due to panic, but like crypto always does, it corrects eventually.

The "best" altcoin is far from being "king". They can't still do a better job together, let alone a single one.

So which are the current candidates?

Ethereum? Bad karma from reversing a blockchain transaction, developers had made more mistakes prompting hard/soft forks
Ripple? Centralized, bank garbage.
Litecoin? Its ok, its got both segwit and lightning network, it would be fun to experiment true decentralized exchanging with it.
EOS? Another Ripple, meh.
Bitcoin Cash? No one cares about bitcoin cash.
Binance coin? OMG this thing got to position 7 already? An exchange token? whoa....
Tether? Hmm i don't trust these "stable coins", it lost its ground in October, apparently doing fractional reserve isn't such a good idea...
Stellar? Even more centralized Ripple clones... How can there be so many people thinking centralization is a benefit, when its clearly a weakness in security?
Cardano? I don't really know it.
3886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin network congestion (even with Bench32 add.). Raise fees if you're hurry! on: March 25, 2019, 05:18:36 AM
Today, I sent Bitcoin using Segwit eligible address (Bench32), with minimum fees.
I often sent my bitcoin out of Electrum with fee option set at minimum, because I don't have reason to hurry too much that put me to increase transaction fees.
Transactions via Bench32 addresses often finished in less than 30 minutes, or even faster.
However, it has not been confirmed fastly like usual today.
My transaction has still been unconfirmed around one hour and a half of hour.

On the other hand, there are more than 8000 unconfirmed transactions on the Bitcoin legacy network.
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/unconfirmed-transactions

To conclude, I would like to announce this current situation for someone who wanted to make transactions via Bench32 addresses today, they should inrease fees much higher than minimum figures if they have urgent needs.
  • First its bech not bench, Bech32.
  • Second transactions will go according to current traffic. Always check the traffic to guess how long will it take. The 3rd of Jan the Bitcoin network was slow as well, because people were taking all their coins out from exchanges etc, and then back again in.
  • Third the actual option in Electrum needs to be set to "mempool", so you can actually specify 1 sat/byte.

Electrum is nice to tell you "how many people" are ahead of you by showing you the "memblock size" above you. Anyone using higher fees will cut in line ahead of you; those using the same fees or less than you, will go behind you. This is a waiting queue. If you see this mb number shrink, you are getting closer to getting confirmed, once you get 1 confirmation you don't have to worry about it anymore, the following confirmations will come quick.

If you check Jochen's site and specify, say 1 sat/b, all that is painted above the 1 sat/b region is that mb number, plus those that used 1 sat/b like you but have been waiting longer than you.
3887  Other / Off-topic / Re: what configuration pc do u use?? on: March 24, 2019, 04:00:29 AM
what is the configuration of your pc?? i want to buy a anew pc please suggest me!!

My PC is from 2010, back before the national economy was ruined over here, so its not exactly a source of inspiration...

Given current PCs, i don't think you can go wrong with anything you buy no matter how hard you try, at least for common tasks. Computer gaming obviously has higher demands, but the usual internet and home office should be able to be done with anything new you are able to handle these days.

Want it portable? want a desktop? those things you have to think about. Touchscreen or not, etc.

If you are into games get something with a good nvidia, 1060 or better. RAM as much as you can afford, 16g seems the bare min these days. A small but fast SSD for your OS, and a large but slower HDD for your bulk data.

Windows can make any machine slow down into a crawl, so i wouldn't recommend that, but to each their own. Linux is my choice, and there are various companies selling PCs with Linux pre-installed.

Grew up watching her cartoons. So excited this is now available on Google Earth. It is something like a Where's Wally. Hope you enjoy!

https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/13/18263754/google-earth-carmen-sandiego-where-in-the-world

Edit 1: Have completed it. It is a pretty short game but fun nevertheless. Haven't returned to using Google Earth in a while and it definitely has improved alot.

