I can vouch for bitpotato being legit. I got kind of pissed yesterday because I got greedy and bought in at 109 LTC. I stayed around the lower end ones and i made 30 back at the end of the day. but that is my fault for not understanding the system entirely. You guys are running a good operation though. Keep up the good work and keep ironing the bugs out! Thanks!

risk and reward eh? but fortune favors the bold my friend Wink

44  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: May 09, 2013, 03:00:50 PM
Looks like I'm going to be buying another user's 12.8 chips. I would really like to end up with 20 chips for a 20 chip unit though - I know it's a long shot but is there anyone in this thread that wants to sell 8 chips worth of their share?

edit: for that matter I'd love to buy someone's 18 or 28 chips, and would pay a bit extra for interest Wink

Everything has worked fine for me.  Received my payout while the next buyer's purchase was still verifying.  I was honestly surprised at how quick it was.

Not sure how the recent hacking affected this though.  Haven't played yet today.

Everything is working fine for me, have bought approximately 15 potatos recently...no problems (that haven't been fixed!) yet.

edit: bit potato, potatos are expiring at lower prices than ever, many after only one or two trades. I would strongly suggest getting rid of the multiplicative system and just go with the current price+sale profit for next price. If hot potato is 42.61 with sale profit of 21.3, I think it's really unnecessary for it to shoot to the mid 70's after that purchase, just as an example. Let's be honest, you are making enough money from A) the initial purchase price of the potato, and B) the person left holding the bag at the end, to your benefit. But aside from that, this would be very beneficial to the site overall in my estimation because allowing more people to participate is important. I realize when I previously was describing a more "linear" potato I didn't describe the point very well. I think smaller increments between purchases would be a good change. More transactions, more people playing, more people who can go to xxxxx site and say "Yeah bitpotato pays out, seems legit to me!" if you know what I mean.

edit2: also, there needs to be randomization in the starting prices. potatos are all about psychological price levels. a very slight change in starting price can affect the way the potato plays out big time.

anyway we can request a manual payout if our amount is less then 20 ftc?

Thanks

appears not, if you aren't willing to mine to 20 the operator is going to keep your coins. clever scam if you ask me.
48  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll] 200$ bitcoins? on: May 08, 2013, 11:19:16 AM
I voted no, not because I'm a disbeliever but because I don't think bitcoin has it in it right now to generate another huge surge of public money like that. I don't even think it would be good if it did. Let the price slowly climb back to 200 - over the next two months, not the next two weeks.
49  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do NOT declare that you have ever owned bitcoins on: May 08, 2013, 10:44:19 AM
How can a nation tell who's using crypto currency? Isn't there a level of anonymity that will make it cumbersome trying to pinpoint who to tax?

Well it sure is a lot easier than figuring out who is using paper cash...

I would actually say that it is about equal! And frankly in many ways bitcoins are better than pure cash. If you have any faith in crypto at all you have to imagine that the goods and services available through bit/other coins will only continue to increase.

Now, on to more important issues. Bitpotato.com has just suffered from a small "Script Kiddie" attack. A user injected javascript into the page that replaced our wallet addresses with a single one: Li9kkpAuRLP2dXdgyxtgwDFPWE2V2s2Kzu.

Though we patched the vulnerability within minutes, they did manage to siphon away 177 LTC. We are refunding all these transactions out of pocket, due to our oversight. As we've said before, we feel our integrity is much more valuable to our business than anything else, and want to work directly with our users to improve the site, and right any wrongs that occurred due to an oversight on our end. We appreciate your continuing understanding and support.

Please, if you have sent a payment to Li9kkpAuRLP2dXdgyxtgwDFPWE2V2s2Kzu, send in a support email and get your refund! (Support email address is in the FAQ section of our website)

Also, keep the suggestions coming!
Best Regards,
The Bit Potato Staff

Very impressed with the way you handled this. Haters will hate but you run a legitimate operation.

