3901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An advice to all Satoshi minners on: February 22, 2023, 08:13:20 PM
This section discusses mining altcoins, bitcoin in this thread  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=14.0
It's an altcoin. It has nothing to do with Bitcoin  Grin

They are using the Satoshi name. Not sure why. Maybe to get newbies confused, but obviously nothing original about them.

Quote
"SCALABLE, SECURE, DECENTRALIZED, AND OPEN TO EVERYONE"

I don't know how many times I have come across such words ever since I started learning about crypto some 5 years ago.

Ya, using the satoshi name is basically weeding out all the people with half a brain right off the bat.  That makes it easy to do things like run socials and promote the project, because anyone with half a brain would just say scam and move on.  If they were actually trying to be serious and promote this to people who can count beyond 10 without taking off their shoes, then they'd run into people who would expose them and rip their ideas apart.  It's a clever way to funnel only the idiots their way.  I used to think people behind scams like this were dumb, but I guess I can appreciate their method of trying to appear legitimate.
3902  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 22, 2023, 08:10:17 PM
Him for a bench player? That doesn't sound right at all hehe. I'm now curious about the contract they had which may justify signing a player to start from the bench. I've read that Pat had to choose between the Warriors and the Bulls. He chose the latter because he thought he could push for a playoff run. I don't know but that's kind of an aggressive statement. A guy like that wouldn't be satisfied

I doubt it will be long term.
They may just be operating an experiment here by acquiring PatBev. Just to let them know if they lack the defensive method or not.
It's possible thag theh both lack in both ends of the floor but had not realized it yet.
The combination of Zach Lavine and Demar Derozan doesnt work. Its all just a big fat lie and a trend when they went hot on the first 10 games.
Now, they need to win every game and I doubt it can be done even with PatBev around.

They had to get Patrick Beverly because Lonzo Ball appears that he might be out for a very, very long time.  Doctors around the country have been saying that his knee injury is like nothing they've ever seen before, according to today's reports.  This doesn't bode well for the Bulls, as Lonzo was a major piece of their defensive unit.  I assume this is why they brough in Patrick Beverly, who is mostly a defensive specialist.  He might be a downgrade to Lonzo, but he's the best thing they could find at the moment to try and address a major need.  I like this signing now that the Lonzo news is out, but I still think Chicago lacks what it takes to get beyond the first round of the playoffs, if they make it that far.
3903  Other / Politics & Society / Re: World War Three already started on: February 22, 2023, 05:30:10 PM
Still a couple of months to go until the start

I don’t know… It feels like it could start any moment. Nuclear treaties being suspended, US President traveling around Europe talking like a warmonger. China and Russia getting ever more close with their relationship. It feels like we’re one accident away from setting off global war. It all seemed so avoidable that I didn’t think it would go this far. With any luck WWIII will stay unofficial long enough to get the crazy old guy out of the White House and maybe a competent President will be able to resolve this peacefully. It’s clear the current administration will stop at nothing to start this war.
3904  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Demilitarization of Iran and Russia. The path to peace and tranquility on Earth on: February 22, 2023, 02:17:48 PM
Yes, I’m sure the demilitarization of those who oppose western beliefs is the answer to peace… That’s sarcasm by the way if it wasn’t obvious. I’m sure in Iran and Russia they are probably say the same thing in reverse. If they could I just demilitarize NATO then we’d have world peace… It just depends which side of the fence you live on in a majority of the time. The other guys are always the bad guys…
3905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask! on: February 22, 2023, 02:14:19 PM

it shows they are not on a healthy standing

They are probably using a lot of those daily 33 BTC to bribe someone at the SC not to have the ETF approved!
This would put their lucrative business model immediately out of the market.
I know they pretend they are pushing for an ETF conversion, but who really want to kill their own golden goose?