Edit 2: Oh wow, there is a new netflix season on it https://www.netflix.com/sg/title/80167821

Never watched (or even knew) there were cartoons, but I'm very familiar with the computer game from the 80ies. Brøderbund software if i recall correctly, good times...

3890  Other / Off-topic / Re: Life on Mars? on: March 24, 2019, 03:05:12 AM
Actually there is evidence on Earth that there was life on Mars at some point, in form of microscopic fossils that came in a meteorite.
And the features above ground clearly indicate ancient bodies of fluid (ie. water), that probably evaporated long ago when the planet lost most of its atmosphere. Mars very likely had all the conditions to sustain microbial life billions of years ago. Some people argue that actually life on Earth could have come from Mars, not the other way around...

3891  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [11.2kW SOLAR/WIND/MAN] NastyMining Green Energy Project ☀️💨💪🔋 on: March 24, 2019, 12:32:38 AM
In preparation for the coming high winds from monsoon season, I have added supports to the pole to keep the turbine from swinging wildly.  I've discovered a few maintenance issues, but am working to correct them.  I think a little loctite and some new blades should do the trick.  In the meantime, the turbine is continuing to function at perhaps it's best since being installed.

Have you ever tried the bladeless turbines? I'm very interested in renewable energy because i don't think any future mining will be possible without it. Sooner than later all grid mining will cease due lower mining profits.

3892  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: March 23, 2019, 11:38:59 PM
Just to say that I have tried BOS on T9 and it didn't work.
the miner did boot and hashing but the interface kept being lost between recognizing 63 chips or 57.

As i said before, currently only the Antminer S9 and the Dragonmint T1 are supported, nothing else. This might change in the future, but for the time being, don't use it with other models.
3893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk calls cryptocurrency 'brilliant' while predicting end of paper money.. on: March 23, 2019, 07:32:35 PM
Elon Musk has definitely seen the potentials bitcoin has after making his analysis, thus calling cryptocurrency brilliant but predicting the end of paper money is something I don't think will occur. Paper money will not end but will co-exist with cryptocurrency. Well I maybe wrong but that's my opinion.

In the short term, but i think he was meaning in the long term. It won't be overnight, people will slowly use less and less cash, and then the switch to crypto is easier.
3894  Other / Off-topic / Re: Palladium edges to new record as Russia adds to supply squeeze on: March 23, 2019, 07:28:32 PM
The palladium reached a record value of $ 1,600. The price has risen after the ban on exports from Russia. The palladium has reached the highest price ever, exceeding the $ 1,600 threshold per ounce for the first time after news that Russia is planning to ban the export of this precious metal, which has raised concerns over the market already limited by supply. On top of this Russia and South Africa together produce about three quarters of the world's reserves.

The Russian Ministry of Trade and Industry announced last week that the proposed ban on the export of precious metal parts will last from May 1 to October 31. Russia is the main producer of palladium, which is mainly used in catalysts.

Prices have almost doubled from the lowest levels and have already risen by about 27 percent since the beginning of this year. It is expected that the automotive industry, the leading consumer of this metal, will have the biggest impact on further price increases. The demand for this metal has risen sharply after a diesel engine scandal that shook the world in 2015, since from that moment the sale of cars with petrol engines has risen drastically.

Palladium is traditionally used in catalytic converters whose purpose is to control the emission of exhaust gases by transforming toxic gases and pollutants into less toxic and polluting. Nearly 70 percent of the demand for palladium comes from world carmakers.

So, switching to electric cars means Russia goes bankrupt? Fun stuff.. But given their culture (which is like ours) of hyper-corruption, i don't think that Palladium will have trouble crossing the borders...

But if someone was holding Palladium, this could be a good time to sell, just saying...
3895  Other / Off-topic / Re: 34 years old and still eating mom`s food? on: March 23, 2019, 07:21:22 PM
I'm 34 years old and still eating mom`s food because of no money to buy anything, everything goes to our "working" company's bank account. Basically in a poor person. That`s why I want Tesco, Jusco, Aldi in my home country.

