3981  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Superbowl Bets Discussion- Eagles or Chiefs? on: February 11, 2023, 03:50:45 PM
I would have to agree with the Vegas odds on this one.  I think the Eagles are the ones that are going to come home with the trophy.  I don't watch much football, so this is mostly the opinions of my friends who do.  I do have a couple die hard Chiefs fans, but they aren't really football fans as much as they are from Kansas...  So I'm not going to place a crazy bet or anything, but I will be searching for a nice plate of nachos and possibly some chili dogs to go with a nice beer and a comfortable seat to watch the game.

Here in Phoenix the town is starting to see some action.  Looked like an alien invasion last night with all the helicopters flying around.
3982  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 11, 2023, 03:48:06 PM
Like it or not , Irving seems to have fun in Dallas and more than this , in his interview after the game he told something that I didn't see from him for A VERY LONG TIME. " I do mistakes and when I do them , my teammates are there to fix them for them and it's amazing" it's not word by word but 99% he told that and by no means , Sacramento is not an easy team to beat this year and they still did it. Also , when Luka is back from his small injury , I'm curious how they will swap position during in game because Irving also said that he is ready to give his best in order to give his teammates the best options available on the court during the game. Cool
Hopefully he will continue to have that good chemistry with his teammates so there's no problem when it comes to the renewal of his contract. We are all aware that Irving's contract will soon expire, so it's crucial if he will sign with Dallas or not. Seeing Irving enjoying in his new team, that makes me happy because he always seemed to be unsatisfied with the past teams he played with.

Maybe Irving is just observing on what will be the outcome of their run in Dallas since if they go to finals or even win a championship with their current rooster maybe he sign a new contract with this team. Irving likes to win so most provably that this scenario will happen. But if they fail and got a bad drop out of contention maybe he pursue his like to go to Lakers and try to pair up again with Lebron since this is what he like at the first place.

That's a big requirement to satisfy him, well, I hope he will be healthy in the playoffs so he can sure go with that goal. Because without Irving, Dallas may still lose against a tougher team especially the Suns who had Durant already. I'm pretty sure, if the Suns and Dallas will meet again, Suns will surely take a revenge because they were embarrass last playoffs when they lose on their home court via blowout.

Suns is what Luka look up as a biggest opponent to defeat since they have Durant, CP3 and Booker which can deliver good performance according to their role. Suns is really a big problem since their rooster now is so deep so I guess other team also preparing for them since they are not so easy compare when Durant is on Brooklyn since they really have problem on chemistry and execution at that time.

This has turned into an interesting rivalry.  Even more now that both teams have received significant upgrades.  Luka has been dominating the Suns ever since he punked Booker in the playoffs and it's been hard to watch.  Now with KD and Durant added to the picture on separate teams in this rivalry, things are going to be on another level.  Surely these two will meet in the playoffs unless Golden State has something to say about it.  It will be must watch TV if it happens.  I think KD might give the advantage to Phoenix, but you never know when it comes to Luka.

It’s definitely a possibility we go back to $19K. I think the market is at a bit of a fork in the road where it’s trying to decide if it’s going to retest the $16K lows or jump up to $30K. The participants are placing their bets and waiting to see which side has more influence. We do see to be leaning downward at the moment, but I think any dip from here is a buying opportunity.
3984  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 11, 2023, 06:59:43 AM
Okogie or Damion Lee might be the one replacing the twins, Cam Johnson and Mikhail Bridges departure from the Suns roster. Even Ayton has hard time digesting the event leading up to acquiring Durant, but this is the brutal business of basketball everyone is dispensable.

So let's look at the lineup, Durant, Booker, CP3 and Ayton plus one. I think that is solid already and it can play defense too.