It is an odd position where they make more money with a shitty product that loses its investors money but claim to be trying to change said product to make less money. Simultaneously, the organization setup to protect investors from bad investment products are blocking conversion of the fund, which would benefit investors and in effect punish the issuer. It all seems backwards to the point something is fishy.
3906  Economy / Gambling / Re: What's your favorite sportsbook and why? on: February 22, 2023, 02:10:45 PM
I’ll join along with the others wearing Stake signatures and say that Stake is my preferred and currently only sports book I use. I think the reasons are because they’re making progress operating legally in the United States, they are trusted enough for superstars like Drake to partner with them, they’ve never done me wrong in any way, they support cool social media influencers, and lastly and most obvious, they pay me. 3907  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's second biggest weekly gain happened yesterday on: February 22, 2023, 02:08:08 PM
I don’t think it’s whale manipulation nor do I believe we will see a new all time high this year. The largest gains come at the bottom of markets which is what I believe we’re seeing here. The point in the cycle we’re in along with the FTX drama being behind us (as far as the damage it can do) shows that we’re well on our way to a recovery and we’re seeing a return to normal. Next year the hype will be back in full swing as we make our way to the previous high.
3908  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the bear market over? on: February 21, 2023, 08:55:43 PM
While a lot of altcoins have seen some impressive gains since hitting bottom a few months ago, I wouldn’t get too comfortable with the idea that they can’t see lower prices. It is evident that we’re headed into tough financial times globally and you don’t have to look very far. Polygon announced they’re laying off 20% of their staff which is a big signal that things don’t have a very good outlook for altcoins currently.
3909  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tip and Tricks about when to buy or when to sell? on: February 21, 2023, 08:14:13 PM
Maybe I’m crazy, but I buy altcoins when I need to use them. That saves me from 99% of the altcoin scams because most of them have no real reason you’d ever need to purchase them. When you start buying things you want to use, you find that you own good things that are usable.

I also think a good time to sell is usually when you feel like bragging about having bought it.
3910  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why Do Gamblers Do This? on: February 21, 2023, 08:10:46 PM
In this forum and other forums where gambling is one of the topics of discussion, one of the recurrent topics is people who write about how their gambling addiction has ruined their lives. We usually encounter topics like "Gambling ruined my life,"  "I lost all my life savings to gambling,"  "I gambled away my entire salary," etc. Then they go on to tell a sad tale. It makes me wonder: why do gamblers tend to wait until they have suffered a catastrophic loss or a string of losses before quitting or seeking help?

That’s just how people work… They do something so dumb, like gamble away their savings and have nothing to show for it but a sad story. So they use what they got in exchange for their savings, a story, to tell others. Maybe a part of them think someone will take pity on them and give them some money, or maybe they think the tale of their gambling risks will earn them respect. Who knows…
3911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On Ordinals: Where do you stand? on: February 21, 2023, 02:53:36 PM
My question is: is there any solution o the "double spend" by the inscription write?
If I buy a "bored ape", is there a way to prevent the issuer from minting 1,000 of such inscriptions and defrauding the buyer? Each of them could have some invisible change to trick any SHA256 checks on those.

In short, no.  However, you can use the blockchain to see which was inscribed first.  This seems to be the way that NFTs are valued.  For example, there's nothing stopping me from copying the entire Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection and reissuing it on the same chain.  It would actually be extremely easy to do and not take much time.  The NFTs could contain the exact same links and the images would be literally the exact same images.  However, would they still be Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs?  No.  So my assumption is that the blockchain would work the same way.  Your point is a good one though that the marketplaces should figure out.  I'd imagine some sort of search of the blockchain to make sure the metadata doesn't already exist on chain when the items are put up for sale would be a good feature to have.
3912  Economy / Gambling / Re: Diamond 5 Stake, account was hacked on: February 21, 2023, 02:48:24 PM
It sounds like you made a bad mistake and paid the price, but it also sounds like Stake did their part to freeze the funds to keep the loss at a minimum as soon as it was possible for them to do so (once you alerted them).  This is a huge loss and a terrible situation, but I'm not sure Stake owes you anything.  If they did, I could only imagine how many inside jobs would suddenly happen with users wanting payouts.  Did you ever have the frozen funds returned?  While I think it's unlikely you'll be able to recover anything, if Stake saved a large amount of money from being stolen from you, you really owe them some gratitude in my opinion.

