It is possible. Let's say I have access to all computers and servers in the world and can use at least 10 % of their power to generate all bitcoin wallets and I have a big enough storage drive to get the results. It would take a few years, but I will have all those keypairs. Invent a better algorithm for generation, speed it up and maybe it will take even less time. Index the database and there you have it. The other reason as to why you will never know about it, is because nobody who would do such a thing would tell anyone about it. Why would they? Drop the bitcoin price? Set a world panic? Destroy bitcoin? Why would you, if you have access to all bitcoins? Why would you even take more than you need? Why not just empty the long lost wallets, and nobody would even notice. There are far better purposes for quantum computers than to generate bitcoin keypairs, let's do some calculations to get us further into space, move to Mars, improve statistics, make science breakthroughs, etc.

The advice against writing down passwords was regarding the issue of users writing them down on a sticky and attaching that to their monitor. Of course it is not safe, anyone having access to your desk can see the sticky and get your password. Cryptography keys and seeds are very hard to remember and hardware cannot be 100 % secure or safe. Trust me I know, malfunctioning hard drives are a very sad experience. Recovering data is tough. The community mostly agreed that the best way was to write the important information on a piece of paper and put it in a safe, since usually only the owner of the safe has access to it. There were numerous attempts to simplify the process, like using brainwallets, which people can remember. This lead to more issues and stolen funds after hackers just rummaged through dictionaries and already known passwords (hail the LinkedIn leak *sarcasm*). Right now as I understand it, the best way is whatever the owner of the wallet decides. There is no "perfect" way for everyone. Multiple ways to back-up such information is preferable, there are plenty of "I forgot my password and key help" posts out there to prove it. Oh, almost forgot to mention. If you are writing down a seed and you are not sure that the place you will put it in is completely safe, just add an extra word somewhere in there, like third or fourth or whichever you chose, just remember which one you added extra. This will make your seed harder to crack, although I did see some python tools helping recover missing seed words.

Relax, the coins are still there in your wallet. You should see them in zXLR control (under mint status window). Nobody could have spent your zXLR, because it's not enabled yet. Or simply open up console and type "exportzerocoins true", it will show your transaction of minting zXLR. Unfortunately, there is no going back until April 13th, you cannot spend them. Good news, the price should increase once XLR moves from PoW to PoS ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

There are also some "dark horses" in the private coins world. Two that I can mention is XLR and MUN. MUN has a very easy coin mix feature, if they continue with the development they have a chance to make it to the top players. XLR is Solaris, they have a zero-coin protocol built in feature (coming only April 13th) like PIVX, however they plan to open their own exchange, which is a good reason to hold or buy this coin right now. I don't really have a need to hide any of my coins, wish I had a substantial amount, maybe then I would have that need ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) As an enthusiast I studied the subject and came to the conclusion that the best protocol for that is zero-coin. Great idea, neat feature, a wide choice of coins running that protocol right now.

Good question, I was researching this information myself some time ago. "Mastering bitcoin" is a good start, I agree. However, you need to decide on which coin you want to fork from, it will determine your further choice of reading. I like Ethash algo, it's not very difficult to master, other than the smart contracts, I'm still reading a lot on those. https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/EthashHere is the github link, you can check it out. Geth being the main instrument of the ethash algorithm, it's here : https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/wiki/geth. I'm not programming a lot, just an enthusiast, but it seems very straight forward even to me.

I already expressed my thoughts in TMAN's challenge thread, but I will try to sum it up here as well. 1) For new members merit is mostly given in the meta section, judging by my own experience, which is not how it is supposed to be in my opinion. 2) Most merit give away threads are just an ego trip for the topic starter and a chance to say to most people "I don't like you, I'm king here and decide to give you something or not". 90 % of people who participate in such threads get nothing (according to my experience). Considering that a Jr. member needs 10 merits to become full member this is just a way for senior members to bully around the juniors. Does not solve the problem of good posters getting 0 merits. 3) Alt accounts made by older accounts are created "a dime a dozen", while real people are really struggling to reach any kind of status on the forum. Don't believe me? Read the alt-reports thread, it's very long. 4) I believe real people should have no problem making it to at least member status - full member status. The current system makes it next to impossible, unless you have an old account with a zillion merits. 5) The way merit is given is just...well...sad. This forum is about bitcoins, not an English literature class. Seriously, the way merit should be given (my opinion which complies with the forum rules): a) the post must be on the subject b) the post makes some sense in expressing the thoughts of the author c) the post is contributive to the discussion/topic. Wrote something that complies with that? You should get a single merit for that alone. 6) The system would work if there was a bot handing out merits according to the point above, but there is not a single one doing that. More to that, there is just not enough people with merit who give them out according to some objective rules, rather than my point 2 above. I'm still thinking on how this merit system should be revamped. I will try to think about it, sum it up and propose a constructive merit system change.