Unless they are really trying to go full defense, then maybe they are going to rotate more.
I think it will be Torrey Craig. They have two of the most dangerous shooters in the league and CP3's options for an assist are doubled so they might as well use the hole for their defensive push.
Yeah, a lot of tension circling around on social media about how loyalty is not considered anymore. It's all business and it sounds brutal but players cannot do anything about it. Some even went further at defining it as players like items in the eyes of team management.
I think this had been the biggest trading swing that I have seen, with lots of colors.  Cheesy
Western Conference became more competitive, and now Dallas Mavericks became a championship contender and so do the Suns.

We’ll find out right after the all star break. Most of the analysts seem to agree that it will be Craig. It was nice to see Booker back in action tonight against the Pacers. He helped them get the win with a pretty balanced scoring night from Booker/Ayton/Paul. They might already be making an effort to share the ball more evenly to set an example for when KD hits the court. It’ll be interesting to see the shot distribution.

Lakers upgraded their roster, but might not be enough for this season to carry them to the playoffs.

We'll see how well the new guys fit in.  I actually really like the idea of Mo Bamba and LeBron James on the floor together.  I think they will either be a terrifying matchup on the floor or will not work at all.  Similar to how I felt about Russ and Bron, which didn't work out.  DLo could be a big spark as well.  I don't consider him much of a spot up shooter, but I assume he's capable of it.  He's definitely going to be getting the most wide open shots of his career.  My question is when do we get to see them in action?  Saturday vs the Warriors on ABC maybe?
3986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin trans-generational assets? on: February 10, 2023, 06:18:47 PM
No one really knew that Bitcoin could be as valuable as it is today from being so worthless that a large amount could only get you a slice of Pizza.

I wouldn't say nobody knew it was going to be extremely valuable.  I think back when it was under $10 I was telling people that my valuation of the network put it at a per coin value of around $4,000.  Nobody cared because at the time most of the people in this community had no idea what market caps were.  I recall arguing with people who were saying Bitcoin would go to below a penny and thinking they must be extremely dumb or ignorant to how assets are valued.  Imagine thinking now that a coin facilitating trade in the hundreds of millions per year (yes, even back then) could have a market cap in the low thousands of dollars...
3987  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Extremely Holding on: February 10, 2023, 06:14:48 PM
If this isn't some extreme form of holding, I wonder what it is then. According to the Twitter handle of Bitcoin Archive, 412Bitcoin worth $9.6m was moved from an address that was dormant for 11years. That means the owner just bought and "forgot" it there. While for some of us who have been holding for the past 3 months, it's seems like a century. This is gentle nudge that if someone has done it then you can(that is, if this is your goal).
How long do you think you can hold?

At first glance this may look like an extreme case of buying early and holding for a long time, I'm not so sure.  There are probably a lot of people who use their Bitcoin on a last in first out basis.  I suspect that is what happens when we hear stories like this.  The owner of that address probably kept stacking BTC for a long time after getting those funds.  This to me is a sign that the user has exhausted the rest of their coins and are resorting to moving coins from old wallets, or perhaps it was a form of proof of funds for some sort of loan or other business arrangement.  I think the odds that someone made a purchase, forgot about it for 11 years, and then decided to sell it now are very low.
3988  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Marijuana in the United States on: February 10, 2023, 05:00:20 PM
My take is that in the land of the free you should be able to grow and light on fire whatever you want as long as it isn’t hurting anyone else. I’ve lived in states with legal marijuana use since 1996 and I’ve never seen it be a major problem. The only real concern I have is that people could be less effective drivers, but I’d still bet an average person high on marijuana is a better driver than someone 70+ years old. Still, I think better tests to more accurately assess impaired drivers is probably necessary.
3989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen calls it a "mistake" to trust CSW on: February 10, 2023, 04:57:00 PM
The main question I have for Gavin Andresen is why he has stayed silent when all of this was going on? I thought someone like him who had a reputation once would want to keep his reputation and would have spoken out about this sooner? Does CSW have secrets on Gavin that he is scared might get out if he comes out more strongly in public? I find it odd that someone would allow their name to be dragged through the mud without every returning back to the btc community.

