3941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using lightning for bitcoin low fee on exchanges on: April 17, 2022, 02:03:00 PM
But only few major exchange are still supporting lightning network. Binance, Coinbase and FTX are not yet supporting lightning network. which is the only way that bitcoin can be withdrawn on exchanges for low fee. But few exchanges are supporting lightning network.

The withdrawal fee at exchanges is not so much related to the network fee.
While a normal (1 input 2 outputs) transaction costs under 300 satoshi now, while during the week don't really go higher than 2500 satoshi, Binance, one the cheapest options, charges you 40000 (!) satoshi.
And they can easily combine multiple withdrawals to lower the fee/person (also that's why you'll probably see bigger total fees).

I don't have too big expectations the fees will get as low as you'd expect if these platforms go for LN. It's their profit we're talking about here.
So LN can help on speed, maybe a bit in the transactions fees too, but I would not expect wonders.
3942  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is truly missing in the Bitcoin ecosystem to get this to the masses on: April 17, 2022, 01:44:29 PM
I am interested what others see as lacking in terms of how to get this to the masses.

Imho Bitcoin is getthing this slow to the masses is political.
The governments and central banks do protect their fiat. Most commercial banks see bitcoin as a competitor. All of them are bashing Bitcoin as much as possible, spreading false news in order to keep average Joe wary about Bitcoin.
Bitcoin price cannot be easily explained by the economics, even more, nobody guarantees that the price cannot fall big. Bitcoin is still seen as a risky investment.
The fact Bitcoin daily price fluctuations of even 8% are seen as "not unusual", the merchants (who get the raw materials in fiat, pay salaries and taxes in fiat, ...) cannot easily show the prices in bitcoin makes it be avoided by many, hence the use as a currency is limited.

But what Bitcoin actually needs? Probably strong advertising. Probably somebody has to go to the businesses to strike a deal. Probably somebody has to pay for banners in the metro and at the tv. But since Bitcoin is not a business per se and there aren't that many businesses working with Bitcoin, we are pretty early for that. For now I see easier advertising to FTX, Binance and many others, but not that much for Bitcoin. But sooner or later they'll realize they have to do a bit more.
3943  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Black List of crypto exchanges! (BANS and confiscation) on: April 17, 2022, 01:32:01 PM
BTC Exchanges that said they would NOT succumb:
KuCoin
Binance
EXMO

When did Binance say so? It's important, because lately they've turned into an exchange obeying regulation and they have already frozen this year the funds of Nigerians (most probably) because of official requests (just I didn't follow the story closely, hence I don't know if those funds got unfrozen meanwhile).

And even more: one should not really trust in what these businesses said. The policies can change over time. The existence of the business on certain markets is usually more important than a few unhappy customers for which the public can be convinced "it was their fault".
3944  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Lealana Public Address Recovery on: April 17, 2022, 06:24:51 AM
Can't figure out how to add images or I would!

1. You can upload the images to imgur.com and post here the links. Then somebody will quote your post so they're visible. You cannot make them visible until you rank up.
2. From what I know, one method to find the address is to go to https://www.walletexplorer.com/ and post there the part of the address you have. They'll try to get you the full address.

For example for 1BTCfifq taken from here: https://images.greysheet.com/l/blogs/20211201/510a07e0-83a8-49a1-8ad8-410b39299274.jpg
I've got 1BTCfifqJmZFJxaEoiRGSz8nCRM6SMNcmQ showing 0.1 BTC on it.

3946  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Turn photos into Bitcoin wallets on: April 16, 2022, 05:05:33 PM
The thing is that it's only you who will know which is the file (or files) needed for the seed. It can be stored on USB sticks, or even better, on cloud, without anybody knowing what's that for. I find it a not-so-bad way to store your seed.
How is this better than just taking a picture of 12 seed words, and storing that on the cloud? It would be trivially easy to hash all hacked data to check if it returns a balance. At least a picture of 12 actual words will have some captcha qualities.

Because it's only you who will know what those file are for (unless you store them together with wallet, unless you name them seed1.jpg...seed12.jpg), unlike storing a seed or a picture of the seed.

I mean, if I put into Dropbox a folder with 5-10 jpeg files, it's only me who will know that they're more than nice memories. (of course, as o_e_l_e_o pointed it out very good, online services tend to mess with image files, but let's ignore that for now). Unlike a backup of the seed containing the actual seed, a file is a file, really. And if you want to tell otherwise, I can tell you that I have over 3000 pictures on cloud, so if one wants to guess a seed based on (some of) those.. it won't be easy.

I find it less secure because the owner may forget the logic of his "hidden HD seed" than because one would start hashing and mixing those files to get the seed off them.
3947  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Turn photos into Bitcoin wallets on: April 16, 2022, 04:10:46 PM
If you take one photo and sha256 the a few MB jpg, I'm pretty sure that won't ever be reproduced. But you'll need to keep the file secure

It's 100% clear that the file has to be kept securely. The thing is that it's only you who will know which is the file (or files) needed for the seed. It can be stored on USB sticks, or even better, on cloud, without anybody knowing what's that for. I find it a not-so-bad way to store your seed.