As I've said a million times...  Stay off telegram.  It should be branded the chat network preferred by scammers.
3913  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 1oz .999 Silver "Bitcoin" Binary Rounds on: February 21, 2023, 02:35:15 PM
The author of Rich Dad Poor Dad (one of the first books on investing I ever read) has been pretty vocal lately about precious metals and Bitcoin as a safeguard against a coming recession.  He's said that silver is one of the most underrated investments of our generation and expects it to jump to $500 per ounce in our lifetime.  If that's true, then now might be a great time to make sure you've got some real physical silver in your portfolio and not ETFs.  Holding Bitcoin is a great idea, but being diversified isn't so bad either.  Smiley

3914  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we now on Crypto bull run? on: February 21, 2023, 02:30:16 PM
If there is anyone who is still not convinced that the bottom was $16K, take a look at a 3-month chart.  That's about as bullish as any chart I've seen in Bitcoin's history.  However, if that isn't enough to convince you and you don't believe in the 4-year cycle of Bitcoin's price, I have a feeling the next move up to $30K might be enough to get you off the sidelines and chasing gains in FOMO fashion.  I believe we're about to see a violent move upward that will spark a lot of news reports that Bitcoin is back and chase a lot of folks off the sidelines.  You'll want to get in before that if you aren't already.
3915  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 21, 2023, 02:28:03 PM
Somebody does not want us to break through 25k and it is starting to piss me off.

My guess is that one of the many crypto ponzi companies needs more time to buy some of their customer coins back to prolong the life of their ponzi.

On lower time-frame we already had the tests of resistance x2 with ascending support (higher lows x2), so was one step away from confirming ascending triangle structure. It's hardly surprising as on macro time-frame $25K is resistance (so price get's rejected short-term). On lower time-frame, price remains bullish, so there are higher-lows. I'm very grateful it's panning out like this, even if fifth day testing $25K now.

Breakout target is +6.6% to $26.8K, so much better than popping above $25K and facing strong selling pressure up to $26K, then getting rejected. Ideally bears will be taking a step back once the third touch-point of support is confirmed. Nothing to do with anything else imo. Dotted line is otherwise how the triangle could form, but otherwise conservatively price could re-test around $24.2K and still be within bullish structure.

That certainly looks like the triple top I was talking about the other day.  If you didn't get in at $16K when it bottomed almost exactly in line with the 4-year cycle expectations and you're still on the sidelines, you're going to want to be buying this pullback.  While a double top is commonly considered a bearish sign, a triple top is considered bullish.  Basically, it means that the buyers aren't being discouraged and will continue to accumulate at high prices.  This likely indicates that resistance isn't going to hold and we will move above $25K in the coming weeks.  Looking at the chart, it appears highly likely that we're going to see $30K next month.  Whatever you do, don't short this market.
3916  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 21, 2023, 02:13:03 PM
Maybe not a starter but if he can lead the 2nd team then it's still all good for the Clippers. As long as he can contribute and maybe if they are on the lead, preserve it while Kawhi and the starters are taking their rest. WB and Hyland, that will be a scary fast-paced game with both players attacking the rim.

Honestly, Westbrook is so lucky that he landed on this team and L.A Clippers has been doing great this season and with his addition to the team, I'm sure he can contribute more and push their performance into something new high-level play. If he can do well here, I guess this is their chance to play more aggressively and sufficiently to get through the NBA finals. I'm so excited to see what kind of roles he will take it that team and how will they look forward to beating the Nuggets, Grizzlies, and Mavericks.

You can never be sure honestly, Westbrook was expected to contribute with the LA Lakers and yet he failed our expectations. It's better not to expect so much, Westbrook does have the talent, the problem is the chemistry with his teammates, so hopefully, he will finally fit with the Clippers.

He might also get a problem on LA Clippers since Kawhi is there and George they are the primary option on the rotation of Clippers so I don't think Westbrook will still fit in that knowing that he used to be the main guy on the team. We already see his performance decline so bad on Lakers and this might go repeat in Clippers if he can't adjust on his new role. This is big challenge for Clippers on how they can work out with Westbrook if this deal will finalized.

Yes, I was also the same impression that Westbrook will not be a perfect team that already has the alpha on them. He was good in Washington because Beal was out almost half of the season So Westbrook was the main man, and so when Beal got back, they got to the playoff that year.

But we all know that he got traded to the Lakers and he didn't sit with the chemistry of Lebron and other experience that season, with Carmelo and Dwight and other veterans. Now he has been traded to a team with Kawhi and Paul George so we are not sure if he will blend or will distort the chemistry of the team since they are going well already.

