Silly windows users... no plugs were ever needed in linux.

I got the shits with linux.  plus i can have about a billion other programs running on my miner with windows Smiley

I run browsers, VMs, games and seriously intensive programs (working on a masters in CS) on my miner all the time.  Even Valve is ditching Windows for Linux.  Microsoft Office being required by others is the only legitimate use case for Windows and I'm happy to do that in a VM.
3962  Economy / Speculation / Re: $15.00 again --> buy now! on: January 17, 2013, 03:55:14 PM
1/2 of all bitcoins are currently mined and in the system.

And I bet a large fraction of those are permanently lost, either from when BTC was new and worthless and miners didn't bother backing up their wallets, or forgot their passwords etc.

I mined a few bitcents to the ether just the other day.
3963  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 17, 2013, 03:52:18 PM
This is odd, Gox is telling me:

Last price:$15.21073 High:$14.99002 Low:$14.45900 Volume:47000 BTC Weighted Avg:$14.76098

Trades in other currencies are converted and included in last price.
3964  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 17, 2013, 03:48:27 PM
EDIT: Damm it... I forgot I had it in EUR... Ignore me... I'm dumb.

Uh... Why is Mtgox.com telling me that the price is 11.19?

MTGox, you're drunk. Go home, you're gonna crash the market.

You have it in Euro mode.
3965  Economy / Speculation / Re: Visualizing Mt. Gox Bid/Ask History on: January 17, 2013, 03:32:48 PM
A while back someone started taking screenshots of the walls at regular intervals and made a time lapse video from them, not sure where that ended up going or who was doing it tho.

You could probably make a decent one from the wall thread, but it only goes back a few months.

I have Ubuntu. But my system reboots every 6 hours and *always* corrupt my blockchain, forcing me download everything again Sad

But I'll try to use a VirtualBox with snapshots, so if I have the DB corrupt again I just recover the last snapshot. Anyway, OTC is complicated. For me, a 11-yrs programmers is annoying the steps, you can imagine for my mum, for example. It's true: OTC is impossible to handle. We have a more user-friendly system, maybe linked with Facebook account. I know it is possible to make FB fakes, but it's hard to do a good fake, with a lot of pics, old posts, real friends etc.
I used Electrum for signing. You are lucky GPG come pre-installed with Ubuntu but I don't think you will go that far.

I don't use Facecrap btw.

Ditto on Facebook, not worth it.

notme likes this Wink

facebook free since 2012

If your system can't handle https://github.com/brainwallet/brainwallet.github.com for signing, then it's time to throw it off a cliff.

I need to find a cliff for this iCrap.  I'm in WV so it shouldn't be hard.

I assume iCrap means iPad. If so, it's just Javascript... you can use http://brainwallet.org/#sign - over secured wireless internet that you trust with your life.

Unbelievable. I can just barely pull off basic HTML and AppleScript, and even I was/am able to do it. ENOUGH ALREADY.

iPhone... it's probably possible, just unusably laggy.  I have plenty of devices that can handle it.

3969  Economy / Speculation / Re: $15.00 again --> buy now! on: January 17, 2013, 03:18:54 PM
We tried that in June of 2011. It didn't work out so well. The people dumping weren't the sad ones, they got to buy back in at $2.50.

If people want to sell, let them! Some resistance would be healthy.

Now that I've said that, I, personally, won't be selling any.  Cheesy

I find the circumstances between now and 2011 or 2012 totally different.  But yes, in reality some resistance is a good thing.

I will be standing by my motto of "Never sell. Buy or spend" regardless of what happens.

I'm more of a "Only sell locally for cash, rebuy immediately on exchange, buy regularly with a small portion of each paycheck, spend when it is easier than fiat" kind of guy myself.
3970  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 17, 2013, 03:16:10 PM
Do we just go crazy up or can we expect another wall to pop-up somewhere in short order?

Depends if anyone learned anything from June 2011 or not. No need to go crazy. I'm hoping the bears can put up some kind of resistance.

They've got a shot at a short term head and shoulders that could bring us back to the 14.2 area if they can gather the powder.
3971  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yet another analyst :) on: January 17, 2013, 02:49:29 PM
I agree a small pullback is possible here, but zoom out.  We just broke through some major longterm resistances.  The upside possibilities just opened up.
3972  Economy / Speculation / Re: The asymmetry on: January 17, 2013, 02:32:26 PM
Distribution at these prices is more bullish long term than accumulation.  Who gives a shit about the short term, just buy when you get paid and don't worry about it.
3973  Economy / Speculation / Re: Search volumes says you are overpaying for your coins on: January 17, 2013, 02:29:54 PM
All I know is that I buy a lot more bitcoins now than back when I had to search for things about bitcoin.  Now I just use it.  If you want to see a spike in search volume, you need new users.  But, I believe many existing users are like me and regularly buy on exchanges with a small portion of their paychecks.  I don't think we will have a problem absorbing the new coins at this price.  It's the big holders that are the wildcard, but the big dumps haven't moved the price down much lately.
3974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shouldn't we start using safer keys from now instead of waiting for problems? on: January 17, 2013, 01:34:59 PM
Precision change would not require hardware changes.  All miners care about is a double round of sha256 of whatevery you hand it.

Turn on volume bars?
Your word is a law for me. Hehe

Regarding my positions... I am not a fool to trade inside triangles. Especially wedges...

We already left the triangle behind buddy.

Sounds like you either have a corrupt hard drive or faulty memory btw.  Many boot loaders have a memtest option you might want to try.  Not sure if Ubuntu's install has it though.

True that Notme, i'm a easily annoyed person myself but it does no good to actively stifle anothers enthusiasm.

Who knows, some guy may have this revolutionary idea that could hasten Bitcoins adoption by mainstream financial institutions but was never taken seriously and worked on cause the guy was sick of being ridiculed when he brought ideas up in the forums.  This is a long shot but just saying.

These forums aren't going to make one lick of difference in an ASIC project.  It is all a matter of having the right skills get together and do the thing locally.  And then the actual production needs funded.  Perhaps the forum could help there, but until that point there isn't much good asking around here will get you.

To OP:
Check bitcoin wiki, read bitcoin whitepaper, look at open source FPGA designs, and read sha256 specification.  Google can help you find all this fairly easily.  If you have the team locally to do this, please make it happen, but you won't get much help here at this stage.
3979  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yet another analyst :) on: January 17, 2013, 05:22:34 AM
Ouch... Daily ADX above 60. We have a top around here. Good time to take profits now.

If this price will stay till the end of week above 1470 and correction will not turn into impulse - I will start to doubt bearish scenario. But only doubt.. Hehe. I still dont see a volume.

Turn on volume bars?

I don't have bitcoin-qt because it is incompatible with my system.

And this page has 782 words.

What kind of system is that?  You actually only need the rpc commands if you can run bitcoind.
