I and many others saw a chance for ETC when the ETH community stood up and said no, that immutability was core. But it is apparent that those from the original ETH scam hold far too much free ETC and have no goal other than to profit off of ETC. Those holders outnumber the true CypherPunks to an extent that they will take short sighted profits over the long term benefits that the ETC chain could have achieved. They laugh and dump on the Idealistic ETC holders and think in their small minded heads that they are winning when they are actually destroying the only chance the ETH platform ever had of becoming the vision of it's original goal (besides making it's insiders stinking rich with the premine).  It is no surprise that the vast majority of original eth holders are nothing more than fools who were trying for a quick money grab and have no ideals as the last few years that is all we have seen in practically the entire alt coin scene. I don't know but I believe that the DAO winner is ideologically adverse to the original ETH scam and call on him or her to take the reins of the chain they have dominated and take the responsibility of creating a roadmap for it's future. I also call on the so called "white hat hackers" to publicly allocate the funds in their possession to the development of the original chain or destroy those coins. Any other action is either creating another bailout which is not what this scene is about or theft which makes them on par with the original Dao winner (according to their own logic). That is right. If you do not like the Ethereum, just stay away. If you miss the initial offering, and still think it is good, buy some. well i dont like eth though i still do some trading with it because right now is the time that can make me some big profit out of trading eth and etc, though eth is going to lose value over time while etc will grow It is OK to trade between ETH and ETC pair. The volatility is very high, so there is potential to make good profits. You can go for a long-short strategy depending on which you think will be the ultimate winner. Of course, these are leveraged bets and your capital can get wiped out quickly if you get the direction wrong. ETH will be the ultimate winner as it is supported by most of the community. But I might trade ETC in short term. I'll hodl all my ETH and the ETC criminal coin. I won't sell my ETC criminal coins because I believe all true ETH hodlers and believers should abstain from the ETC criminal market and deny the market fluidity. |

But sometimes it takes a while for things to die, and they don't always die when you expect them to. Somebody bump this thread in a year or so.

I used to think it was impossible for Ethereum to be "game over". But after seeing ETC gaining traction, it is now getting more possible day by day that it is indeed close to "game over". ETH prefork holders should split their coins and hold ETC also.
By default all prefork ETH hodlers have exactly the same number of ETC criminal coins as their ETH bag, so no need for anyone to "split their coins". Seriously what is it about this fact that Spoetniktards fail to grasp?!? |

I would suggest that you go ahead with your "legal implications". Don't forget to update this thread with how that works out, e.g. did the lawyers laugh at you immediately or just after they took your money, etc (pun intended).

All a lawyer needs is some reasoning-by-analogy that's the kernel of a plausible theory and he's ready to go. If the legal beagle gets the idea that the Ethereum ---> forked Ethereum + Ethereum Classic is like a split of a company into two, called a "spinoff," then he has a theory he can work. 1) Show that every holder of Ethereum before the split block received equal amounts of Ethereum-Fork and Ethereum Classic; 2) Show that Ethereum Classic has a copy of The DAO which contains Ethereum Classic, and that draining this version of The Dao does not touch the Ethereum-Fork DAO's holdings in the least, thus demonstrating that the Ethereum Classic in the ETC-DAO is separate from the Ethereum-Fork held by the "real" DAO; 3) Tie (1) and (2) together by showing that token holders in The DAO pre-fork have equal amounts of The DAO tokens for each blockchain; 4) Drag in the analogy relating the one-blockchain-into-two to a corporate spinoff, for which there are lots of precedents to show that all shareholders in Company X are entitled to their aliquot shares in both company X1 and Company X2; 5) Possibly put an insta-expert on the stand to demonstrate that a) the fork reduced the value of the "real" Ethereum and b) there's a negative correlation between the value of Ethereum-fork and Ethereum Classic, which tightens up the Ethereum-as-corporate-property analogy. [This one might well be superfluous, and it is risky because the insta-expert would be subject to cross-examination.] 6) Demonstrate that The DAO is a creature of the Ethereum blockchain, has no life or value outside of it, and demonstrate that The DAO has value with the Ethereum blockchain - and that The DAO-Classic has value in Ethereum Classic. 7) Conclude by adducing standard company-split precedents that all say that a company which splits owes its shareholders aliquot stakes in both new companies - and demonstrate that this analogy is exact with respect to forked Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. So yeah, I'd say that a lawyer would take his money.  P.S. I'm no legal beagle myself, but I found this out when two mining-exploration companies were amalgamated into one (which became a producing gold mine, by the way) a long time ago. The two companies were called Golden Giant and Golden Sceptre, and they held deposits next to each other that were amalgamated into a new company called Hemlo Gold. As part of the re-org, which started off by merging Giant and Sceptre, each shareholder in each company got stock in three companies: Hemlo Gold, New Golden Giant and New Golden Sceptre. Never mind that the last two went nowhere; each shareholder was still entitled to a piece of all three because otherwise some corporate property from the temporarily-merged Giant-Sceptre company would have been unaccounted for. The only risk with the above theory comes with the kernel analogizing a cryptocurrency to a corporation. But a capable lawyer could adduce the IRS ruling that cryptocurrency is property, and hope that the judge carries the ball the rest of the way by deciding that the analogy to corporate property is legally sound. It's not a sure thing, but it's a good-enough theory for a lawyer to take his money and sleep soundly at night. But what would they charge for that??? Imagine the research involved. Better start a crowdfund/ICO for legal costs! I think Nxtblg made a valid point. And given ETC price right now, it's a several mil in white hat DAO. There is a real possibility of lawsuit against Etherium Foundation, if they decided to keep these money for themselves. the EF are not the white hatters. FFS |

These guys are quite wise, they sold the bitcoin before the hack and pump the ETC. It is quite suspicious. I hope the DAO hacker and the Bitfinex hacker are not related. Bitfinex has reported to law enforcement. We might find out later. It does not matter if they are related or not. The DAO hacker will not make much profit when the ETC collapses. If the DAO hacker sells privately through multiple small accounts, we wont necessarily see him cashing out the millions as this whole pump has currently been taking place, your logic is flawed because you assume hes going to sell or transfer the whole amount at one time, visibly We will know the trace of the DAO hacker if he sells at exchanges. He will be caught by the authorities. Again this. But what is the charge against him? Not even Vitalik himself will go after him because the attacker also has an argument that can charge Vitalik. Due to technicalities the attacker will not go to jail even if the find him. Complete and utter FUD. If that dirty thief even dares to reveal himself he will be feeling the full weight of the law against him. |

If Minecache is also holding ETC the it proves that they are scared that there is a chance that ETH could lose in this race. That is a good sign if you ask me. I encourage all ETH users to split their holdings and hold ETC also.
