3981  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: December 01, 2015, 03:18:47 AM

Is the cgminer-gekko version working on a device that is locked to mine at AntPool solo mode(forced)?

cgminer-gekko is for sidehacks compac sticks hooked to the usb.. it does nothing with the internal chip.. that still uses the cgminer that is compiled specific for it. unfortunately we cant update cgminer for that until we get the source code drivers.

I thought we would see a lot more from bitmain.  I figured a firmware update someday would show a lot.  But they seem to have backed off R1's.

I cant decide if they are just not focusing on them, or if they just wanted PR around time 21 inc was doing computer.   They beat 21 in my mind with router with chip vs RPI with chip (i know it has some software... but it's kinda lame from what I've seen).

I just can't figure out what they are doing with R1 currently.  I'm happy with my 1 so if they want to stop and make it a cool low production miner... i'm ok with that.
3982  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks Open! on: December 01, 2015, 02:53:38 AM
And phil still has ultimate control Smiley.  I'm just helping with this week.   It will always be his as far as this thread owner.   So there is someone to overrule me when I make stupid mistakes.

Today just got really busy.  I'm still waiting on a few deals to come through.  I was expecting a easy day but turned into a long one for sure.

One simple rule for all participants if I may:

After you post your guess please check back in 12-24 hours and make sure your number is in the list and in the correct place. Double-checking one number is much easier and less error-prone than someone having to double-check 50 numbers.

And don't hesitate to point out any issues with your (or anyone's) pick. Remember - we love you even if we yell at you occasionally  Grin

Thanks suchmoon!  Honestly he does not get enough credit we should be thanking him more for the payouts for this.  It's very generous and makes this thread fun and active.

And it's perfectly true please tell me if I make a mistake.  I appolgize if anytime I don't sound thankful.  Above re-reading I don't like how the tone sounds from me.  I just did not want to add to list unless phil or suchmoon.   But if you see a mistake in list or anything feel free to say something.

And remember the ultimate goal of this thread is to speculate and most of all have some fun.  So hopefully it is a fun experience for most.
3983  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Earning BTC in a 3rd world country on: December 01, 2015, 02:42:00 AM
Hello everyone!
i am new to BTC. I am from Pakistan and finding it hard to start with the BTC. Any useful information how to start from scratch if i am from a 3rd world county? Thanks a lot in advance.

You can try to start with faucet, once you have earn good, maybe gamble ..

Faucets are cent's per hour at most.  Why suggest a person go into faucet?   I don't see it making any money.

Can you show a faucet that gained even 3rd world earnings?  And if it did.... how is gambling going to help?

Hmm, I'm from a third world country and I am a witness of newbie bitcoiners that were addicted to faucets. They seems like dedicated to it and post their respective (micro) "earnings" on Facebook (on a bitcoin related group). I once saw there's a proud faucet user that he earned 0.001 BTC in a week (and he seems happy with it) Grin When they already earned something like 0.001 btc or above, they start posting on what "investment" site they can invest and grow their precious satoshis. Some also do gambling on casinos, but mostly they want investing on HYIPs/ponzis.

Faucets were gold to them.

That's because their hourly wages are so small that even that 0.001 BTC matters. Most westerners don't understand that in some countries 1USD per hour is a decent wage.

I think you are wrong on parts.  Some of use realize a dollar a day is HUGE in some places.  You could feel rich in certain third world countries with very small amount of money.

But faucets bring cents per hour at best.  Even in third world countries if you make 5 cents a day for a 20 hour day faucet run... that is not to good.   Faucets just pay horribly.
3984  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: December 01, 2015, 02:39:33 AM
One of my favorite day's of the week.  Was able to do signature campaign and mining.

So very good day overall.  Even a few deals which added even more.   So very good overall.
3985  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the safest and simplest way to keep bitcoins? on: December 01, 2015, 02:38:39 AM
Download a desktop wallet (like electrum for example) and then try to hold some amount of your coins because you can make profit when the price increase, and it's expected that it will increase soon as known

Look into cold wallets. Cold wallets are still much better.  But I guess it all depends on how much you are storing.