Gavin has stated many times that he did not believe CSW was satoshi. It never seems to be good enough for the core developers that constantly slander him. This latest round of harassment caused him to amend an old blog post but I think he really just wants to be left alone. He did a lot of great things for Bitcoin, then gave up his power and left. Still, for some reason people think they’re entitled to more from him. I feel bad for him, as he’s been a constant target by developers that will never reach his level of contributions to Bitcoin.

Another trade news is that Thomas Bryant was also dealt by the Lakers to the Nuggets Davon Reed and three 2nd-round picks. The rumor is that Bryant is not happy with his playing time, specially when AD is back on the floor again.

So it will be Jokic and Bryant protecting the rim for the Nuggets.

But I doubt that he will have a good time as well with the Nuggets, obviously, this is Jokic team. Or maybe him playing Center and then Jokic moving to PF, lets see.

I was just looking over this trade on the list and wondering why on earth the Lakers made it...  Bryant had been playing well for them in Anthony Davis' absence and even if he was unhappy, he was under contract and playing a fairly large role.  I'm sure he wants more playing time but who doesn't?  With Anthony Davis so injury prone, I think this trade is going to hurt the Lakers unless they have something lined up that I don't know about.  Who is going to be their backup center?  Maybe LeBron is going to try and recruit Kevin Love to the Lakers if he gets bought out or maybe we'll see one of the recent big men they worked out get a chance?

I do agree, I'm also surprised to see the Lakers letting him go and getting Reed as a back up center for AD or even starts at the center position for them. Byrant has blend very well with the Lakers even if AD is playing. So still a mystery for us, maybe it was true that Bryant is the one who makes this request to be traded for reasons only known to him.

But as per @Ramona Shelburne

Quote
Bryant had grown unhappy with his diminished PT since AD returned and asked LAL to look for a better situation. He’d also outplayed his contract & LA only has mid-level to re-sign him— so they opted to give his minutes to Wenyen Gabriel & replenish the picks they gave up for Rui.

It starts to make a little sense if they couldn't resign him.  Getting some value while they can.  It starts to make a lot more sense when you read that Patrick Beverly was just traded for Mo Bamba.  This will be interesting to watch as I didn't consider Mo Bamba a serious player, but he can shine at times and will probably be a good addition off the bench.  He'll be a unique pairing with LeBron for sure as he can also hit the 3.  I think the Lakers are probably sick of dealing with Beverly and the Magic are sick of dealing with Mo Bamba after the recent brawl he basically started from the bench.

That looks cool!  I'm very intrigued at this minimalist immersion cooling setup.  It's what I've been wanting for a long time possibly.  I'm looking forward to reading more about the experience and your take on it.  I wonder how this compares to a liquid cooled Antminer.  I see that it can operate in 104 degree environments which leaves it just out of reach for being outside in the summer where I live, but I think for people living in most places this might be a decent outside option.  Nice find.  Now to wait for some pictures.  Smiley

I’m reading reports now that the Warriors are or have (depending on the report) traded James Wiseman. I’m surprised by this. I thought he’d give them the athletic center they need, but I guess he didn’t fit into the system. I think if they gave him more minutes he could’ve been a much better player than he is viewed as and probably could have gotten them a better trade package, but it looks like they’ve given up on him. This opens a spot for Kevin Love…
3994  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 09, 2023, 05:45:10 PM
Still digesting the Durant to Phoenix move. I wonder if Durant will buy a house in the valley…