We will only know once they are already playing together,

If he can work it out with PG and Kawhai, then they might get a good chance in winning games.
PG and Kawhai are working well when they are both healthy, adding Westbrook might be another
thing for coach Lue he was able to coach great players way back with the Cavs,
let see if how he will create plays for his stars when they are all inside the court together.

I think that PG and Kawhi will probably be happier with Russell Westbrook than they were with John Wall because Westbrook actually plays.  I think his work ethic might even be good for Kawhi, who let's face it, doesn't exactly give it his all 82 games a year...  PG and Russ have history together also and seem to really respect and enjoy playing with each other, so I think that will go a long way towards keeping them happy and the team with good chemistry.  Can they win a championship together though?  I don't think so.  The facts are that they're all getting older and I think it's about time for the younger teams like Denver to start taking over the league.
3917  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 20, 2023, 05:50:05 PM
I’m a little bummed to hear that Kevin Love is going to sign with the Miami Heat. I’d really hoped to see him reunite with LeBron in Los Angeles or I think he would’ve been a great addition to the Warriors. I think Westbrook signing with the Clippers should be good. He’s got history with Paul George and Kawhi wanted a point guard so that seems like a decent fit.
3918  Other / Meta / Re: The curious case of sticky topics created by authors with negative Trust on: February 19, 2023, 08:19:32 PM
With the state of the trust system currently, I wouldn't worry too much about this.  Hell, I've been trusted with millions of dollars in trades on this site now (hundreds of millions worth of BTC at today's valuation), and I have negative trust from users that some of you think are honest in spite of never having lost a single satoshi of anyone's, ever...  So I have a hard time thinking about users who may not have my extensive list of trusted feedback being blacklisted by dishonest members who got themselves into DT, usually through things other than real world Bitcoin activity.  When DT became more about politics than safety for end users, it stopped being useful for this sort of blacklisting.
3919  Other / Meta / Re: Why not force bounties off site? on: February 19, 2023, 07:58:42 PM
I think that advertising campaigns (bounties) are likely the main factor that keep people active here.  The little real Bitcoin activity that does occur here is likely fueled by these campaigns.  Removing them would probably cause a massive drop in user activity and all but eliminate real Bitcoin use on this site.  Sure, the forum is full of people posting who probably never even installed a Bitcoin wallet but pretend to be experts, but it is what it is.  A lack of honesty in posting here and no moderation for truth has chased a huge majority of knowledgeable users from this site and I don't think they'll be coming back to give a second chance even if things did change...  So do you want a forum full of active spammers, or a ghost town?  Those are pretty much the only remaining choices given the management of this forum.
3920  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 19, 2023, 07:49:26 PM
Mac McClung took home the dunk contest trophy and rightfully so. He also had the dunk of the night with a 720 which was absolutely ridiculous. That was easily the best dunk since Aaron Gordon’s under the legs over the mascot dunk. This year’s contest was a big step up from last year’s. Hopefully next year we get to see Zion Williamson do something special…
Who the hell is this Mac McClung guy? I have never seen him before, but that dude just came in and bust the whole slam dunk contest open. I know that it is not looking good for the other players, we do not have any good dunkers in the league that is willing to participate anymore due to getting way too much backlash, so only the ones we see accept, but this dude could have outdunked anyone in the entire league.

Three point contest was a bit of a let down as well, nobody really played all that well, many players missed a ton like Randle, and I feel like Dame was obviously the best one, he deserved that one. I am not going to even talk about skills one, that one was terrible to watch.

I believe he was originally signed by the Lakers to be a replacement for Alex Caruso but didn't live up to being able to perform as well as Caruso.  This was the beginning of some terrible moves that make the Lakers go from NBA Champions to not being able to make the playoffs.  Getting rid of Caruso and Dwight Howard was like ripping the heart out of that team and thinking you could just replace them with scrubs like McClung and Montrezl Harrell.  I know Dwight Howard has his locker room issues, but getting rid of Caruso is a mistake that the Lakers are hoping to correct this offseason, as there are rumors they have been trying to get Caruso back, and they should.  Him and LeBron were amazing together.