With no checksum or error correction built in, it then becomes essentially impossible for the user in question to recover their wallet.

You are indeed very right on this. The user will have to keep the seed-source super safe. Even more, he will have to also keep super-safe the code that generates the seed from the source files and.. yeah, they should not be stored together.

It is an ingenious way imho. And some may like it. But it's also super risky, especially for really long term (like any non-standard way to keep the seed, after all). You guys are right.
3948  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Turn photos into Bitcoin wallets on: April 16, 2022, 03:25:02 PM
A brain wallet (also not recommended) could work from photos and other objects too: on the wall in my living room from left to right I see: Heater Speaker Bob Alice TV Speaker Fireplace Wedding Lamborghini Piggybank Drawer Litterbox and Curtain. Enter it into Bitaddress: 1pZNXZ6PUfpHjmgcQhcYkEVJnMStJfj7C!
As long as you don't change your living room, you can probably recover these funds. But it's not the most secure storage system.

Indeed. But is it not-so-safe because the list of English words, or is it because they're objects in your house? I mean that if one uses this "trick" with a list of (image) files, somebody else will also have to know that the seed comes from a list of files. I'd guess that the hash of a number of files can give stronger seed than from some words, but I am not good at this.
3949  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Turn photos into Bitcoin wallets on: April 16, 2022, 02:43:11 PM
I think Photo Seeds has a fundamental flaw:
Quote
Odds are much higher that someone will remember a photo or a number of photos, and the order of those photos before they remember 12 random words.
If you've ever played the memory game (kids are much better at it than adults), you'll know you can barely remember a few pictures. And every new picture you see makes it more confusing.

Well, one can easily have a few super-memorable photos he wants to turn into wallet. He won't have to remember how the photo looks like.
Like "the main photo from my wedding", "the first photo with my boy" and so on. But.. your point is valid because nowadays one may have 20 photos with the first day of his kid, and then the things indeed get confusing.

---
Also, in case nobody noticed:

How can we make idea even better?
Use bitmaps instead of files

Imho the current implementation can be considered flawed, since one may want to print the photos that make the seed, for example, for remembering easier.
(Of course, it can be seen as a feature too, since one may want to do this from certain historic files - the images of his first few floppy disks, or the first version of whatever application and so on)

Back to the images: if the implementation gets corrected/improved as the dev wants... I am not so sure if a 4k photo and its scaled down to 2MP version would return the same seed.

---
Conclusion: it can become an interesting project, but it may be better to not be linked to the idea of photos, it may be better with (any) actual files. It avoids confusion and other possible problems.
3950  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: HELP. I need to know if my Electrum address is correct on: April 16, 2022, 11:41:12 AM
Well never seen any addresses yet more than 62 characters

Well, according to this bech32 playground page the initial data cannot be too long:

Note that version 0 scripts should have length 20 or 32 bytes.

Hence on version 0 I couldn't make longer "addresses". than 62 chars.
But on other versions I've got (from random data I don't understand) rather easily1 73 chars long address2. It has the source available though in case it helps anybody...

3951  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finger print alternative way to private keys for Bitcoin Wallet recovery. on: April 16, 2022, 10:53:15 AM
During 2020 I have a  friend who had 1.372 BTC he purchased in 2017 at the price of $750 per btc
in  a wallet he lost access to the keys during 2020 ATH.and he was unable to recover the funds.

A properly made wallet take security serious. This means that having seed based on biometric is not an option. (Fingerprint can be copied from any surface he touched; wallet access can be lost if one gets his finger cut, burned or even wet! That's not security.)
I don't see any good reason to make the wallet less safe for everybody just because a few people don't think far enough to secure properly their wallet seed.

So I agree with the rest. Bad idea. Sorry.
3952  Other / Meta / Re: A suggestion for the forum search and Ninjastic.space on: April 16, 2022, 10:35:26 AM
This may call for a separate type of search.
Ninjastic.space now searches for posts and it obviously returns posts. It's good when you look for a certain information, especially if it's part of long topics.

So imho what you are asking for is another search type (either another entry, either another parameter) that returns only topics.
3953  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Considering secp256k1 how can I obtain private keys? on: April 16, 2022, 07:31:37 AM
What is Local, what is Server?

This is imho the spot-on question.

I know 2 public keys (from Local and Server). I want to know how to obtain private keys for Local and server.

@mluired you may have misunderstood something. Bitcoin is not the usual client-server application. Creating a private key doesn't need a server. Signing the private key doesn't need a server.
Getting a private key from a public key is not possible under normal circumstances. (It can be possible only if crucial mistakes are done.)
3954  Economy / Economics / Re: Where should I invest? on: April 16, 2022, 07:23:11 AM
As a newbie in the crypto environment, with a keen interest in making a profitable investment in crypto, where would you best advice me to invest in 2022. Will an investment in bitcoin now still be profitable to me or investing in other coins is what you best advice? I understand that people are sometimes reserved as per not wanting to give financial advice to avoid being blamed if it goes wrong, but I will try to go through all the responses I can get and highlight the answers that are repeated for consideration.

