3981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 26, 2016, 11:07:04 PM
it is interesting, why steemit dont use advertising selling on steemit platform? it can interested a lot of investors. Also it will help to support sbd withou steem dump.

Ad revenue would be so little to sustain Steem or SBD price that it's not worth the inconvenience for the users. Also these users are basically the owners of the platform and content creatores, so I'm not sure who will benefit for showing ads there or what type.

Instead of formal advertising, all advertisers need to do is buy some steempower and then automatically upvote anything that has their chosen keywords in it. Writers will automatically start including said keywords, so it is win-win, especially as it is a more natural form of advertising.

The problem is that the advertising industry is stuck in the old days where they advertise like they do in newspapers or on the search engines. It will take them awhile before they wrap their heads around a new model.
3982  Economy / Speculation / Re: will Black Friday have any effect on the price of Bitcoin? on: November 24, 2016, 10:49:12 PM
Depends on whether companies like Overstock do special black friday deals for those who pay with bitcoin. That might pique the interest of those who have never used BTC.
3983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would it be fair to say no one actually uses any of these alts... on: November 24, 2016, 09:54:57 PM
Some alts are developing commercial systems around them. You can earning steem by writing on steemit. And you can buy and sell things using steem on peerhub:

Thanks for your answers everyone. Something I have to specifically look at is the meeting of the Fed on December 13th. Thanks for the person that mentioned that Wink.

Here is some more on the Federal Reserve meeting:

3985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 24, 2016, 02:22:44 PM

i can confirm it's on the Steem blockchain. The idea of a fork was considered but i do believe it's more easy (and still possible) to take some power on the Steem blockchain and impose certain enhancement and benefit from an existing community and supports

So you are going to have both steemit and busy on the same blockchain? How will that work?
3986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Remittances Using Bitcoin on: November 24, 2016, 01:50:52 AM
In my view Bitcoin will only succeed if fiat is taken out of the equation in the long term. Converting BTC to fiat is destroying all advantages of Bitcoin by adding costs, surveillance and centralized control over funds that could flow without such restrictions. this is especially true for most remittance applications. What we need is a closed-loop Bitcoin economy, where bitcoin are no longer converted to fiat anymore, but directly spent for goods and services by the receiver. That would eliminate all risks associated with conversion practices and show the full power of Bitcoin on a global and local scale.

ya.ya.yo!

Goods producers and service providers would still need to maintain accounting and keep records, even in Bitcoins, as well as pay taxes or whatever compulsory payments the government may decide to impose on them. So I don't think it is ever possible to create an all-out full-scale Bitcoin economy that would be self-sufficient and completely free from any type of government intervention at that.

This. I think bitcoin's future is as an asset, a store of value, rather than as a currency. And regarding the remittance industry, the bitcoin players in it simply mimic the existing system of shops that transfer money etc, (which is costly) rather than innovating.
3987  Economy / Speculation / Re: Explanation for the 710-750 drops? on: November 24, 2016, 01:47:51 AM
$750 is some sort of a top for this year. It shows that there isn't really any incentive for large traders to push the price any higher. I think we should be happy with the fact that we're sitting above $700 instead of hoping for the price to go up even more.

Yes. Also remember that the short-sellers come out when btc hits one of the TA lines, and $750 is one of them.
3988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can other cryptocurrency ovetake bitcoin inthe future? on: November 23, 2016, 10:36:40 PM
Ethereum is essentially a Zombie.  Ever since the DAO, and like MtGox for Bitcoin, will ever hit $15 again?!   Huh

If something overtakes Bitcoin then it has to be scandal free.  Monero might do it if they can put Rpietila under house arrest..

Yup.

Any alternative needs to be
a) scandal free
b) quick to confirm (under a minute)
c) able to handle a large volume of transactions in 24 hours
d) not require people to download mega amounts of data that fills up their hard drive, just to run a wallet.

you know that your "b" and "d" are against each other.
when you are talking about a faster confirmation it means more blocks created. for example compared with bitcoin it means more than 1 block per 10 minutes on average. and there are altcoins that have this feature like 1 block every 30 seconds.
now imagine these altcoins handle the same number of transactions as bitcoin!
full blocks every 30 seconds means blockchain will size will increase 20 MB per 10 minutes and ~2.8 GB each day.

Unless you are using an online wallet, as in Steem. No need to download anything, and extremely quick confirmation. And they did some work to allow people to retrieve their accounts in case a hack took place. They can also handle lots of transactions.

The downside is that the developers own too much of the coin (not premined exactly, but they were mining after a small announcement and most miners missed it, and only came on board when the online interface was added).
3989  Economy / Speculation / Re: Explanation for the 710-750 drops? on: November 23, 2016, 09:15:22 PM
It is to do with people taking profits whenever they see a good price. The Federal reserve meets on Dec 13th and will almost certainly put up interest rates, strengthening the dollar. So it makes sense to take profits while you can.
3990  Economy / Speculation / Re: IRS sniffing around Coinbase on: November 23, 2016, 04:53:13 PM
Think about how fucked up this is. You buy something with cash or debit/credit card you don't report it, but you need to report every purchase using bitcoin? this is a serious attack against crypto, make no mistake.