Just don't invest in the gambling and ponzi sites and then you can keep your bitcoins safe

Gambling really is just a horrible idea on making money.  Overall most lose it's just a fact.  And ponzi if anyone promises a huge return in little time.. avoid it.  Ponzi's look amazing till you get the facts.
3986  Other / Archival / Re: REVIEW: Pros and Cons of different Bitcoin Storage methods vs. Malware on: December 01, 2015, 02:31:45 AM
-snip-
So this discussion is pointless.
-snip-

I get that, but I am not sure if you understand why. You have no attack scenario so you cant properly judge the defenses. As SebastianJu pointed out, if are rich enough to set up a bunker + guard for your bitcoins you will have to consider attackers willing and able to cut your fingers off[1]. It does not even make sense to compare #9 to #1.

Anyway, I will not further pester your thread with my criticism.

[1] http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4396831.stm

I think the guy with the hardware wallet or properly done paper wallet and stored in good location like bank is just about as secure as most need.  I think it comes down to cold vs hot wallet. Even if you have a bunker your relying on guards who I would assume make much less then what is being stored.  As long as there is greed there is a chance of them going "bad"

I like mine to only rely on myself.  I see bank as ok as for the level of security it's hard to beat price for a security deposit box.

But I kinda agree with shorena it's kinda hard to have a discussion.  It seems a little adversarial which is not healthy for a discussion.
3987  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 01, 2015, 02:16:11 AM
I will report back on my order but it's confirmed that I should be getting the cable along with the unit.  Also I was told that I would have the standard minimum warranty of up to 90 days.  Can't wait to hear back on your noise test of the Avalon minus the Server PSU, Hawk.

I wish I had something to report back. After getting the cable from Oregonminers, I connected the miner. But the miner won't hash for some reason, Green Led on the miner kept blinking, I added pools, restarted the miner, checked all the cables - nothing seemed to work. I will try again later tonight. Using Bitmain 1600W PSU.

Which image are you using on your controller?  Is it the one from first page here that BlockC made?

I have it hooked up to one working perfect right now.
3988  Other / Meta / Re: Should there be a limit to how many times you can post a day? on: December 01, 2015, 02:13:29 AM
Please. Stop spamming the forum. I've seen your name enough times authoring so many shitposts to last me a lifetime.

There really shouldn't, because done people actually contribute to the forum, instead of spam it. I just guess we'll have to live with spammers.

Koff koff
I guess spam means "posting a lot" to you. With that being said, maybe a post restriction is your best bet.

Either way, I am placing you on ignore for the rudeness.

Well generally when you talk about spam here means someone who posts a lot of non constructive posts. What tarsua said it's a pretty valid point too. Site owners will often post a lot in the same thread to communicate with their users.

If I do recall correctly, the meaning of constructive from the English language is doing actions that can help people. In this case I am creating a way to possibly stop people who post a lot. In the OP, I quoted somebody that didn't appreciate somebody posting a lot. So, I came up with the idea of a post restriction.

I would say that is me being constructive. Unfortunately, your idea of constructive and my idea of it would be different. That doesn't mean that I deserve to be insulted. Insulting people would be trolling them, which I do not condone. If you don't appreciate my posts, it doesn't make sense to continue reading them, which means they only click on them to upset me. With that being said, I have placed those people on ignore.

I think a lot of ideas of good posts and yours are different.  How many posts have you done in huge font mods have went through and fixed?  One could argue that is wasting mods time.

Number of posts is such a individual thing.  I'm normally on it all day some are on 10 minutes a day.  You can not really say X number of posts is max good posts.   As some have good posts, and others are utter crap.

You should still be seeing it but the timer is one of the best things to stop crap posts.  It makes it where you have to wait to post on lower accounts.  This makes perfect sense and stops someone from being able to spam in every forum.  Normally it's caught in just a few.
3989  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 01, 2015, 02:01:06 AM
Thanks Notlist3d.  I'm hearing both side, 1 side saying it's still obnoxiously loud and only slightly less than the S7 and then I see others saying I won't be divorced over this and it's fine in the living room or bedroom.   I live in TX, so we'll only be enjoying a short cool winter but the house is consistently in the 72/73 degree F so I won't get any benefit of say 68-70 ambient rooms.   I ordered my unit after seeing your awesome review video.

