I think I can see what he's doing now. Putting lots of small sell bids at lower and lower prices to give the impression that the coin is worth less, while at the same time putting in a lot small buy bids above this price tempting people to sell their coins. Possibly has a buy wall set up right underneath to catch all the weak hands.

If his account was hacked why didn't he alert anyone?

Particle >>>>>>>>>To the moon>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>then exchanges
seriously though i kind of like this coin
So do I, actually. I like owning it. Not quite sure why. It's quite cool, I guess. it kind of reminds me of primecoin but not though i don't know only thing i would change is making it GPU resistant so it has a chance to live and get more people wanting to be involved in it. I'm not sure if it does anything particularly innovative compared to other Quark clones, but the dev was talking about some new ideas for the coin. So, if I see him active and keen to develop the coin then I will hold onto my coins.

Cryptsy should add a delay if user post more than 3 offers in sequence for a small period of time.
Cryptsy doesn't care. It still profits from the trades. It has no financial motivation to prevent it. They get away with it because people don't recognise the buy/sell patterns, they're buying blind. Hope that soon we get more exchanges. Monopolists can do what they want Altcoins end up so quickly on exchanges now. Because it's basically a Scrypt version of Bitcoin it's a profitable coin to do this to. The only way around it is for more people to be mining/buying Catcoin.

So someone increased price this way or what? Someone with a lot of coins keeps pumping and dumping.

Well, if there's ever a legal injunction, it would be interesting to see how they'd seize the coins.

should be adding catcoin in the next few days That's pretty cool. Hope it happens. One more reason for Catcoin. Not a gambler myself, but we need services. i thought we could use some good news Hi, I was actually thinking of it last night. I will try and add it within the next few days or by end of the week. Thanks for the interest. that was the response i got this afternoon... on a side note someone needs to write an article called Cryptsy a site for trolls "trading at it's slimest" and then go on to how one person can manipulate the pricing and even troll off all prospective buyers i think that if it were submitted and published to a few cryptoblog they might change the way their trade system works cause right now it's broken The coin exchanges are unlikely to listen. It's a free market system, and free market = more profit for them. I agree the tactics can be very damaging to a coin, but I've seen it said lot of times on this forum that Cryptsy really doesn't give a damn about that. Anyway, I'm off for the night. Perhaps we should look at some other sites that accept cryptocurrency and ask that they list Catcoin. Would really help I think.

Thanks for your replies. So where does the 10 minute block time fit into this?
The block time is hard coded into the coin's design, but can be changed for any released coin. Basically, it's sort of the anchor that the coin is attached to. It ties in with the difficulty rate. The network always aims to generate a block every time minutes, and after the next waypoint in the blockchain where the difficulty adjusts, it adjusts based on the hashrate on the network to keep in line with that blocktime. So if the hashrate is high, it makes blocks harder to mine so it takes around 10 minutes to solve. Less hash power, less difficult blocks but still take 10 minutes based on that hashpower. So the blocktime is directly related to the difficulty in that respect.

I have a question about the block time vs difficulty. (sorry I'm a relative newbie here) Pretend (totally pretend) hashrate went down to just a few miners @ 10 m/hash continuing to mine catcoins.....though the difficulty is 176, would they still be awarded a block every 10 minutes? Or is the 176 difficulty a kind of floor that dictates how low the network difficulty can drop in an attempt for the network to award a block every ten minutes? if the latter is true that would indicate that there is an ideal network hashrate to keep mining profitable and the rest of the miners desiring to work for the benefit of catcoin would (as mentioned earlier) go and mine DOGE and sell for CAT. Any thoughts on this?
If the block where the difficulty retargets is never reached, then the difficulty would stay the same. The difficulty dictates how much hash power it takes for a block to be mined.

I'm looking at building a new rig, and this may be what I need. I'll be watching with interest. I'm in the UK, though, so will need to know what the shipping costs would be.
The fully built and drilled unit is what I'd want if I were to buy one. Not sure yet, but interested.

Theoretically, if the coin supply becomes low due to the decreasing hashrate, shouldn't the value of the coins increase? It's not the miners creating the demand, right? So what creates demand in people buying currency? This demand will drive up the price, which will in turn make the coin more profitable, and bring back the miners.
So it seems that the easiest way to get the hashrate back is to get more people buying CatCoin. Right?
Noticing a lot of negativity over the last few pages that isn't really productive. The coin is not dying. The coin is in a phase. Phases change. No coin has linear growth. No coin. This thread now has 250 pages. Tell me it's dying again. Look at all the crapcoins in this forum, and then remind me if the coin is doing so badly why this thread is continually on the first page. This isn't a pump and dump coin like all the rest.
It's in a transitional phase. People need to stop panicking. If it was dead this topic would be dead. It's not, so it isn't.
As soon as Bitcoin starts allowing chargebacks and kowtowing to governments, this coin will rocket. Lal. Well, at the Bitcoin conference this year they were talking about a hardfork due to the ASICs problem and the potential of someone with enough ASICs to control 51% of the network; http://thegenesisblock.com/go-fork-yourself-life-after-a-bitcoin-hard-fork/This would literally split Bitcoin down the middle. You'd end up with two different coins instead of one, and then it's all the play for.
