41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investor View: BTC vs BCH similar to GOOGL vs GOOG on: August 25, 2017, 07:12:44 AM
Is everyone here on this board only working with bitcoin, or are there also investors like me, who are also into stocks?

It appears to me that here are no investment minded people and many hopeful gamblers.
Bitcoin market cap is still less that for example AAPL market cap and that should make you think.
Which companies will benefit most from the crypto development - that would be also an interesting investment case.
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Very high transaction fee on: August 24, 2017, 01:38:30 PM
Only going to get much, much worse. Best to switch to Bitcoin Cash while you can.

Sorry, but you are spreading FUD. Latest the lightning network payment channels will solve that. In the shorter term the mining rewards will balance out between BCC and BCH and this oscillation will flatten out.
43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: At what price point per BTC will it be too late for the average person on: August 23, 2017, 10:35:25 PM
1BTC for each person? I think that's impossible since total human is more than total bitcoin. But if we want to think with graph, i think we're between "Innovators" and "Early Adopters".

Now in August 2017 only 16.5 million people could own one bitcoin each if possession would be evenly distributed. There are many that have more than one BTC and millions who have only fractions of it. So if you can afford to buy one now and hold on to it for 10 years, then you are one of the very lucky choosen ones. So folks don't wait buing your coin.

Fortunately most people cannot hodl for psycological reasons and they will always trade for a profit, be that 50% or 5000% profit. And it is good this way because otherwise, it would not be traded and therefore no value.  For markets to function we need greedy people, enthisiastic people, panic sellers, doomsday priests, profit takers, day traders, etc. me for my part I am a hodler for many more years to come.

But there is also a time in the future when I will start to sell, probably once I retired to fulfil some of my dreams and get a more luxurious life after work if it still exists by then. Remember that you cannot eat BTC and you can also not take it with you. So with my last breath, I want to have spent or donated my last BTC.
44  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: At what price point per BTC will it be too late for the average person on: August 23, 2017, 10:21:15 PM
Price does not matter if there is growth. If you can make 1000% in 5 years, then it is still a good investment, regardless whether you buy a bitcoin (or fraction thereof) at a price of 1,000$ or 100,000$.
Either way the maximum loss is only 100%

So it depends how much hard earned cash you are willing to invest and multiply, or can afford to loose without ruining your life.
45  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is useless or is it? on: August 23, 2017, 10:15:57 PM
One could also argue that gold is as useless as bitcoin. It is a good electrical conductor and bracelets look good on a lady's naked skin and they love jewlery gifts made from gold. Other than that it is a useless metal.

On the other hand, people use gold as a store of value since thousands of years because it is heavy, shiny, in limited supply and relatively difficult to mine.

Bitcoin is much of the same as gold, and more. But it's not possible to surprise your lady with it and it is not shiny.
46  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you keep buying? on: August 23, 2017, 10:03:37 PM
At the moment no, the price is too high.

That is funny, everybody is eager to see BTC at 5000$ or even 10000$ but still consider 4000$ too expensive to buy at. So why not buy at 4000 now when you can make a paper profit of 25% in just a few months if, what you hope for, will actually happen?

I still buy BTC every month for a certain amount of fiat.
47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Beginner’s Guide to Bitcoin’s Scalability Debate on: August 23, 2017, 10:49:08 AM
Indeed very informative - many thanks!

It proves that even if somebody is not a hero member here in the board, there is still a lot of wisdom to contribute.
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Hard Fork Part 2 on: August 22, 2017, 09:31:12 PM
The gates of hell will open and suck all your money in! Will cause huge panic selling! will be bloood on the streets of crypto!

I like blood and panic selling very much, as this provides good buying opportunities.
49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Survey: Will BTC and BCH peacefully coexist in future and at what ratio on: August 22, 2017, 09:19:02 PM
Today the market capitalization of BTC and BTH combined is 78.2 billion USD
Where BTC is 67.1 billion USD and BCH is 11.1 billion USD

So if market capitalization of BTC+BCH = 100%
BTC is 86% and BCH is 14%

So today the ratio is 86:14

Now without speculating about the future price of these two coins, what is your prediction on the ratio of BCT : BCH on the following dates?

   31 Dec 2017

   31 Dec 2018

   31 Dec 2019

   31 Dec 2022

My own belief is that both coins will peacefully coexist still in 2022 at a market capitalization ratio of 50:50, but I don't think that it will gradually develop in to this direction. What is your view?

By which of the 4 dates will we see a 0:100 or 100:0, which would mean one coin ceased to exist.

We may all come back to this conversation once in a while and check prediction vs reality.

50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: August 22, 2017, 03:37:27 PM
wtf need a hour to send bitcoin now ? and few mins to send bitcoin cash , what happened ?

See how much the average time to mine a block in minutes on BTC has shot up over the last 7 days
https://data.bitcoinity.org/bitcoin/block_time/7d?f=m10&t=l

This is because of the decreasing hash power on the BTC chain with (not-yet) changed difficulty level:
https://data.bitcoinity.org/bitcoin/hashrate/30d?c=m&g=15&t=a

This would be a recipe for disaster if that trend of miner defecting continue after the next difficulty adjustment.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin (BTC) be killed by BCC soon? on: August 22, 2017, 06:20:26 AM
It is not that one coin kills the other.