Glad to hear I thin you will enjoy it.  I really like mine I had 0 plans of keeping it in my room, but ended up doing it after starting testing.  The free heat has me keeping it in my room more then planned.  I don't think you will get divorced over it Smiley as long as you have some sound or something else going.  Phils DB readings are very good earlier in thread he had some high quality db reader.

Best of luck with your miner!
3990  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners should Start a Union on: December 01, 2015, 01:55:02 AM
Miners starting a union, that'd be an interesting feat.

What are you going to do, stop mining?

I'm not sure how exactly you'd expect to pull something like this, since there isn't much you can argue against in a decentralized monetary system lol

Good luck with your union and strikes  Grin

I sometimes wonder why some threads do not die.  You can not have a mining union... it's that simple.  Union bargain with someone, btc controlled by open market no boss or company to bargain with.

You would have to own enough of the BTC mining to fix prices... which would be bad in long run.  If someone as fixing prices chances are BTC would take a dive in price, as it defeats the decentralization.

Now can we let this thread die? Please? lol.
3991  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 01, 2015, 01:43:01 AM
What would you consider a good miner? I only want to spend $100-$200 and would like to ditch these au3's for something that I can turn on and forget about.

Get an S3+, it will do 450-500GH/s (depending on clock settings) rock solid for ever and you won't have to do anything for it.  They are right in that price range, including the psu (I have one for sale for an S3 if you need one).

If you want to stay with usb miners then get like 4 compac sticks and run them 15-20GH/s each.  They are great little miners.

I use mine for lotto miners just for fun.  A S3 is a tad big for me on lotto.  I don't like paying electricity very much on lotto miners.

So I have 3 U3's and 7 compacs that make up my lotto miners.  They are working great as of now.  Rest of my miners all mine on pools.
3992  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 01, 2015, 01:39:31 AM
Hello Notlist3d,

Thanks for the awesome review.  I ordered a Avalon 6 from ZoomHash based on your review and Youtube video.  Can you tell me what was the Ambient room temperature for your video sound test of the unit?  I see that you have it in your bedroom, so I'm assuming that the noise level is not too loud?  I'm planning on hosting in my house so low noise is important.  Any tips or updates would be appreciated.

Nhan

It really is not bad as far as sound to heat ratio is what I call it.  My room is pretty cold ambiant it's turning winter.  But you can hear it running in the video.  It can rev up but with my cold ambiant it tends not to do that to often... and my surround sound/proector exhust kinda dull it out.   But the ambiant you can see in front of miner and behind exhaust on front page.

I need to do it again and document it as my amabiant is even colder (I have a window open my dog enjoy's it).  The best DB reading is from phil in thread with his reader.  I used a smartphone app which was not bad, but phil had a true DB reader.
3993  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Very new to mining, I could use some technical advice/help on rig construction on: December 01, 2015, 01:31:12 AM
you could even cpu mine with a computer, heck go to nicehash.com and use their mining program for cpu, its easy to use.  if its for demonstration purposes.  I tried it recently to see what it could do with my i7 980x (thats a beast basically), and its 0.10cents a day, minus electricity (lol).  you can also mine other cryptocurrency coins, or even better, create one yourself !  now that would be a cool project.

You would run at a loss doing this.  I would suggest spending just a little and getting a lotto machine.  Get a RPI and some USB miner such as compac.  With this setup you are spending very little on electricity and can learn without full PC running just for CPU mining.  CPU mining has been dead for a while as far as profit.

Even on GPU it's not worth pushing it on intensity when you can get a USB in most cases more powerful.
3994  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are the most popular miners? on: December 01, 2015, 01:28:29 AM
i'm sure this has been posted, but you can check out https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison for a comprehensive list of miners available and past.

He is wanting the "most popular" miner not best or a list.   As far as info I don't think we really have which one sold the most.  Just with most being private business's it does not happen on release of info.

But lets let this thread die.  Look at OP's last login - November 01, 2015, 01:56:43.  He is not coming back.  I wish I could click close button.

You should sort the list, that looks confusing. Let me help you.

Please do not add people to list. The last thing we need is multiple people doing this.  I copy/pasted wrong one... good one as in a notepad.  I do appreciate you spotting it and cleaning it up.