One situation I can’t say I understand is that the Cavaliers are rumored to be considering buying out Kevin Love’s contract. He’s on the last year of his deal so I don’t know what they’d get from doing that and I’m sure Love isn’t going to take a massive loss on his contract to be a free agent a few months sooner. If he is bought out though, I imagine a contender will scoop him up. I think he’d be a good fit for the Warriors.
3995  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 09, 2023, 05:17:06 PM
The market price seems to be in a very slow grind downward. Without looking at the data, I assume this means that people are building short positions and taking profits from the last 40%+ jump in price. Not sure how long this will continue, but these BTC are being accumulated by others and I think the buyers will have more $ to spend than the sellers have coins to short and sell. The next short squeeze should take us to $30K.
3996  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ordinals: Rare and exotic sats on: February 09, 2023, 05:14:36 PM
I am still researching and learning about this project but I have to say that I absolutely love the responses to it from certain developers. It shows who is a control freak that only likes Bitcoin when it does what they want it to. Use the code for something they deem as not appropriate and suddenly Bitcoin isn’t free and open software but instead something you can only use how they want you to use it. For that reason I love it. Eat your heart out controlling devs. Miners aren’t going to do your bidding and censor transactions, but it’s cute of you to ask.
You are right, we should store whatever we want on bitcoin blockchain and pay the fees for it. That's called freedom, though at what cost?

Some facts and problems, with bitcoin being the leader in crypto, this could result in mass demand leaving normal transactions out the blocks, bumping the fees up. Didn't miners do this fee manipulation trick a few years back bumping the fees up to $50? Isn't there some shitcoin out there doing this NFT thing already?
Do the miners really think they control the network? Not theirs to decide alone, it's called consensus.

It seems like miners and developers have been at odds for years with developers using tricks and lies to get miners to do what they want. Now it seems that miners are giving core developers the finger and doing what they want. This is likely the result or prior said developer behavior and in my opinion is a must to restore balance to Bitcoin. I personally love it and think it is necessary.
3997  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Verify your funded items*Cant HoDL if you ain’t GoTL* on: February 09, 2023, 05:09:52 PM
I have to agree with Dave.....to me its not only the transport to get high items to the place of grading but also the chance of someone meesing around with the holos.

I would hand deliver and probably request to witness the grading done in front of me.

If that is not possible, then they shall stay in my dungeon.

That would more than likely never be possible due to how the grading companies allow certain people in certain areas.

I hear you so its impossible to enter their premises and witness it.

But I have heard if they are on the road at certain events some companies can do grading in front of the customer or is that hearsay?

If it is true then I would need to wait for them to be in NYC for such an event to happen.

Would you really take a $300,000 coin to a crowded expo and hand it over to someone to do a public grading in front of a crowd and then hand it back to you? That might be ok, or that might be a fast way to get yourself killed in a parking lot. I think people put way too much faith in these people’s opinions. I’ve always been against grading and doubt I’ll ever have any of my coins graded because it isn’t worth the many risks. I prefer virgin graded coins. Smiley
3998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin will lead the world currency market?? on: February 09, 2023, 04:54:51 PM
Bitcoin can be an alternative but will not be a replacement. Banks and Government will move heaven and earth to make sure that will never happen hehe. They can make concessions like allowing it to co-exist with their national currency as an investment product or a legal tender but they will never allow it to exceed fiat or their own CBDC if they have one.

I would agree with this assessment. Right now Bitcoin is still relatively small on the global scale, especially when compared with top currencies. While I do believe the dollar will be replaced, I think it’s likely it will be replaced by a central bank digital currency, possibly made up of a basket of currencies. There is a chance that the people will reject government and use Bitcoin only, but I’d put the odds of that happening at probably 1%.

Holy shit! I’m hearing about the Durant news and this is crazy. The Nets traded him for basically nothing! This has got to be a rent a Durant situation. When Booker comes back this team might be the best in the league. If Ayton can play like he’s capable of they should win it all this year. I can’t believe what a steal the Suns just pulled off. Gonna have to grab myself some tickets.

That Westbrook news is something. I honestly think Russell Westbrook can still play at a high level. He seems like he’s just going through some things. I’m not sure how much better that trade will make the Lakers, but we’ll see.

Kyrie winning in his debut with the Mavericks without Luka is a good sign for them. It will be interesting seeing them on the floor together.
