How about locking satoshi's account too ?
We already have, but for unrelated reasons.

Are you afraid someone manages to hack into his account (0day exploit in SMF, gueesses pwd, whatevah) and impersonate him?

There is no way to change the firmware on the singles without a windows machine? Who the hell runs windows these days?

Maybe try wine/windows on a virtual machine/CrossOver.

I actually know a person who works for Intel who is developing this.  You would all shit your pants if you knew who he was in this community and you probably wouldn't believe me.

He says this is going to get about 2.4 Ghash range (they are still testing it) and it was supposed to cost about 1000 dollars but maybe they want to compete with asic and offer cheaper prices?  But again, this card isn't really for Bitcoin, so who knows.

2.4GHash/s but what hashes? bitcoin double sha2-256 or maybe 2.4 md5 GHash/s? This is important.

2. Develop FPGA bitstreams for the other applications that they have been listing on their site (computational research, medical imagery, etc: http://www.butterflylabs.com/drivers/ ) and resell them.

Follow the links of the other applications you mention. Wink
3992  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASICs vs BOTNETS on: June 25, 2012, 05:01:31 PM
I wasn't hating because they were mining (it increases network security), but I was hating because of the principle of the thing, where the botnet owner has commandeered the resources of an unsuspecting user and is using them for his own gain, frequently at the cost of the user directly. The operator itself is nothing more than a lazy slob that can't be bothered to make an honest living.

Ok, I get your point.

But I still think some users do deserve being taken advantage of. Take HF skids for example, begging for t00lz to h4x det fb acc, what could be wrong with infecting them Wink Not that I'd encourage that but I'm not against either. As for the operator most of the stuff they do can't be considered 'making an honest living' but not all of them are lazy slobs (those who design them are quite clever), only those who buy tools without basic knowledge of how networks and Windows works.
3993  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASICs vs BOTNETS on: June 25, 2012, 04:08:59 PM
I'm not sure how you were able to confuse "envy" with "hate", but whatever.

Why the hate then?

If BFL actually delivers products they announced with those specs and prices, no longer will anyone bother with using their botnets for mining bitcoins (unnecessary increased risk of detection, even after taking necessary precautions).
3994  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do any banks offer SEPA-depositable accounts to US citizens? on: June 25, 2012, 03:22:26 PM
How about the other way round? Is there a way to open a bank account in the US for European citizens? Used to have one at Citizens Bank a few years back, but I was in the US at the time. Closed it again to avoid fees when going back. Love to do some arbitrage.

Interested too, if anyone know a way please post here or PM me. I am only interested in legal or FUD ways though.
3995  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASICs vs BOTNETS on: June 25, 2012, 03:06:12 PM
Botnet operators need to be strung up on wires by their toenails and beaten with red-hot pokers.

You seem to envy them?  Grin
3996  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASICs vs BOTNETS on: June 25, 2012, 06:56:19 AM
So I've heard there are botnets running lots of hash. Are there any confirmed major hash sources that are botnets?

Based on the hash of the botnets, they are making a killing, and there's nothing we can do about it, however if/when the ASIC rolls out in force, the botnets will no longer be a significant portion of the hash.

This stands to gain (ASIC) players an even higher % of the pie.

What Say Ye? Vote Above

There was an AMA on reddit once with a botnet operator who had 13-20GH/s from 12k of bots and estimated that 30% of btc network could be botnets. To what extent is it true? I don't know but already over a year ago people discussed this extensively on deepnet.

Is this a thread to prove that anyone can BS a PRweb?

Yep. This elden tyrell guy got big game.

He spent $500 just for this. Could have used that to buy 3 Jalapeno coffee warmers for 10.5 GHash/s in the future presumably.

Guy must be mad BFL ASIC screwed over his bitstream licensing plans.

Don't jump off the bridge mate ! There is still hope Cheesy
$500 is not really anything when you're a financially successful adult living in a high-income OECD country.

fixed that for you. age and maturity don't guarantee financial status and where you come from does.

edited for horrid, horrid spelling.

fixed that for you [2]
3998  Economy / Gambling / Re: MMM-2011 hugest Ponzi scheme :: Bitcoins accepted on: June 22, 2012, 03:46:52 AM
Anybody daring to make an asset on GLBSE about this? I'm not 100% sure if Nefario would be ok with it though... on the other hand quite a few assets there could secretly (direct or via proxy) already be involved in MMM.

If whoever decides to do so is transparent and clearly makes potential ''investors'''aware of the risks I personally don't see any problems.
3999  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs ASIC Gear Potential on: June 19, 2012, 07:24:06 PM
IMO they are just bluffing

I can't believe people are falling for this... remember the ''1.05GH/s and 19.6W for $500''?

Either this is a long prepared scam or again incorrect simulation results (or they bribed their way through government-owned wafer factory in some developing country).

An ASIC performing at the speed of 1300 HD5970s (about $600k) for $30k? Who is going to fall for that? With a price of, say, $150k for 1TH/s ASIC they would appear at least more credible and still remain competitive. This doesn't make sense. If by chance they would release it with currently advertised specs and price this would mean end to GPU mining as has happened with CPU mining over a year ago.

I do realize that, but over 70% of the time he is trolling, I just wanted to say that.

How did you calculate the 70%?