I know you had good intentions, but it just gets confusing with multiple doing it.  So please refrain from adding to list.

@ Lituation  yeah  as much as it is tempting to help out  it won't work in the long run.

I let suchmoon do edits and notlist3d when I run this contest.  It can just be too easy for a mistake .

Sometimes notlist3d will run the contest if I am on vacation or holidays (Thankgiving)  and of course suchmoon has provide almost all of the prizes.
I gave 2 compac sticks away and he paid the rest of the btc prize money.

We have grown a bit and more  attention  is on the thread also we now have more then 2x the numbers to pick from.

Remember  we have really worked hard to keep this fun free and speculative.
For the most part it has been that way. My apologies to d57heinz for calling him a FUD spreader last thread.

3999  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How do you get free power? on: December 01, 2015, 01:00:28 AM
The attraction for me of Solar, particularly if you have a system with no or a very small battery is that you can continue to mine with out of date hardware and make some money regardless of difficulty and halvings without worrying about electricity cost.

Rich

The problem is everyone I have seen that has had math behind it with estimates it's very long term.  Were talking 10+ years with payment upfront.  We don't know what bitcoint will be like in 10 years... so hard to even speculate.

Cheap electricity no upfront cost.  So I think it's still going to win out.  And I wish I was wrong I would love to have some solar just so far have not been able to justify the cost.

Yes agreed and I am not talking about ROI just the ongoing prospect of a Solar Powered Miner such that I could mine at some level without further costs regardless of Miner efficiency and Difficulty.

I am still putting together parts for my experiment, have got 500W of panels for $150 and expect to complete the project for another $100. However Weather in the UK not ideal at the moment for putting the panels up so will probably not get up and running until the Spring.

Rich

But with upfront cost I don't see that your getting to mine profitably no matter miner efficiency and difficulty.  You have a upfront cost you need to cover eventually unless your just doing it because you want it.  And I think it's going to be a long term investment.

Have you got a initial cost and and how big are you taking about going?

I am not making myself clear.  Smiley I am not concerned about the upfront cost or ROI on the initial investment. Most of the things I buy have an upfront cost and depreciate over time. So yes I will be out a couple of Hundred Dollars for the Solar setup and that I am happy with as it's another bit of Tech to play with and learn about, if it wasn't this it would be something else.

However when I got into Mining a few Months ago I promised myself that I would only mine if the money I was making was greater than the electricity / ongoing cost. With my 15c electricity will become impossible unless I go in for clever buying and selling of the latest equipment and I do not want to take that risk.

So that is why I am going to do my Solar Experiment. It will be fun to get going and if I get it right will have very low ongoing costs and will make money albeit as time goes by that will decrease.... But it will enable me to stay in the mining game without worrying about electricity costs, difficulty increases, or am I buying and selling the right equipment at the best times.

Rich

I think we are thinking of different scales of this is the problem.  I'm thinking far bigger then a few hundred in solar gear.  A LOT more.

So I guess your talking about a smaller scale.   How many watts is your goal in this solar experiment?
4000  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How to make btc faster throug mining? on: December 01, 2015, 12:58:32 AM
I want to know that how can i make btc faster through mining.
Is this the best way to make btc and from where does this btc comes to miners.?

--------------------------------------------------

Step 1

Learn how mining works....

Step 2

Buy a miner...

Step 3

Earn bitcoin...

--------------------------------------------------

Always know this.... There is no way to cheat the system & earn BTC faster than anyone else does....

Is it just me?? Or is the BTC price going up again coupled with the halving of the coin bringing out the usual bunch of rip merchants / scammers / get rich quick people??

mining is not for micro-miners...
I invite you to compare:
learn about probable profit with 0.01BTC

learn about 0.01 BTC invested in winspiral's U2cloudmining

invest where it is better...And you will not regret my advice if you invest in winspirals system or better...
But DO NOT INVEST in what is worser...

Take your bullshit ponzi scheme somewhere else, nobody is falling for it and we won't let new users get suckered into it either, no matter how much you pad the wording.

A U2 as in bitmain's U2?  That is pretty rediclous if your are claiming those usb's to be a cloud mining system... is that what your saying?

If so can you take a picture of the U2's? I want to see how many are in this "cloud".
