3901  Economy / Speculation / Re: 17 is the new 12 on: January 25, 2013, 05:19:06 PM
Seeing as how the block reward went from 50 to 25, 24 is the new 12.  We're just not there yet and people selling off BTC while the price edges higher is delaying it.  They really ought to keep it until 23-24-ish to make the most.

BTC must flow from weak hands to strong hands before higher prices can be sustained.
3902  Economy / Speculation / Re: Relax people. on: January 25, 2013, 05:03:16 AM
The train is suspending temporarily to take bunker and replenish provisions. As soon as those whose DCAs are low have sold off we shall resume our journey.

No, the Bitcoin dressin is starting to backtrack... The 50$ light in the end of the tunnel was rather the approaching diesel train of reality...

Good luck with your trades Wink.

It looks the same!   :-P

Ready to buy @ 15-14 tomorrow?

And fly to 25!

Cheers!

We worked off our overbought condition much more thoroughly this time.
3904  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: January 25, 2013, 01:50:02 AM
On the 182-day list, the 33 past 182-day periods have, one over the other, broken the all-time high. Will this streak last to tomorrow?

1. 2012-07-27 through 2013-01-24 W. Avg: 11.99

Yes, I believe we'll stay above 12.

That was said the last time price crashed after a big rally. The price subsequently fell to $8.

Edit: Of course, we don't actually need to stay above 12. Staying above $9 would be enough to ensure a new record high.

There's no longer pirates in these waters.... or are there?
3905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: January 25, 2013, 01:48:42 AM
While I share the belief that bitcoin or something very like it will play a major role in the future, I think the road there is going to be a lot rougher.

I imagine we will see a huge boom then a bust, after that those who stick around will build the meaning full economy that will allow bitcoin or its successor to dominate.

I don't care about the busts. I am riding this pig wherever it takes me. If it tanks, I'll have a helluva story to tell. I'm sick of half measures. I'm swinging for the fences and If I strike out, so be it.  I won't be some mediocre drone living a life of quiet desperation. I believe in bitcoin and I'm going for broke, knowing the risks.

Indeed.

From the date I guess he got what he was going for.

Given the amount of money they "earn" vs the amount of value they produce, it's ridiculous they havent been strung up in the streets decades ago. Ignorance of the masses is the only thing stopping this occurring today.

This is not responding to the point of my post.

There exist bankers who do produce enormous amounts of value. Take an investment banker who makes the correct decision as to where to allocate a billion dollars. Say the company he allocated it to has a production efficiency 30% above average, and any commonly available system would have selected a company with "just" normal efficiency.

The banker in effect created productivity equivalent to the value of 300.000.000 dollars! Even if he gets paid a hundred million for it, that's still a damn good deal for everyone.

We can go into detail as to why such things can happen and how often they should happen, but that's statistics and should not affect how we see the moral issue. It's also not something for anyone to judge on a whim; we'd need a rigorous model which nobody might have yet.

Again: please distinguish between bankers who just do their jobs and those who actually cheat their way to other peoples' money! Earning a lot of money does NOT equal being an evil person or being harmful to society, because trade and investment are NOT zero-sum games. People who don't make that distinction just aim for stealing from the wealthy and sharing the loot. That's immoral, and very damaging to society.

Just go hit on the central bankers who print too much money and even buy government debt with it. And on those who got ties to politics and take "bail-outs" tailored for their poor little special bank. THAT is immoral.

the problem with your answer is that it has made you and every honest banker out there believe that billion dollar deals are "normal" and that 100 million dollar paydays are "normal" for an investment banker deal.  that's ridiculous.  b/c of the systemic corruption from the fact that the banking industry in general has gotten hold of the printing presses in every country doesn't make huge payoffs for even the honest bankers sustainable or fair compared to the menial salaries for say what a doctor or lawyer make in comparison.  it used to be the other way around and i would argue those 2 professions create just as much or more value for their patients or clients as an investment banker.

this control of the money supply is precisely why a millionaire is no big deal anymore; a billionaire is the new "normal"; at least for a bankster.  even the honest ones.  those types of payoffs are unreachable for anyone else in society.

