3921  Other / Meta / Re: Lots of one-liner bots on: January 26, 2021, 02:01:19 PM
I've noticed this as well, and I have to say I was quite surprised after not seeing as much of that kind of one-line nonsense as I used to.  Before the merit system (and probably even well into 2019), it seemed like those one-line shitposts were everywhere--which is what made me want to pull my hair out.

Luckily this looks like an isolated incident, and I don't think it's going to become a trend (hopefully).  Just report the garbage to the moderators as you see it, and it'll probably get dealt with promptly.  I've reported about three posts for being of extremely low quality in the past day, something that I hadn't done in a long time.
3922  Other / Meta / Re: Public request to Theymos for a name change on: January 26, 2021, 01:37:46 AM
You deserve the name: The Sceptical Chymist, This is a leganda name in 1661, i hope you can use that name soon and it is granted.
<snip>
I think you have good reason to replace the new name, you still have something to do with the current name Pharmacist replaced with The Sceptical Chymist, very deserved.
still in the category of chemistry and pharmacy has something to do, not far.
I almost have a degree in chemistry, too, but I abandoned that course of study with three electives to go some years ago.  Tuition was no joke at the school I was attending, and I didn't really need the degree.

Proudest accomplishment:  I crushed both semesters of physical chemistry.  It was not easy, and now I know why there's bumper stickers like this:

That shiznit was no joke, although I always had a mania for organic chem.  Anyway, I'm a chemist (or was, at least) in the British sense of the word and almost a chemist (BS level) by the traditional defintition.  And man am I skeptical.

Thanks for the kind words.
3923  Economy / Economics / Re: Marathon Invests $150 Million In Bitcoin on: January 26, 2021, 01:28:44 AM
This was a penny stock before the price of bitcoin sent crypto mining companies through the roof. Do your homework on this, this isn't a company I'd invest in personally.
I believe it when you're telling me it was a penny stock--and they did do a few reverse splits if I'm interpreting the data correctly.  I always get confused if 1:4 is a one share-->four shares split, or if it means the opposite.  I assumed in the case of Marathon that they were reverse splits given that there was no justification for a traditional split, as the stock price was nowhere near high enough.

I'm not really interested in the company and don't plan to research it further, but I do want to track its progress as I do with a few other blockchain-oriented companies or ones like MSTR that own tons of BTC.
3924  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: January 26, 2021, 01:21:54 AM
PE ratio is not a metric relevant to valuing a bond investment.
Yes, I understand that P/E is used for stock evaluation (and I'll admit that when I wrote that post I'd momentarily forgotten that he hadn't bought the stock)--but wouldn't value investors still shy away from even buying debt from companies with a metric that high?  It still means that essentially the stock is expensive--but I'll also admit that I don't understand bond trading all that well, or at least how value investors know which bonds are attractive.
3925  Economy / Economics / Re: Marathon Invests $150 Million In Bitcoin on: January 26, 2021, 12:20:37 AM
Huh, there's another company I'll have to add to my stock watchlist.  I did see this when I looked them up just now:

....which may mean nothing, or it might mean they're headed toward being delisted from the NASDAQ.  Looking at their chart, they've already had to do more than one reverse split, which is never a good omen.  It's nice that they bought all of that bitcoin, but they're a stock I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

I wonder if they're hoping bitcoin will explode and thus boost their stock price a little bit (I can't imagine not hoping that, but I'm also wondering if that's the sole reason for the purchase.
3926  Other / Meta / Re: Public request to Theymos for a name change on: January 25, 2021, 11:40:33 PM
If you accept to get new nickname "Sceptical Chymist" without the The, why not just remove "The" from your current username. "Pharmacist" sounds fine to me. (then you will not be TP as Vod says  Cheesy )
just my two cents.
Then I'll just be "P".  Lol.  I don't want the moniker The Pharmacist any more, and it took me a good deal of thinking to come up with something I'd be comfortable with (never an easy task when choosing a username, at least from my experience).

Anyway, Theymos might not even respond to this, which I'm prepared for--and I'm also prepared for a "no" answer.  That'd suck, but I'll survive and won't hold a grudge if that's the case.  I know it's rare for members to change their usernames, and I'm no one special that Theymos would feel the need to grant the favor.
3927  Other / Meta / Re: Public request to Theymos for a name change on: January 25, 2021, 06:40:55 PM
I support this, The Pharmacist is not a real pharmacist and therefore should not mislead the members into thinking he is one.
I am, actually (or was; I don't practice anymore).

Do people keep trying to buy drugs from you for BTC? That would explain it.
Lol, that's funny--this is the first PM I ever received on the forum:

What pills can you sell me?
Don't know whatever happened to that guy, because he's been inactive since 2016.  Hopefully he didn't get the wrong pills or something.   Wink

TP to TSC? Just to inform you, TSC is a well known place in Bangladesh.
You could just call me Chymist as a nickname or just copy/paste the entire username like I sometimes do with really long ones.

