3981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: farm setup 3-4 MB vrm pops on: May 13, 2017, 10:50:48 PM
im in a hurt here, i setup two systems out of 6 yesterday not a problem, bottom of the rack. then today i wired the rest very neatly etc. go to turn on the 3,4,5,6 and first one fire on the vrm under the heatsink next to cpu. 4th same place but caught it before it got bad, 5th i heard a pop but couldn't find anything, 6th a chip on the top of the mb burned a little. This sucks but things happen. i took pics of the mb setup and my pdu. you can see i have the mb's on aluminum standoffs 1" and its sitting on a piece of flashing. the pico ground in on the standoff cause its a round jack for pico power from a pcie cable. not sure what i need to do to fix this possible short? like i said i didnt have a problem with the two on the bottom but then 3-4,5-6 had problems... any help is good help.

never had once board fry ,usually its the card that goes not the mother board.  Let alone 2 ? bad PICOs talk to ur vendor

wait a min WTF you need to put the boards on standoffs that are not conductable to the metal rig frame !!  I use pizza boxes to stand the mother boards on

Sorry but i find this kinda funny, Im suprised you didnt fry every single motherboard that was connected metal to metal to the frame !!

Is this the first PC you have ever put together ? most folks who build PC's learned the hardway when the short out a few boards learning that you need to ground yourself before event working on a board

you can do this by touching anything metal or the floor even if its not insulated

ETH: 30.1 - 30.3   -   100% Stable, 0 Errors, about 2 weeks

Long time i tried bios mods and many other memory straps, this one is the only working flawless with 30 MHs.
Other straps got me lower MH on memory overclock or blackscreens and artefacts

@error5404 that custom strap is a beast worked for all my Hynix 580s , I donated  $50 in BTC thanks

btw off topic a bit but i have a bunch of 480 xfx gtrs with samsung ram that i had to dowclock mem to 2000 due to instability, these use the typical 1725 or 1750 strap down to 2000 similar to the ref samsungs but unlike ref alot of these cards crash with higer mem clocks with thst strap.  I heard theres a better custom strap for these any thoughts?
will tip if i get a solution

Im not sure what setting to change the voltage to on this. The mV is a big number.
It shows GPU Voltage: 1135 MHZ/ 65288 mV
i thought u just replace the big value with the actual mv value u want
say 900, hard to tell if anything works though i still see over 1000 when the card runs

sweet thanks ill try the gtr today

ok the XFX RX580 GTR is the a strange, its hynix but the last few straps are 1625,1750,2000 then a huge jump to 2250  , tried 1625,1750 and 2000 straps down to 2250

with bad results, 1625 crash,1500 wont boot, 1750 max hash rate is 27 mh/s , 2000 strap maxes to 25 mhs

this is all with 2100 mem clock, even with clock bumped to 2125 poor results.

any ideas on a custom made strap for these cards ?
3988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3 - 250mh - 400watt Scrypt miner coming soon on: May 11, 2017, 10:35:54 PM
I think it's because many of us have been through the mill before, buying rigs when profits were high, then seeing the hashrate skyrocket well past projections and barely able to reach ROI if at all.
It's a pessimistic approach, but I have been burned many times on miners which should have ROI'd in 2-3 months only to reach the reality that it just doesn't happen most of the time...

Yup i would rather build and eth rig for around 1700 that pays 20 usd a day dual mining NOW and make 20*60 $1200 in profit before power costs than tie up 1600 with bitmain for two months. And I know that my
harware for rigs will allway have a value,I cant say for sure the price on the L3 won't tank if prices drop or diff shoots skyhigh.

Of course if you have $$ or bitcoin sitting around and you dont care thats fine , but the opportuniy cost of having funds sit around for two or three months is bad

Anyone have had success with modding Radeon PULSE RX 570 4GB cards? I have no problem editing the biods ( copying the 1500 straps up), but after I load the bios on the card, they show error and no GPU frequency at all. Do I need to have radeon drivers installed? I installed them AFTER the bios modding. Using ati winflash 2.74 to program the BIOS.
uninstall and reinstall drivers then install amd afterburner and reset all settings
3992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Problems miners face after building a rig on: May 11, 2017, 11:17:38 AM
There's something you should know.
This mining business is like drugs.
You get addicted to it.
Even when you have nice profits, when you could just withdraw the money and have a good time,

NO!