No. no its not. You should stop using words you dont understand.
They're both frauds and people behind them stand to draw the money. Those are two fundementals that i know.

Um, no.

Off course you don't provide any personal argument that they are not on the subject themselves. Ok i wont be replying.  Ok this is totally non relevant to the subject itself unsustained irrelevant and going of to ad homonym.  It's irrelevant both pump and dump and " bubbles" are "frauds" derive from frauds. . are run and instigated by fraudsters.  it's not that hard.

Pump and dump is fraud.  Bubbles just happen.

bzzard, how about an option for MtGox-EUR? Thats what I was missing and why I haven't subscribed since Sad
Some time ago there was a big mess because MtGox started to blocking me because I've made too much queries on MtGox orderbook API (which is of course ridiculous when you know on what servers MtGox is working).
Long story short, I've decided to go only USD to not "overuse" this API. So far this strategy works.

I can turn back EUR, but only with not limited version 0 of depth API - https://mtgox.com/api/0/data/getDepth.php?Currency=EUR  (as you see this is very short price range).
I've tried to talk many times on this topic with MtGox but I don't see any obligation from them to resolve this problem (just standard answers, no response to my suggestions how to resolve this).
There was also talking on some payments for using API, but I've got no word on this topic to this day.

If Gox had half a brain they would be pulling in most of their income from data feeds.

So I need to know how many customers would like to start accept Bitcoin before we just start offering this.

I agree with hazek's comments above, and would like to add that even if that was the right question to ask, the only way to know is to poll your customers.  That might give you some data you can use, but of course would take time and resources.

You're in the industry, so you should know what kinds of problems people have with the traditional methods.  Sell bitcoin as a way to avoid those pitfalls (account closures, clawbacks, etc).

hows it just drop 3 bucks magically?
it was 19 then 16
did some drug dealer need half a mil real quick and firesale all his bitcoins

Someone with BTC wanted USD... simple as that.  Anything else is 99.99999% likely to just be your imagination.

I am not very good with the blockchain, but it would be interesting to note if  the bitcoin-days-destroyed changed significantly with the sale

QR Code are a start, yes. But still not many people know how QR codes work, and not many people have a QR Code App on their phones. Fundamentally, adoption is also limited by what big companies like Apple use policies to prevent BTC Apps to show up on the app store as well. The only way to get a good? wallet app is if you jailbreak your phone.
And the app is questionable in quality at best.

Blockchain app works great without jailbreak.  It's been in the app store for close to a year.  I still hate Apple, but this is no longer an issue.

Sure, you could just poll blockchain.info or something, but I still don't see the point (also I hate polling and avoid it whenever possible).  Also, you need to check that you were the sender of the transaction, otherwise your dog might start buying bitcoins so he can get food whenever he wants (or you piss someone off and they dump all your food).

Holy cow! Solar Panels for Bitcoin?! Finally! Now we just need someone to offer wind turbines for those of us who don't have the sunlight Cheesy

Maybe someone knows that something is going to happen, and that there are not many places to hide:

More than $114 billion walked out of the biggest United States banks this month, and nobody’s quite sure why.

LOL! VIVA LA REVOLUTION! VIVA!

Most Chinese solar companies are scammers using second  rate materials discarded from the Garden LED lighting business
bit-coin simply provides them a way to get money and not be tracked... or gain refunds.

Nice story, but this is not a Chinese solar company.  It is a California based retailer.  They don't manufacture, just resell and do system designs.

It would be funny to send bitcoins to a specific address that triggers a release of pet food. Then you could feed your pet from anywhere in the world  Cheesy

Why do you need to pay your robot to feed your dog when you could just put it on a timer?  If you really need the flexibility a simple password authenticated http server would require dramatically less hardware than a bitcoin wallet.

What? Market had swallowed >150k coins dump in a day and we are still at 17? How?

The bulls that have been buying just caught a lucky break that will allow them to keep accumulating.

to all the btccharts users; are you happy with their service and does the price keep up with Clark Moody?

I used to use it all the time when it was free.  I finally bit the bullet and got myself 90 days.  It is normally quite quick to update and I'm pretty happy.  I just wish the price was a little lower.