And I thank all of you who are supporting me.  That's not something I expected when I started this thread.

Yon need to have a SOLID reason to change it, it won't happen if you are just bored of your old username.
I actually do have a solid one, but it's one that I'd rather not share--though if Theymos asked me, I would certainly tell him.

EDIT:  I would even be happy with just "Sceptical Chymist" without the The.  It's probably cleaner that way anyway.
3928  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should BESTCHANGE pay proven willing scam facilitators like nutildah to post? on: January 25, 2021, 02:57:05 PM
Guess what, you are super fuckin' stupid. I've never scammed or extorted anybody ya fuckin idiot. Go suck horse cocks.
What's interesting is that he linked to a thread by TOAA, which was an obvious alt account of cryptohunter--and I suspect OP is yet another, as he keeps trying to stir up old shit that nobody cares about except for him.

I don't know a damn thing about Bestchange, by the way.  Is there a link somewhere in this thread pointing to the background on them or if I search in the Scam Accusation section, am I going to get a bunch of hits?  For the life of me I don't remember the name of that exchange (which is what I'm assuming it is).

Nutildah is an upstanding member of the forum.  Even if he's promoting Bestchange (unless he knows it to be a scam).
3929  Other / Meta / Re: Public request to Theymos for a name change on: January 25, 2021, 03:30:01 AM
I support The Pharmacist, he has done a lot here on Bitcointalk I hope you get your request granted, very interesting username, is it connected to Robert Boyle's influential writing?
Yes indeed, and in my original PM to Theymos I mentioned that I wanted to keep the spelling just as Boyle wrote it.

I'd want one too if my nickname also mean toilet paper.  Tongue

Give TP his name change!
Well that wasn't one of the personal reasons, but I chuckle every time someone abbreviates my username as TP.  Thanks for the support, Vod.
3930  Other / Meta / Public request to Theymos for a name change on: January 25, 2021, 02:31:06 AM
Hi Theymos,

I sent you a PM a couple of months ago requesting to change my username, and I did not hear back from you.  Since I don't know if your silence means "no" or not, I'm again humbly requesting my username be changed to The Sceptical Chymist.  I have good, personal reasons for asking for this change, and I'd kindly ask that you consider granting my wish.

Thanks.  No hard feelings if the answer is no.
3931  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTB] Bitcoins anonymously on: January 25, 2021, 02:25:29 AM
Just a couple of posts into your first WTB here, eh? Welcome to our scummy little corner of the Internet. Smiley
No kidding, right?  Hopefully OP has learned the lesson not to trust impersonators, but I'd also add that you have to be very careful who you deal with even if they're who they say they are.  We've had trusted members of the forum scam people for relatively low amounts and then they just disappear.

Bitcoin attracts scammers like you wouldn't believe, and there are a lot of them right here on bitcointalk (and scams aren't moderated, either).

BTW, Dire: how did you get that special "D" symbol in your name.  That's pretty cool.
3932  Economy / Reputation / Re: blurryeyed, Unfair negative About Trust on: January 24, 2021, 11:32:56 PM
OP, first thing is that you should remove your retaliatory feedback on blurryeyed.  I get that you're pissed off, but you're basically doing the same thing you've charged him with doing (and I'm not saying your wrong there, either).

Second, when was the last Yobit campaign?  There isn't one running now is there?  I noticed you're not wearing any Yobit advertisement in your sig space now, and I hadn't heard of Yobit having a campaign in months.  Regardless, I do think that blurryeyed ought to reconsider his negative on you.  Yobit is controversial indeed, and even a lot of DT members swear they're a scam--but if you don't consider their stupid investbox scheme and their newest Ponzi thing, they're not a straight-up scam exchange.

Not that I would vouch for them, because I won't.  They've never scammed me, but I've read the horror stories about their customer service and think they're one of the shittiest exchanges out there (if not one of the scammiest IMO).
3933  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Help me Hitbtc on: January 24, 2021, 10:44:17 PM
Don't they ask for TXID's? Screenshots can be manipulated, I'd suggest you go through your incoming transactions or even the sellers and ask them to provide the TXID, it's your best shot. Another thing is to keep a copy of all addresses you send money to, so you can manually get your TXIDs if necessary.
OP should probably do all of those things, but from what I've read in other threads and based on my own experience none of it is going to help.  HitBTC are scammers, plain and simple--and if, for some reason, OP does get this issue resolved, I would encourage him to report back here and followup on this thread to let the community know it's possible to NOT get scammed by those jokers.

Just as an aside, the list of exchanges on any altcoin's website should not look like this:

That's from Curecoin's website, by the way.
3934  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is Nano Ledger S still safe after the data breach? on: January 24, 2021, 07:51:33 PM
I know a little bit about how Ledgers work, but I have to confess that the paranoid little parakeet that lives on my left shoulder kept whispering that I was in danger.  Sometimes that little bugger just won't shut up--but after asking a question about this in another thread I was reassured that my meager crypto stash is safe.