I have to build more rigs!
And you just keep buying stuff and end up having the god damn rigs all over the place.
The heat would probably be enough to get a 2 story appartment building through the winter.
The power company doesn't understand why you need such powerfull brakers.
The cops think you have a massive Ganja farm inside your house.
The wife doesn't understand why we can't use a great portion of the house.

But you just keep on building more rigs!

Mining rigs > Not even once.

LOL facts , its worse than a drug addiction all my profits go back into more rigs smh, I have cards all over the place I cant even install since i have no more room and power Sad

Bad pools, exchanges & coin Dev's!

heat

power

dust

in that order

dust is really starting to anoy me though i need to install a dust filter over my exhuast window

You mean intake window (since it is taking outside air to inside)? On that note, think that might be a bad idea, unless you change that filter regularly. Think of a dryer lent trap, eventually it'll get clogged up and restrict airflow.

intake in the cooler months and i flip it to exhuast in the warmer months when the outside temps are higher than inside.  oh i see you u remove it completely and just deal with the dust

i use this one, never installed the vents on it though

What you guys seeing for HW errors I'm, seeing about 60 and 70 on boards 1 and 3 after 24 hrs. Boards and 2 and 4 only have a few HW errors.

After a few days of testing, I went ahead an updated the firmware. I know only the remote disable feature was disabled, but I did do a power cycle down for ~10 sec and restarted. My chain 1 and 3 show 19 and 16 HW errors and the other chains are at zero after 24hrs. The rate and number of HWs as lowered. Not sure if it's just variance, power cycle, or more burn in that's giving me these numbers.

I am going to to take Longsnowsm's advice and crank the fans up to %75, then send it to a data center. That tunnel sound!!!

can you please elaborate on these data centers you speak of. i would MUCH rathter have my rigs hosted at a reputable site and pay fees than have to deal with the noise/heat from them in my own apartment.

if u happen to know of any in the new england area that would b even better  Wink

I would reach out to Tim at, they will port forward the IP so u have access.

 http://www.btcmeqc.com

264 bucks for 6 months. Sending my first L3+ to them Monday

thats $264 all in ? eve. hosted at home at 14 cent per kwh that would be like $500 or so for six months
theres gota be some other hidden fees , always is

I have been using these.

They require making a framework/brackets to support the GPU's, and the front facing fans that originally mount to the bracketry you remove.  Other than that they are awesome cases.

You could also take the mid-bar of fans and put them at the front in the open hole to replace the specially mounted front ones;  We did it in one machine.  Works great.

But;  Replace all the fans with >120CFM fans.    Trust me.  It needs the airflow with more than 2 GPU.

Also;  if you are in a dusty environment;  remove the OEM front cover's filter and plastic housing.  Run filtration elsewhere, or at least something that flows better.

what do you mean about filtration dust will get in regardless right why would you remove the front cover wont that mess up the static pressure if you remove the fans and front cover
3999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Garage Mining on: May 10, 2017, 06:34:00 PM
My limiting factor will likely be cooling long before anything else. The 6 month goal is to be at 10 rigs.

you can do good with 3 fan in front of the gpu and for exaust you can use a tube with radiators to direct the air outside, or what about an air conditioner even better no? just put the temperature to 20° and you are done

It would take damn near a 5 TON AC unit just to cool the rigs and it would run all the time. That is not cost effective in any shape or form

you need to exhaust the heat  out using fans

guess I'm doomed to linux?.. (because, #$&% win10-anything.)
Maybe Windows Server 2016? It looks like Win10 tho, but has all the crap disabled by default.
Or Server Core 2016 ; ) It does not have any UI at all. I used to run mining rigs on Server Core 2008.. painfull at first ; )

does the server version have those damn updates disabled?