I think that you have to learn first. Bitcoin is a risky investment, especially for those who don't have the patience keep the coins for a couple of years, especially for those who invested money they "cannot afford to lose".
Altcoins are even riskier, many of them are plain scam, some of them may be profitable for short term and may do worse than Bitcoin on long term... it's even more to learn. Much more.

So if you have some money you afford to lose, you can start with DCA and small amounts, while you're also reading/learning more (just keep a vigilant eye on the exchange fees and withdrawal fees so you don't lose much there).

Ah, and also something vey important before you put money in crypto: learn about how to keep your wallet safe (and consider buying a hardware wallet). You don't want hackers steal your money, right?

PS. All this is not a financial advice. Please decide for yourself what you do with your money.
3955  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mentioned on a ongoing Netflix series Queen of the south on: April 16, 2022, 07:17:00 AM
Bitcoin was mentioned in NCIS series in 2018. That's already 4 years ago. And it's not the only example.
While seeing it mentioned, in a way or another, can make me smile (although in most cases it's the hidden-money-ofr-doing-bad stereotype), it's certainly not something that important. Not anymore.

Also this kind of topic seems to keep coming now and then, see for example Bitcoin in Movies
3956  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is behind this challenge? on: April 16, 2022, 06:39:37 AM
The cpp file posted is not the source code. So you'd run a random executable from the internet on your computer.

There's a chance that exe will install to you all the malware in the world.
There's a chance that exe will, if you find the key, send it to the one creating the program without ever telling you that you've hit gold.

I don't know why would anybody take chances with it, really.
3957  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about multisignature on: April 16, 2022, 06:34:06 AM
Hello everyone.
I am learning about multisig and am planning to use electrum wallet.
I wanted to know how should i make it possible that from one transaction 2 parties get a % of the btc
Example : User 1 buys something from User 2 for 1 BTC, User 3 needs a 5% cut from the transaction as he helped making it happen. How does he get the 5% ?
Sorry for the bad english and thank you.

1. Multisig is not about getting a cut. Multisig is for wallet/funds security. In the same way there are multiple keys needed to allow launching a nuke, a multisig wallet allows spending funds only if multiple keys sign the transaction. So it's not related to your use case.

2. When a Bitcoin transaction is made/sent, usually the sender creates it and the receiver can check if he got the funds.
From what I know there is no such feature to create an invoice sending various amounts of funds to various addresses and it would make no sense either, since the buyer/sender could easily bypass the invoice, send the funds only to seller's address and the seller will be happy to release the goods/services.
So if you want to do something like this on your platform you'll have to implement it yourself and you can (and should) also act like an escrow. The buyer will send the full amount of funds to you and after the buyer has received the goods you send (as a new transaction) the payment to the seller, also keeping your cut for yourself.
3958  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Users that use Bitcoin Core as wallet: how do you keep your wallet.dat safe? on: April 16, 2022, 06:22:22 AM
If you use Bitcoin Core as wallet, how do you keep your keys safe?

Im not comfortable with anything but Bitcoin Core including to manage keys and im sure im not the only one. The problem is keeping the wallet.dat file safe, specially on an scenario were physical copies can be lost.

An Electrum user can

Well, I've made the mix that keeps safe my keys and my privacy too*: I have Bitcoin Core, on top of it I have an Electrum server, hence I use Electrum with a hardware wallet. Might sound a bit complicated, but it's fun. And then the problem is solved by the backup seed.

For your actual problem I see another solution: always save on paper the address and the private key for the one address (or few addresses) containing the bulk of the funds. Those will stay safely in geographically separated locations. Best for anti-hack security would be those even come from a completely different wallet.dat (which you'll destroy/wipe).
And for the rest, for the money moving often, you can use electronic means of storage (USB stick, SD card, ..) preferably at least 2 copies.

* Actually, tbh, for some reasons, including laziness, I am not yet 100% there, but soonTM...

Hello I am buying bitcoin with credit/debit card, I need to purchase thousands of dollars worth of Bitcoin. Message me here or at 201-987-4933 or jacobsandor@protonmail.com

Since debit/credit cards bear the risk of being stolen or payments get reversed, also since the individuals don't really have POS machines at home, your best bet would be the few platforms that indeed work with cards.
I know Binance.com is such a platform, I know that BestChange.com has listed some such platforms. Probably there are others too.
3960  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk makes offer to buy Twitter on: April 15, 2022, 01:51:25 PM
We all know how deceitful Elon Musk can be

Exactly. I would not be surprised if it was more an attempt to pump the price of Twitter shares in order to sell afterwards, for example.
We simply don't know what his plans are and expecting that they're indeed related to crypto may be a bit much.