I'm back to rant on about the fairness of the merit system. Should rename the thread to TMAN's literacy awards ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I was just reading on the thread about alt accounts and the more I read, the more humiliated I felt about such merit give away threads. There are old accounts just sending 10 merits to numerous alts, achieving member status in a snap for their signature bots, while there are real non-alt intelligent people in such threads going out of their way to prove that they deserve member status. Wish I had unlimited merit so I would award it to real people who actually contribute and write decent posts. I don't think the posts should be award-winning, I think they should have only two requirements: 1) be on the subject 2) make some sense in expressing the thoughts of the author. This forum is about bitcoins, remember? Not an English literature class. You don't have to be a major in literature to receive merit, seriously. The more of these threads I read, the more I realize how disgusting this is. These threads all look like older members bullying around the newcomers, because 90 % of the comments are something like "Sorry, I don't like you, you get nothing". Nothing personal TMAN, I just like your thread most, so I decided to express my feelings here. Everything I say goes towards 99% of the merit give away threads I have seen. I am still thinking about how it should be done and maybe in the end I will make a constructive proposal on the merit system change.

Here is a detailed page about qr codes, where you can read all the information about what they are and how they work. https://www.qr-code-generator.comIt's just a graphical way to code information in a limited amount of space. If you are looking to adopt a code into your wallet in order to generate qr codes for your coin adresses, you probably want to look here: https://github.com/nayuki/QR-Code-generatorThis is a QR code generation library and it is available in five different programming languages: Java, JavaScript, Python, C++, C. If you are not happy with this one, you can search for more qr code generation libraries.

Hi, I want to try my luck here as well. Sadly, "luck" is the word that best describes most merit give away threads ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) One should write at least 10 bitcoin-like whitepapers as posts in order to receive merit to become a member. Seriously, it's not really fair to those who are newcomers, I read some threads where people have noticed that members with old accounts just create new ones and send them merit to promote to member. I really wish 1 merit was enough to become a member for those of us who do not have old alt accounts.

If you sent it to some address like 0x957cDDc5222aDcd05ddC617AeE45513C54D99e90, you should be able to view them even without entering your private key. Just go to MEW ->View w/ Address Only-> enter only the address and you will view the actual ETH balance of that address.

Anyone is able to earn more by participating in the cryptomarket world. However, governments are not supporting it, especially in Asia. Like banning crypto or mining, it's only for the poor, the rich always have some way to avoid the laws.

There have been good ICOs, but you have to be careful and read the whitepaper, watch the team achievements, etc. Some ICOs will fly, others will fall.
Everyone got used to sending that information, since most exchanges (unfortunately) require it. I agree though, never send your private information to an ICO like ID data, they should not need it.
I have yet to see someone become a "bounty millionaire", unless it was a bitcoin bounty at some point.
Are these ICO Pools actually trustworthy? Is there anyone here who actually tried investing into one?
Now is almost a good time to invest, most coins have either gone up wildly, or sunk.

Did I understand this wrong, wasn't this a "monthly" contest? It's march and I have not seen a new list by TMAN.

Hi, is there anyone who is good with Geth remote connection? Ok, so I set up my geth console like this --rpc --rpcport "8545" --rpcaddr "127.0.0.1" --rpccorsdomain "*" After that I should be able to connect from a remote machine using my IP, right? Like this geth --rpc attach http://my.ip.add.ress.:8545 I get an error: Fatal: Failed to start the JavaScript console: api modules: Post http://my.ip.add.ress.:8545: context deadline exceeded What am I doing wrong?