They think bitcoin is an asset, like shares, gold or property. So of course you have to report capital gains. If you bought shares with your debit card and then made a profit on selling it, you would have to report that too.
3991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: time to buy Dogecoin on: November 23, 2016, 04:45:25 PM
DOGE is and always will be one of those coins that will drift between 20 - 40 most of the time, I suppose if you have time and patience you could make a little profit, I would be very surprised if it goes up to 100, if I remember correctly this happened once last year or the year before?

Add in that the ability to short Doge got introduced by Poloniex late last year, and it's hard for doge to do a full pump.
3992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: time to buy Dogecoin on: November 23, 2016, 12:28:26 AM
Yes. If bitcoin drops thanks to the federal reserve raising interest rates (and hence the dollar), watch doge surge.
3993  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1000+ is anytime now on: November 22, 2016, 10:43:29 PM
I don't think so. The last time bitcoin reached $1000, there was no ability to short, so the pump worked. It won't work now. Besides the Fed will be raising interest rates in December. That will strengthen the dollar against all assets including bitcoin. BTC might rise in terms of yuan, but not in terms of dollars.
3994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 22, 2016, 07:58:54 PM
The3 new changes will be live on December 6th. See

3995  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bit lending club on: November 22, 2016, 04:59:57 PM
The big thing I can't verify is my income. And that's why I'm asking if I skip the income verification will it not let apply for a loan even though everything else is verified over 75%

Income is the most important bit when lenders assess ability to repay the loan. Just saying.

There's arguably already a bunch of projects which have those characteristics and no one is hopping on them yet.  In order for those characteristics to matter, the alternate first has to hit $5+ billion and this means playing the speculation game which only a handful of projects (Ripple and Ethereum) had ever seen any modicum of success at.

Yeah - should have added e) all the exchanges add the coin and speculators love it.
3997  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do Bitcoin and Chinese Yuan Values Correlate? on: November 22, 2016, 04:03:19 PM
Well the Federal reserve is meeting on Dec 13th, and will likely put up interest rates. That should boost the dollar against the yuan. Whether it prompts Chinese to move into bitcoin to protect the value of their money, is anyone's guess.
3998  Economy / Speculation / Re: The adoption boom is coming on: November 22, 2016, 11:08:56 AM
I don't think mainstream adoption is coming at all. How many people use bitcoins to purchase stuff from Overstock?

Bitcoin is behaving more like an asset class (gold, property etc). People who want to store wealth away from the prying eyes of govt. People in places like Venezuela and Argentina who are dealing with delinquent currencies and want something to hold it's value.

But in the west normal fiat will continue to be used to purchase the necessities of life.

that's because there is still no real way to earn bitcoin easily for the average people aside from buying which is not convenient for many, and also it feel like investment, many don't want to invest, they want to acquire, you don't invest to have fiat, you acquire it, so until bitcoin will not be easy to acquire it will no be on par with fiat
There will be ways for people to buy Bitcoin using their fiat money soon enough; all they have to do is wait for more countries to start doing things like what's happening in Switzerland along with having more trustworthy phone apps acting as wallets for users. If they can get something like that on their phone, they will be a lot more inclined to use it instead of what they'd get if it was restricted like it is right now.

There is a whole inertia thing going on. Why on earth would an ordinary person go to the trouble of getting a bitcoin wallet or app and paying with that, if they can easily carry on as they are with cash and plastic?

The only way people will switch is if something goes badly wrong with paying with cash. And even in India right now, with the turmoil created due to the swapping of the notes in circulation, bitcoin adoption is very slow, because only a small amount of Indians have smartphones, and their internet coverage is patchy and intermittent.

Venezuela and Argentina should have been prime places for the switch to bitcoin, but only the wealthy did it, the masses didn't.
3999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 22, 2016, 10:09:56 AM

Does anyone realize how absurd this discussion about "whales"/"dolphins"/"dumps"/"curation" is in real world terms...
Steemit has zero revenue, zero professional content and nothing resembling freedom of speech... end of story.

You could equally say that bitcoin has no "revenue", it was all generated from scratch on the blockchain. Has it any value? Sure - you can exchange it, ergo it has value. I've cashed out some nice money from it.

It is developing it's own jargon and slang, but that is normal as a community grows.

Lots of the content on steem is more interesting than you find in other places, especially the art and photography. Because of this, it has more women in it's community than other cryptocurrencies. If you remember, the internet only took off when women got involved.

If you think you can do better, nothing stopping you from creating your own version. Lots of people have been talking about it, but none have launched, apart from golos, which is licenced by steemit.
4000  Economy / Speculation / Re: The adoption boom is coming on: November 21, 2016, 09:22:44 PM

Knowing that it will rise and rise in time makes me wanna hold my coins rather than spending them. Dunno if its a bad thing or good.

It's good - it's acting like digital gold. And it has an advantage over normal gold in that it is easy to get hold of and mobile.