But man, Ledger really did seem to take a hit to their reputation because of this brouhaha.  They're still my favorite hardware wallet, though I haven't received my opendimes yet.
3935  Economy / Reputation / Re: Who give us Justice? on: January 24, 2021, 05:26:12 PM
OP, the bottom line is that very few senior members here like bounty hunters very much, and don't trust them not to be greedy little cheaters.  There's a reason for that mistrust: bounty hunters have been caught left and right cheating with alts in bounties since the beginning of bounties.

Also, trust isn't moderated and it isn't likely anyone is going to stand up for you and give you a counter-positive.  It wouldn't matter unless they were on DT anyway, and you aren't likely to garner any sympathy from DT members.  Just suck it up and move on.  You think there's been a miscarriage of justice, but I'm guessing not many members are going to chime in here and agree with you.
3936  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos please sMerit 1:1 on: January 24, 2021, 04:12:53 PM
Great idea !
With a ratio of 1:1, user A can give 1 merit to user B. Then user B will give 1 merit to user A. Then user A... Ding Legendary ! Effort: 0.
Don't you see the problem with this idea ?
Lol.  I don't think OP does see the problem with that or the genius in the merit system setup that included merit decay as it's distributed.  If there was a ratio of 1:1, the merit system would be essentially useless.

If something on this forum can be abused, someone's going to figure out a way to abuse it and others will follow.  And with this suggestion, it'd take about a millisecond for account farming to begin again and merit abuse would take just a little less time.  Sorry OP, not gonna happen.
3937  Economy / Reputation / Re: Unchanged alt remains cheating in the DeFi-For-You campaign. on: January 24, 2021, 04:08:24 PM
I don't care it's your brother, sister, nephew, uncle, grandmother, mother, father, child, baby, son, grandfather, friend, girlfriend, boyfriend etc. If there's 2 accounts or more caught using same address/social media and joining in the same campaign, it's cheating and should be tagged.
Frankly, this is why I gave up tagging cases like this a long time ago--there's just too much doubt in my mind as to whether it's true or not.  There are apparently valid reasons why someone might share a payout address, though I don't see any reason why two people should have the same social media account.

That's my opinion, however.  Other DT and non-DT members are free to take a zero tolerance policy in situations like this.  I sure as hell wouldn't oppose a neg...but I'd be careful, too.
3938  Economy / Economics / Re: Will proposals to tax unrealized capital gains kill Bitcoin and other Cryptos? on: January 24, 2021, 04:38:54 AM
Now, by contrast, gains are taxed only when assets are sold and at a top rate of 23.8% instead of 37% for ordinary income.
Jesus fuckin' Christ....that's the way it should be.  You haven't actually realized a profit until you've sold, and nobody should have to pay the government just because something they own went up in value.  Would this include real estate?  Stocks?

This democratic idea is so asinine that I hope it just dies on the floor.  If the government truly wants to address income inequality (not a new problem, by the way), this is about the worst way of going about it that I could think of.

I bet you this is their plan to pay for all of this stimulus money that's being handed out like monopoly notes.  I'll have to keep an eye on this.  Thanks for posting this, OP.
3939  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos condones and supports suchmoon demanding legitmate debate is stopped? on: January 24, 2021, 01:32:53 AM
Having been on the receiving end of year's worth of Trolling by suchmoon, all I can suggest you do is place suchmoon on ignore and block them from sending you PM's.
Seriously, OP.  If suchmoon's posts are that much of a problem for you, go ahead and smash that ignore button (like those idiot Youtubers would say), and at least that aspect of your troubles will be over with.

But something tells me that you're not good at letting things go.  On an related note, where's TECHSHARE been lately?  I say related because he's also someone who doesn't easily let things go and tends to write in a style and with content that's somewhat similar to OP's.  Just wondering out loud.

Theymos's silence doesn't equate with his endorsement of something, by the way.  He's a pretty big proponent of letting members have their little squabbles and settling them among themselves without admin intervention--which is as it should be, IMO.  I sure as hell wouldn't want that kind of nanny state here on the forum.
3940  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Atomic is scammers on: January 24, 2021, 12:23:58 AM
I always prefer to exchange currencies through exchanges and not through internal wallet swaps/exchange.
Ain't that the truth, even if you're talking about one of the more reputable "instant exchanges" like Changelly.

And beware at times like this when bitcoin is white-hot.  This is when all the scammers start coming out of the woodwork to get their hands on people's money, especially newcomers drawn into the world of bitcoin precisely because its price is on fire.  They're the ones who likely don't know all the things you shouldn't do--through no fault of their own; it's just their inexperience.

I've used the Atomic wallet before, but never any of their partners (which I'm assuming is what this thread is about).  Nor will I.  There are enough legitimate exchanges out there such that you shouldn't have to resort to using shady ones.  I've done it for obscure altcoins that don't trade on the major ones, and I've often paid the price for experimenting with ones like HitBTC, Coinswitch, and a few others.  It's not worth it.