If more users see their requirements better represented by another coin then they will change. If a user sees better profitability switching or rebalancing from GOOGL to AAPL stocks then they decide on their own, not the Google or Apple company or the exchange broker. Very same with switching from BTC to BCH or vice versa.

After all: it's the user that decides which coin survives, not the miner.

The miners can make it hard for the users and vice versa, but the user will win at the end - always.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin (BTC) be killed by BCC soon? on: August 22, 2017, 06:16:50 AM
Anyone with a right mind can't think that is possible. I mean come one, BCC is just copy/paste of Bitcoin code with changed configuration file, now can a copy ever be better than the original ?

Welcome to the digital world.

BCH is most of the same code as BTC, sharing same idea and value proposition with some variation. BTC hardliners simply do not seem to get that because of their dogma.

A digital copy of an MP3 file is as good as the original. A digital copy of a program file is as good as the original. Everything in Crypto is just code and a lot of belief that it works.
53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question for Older Members. on: August 21, 2017, 08:21:10 PM
Thank you fellows for insight. I was referring to sites , pyramid sites that ask you to donate bitcoin for higher value of bitcoin. Member to member sort.

And why are folks selling their accounts? I actually saw a website where a fellow offered buying a 'Hero' account.

If you want to lose your funds, join such a pyramid site.
If you want to make a lot of money and are not afraid to see a prison from the inside for some tome, build a pyramid site of your own.
54  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question for Older Members. on: August 21, 2017, 08:07:35 PM
Hi everyone, been around a couple of days. New to making or earning bitcoin too.
Now,looking around, I discovered the best way to get bitcoin for a beginner is signature campaigns, unfortunately, newbies aren't allowed in, not fair because I need to really start earning. However, someone mentioned going for Alt coins, whatever that means. Going to that section, I saw there are so many of them.

So my questions are;

1. Why are newbies not permitted in signature campaigns?
2. Can Alt coins be directly be converted to bitcoin and how?
3. Are bitcoin donation sites(I learnt about bitcoin from them) worthwhile?

Thank you.

Forget about all these signature campaigns, faucets, mining yourself, etc. Take a part of the money you earn in your job, or from your student job, and purchase bitcoin from a reputable exchange. Move that to a cold store and leave it there. Don't touch it for at least 5 years and you will be fine. Gobble up some more on a regular base, i.e. every 3 months, don't worry about the daily, weekly, monthly price fluctuations. Go and live your life, enjoy company with your friends, or whatever. You will be fine following this and life is much less stressful. Lock the cold store / hardware wallet in some place that you cannot immediately access when you feel urged. Put it at a safe box with a bank, best in New York if you live in San Francisco or vice versa. Just that far away that you cannot react to events within less than 12-36 hours to avoid the temptation.

There have been so many guys out there that purchased bitcoin at a few cents and sold them for a huge profit at 100$. Very bad decision from today's perspective.

BTW: watching today's total solar eclipse outdoor is much more fun and satisfying than staring at the real time bitcoin price.
55  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it too late to buy bitcoin? on: August 21, 2017, 07:40:25 PM
Am I the only one here who use bitcoin just to buy other altcoins?  Wink

Probably you are not the only one.

There are even people out there that use hard earned fiat cash money to buy bird shit, it depends on your use case and goals.
bird shit = guano = fertilizer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guano

56  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it too late to buy bitcoin? on: August 21, 2017, 07:34:55 PM
It is never too late to buy bitcoins in this century. It depends on your time horizon.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin make Banks disappear? on: August 21, 2017, 07:33:15 PM
Short answer: NO

Long answer: complete your master in economics.
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you sell your dog for 100,000 usd in btc ? on: August 21, 2017, 07:24:09 PM
I wouldn't. It's like selling your family member for 100,000$. My dog is also part of my family.

LoL for that price I would even sell my mother in law  Wink
59  Economy / Speculation / Re: If price of BTC reach 50K who is going to buy? on: August 21, 2017, 07:15:39 PM
Price can't jump over $50k from current $4k level overnight because there will be lots of sell pressure and resistance levels which will easily block the uptrend. That's why price is pumping in several stages, a big pump - a small correction - stable price for few days/weeks - another round of pump.

There will be always buyer for bitcoin at every level because even 1% people don't know anything about bitcoin till now.

According to the world population clock on http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/ there are approximately 7,526,950,613 people living on this planet and every day there are 200,000 more.

Compare that with the 16,519,187 BTC in circulation. So only a maximum of 16.519 million people can own at maximum one BTC each. That is only 0.22% at the very maximum. So it is probably safe to say that more than 99.8% of the earth population are clueless about BTC today. Think about the potential if 2% of the world population would own and use bitcoin and 5% would know about BTC's potential.
60  Economy / Speculation / Re: If price of BTC reach 50K who is going to buy? on: August 21, 2017, 07:03:05 PM
Additional fact: there are 755,440 shares of BRK-A in circulation.

Compare this with 16,519,187 BTC in circulation.

So an eventual 50k$ price tag per BTC is not ridiculous.