So Finland has unemployment problems? How about working online? Your internet is surely one of the best.

If your mother is happy feeding you, i don't see what the problem is. Good for you, one less thing to worry about...

PS: Japan is too expensive a country, don't even think about it... Unless you already have a good job position there.
3896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‘Bitcoin Is Not Money’ Because We Cannot Print It – Banks on: March 23, 2019, 06:51:41 PM
It's funny how they think it is, so does gold, silver, and livestock too before? Everyone can make simple money on how they want to implement it to the people. Paper money is just being used because it is just too light to carry compared to the previous money that people used to. Banks exist just because of this paper money and if there is no paper money how could they do exist?
Exactly, so that's why they said that bitcoin is not a money! They afraid that bitcoin will gain a high potential in the future and the fiat money will be useless, but I know that there is a big community which support bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, sooner or later bitcoin will have a high value in the market and banks should adapt that.

They will be forced to adapt or be left behind. Those with the older thinking will oppose resistance, until everybody is using Bitcoin regardless of what they say anyway.

Its like that Gandhi quote:

Quote from: Mahatma Gandhi
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
3897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BNB and BTC to be accepted in an auction of luxury property in Australia on: March 23, 2019, 03:32:10 PM
I'm surprised to see BNB mentioned, is this even accepted anywhere beyond Binance? Can you even have your own wallet (and priv keys)? This coin (token?) is way too niche to be bothering with, and it appears other exchanges want their own coin too, for whatever reason.

It is nice publicity for BNB, which makes me wonder of its pertinence in this part of the forum, only because, "and BTC" hrmm yeah right.

Beyond Binance, What is the use for BNB? Within Binance they give you a little 25% fee discount for its use, and i think that is the sole reason people would bother with it. Remove that incentive and on its own it wouldn't be able to hold against any other altcoin because i fail to see what it brings that deserves such merit.

Also this is a property, something Bitcoin is very well suited for already.
3898  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sweden on track to stop using cash by 2023 on: March 23, 2019, 02:33:32 PM
I don't think its such a big battle, i have seen it unfold before myself due to necessity rather than modernity, all thanks to hyperinflation.

All i'm saying is you need electricity to not fail for long periods. My place is largely a debit card country, because physical money is very scarce (estimated 3% of circulating money supply, and going lower every minute the gov foolishly creates more electronically).

So in my country you can kiss goodbye to commerce unless you have that PoS debit card pad thingie reader and connectivity for it. There are mobile versions too, and they tend to cost more than a smartphone. If this was possible here with rampant criminality and poverty, how could it not be possible there with such a peaceful and wealthy society? They are being very conservative by giving it 4 whole years, but they don't have to rush it either.

The main disadvantage to debit cards is that you need banks and payment processors, unlike crypto. And most people already own a smartphone, so anyone could install their favorite wallet. Or you would need to push some sort of hardware wallet with connectivity (at least wifi).

3900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People Can Now Buy Movie Tickets Using Bitcoin In Brazil on: March 23, 2019, 02:07:39 PM
I wonder how many people actually use something like this. Sure, a business can accept Bitcoin, but is there any people who use it, with its relatively slow confirmation time (unless it uses LN). It seems like the majority of people only buy or use Bitcoin for trading/investment though, not sure how this cinema will 'convince' people to use Bitcoin here.

Nevertheless, it's a good sign that more business provider accepts and recognize Bitcoin as a means of payment. Hopefully, people will start to use Bitcoin regularly too.

More than you think, because unlike other services, buying tickets for events can be done in advance with hours of planning. It would be possible to do this under most circumstances without LN. I have seen people do this with credit cards before so, it sounds like the natural next step.

Only if you are minutes before starting, then sure, it could be a bit troublesome unless they are already using LN.

But then again most cinemas here use to waste the first 30 minutes with commercials and movie trailers, so they might actually be making you a favor...

Having a "BTC accepted here" sign does bring exposure and coolness, because "new and trendy" etc...