Random suggestion: maybe a little difficult to code for, but having some type of randomized event would be fun. E.x. a special leprechaun potato pops up for a few seconds, and the leprechaun potato has a long(er?) timer and can only be clicked/purchased when it randomly appears.
53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bit Potato - Hottest bits since the potato!! on: May 08, 2013, 02:35:31 AM

Same here. Also even if you click the open potato, the address doesn't pop up, yet if you refresh, your name is under the one you just clicked.

be careful...I just clicked a potato, it showed my name, I sent the LTC, and then now the "waiting for payment" timer is running out to 0 as if I didn't pay....100% certain I entered correct address and everything, not my first time around : /

looks like the site may be under attack or something

edit: 100% for sure site is under attack, wont go into details but I trust from my previous experience with the bitpotato staff that they will handle this professionally.
54  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bit Potato - Hottest bits since the potato!! on: May 08, 2013, 02:04:52 AM
is the site malfunctioning for anyone else? I don't get a timer when I mouse over a potato and only one of them has a constantly updating timer....a few of the potatos say "NONE" under owner and time. ofc I buy a potato right before this happens too, and coincidentally it expires...lol.

55  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bit Potato - Hottest bits since the potato!! on: May 08, 2013, 01:30:50 AM
Ever since the times were dropped, it's no longer attractive to even buy above 30 because people are too scared. When the timers were long, the prices would usually always be above at least 100. The hot potato's 6 hour timer is ridiculous and was unannounced. There should be a chart showing the reset timers at least. The time should also pause when someone locks it out and it says waiting for payment, but it doesn't and that allows people to lock out the 3 hour and hot potato until it resets giving the current holder no chance. People I've seen 2 people locking out potatoes so far and were named "tater salad" and "just the tip".

I will agree with this though, I think it was a mistake to lower the times. I understand it leads to more short term profit for the company (and I don't fault them for that), but it leads to more people being stuck with the potato, and ultimately more people being disillusioned with the site. This is going to quickly cripple the price the potatos get to, as we are already seeing. Hot potato is about to expire with a price of 70~ LTC, and likely lower next time.

I think a better approach would be to stick with 24 hr or even potentially longer timers, and also start the potatos lower! Bitpotato don't get too greedy...when you sneak a starting cost in of 50 LTC people DO notice. Maybe get rid of the 3hr potato which is quickly becoming the "one person buys and that's it" potato, and replace it with a "Linear Potato." Start at 1 LTC, add +3 or +5 LTC every purchase with no crazy random increases. More people will be excited waiting for potatos to expire (this is the FUN part of the game guys! If I'm not waiting for a potato to expire then I'm not on the site and you're making less money!) and more people will get to play overall. Forcing at least one potato to remain at a lower price for longer also expands your market potential significantly.

Anyway, just random thoughts...not my site though, is it Wink

edit: also found it a bit ironic that in a game so centered around abusing people's greed, the owner's of the site got a bit too greedy with their monetization of the site! hahaha

Dont GAMBLE your Bitcoins! Going on satoshidice, "bit potato".. Or any other gambling website your bound to lose money in long term. Believe me i've lost hundreds more bitcoins then I have ever earned off bitcoin gambling. It leads to gambling addiction which is extremely bad and harmful.

not everyone who has a drink becomes an alcoholic. if you don't have the will power to control your self then don't gamble.

every one please check your account to make sure  the wallet address is right, better to lock it.

i will send payment several hours later.

if you find problem, email me.

Now i think most scripts problem should have been solved.  so it is much safer than before.

appreciate the update but does this mean everyone will get a payment or still only those balances 20ftc+ ?

I received all of my coins this morning, so kudos for at least giving me my coins even if it was too late for me to sell before the crash.
I'm just going to hang on to my coins in the vain hope the price will rise enough for me to sell for a decent profit.
Its a shame the payout system was so bad, otherwise it was a great pool, it was very reliable for the time i used it.

This. It seemed like you were coping well despite the hacking problems, but this 20 coin minimum thing is nonsense. Didn't sign up for that when I started, and you made it seem at first like it would be a temporary measure. Now the pool is clearly collapsing rapidly, practically no mhash anymore. I only have about 8 FTC in your pool and would greatly appreciate a withdrawal on that.
